Is it safe to say that MatPat just made a video to cash in on the DDLC hype rather than having something legitimately new to bring to the table? As in, legitimately, not as any statement of ill will toward him.

It was more because he and the rest of the GT team loved the game and wanted to give it more attention, and to give attention to the coming game in 2018. It was one of the "here's a summary of what people have figured out" ones rather than a "here's a ton of stuff that I looked into myself and put together" one.
