I'm not saying attacks should never hit a character, if someone's specifically being a Marty Stu and never getting hit when they could have afforded to take a hit for dramatic tension or such and they just decide "My character's too awesome to ever get hit" and godmodes through everything, sure auto-hit them a little. But moderation's still key in everything and you have to work with the player and know what kind of damage crosses over from "build tension and make things more exciting/dangerous" to "potentially permanently crippling or killing someone's character" and stressing them out over it maybe.

I think most of the time at least, you should trust your players to react appropriately and decide how/if their characters get hit.

Sep, You're free to join and either of those idea would be fine

Dblade, the statement about the guns was a joke. The tongue should have indicated that and I am sorry that it was lost in translation. As for auto-hitting, I was not attempting to cripple Blast Girl. There should be consequences to pursuing villains without any backup and any knowledge about their full capabilities. She stopped herself from being taken hostage but the villains weren't just going to let themselves be taken advantage of. Twister has a lot of strength in those tentacles and with both of those he could barely lift and release Blast Girl, her high gravity accounts for the rest of the hit.

But to be fair to Vita, I will amend the post to say her character hit a rack of clothing instead of going through a counter and into a wall. and in the future I will take more care in these kinds of decisions. I apologize for any undue stress I have caused to any of you because of this.

Well, it's just that... I know there should be consequences but Blast Girl has no healing abilities at all and only has light armor entirely on her chest and lower legs.. Storefronts have thick safety glass that's meant to withstand people hitting it pretty hard, and if she goes through it with no chance to slow herself down I think it would kill her. Or at least injure her badly enough that I think she'd end up out of the RP...

I really don't know what to do. I'm having trouble thinking of any way someone with the durability of a regular nineteen-year-old girl could survive that.

I don't really have a problem with her being thrown, or even getting hurt, but I don't want her to die or get hurt so bad she's out of this fight and the RP entirely...

that is why you don't rush in like that, this a superhero team rp and there for characters who are going to rush in without any plan or thinking should expect to get beat up by the villains. this is about team work, not who can beat the villain most and I like a good challenge so I don't mind villains being insanely powerful, that's what makes them awesome. seriously superheroes are always great when they have incredible villains, that is why Darkseid is one of the best villains in DC, he is powerful enough to wipe out all of the heroes and thus makes him cool. Not giving the heroes proper challenge is bad writing, so I say MrDidact should keep it up and make the villains as hard as possible, it makes it so there isn't any Mary Sues, and players learn proper teamwork.

... First off, Blast Girl took out one of the villains in one punch. They're not meant to be super-powerful and villains who are incredibly powerful showing up all the time would suck any enjoyment out of the RP. Secondly, rushing ahead was IC for Blast Girl, and she did try and call people to follow her. We are playing characters and characters are going to do what's in-character for them.

Finally, I do not think my character should be put into what currently seems like a situation that will cripple or kill her because of this. If that's not the case or I can do something to avert that outcome, it's fine.

I'm just pointing out that every action has a consequence and characters flaws can cause problems. You also forget this is a team of heroes with many different powers, some of us can heal people. ether way, I don't think GM should hold back because a character has a flaw. Character flaws are good because it causes the character to make mistakes, but if a character has a flaw and doesn't suffer consequences because of it then what's the point of having them?

Also none of the characters with healing powers have been shown to be able to heal anything seriously crippling or lethal. >.>

I think I've mentioned I'm okay with having her hurt if it's a minor injury that doesn't stop her from participating. There is kind of a huge gulf between that and what smashing through safety glass, if we are treating it like real safety glass, would cause.

Maybe for the sake of the RP we could use a willing suspension of belief and just act like safety glass works like it does in the movies here? In that crashing through it looks cool but hardly causes life threatening injuries?

If that's the case it's completely fine. I just... want to make sure that's what was intended if it is.

I would say yes, but I'd wait to hear from MrD first. I'd agree it would be a little unfair if Blastgirl was taken out this early through the gate because of her impetuousness, which is entirely in character.

Well yes I was operating on movie logic but if we really do want to keep realistic you could just have Blast Girl punch the window before she gets thrown through.

Translator's note: Shin's line means something like "Better and better," and can be used in the same context as something like "Good grief," or "Well, well, well."

I usually see it translated as "what a drag"... Or at least that's how they always translated it in Jojos.

...Anyways, at least have the start of a post written up now. This is probably going to turn out pretty bad, though. Hurm.

There really isn't any implicit translation. Just one of those phrases that more expresses a feeling than information.
