I think it's fair to assume that if he does it with salt and whatnot, he'd do it with other things.

Also, if you fill a tub with sugar, and then melt it down, you can just lay in the stuff and have it harden around you to make a strong coating. That'll protect you from the nuclear fallout. And if not, then at least you'll make a tasty snack for the survivors.
