Yes, provoking an enemy requires more effort than just attacking them. You can roleplay this in various ways: the character can scream and make noise, use verbal taunting, push the ally out of the way to attract attention, throw some object at the enemy, or something elseβ€”use your imagination. However, as long as you somehow state that you provoked that enemy, it will be enough. If simply attacking an enemy would be enough, we'd rip the control/attention of that enemy from each other left and right; I want those who have made tank-like characters to be able to... well, tank. That is correct, there are no 'health points,' since this 'system' is not a game. Stagger is just an ambiguous number that takes into account the entirety of character/enemy actions, rather than just the result of some action. So, if you attack an enemy or an enemy attacks you, regardless of whether you are hit or not, the stagger is counted. I hope this makes sense.Stagger gain = attack attempt + any attack result (hit or miss). This is basically just an anti-godmodding system. Even if you roleplay as if you are never hit by the enemy when they attack, their attempts at attacking you will eventually wear you down.

Hmm, makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me. c:

Kat put up an ice shield around herself and Roy.

It's just water at this time, she hasn't turned into ice yet in order for our powerhouses to tie some enemies up.

Edit:
I posted again to get the combat going. To summarize: Olivia provoked Alpha, Beta, and Delta; she used her "ride the lightning" spirit; and she struck the Alpha Raptor once, which attempted to retaliate, but unsuccessfully due to it being affected by the 'Darkness' status effect. All of this netted 65 stagger towards the Alpha Raptor's 120. Once it reaches 120, anyone can one-shot kill it with any type of attack.

Aaron's targets, Gamma and Epsilon, suffered 40 and 25 stagger respectively.

No changes to our character's stagger meters/limit gauges, (yet).

I've been watching chakram demonstration videos to get the right idea of how I see Mags using them. They used sugar cane in some videos because they thought it was the same consistency as human bone, some of the rings are so simple in design yet it just cuts right on through. It's very interesting in looking up the history for some of these weapons.

Mind linking the videos? I found some on YouTube, but I'd like to see the ones you've watched.

* - Some random guy using one like Xena did, he even brings out some badass looking sword at one point. I thought it was a good reference in distance throwing and how smaller ones might be used. Obviously he puts a lot of throwing power into it, which makes me thing that Mags has to basically put her whole body into pulling it off. The entire video I think is just rather cool, not sure what language is spoken though. He's had it for six years, obviously a lot of practice would be needed, which is good because Mags has been training with hers since they came to the academy.

* - A piece from the History Channel that gives some history of it and a demonstration with the chakrams and sugar cane. It's nice to hear it from the point of view of an actual warrior and what they're used for, the ones he uses are so simple and it goes through the sugar cane no problem. But it's common they carry more than one, obviously Mag might have to purchase more later down in the story line, two might not be enough! d:

* - 2:55 is where they begin talking about the chakram, the first bit is about katana. It briefly shows the chakri which Mags wears around her wrists and ankles, though she doesn't take these off, though it shows how he might use them in close combat as well. I'm trying to find the Discovery Channel video that was used in clips, it seems a bit more informative.

There are also videos from video games with chakrams being used, such Soul Calibur, Reckoning, and Dynasty Warriors.

* - I like the way Tira uses her whole body to wield her weapon, this is an example of how Mags might use her biggest chakram. The harsh conditioning of her training would have introduced this flexibility. But it's just a reference video of course, Mags isn't that badass.

Should I apply special effects to Freddy's Shouty powers, since they're mostly meant as crowd control? Maybe apply an aggro-increase to deafening roar, and fatigue to concussive force? Aura of Terror should obviously apply despair and fatigue on targets that don't resist it.

@Rockette; very interesting videos indeed. However, I thought the first one a bit weirdβ€”the guy was creepy. The History Channel was the one I found myself. I think the idea of Tira's massive, fantastical chakram suits the roleplay better, considering it's a blatant homage to Final Fantasy. Remember that Maggie is as strong, or perhaps stronger than several grown men, just as the rest of the friends are due to being Guardians. So, she is totally a badass.

@Adora; sure, go ahead and add those status effects to your spirits. However, regarding your post, when you provoke enemies and pull 'aggro,' be absolute. You don't have to wait for anyone's permission to shift their enemies' attention to you, as they will do the same should Freddy have troubles.

Well then I guess I need to remind myself that everyone is capable of being a badass, I'm too used to limitations. I'll probably use Tira's style as a close reference then considering her chakram size is close to Mag's and having to use her whole body to perform the attacks. Her small size would be advantageous then, I'd think, but also a hindrance later on. But I'm getting ahead of myself!

Edit: I need more sleep, I'll finish Mag's battle post tomorrow.

Well, okay den... make me feel bad about Roy/Thael. MAKE ME FEEL BAD.

Q_Q

Granted, Roy is convinced there's a timer on their relationship and that, at the end of it, he'll do something extremely stupid because he does stupid things and that'll separate them. Mega Sad Panda. There is hope for Freddy... maybe? I don't know. The story will has to pan out and, then again, the Roy/Thael romance is just a side thing that I'm certain shouldn't have too much of the focus put on it. *Cough* Oz and I shall do our best not to make it a focal point.

