Well, imagine that you're a girl who lives on her own for much of her years and only has a roommate for less than a year. You live a life you don't want sane people to know and your background just screams SHADY. Now, imagine having someone break that barrier of secrecy in the most underhanded way. Had he told her that he beat her info out of some poor sap, she would have been much more understanding.
