Shiranui adjusted his party, making sure Jean and Kitsune were a part of it.

Liam arrived at the gym and intorduced himself to Erika. She called on Victreebel.

Victreebel, the Flycatcher Pokemon.Once ingested into this Pokémon's body, even the hardest object will melt into nothing.

Liam called on Sherlock.Erika began with Stockpile. Liam used Calm Miind.
"Victreebel, Gastro Acid!" Erika called. Victreebel hurled purple goop at Sherlock that negated Synchronize.
"Use Psychic!" Liam called. Sherlock used a mass of Psychic energy and did massive damage.
"Use Bug Bite!" Erika called. The super effective hit critically. Sherlock was worse for ware.
"Psychic!" Liam called. Both Pokemon were close to being knocked out.
"spit up!" Erika called.
"Recover!" Liam called at the same time. Sherlock's recovery saved him from losing.
"Bug Bite!"
"Confusion!" Both attacks hit and Victreebel was KO'd and swapped for a Bellossom.

Bellossom, the Flower Pokemon. When the heavy rainfall season end,. Bellossom gather and seem to dance. They say that the dance is a ritual to summon the sun.

"Calm Mind!" Liam called.
"Petal Blizzard!" Erika called. A storm of petals smashed into Sherlock.
"Calm Mind!" Liam commanded again
"Leaf Blade!" Erika called.
Sherlock was on his last legs again.
"Ally Switch!" Liam called. Sherlock used psychic power to switch out with Growliethe, and allow it to have the stat buffs Sherlock did.
Bellossom used Poison Powder and poisoned Growlethe
"Flame Wheel!" Liam called. The attack hit and due to the buffs, KO'd Bellossom. Erika sent out a Tangrowth.
Tangrowth, the Vine Pokemon.It ensnares prey by extending arms made of vines. Losing arms to predators does not trouble it.
"Tangrowth, Ancient Power!" Erika called. Growlithe was hit.
"Flamethower!" Liam called. with the powerful attack he KO'd Tangrowth and Liam earned the Rainbow Badge.

After healing her Pokémon, Erika was ready to face Shiranui. First out was Victreebel and Shiranui called Kitsune out. "Victreebel, Stockpile!"
"Kitsune, Will-O-Wisp!" Victreebel stockpiled some power inside of it and caused both its defences to go up. Kitsune's tails ignited with some ghostly blue flames and after sending them at Victreebel, they left the pitcher plant burned. "Victreebel, Sleep Powder!"
"Kitsune, Flame Burst!" Sparkly blue powder was scattered and after Kitsune inhaled it, the Vulpix fell asleep. Victreebel took the time to add a further two Stockpiles before Kitsune woke up and unleash a Flame Burst. With Victreebel's defences at 2.5 times their base level, the damage was reduced significantly.
"Victreebel, Synthesis!"
"Kitsune, Flame Charge!" After Victreebel healed the damage that was previously inflicted, Kitsune charged at the plant, igniting herself in the process. The damage was minor, but Kitsune's Speed went up, making the Vulpix faster. "Victreebel, Sleep Powder!"
"Kitsune, Psych Up!" The Vulpix used a mind trick to copy Victreebel's defence boosts before the pitcher plant wafted another Sleep Powder.
"Victreebel, Spit Up!" Victreebel released the power it stored and Kitsune barely survived the powerful attack thanks to her defence boosts. Vulpix was still fast asleep. "Victreebel, finish it off with Leaf Tornado!"
"Vulpix, wake up and use Hex!" Luckily for Shiranui, Vulpix woke up and cast a bewitchment on Victreebel that was more powerful thanks to the burn it had. Through a combination of the burn and the Hex, Victreebel went down.

