I have been thinking about something for my future plays and possibly this one. It might be asking a lot from people on a roleplaying forum, but I have found that irregular posting agitates me, so my idea was to have personal posting schedules for everyone, consistent posting. You set your own schedule, but you stick to it no matter what. You would have to, of course, take into account unforeseen circumstances in life, so realistic schedules would range from weekly to bi-weekly, and so on.

The idea here is that you know, without doubt, that there will always be a post from Rockette, Ex, JJ, or whoever, at whatever time they set for themselves. The length of their posts does not matter, only that they are consistent. I do not know about you guys, but I tend to work better when there is a deadline, because you cannot procrastinate, blame ‘writer’s block’, or whatever else. There will be bad posts and there will be good posts, short and long, but that is fine.

However, I have yet to think about which that is better: to limit posting to once in your schedule or any number of posts you can muster. The former adds consistency, but prevents you from posting during periods in which you have a lot of spare time. The latter removes consistency, as the number of posts you conjure in your schedule will fluctuate, even if one post is guaranteed.

I would rather know that there will be a post from each person within some designated timeframe, no matter what the length of it, than sit around and wait for someone’s masterpiece or something that might not come at all.

Honestly, I just can't do it. I can commit to continuing to post regularly. I cannot commit to hard deadlines. There are three reasons for this:

First, as a writer, I take a long time and I underestimate how much time I need.
Second, RPGuild is not and can never be my first priority. There's something like a dozen other things that come first. Those things will push RPGuild off my schedule sometimes.
Third, I do this in my spare time, and the nature of that time is unpredictable. I don't know what my availability is like week-to-week. Some days, like today, I check the forums multiple times in a few hours. Sometimes, I don't check them at all

I totally respect the goal behind the idea, I like the idea of consistency and if I were writing for TSW in a professional capacity, I would be totally in support. Since I'm not, though, I have to balance behaving professionally with keeping my actual real-world obligations in mind. I try hard to keep everyone advised of my plans and my schedule, but I only have so much control over the factors that go into my availability; not enough for this kind of scheduled posting.

What I COULD do is write a number of posts and schedule the time when they'll be posted AFTER they're written - but I don't think that's fesiable with our structure.

@Prisk: Sorry, Prisk, but I’m going to have to agree with Ex on this one. I do like the idea of deadlines and I have done my best to keep up to them (even if I write not-so-great posts XP), but this month has made me change plans. It is no one’s fault that the changes happened, of course, it’s just a part of life. So to make a schedule that we would be able to keep to 100% for the RP, I think, is not really possible: something in RL will effect it.

Quite frankly, the application that I have mentioned about two weeks ago is something that will determine how I will live for the next few years, so realistically speaking, I should only be focusing on that. Even though I know I’m not the best writer in the group and that not everyone always read what I write, I do think I have a responsibility to stick around to the end and I do enjoy being part of the RP: it is a hobby that I can indulge my creativity in. But that’s what it is, a hobby and not a job.

I would never restrict it to one post, since that could mean that a really enthusiastic person would not be able to post when they actually have the time and the motivation. And it’s never good to kill someone’s motivation as it would most likely lead to the termination of their interest as well.

Speaking of posts, we’re not done with the collab, but I felt like I needed to post something… so, yeah, I’m going to post soon. I wanted to check something with Rockette first, but if I don’t get a response in a few more hours, I’ll post it as it is and change it up later.

Those are some interesting points, but I do think that commitment and consistency are two entirely different things. For example, staying in the play until the bitter end is commitment, posting consistently doesn't necessarily mean the latter. But, If I had to choose one of the two, I'd choose commitment. I have a habit of making time for the things that I enjoy to do, but everyone is different and we all have different living conditions. I suppose I'm just cranky and agitated by my own mistakes, weirded out by this place, and nothing would delight me more than to close this down and either start over or leave. That being said, I should probably take a break and indulge in normal hobbies instead.

While my consistency is not ideal, my commitment is unwavering.
It's just my job, family and social sanity that are priorities. But I think the points have been exhausted enough, I'm just posting here to notify I'm home and working on my post-collaboration stuff with JJ.

I also am not too consistent, but I'm trying to work on better scheduling my time with work and stuff I do for fun/random. But, I'm positive that Ex, I, and Oz come in a package deal (or at least I hope Oz) and Ex and I's commitment is also unwavering, or at least Ex's is. I can be weird with commitment, but I assure you that I intend to stay for at least the 10th part in this story! >:D

Also, if you find yourself getting aggravated at the RP or yourself or just in general with the site, then the best thing to do is take a break from it before it becomes too much of a chore or a job! It's what I do. I take a day or two (sometimes three if I'm stressing out) to just play video games or watch movies or gorge out on a bunch of freakin' ice cream. You can burn yourself out on almost anything, but I don't think I need to tell you that, or any of this, for that matter lol, but it's nice to have a reminder that, when shit hits the fan, people will understand why you disappeared for a day or two! I know I will. :)

As for me, I'm going to try and get a post up this week, when my busy-ness starts to die down, which should be sometime tomorrow. :D Hopefully.

I shall do shorter responses for Samuel dialog with everyone. It seems to me that collaborations, if not limited to dialog only, takes more time than just responding normally to the ic. So, I'll be writing something up for Kim and JJ's post today/tomorrow. And since everyone will be talking to Sam, it's probably best to just do it through short posts in the ic.
