Basic Outline:
-I’m putting this in the Advanced Section for a reason, I intend on running it with pretty high standards.
-The duels themselves, when they come about, will be done either using Dueling Network or DevPro, depending on what the majority opts for.
-I’ll be proposing TCG rules for the most part, but some OCG cards and other illegal or banned cards will be used as plot devices.
-I’m going to be upfront about this, this isn’t a YGO competition, it is a Roleplay which using the card game as a combat system and a plot device.
-It is neither based in real life nor in any of the anime universes. If your character is German, for example, please don’t provide an anime picture as their appearance. Information on the setting follows.
-Currently looking to see who is interested. I can provide a lot more information at request but I'm going to wait until interest is actually garnered.
Plot Outline
The year is 2079. Technology has advanced significantly over the past six decades. Massive super city landscapes have grown across the face of the planet. Much of the remained has been repurposed as farmland or else left in ruins from the rapid expansion. The planet has reached an environmental balance for the first time in centuries, albeit a very unsteady one. War has subsided for the most part, although many minor resource conflicts still persist in poorer parts of the world.
The increase in computational power, and advances in quantum processing, mean that video games have evolved beyond mere visual interactive experiences. Now entirely real virtual realities exist, and people often work just to pay their way in these digital landscapes.
Alongside this increase in computation prowess rose a new technology; holographic projection. Although first mainly used for military and general entertainment purposes, it has since spread to use in TCG’s causing them to explode in popularity like never before. The most popular of these is a Japanese made TCG called Yu-Gi-Oh!.
In this game, two duellist duke it out using a variety of monsters, spells and traps until one comes out on top. The inclusion of holographs has made the game a massively endearing visual spectacle and elevated it to the status of eSport extraordinaire. Regional Championships often attract crowds of ten’s of thousands, with National Finals being the largest sporting events of the calendar. World Championships are now held once every five years, with only a single duellist from each nation allowed entry; often the one who performed best in the previous four years of Regional and National Championships.
Many duellists play with professional teams that receive a multitude of sponsorships and endorsements, often earning six figure salaries. The sport has spread all across the world; children dream of meeting and beating their heroes. Middle-aged office drones wished they’d tried their hand at the Pro Circuit and card packs sell like wildfire.
This is where you come in. You are a young adult who has grown up playing the game. You have demonstrated quite the skill when it comes to strategy and timing, and thus have earned a place in the training academy of one of the top Pro Circuit teams; for now. You won’t last long unless you can prove yourself to be up to the challenge.