Erika sent out Bellossom next. "Bellossom, Magical Leaf!"
"Kitsune, Will-O-Wisp!" The Will-O-Wisp missed and the leaves that struck Kitsune caused enough damage to knock the Vulpix out. Shiranui switched Kitsune for Titania.
"Bellossom, Leaf Storm!"
"Titania, Confusion!" Titania tried to push the leaves back with her psychic powers, but the storm was too powerful and Titania was hit for major damage. The Kirlia got up and let off a bright glow. Titania's shape grew from a small ballerina to a slender ballroom dancer that was around Shiranui's height before the glow subsided to reveal a Gardevoir. Shiranui pulled out his Pokédex to scan Titania's new form. "Gardevoir, the Embrace Pokémon and an evolved form of Kirlia. It has the power to predict the future. Its power peaks when it is protecting its Trainer."
"Bellossom, Leaf Blade!"
"Titania, Moonblast!" The Gardevoir drew power from the moon and unleashed a blast of moonlight at Bellossom. The hit was critical and Bellossom was knocked out.

"Your Gardevoir is impressive, but can it stand up to my Tangrowth?" Erika asked rhetorically as she sent her last Pokémon out. "Tangrowth, Sleep Powder!"
"Titania, Misty Terrain!" The Gardevoir covered the battlefield with mist and the Sleep Powder missed.
"Tangrowth, try again!"
"It's not going to work! Titania, Moonblast!" Tangrowth was blasted with the same moonlight that knocked Bellossom out, but it survived the attack, albeit barely. It tried to scatter more of the sparkly powder, but Titania was now immune to the effects. "The mist you see here makes every Pokémon standing within it immune to status conditions, including your Tangrowth."
"So that's what it does. Tangrowth, Mega Drain!"
"Titania, Confusion!" The Gardevoir used her mental powers to scramble Tangrowth's mind and the mental assault knocked the mass of vines out. Shiranui had won the Rainbow Badge.

Liam congratulated Shiranui. "Well the next gym is in Saffron. It would be best to go to Lavender Town's Pokemon Tower to look for some ghost types."

"Now that we have our Silph Scopes, we can see them for what they really are," replied Shiranui, "I heard other ghost Pokémon have taken residence there."

"Well lets go see about catching some ghost types." Liam said with a smile.

Shiranui nodded and with that, our heroes made their way back to Lavender Town.

After returning to town Liam healed his pokemon with the gloomy Nurse Joy and was ready to proceed to the tower.

Shiranui also healed his Pokémon. "Liam, ghost Pokémon can be tricky," he warned.

"Thanks for the heads up." Liam said. The tall tower came into view as they walked in. Inside the tower they found Trevor. He turned and saw them.
"Hey, Liam, Shirranui, what brings you two here? Your Pokémon don't look dead." It was the way he said that that made Liam uneasy. Trevor called on a Growlithe and Liam called on Hydro. Growlithe used Roar and made it switch with Ivysaur. Ivysaur used Sleep Powder and while his opponent slept, was switched back out for Hydro. Hydro used Water Gun and KO'd Growlithe. Trevor sent out his Ivysaur and Liam switched Hydro out for his own Growlithe.

"Ivysaur, use Poison Powder!" Trevor called.
"Flamethrower!" Liam replied. the purple powder was burned up in the air before it reached the target.
"Leech Seed!" The seed wrapped itself onto Growlithe who used Flame Wheel and hit ivysaur hard enough to activate Overgrow. Growlithe's energy was zapped and Ivysaur was switched for Gyarados. Gyarados used Aqua Tail and did critical damage to Growlithe. Growlithe used Roar and Gyarados was switched out for Pidgeotto. Pidgeotto used Steel Wing and finished of Liam's Growlithe. Liam called on Clefairy. Clefairy used Metronome, which turned into Dragon Pulse, dealing fair damage to Pidgeotto. Pidgeotto used Sand Attack and Clefairy used Moonblast. Pidgeotto used Peck and Clefairy used Attract. While Pidgeotto was immoblized with love Clefairy pulled Thunder Punch from a Metronome and KO'd it. Pidgeotto was switched for Gyarados.

Clefairy used sing to put the Atrocious pokemon to sleep While it slept, Clefairy used Wake Up Slap and KO'd Gyarados, who was swapped for Ivysaur, who had a double KO aginst Clefary with Tackle and Pound respectively. Trevor sent out Kadabra for his final Pokemon. Liam sent out his own Kadabra ,Sherlock.