Posted. So I think I got that alright? I figured not all five would be able to complete counterattacks before Freddy got there and drew aggro, does that make sense?

I stayed vague with damage done. If I understand correctly, Prisk will determine damage actually done.

Hope I didn’t take too many actions, let me know if there are any problems. I can change the targeted raptors or number of targets if necessary. I realize I'm engaging more targets than others, but I did sort of design Thael do exactly that in his role as tank. I also figured that the other raptors would be free to descend on Kim and the back lines, so everyone else has a chance to get up close and personal if they like.

EDIT: Awwwww Adora god dammit I feel so guilty now. It's great.

@Everyone: Love how this is shaping up, keep up the awesome posting!

So.

*Roy is beside Kat, who has summoned a thin stream of water around them - waiting to finish them all off.
*Aaron ran off attacking Gamma and Epsilon; gaining their attention.
*Olivia chucked a rock at Alpha; gained its attention. Blinded it with her spirit.
*Beta and Delta continued towards Remi; Jyn came to his aide, attacked Delta and currently has Beta held within time.
*Freddy does his thing, helping Aaron and drawing attention.
*Thael did his thing, got minor damage, saved Aaron's butt.

So the raptors currently engaged in combat are: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Kappa, Lambda, Sigma, Omicron, Omega. Leaving Zeta just there. Correct? I think so.

Edit: Or well actually Zeta would be drawn to Freddy then because of his shout.

Just compiling this for summary sake and for my own post.

I love reading about subplots that people conjure. They're extremely important for many reasons, and they help to fill the pages whenever you feel like there isn't anything else to say. This is yet another reason why the timelines exist, so that you don't have to abruptly end some subplot prose/interaction because the GM is pushing the story.

It isn't damage per se, it's just a score of how pompously aggressive and creative you were in your post. Even if you have your character attack something, and it misses for whatever reason, you still get points that count towards defeating the enemy, just not as much as you would've if you did hit the enemy.

If you want guidelines for actions or Action Points, I can make that happen. However, it shouldn't be necessary unless you kill all the enemies in one post.

Oh my lord.

Why does everyone think Roy is a terrible support type character? T_T I know I designed him to be the go to rogue, but his powers and fighting style turned out a lot more support oriented than I'd hoped. Or rather a heavy debuffer. I was thinking of adding certain types of status ailments to his attacks, but I can only think of the ones that affect him after coming out of too many teleports. ._.

Is it okay to do the status effects on the fly if a particular power is flexible enough for that? I think the natural disasters that the imps create (via the surrounding nature) would take on different effects based on what type of disaster they conjure. Such as an avalanche adding ice elemental damage, but also adding a status ailment like Fatigue. I'm iffy about this particular thing because I don't want anyone worry that I might potentially abuse it. The power itself is very particular to the surrounding environment. If you require, I can give you a rundown on what I think should do what and you can give me feedback and a yes or no on whether or not it's okay. :o It's something I've been thinking about since you brought the status effects up, but don't want to put into effect until I get your okay, Prisk.

Right now, the only thing the imps can conjure is either an earthquake or a rainstorm, which could have various effects depending on who takes advantage of it. Of course, these status affects will definitely affect everyone caught in it, which should be eventful, but Roy is careful when his friends are concerned.

The more I think about it, the more I see Roy as a very combo oriented character, which I think ties him down more as a support than anything else. Actually, I think I like the combo aspect of this particular power more than anything else, in regards to everyone's elements and powers. Such as Jinxed (Rainstorm) + Thunderclap to give Olivia a giant conduit over a bunch of enemies. All of this done in a controlled environment, of course. *cough*

If I have to chose between one or the other (and I definitely don't mind that) I am happy to chose the combination element over specific status effects for specific disasters. I don't really see Roy being extremely useful without anyone else to follow up on his particular attacks, either and it goes for both the combo aspect and the status effect one. I think he gives people openings to attack rather than being an outright damage dealer. I might be thinking about this too hard, but I like thinking of creative ways to fight enemies other than the usual bash 'em, smash 'em, blow 'em up wif magic.

TL;DR: I am rambling. I want to know if I can add status effects to certain disasters instead of giving the Jinxed power a specific set, such as an earthquake adding fatigue or a large mist adding darkness. Or whether I should allow it to be open for combos with other powers such as Olivia's Thunderclap and a Rainstorm, etc. Dunno how it'll work out well, especially now that I look at everyone's damn powers and notice not a lot of things can actively combo aside from the obvious Water + Lightning = Instadeath or Water + Kat = Infinite Resources. Maybe a Aaron and a Tornado = Giant Fire Spout. I'll have to think more on it.

Man, I ramble even in my TL;DR's.

I honestly didn't know where to put Mags.
So.

I stuck her next to Roy and Kat because Olivia ordered two people to guard her and since Aaron ran off...

I'm sorry? ; - ;

I guess the way I wrote it was to be misunderstood.

It's okay. I'm mainly referring to Aaron; I just said something now because Mags was being a good friend. T_T Roy is still sore from having Aaron abandon them, like unwanted children on the steps of an orphanage.