The two Kadabras became locked in a psychic battle. Both launched a Confusion and the attacks met in mid air. Trevor's Kadbra would start to overpower Liam's, then it would be the other way around, then flip back and so on for several minutes. Eventually, Trevor's Kadbra lost and was hit. Now, Psybeam!" with that Attack, Tevor's Kadbra was KO'd and he lost the match.

After he stated he was out of Pokemon Liam asked: "Wait, what about your Raticate?" Trevor's face became full of grief as he shoved past them to leave. Liam's face became filled with dread at the possible implication he thought of...

"I have this gut feeling that a Dusknoir took his Raticate and crossed over to the other side," stated Shiranui, choosing his words carefully.

"That is what I was thinking." Liam added. "The last time I saw it was when he challenged my on the SS Anne and I KO'd it with what looked like a critical hit."

"You may have to watch your back with him next time you meet," warned Shiranui as they ascended to the next floor, "He'll likely bear a grudge against you."

A small pokemon floated up next to the duo. Liam realized it was a Duskull.

"Duskull, the Requiem Pokemon.It doggedly pursues its prey wherever it goes. However, the chase is abandoned at sunrise. It is said that if it finds bad children who won't listen to their parents, it will spirit them away." Liam was ready to battle he sent out Ivysaur. Ivysaur used Razor Leaf and Duskull used Shadow Ball. Ivysaur used Energy Ball while Duskull used another Shadow Ball. Ivysaur went to use Stun Spore and kept Duskull from moving. Liam tossed a Pokeball and caught Duskull, nicknaming him "Grimm"

Shiranui had been battling a lot of Ghost Pokémon and after Titania took a Gastly out, the Gardevior felt something. "There's a restless and angry spirit a few floors up!" she warned.

"That does not sound good." Liam commented. Between the battle with his rival and that Duskull, his Pokemon were worn out. "He proposed a tactical withdrawl to the center to heal up and they return.

"I accept your proposal," Shiranui replied, knowing how much of a toll all the battles were taking on his Pokémon.

After healing up, Liam made an adjustment to his team, such as bringing his newly captured Duskull, Grimm to the party. A young trainer came to Liam and asked if he could help with a trade evolution. He wanted his Machoke to evolve into a Machamp. The trainer's Machoke stood next to him.

"Machoke, the Superpower Pokemon and the evolved form a Machop. Its muscular body is so powerful, it must wear a power-save belt to be able to regulate its motions. It can lift a dump truck with one hand. Using that power, it helps people with heavy jobs." Liam agreed, saying he had one he needed as well. He traded SHerlock for the Machoke and after the evolutions, they were traded back. Both Pokemon were called out of their Pokeballs and Liam scanned both of them.

"Machamp, the Superpower Pokemon and Machop's fully evolved form. Its four ruggedly developed arms can launch a flurry of 1,000 punches in just two seconds. It can also use its four powerful arms to pin the limbs of its foe, then throws the victim over the horizon.

Alakazam, the PSI Pokemon, and Abra's fully evolved form. Its brain cells multiply continually until it dies. As a result, it remembers everything. Its brain can outperform a supercomputer. Its IQ (intelligence quotient) is said to be around 5,000.
" After the trainer left, Liam remembered he had a Fire Stone and called out Growliethe. He put the Fire Stone near the Puppy Pokemon to induce evolution.

"Arcanine, the Legendary Pokemon, and the evolved form,of Growliethe .A Pokémon that has long been admired for its beauty. It runs agilely as if on wings. Its magnificent bark conveys a sense of majesty. Anyone hearing it can't help but grovel before it. "
Liam returned to Shiranui so they could return to the tower.

The heroes returned to the tower and Shiranui was keeping a lookout for anything out of the ordinary.

After getting further up the tower this time, Liam turned a corner and immediately darted back around. He told Shiranui that Team Rocket was here and they had to devise a plan.
