So, you want Ming to essentially be an airbending master at thirteen. No. There are twenty-six tiers to airbending and some monks don't even get close. Aang, the Avatar, was the youngest at 12, and he only got 25 tiers as well as made a new technique. The character feels like you just wanted to "Master airbending, then move on to the plot" and I'm not going to allow that. There's not a strong enough sense of culture or identity, and there's no way he mastered advanced-level techniques at such a young age.

There is a young airbending master in the new episodes with Jinora earning her tattoos at a young age.

In the new episodes, they're rebuilding the Air Nation. I doubt they're being taught as strictly as the Eastern Air Temple is now. Furthermore, Jinora is the one whom got her tattoos, and she is the grand daughter of Aang.

It's not a good idea to question the precedent set by the Mod. Even if it happened a handful of times, it's not enough to justify commonplace exceptions. That's the reason why the mastery tattoos that Jinora received aren't arguably as difficult to get as the ones Aang received. Different cultures at different times. In an era of rebuilding, the rules are most likely more lax than they would be in the stoic era of attempted enlightenment.

We have more Airbenders than Earthbenders at the moment. I personally don't mind what you make. Earthbenders have the second largest array of subtypes, but Airbending is fun as fuuuuck, so it's personal preference.

I know I created this roleplay as a casual, but that doesn't mean I'm willing to take casual-level characters. I'm not insulting anyone. What I mean is that my goal is to preserve the health and variety of this roleplay, and that includes a lot of rather strict aspects to the Avatar world. I understand that everyone is apparently excited to see this interesting story and be part of it, but at the same time, I want everyone to know that I'm excited to see interesting characters made for this world to fit in it just right. Creativity doesn't need to break the rules or be something that questions the status quo, it can be something innovative or a new perspective. That said, take time and put effort into your characters. Even if we only do 2-4 paragraphs per post, I want the quality to be high. I might not ask for much in terms of amount, but activity and quality is what I aim for.

Honestly, I wasn't intending upon starting him off with it. Simply giving him to the potential to advance into it as the roleplay progresses and the cast (I assume) trains their abilities to better combat the Phoenix Kingdom.

While valid points, here are facts about me. I don't care whether the whole cast loses or the Phoenix Kingdom reigns supreme. It is my staunch belief that I, as GM, create this world and am here to tell a story as it unfolds in it. Whether that story is of uplifting success or tragic defeat is of no consequence to me.

Characters should be able to advance without needing Advanced Bending Styles. As a matter of fact, some literally never develop them. Regardless of progression or attempts, some characters might just be inept in terms of learning to Lavabend, plantbend, metalbend, sandbend, bloodbend, etc.

Not all characters are created equal. It is my stance that a character is meant to be an influence on others and the roleplay, not become powerful. Influence may mean influencing those whom are powerful. It may mean using a unique skill when the time comes. It may mean forfeiting one's life when the situation calls for it. This is as much a literary fabrication as it is a whole new world.

So, are you saying it's heavily discouraged to try and learn an advanced element with your character?

I think he's saying it shouldn't be your sole reason for a character, or a character's sole reason to live.

Ahkon

[Female | Sixteen | Air Nomad]

Ahkon is a fun loving air bender hailing from the Eastern Air Temple. As a child of the Air Nomads, Ahkon governs her life on the ideal of freedom above all else. She takes great joy in the nomadic principles of her people and while she's never seen eye to eye with the philosophy of dedicating ones life to reaching enlightenment, the idle of casting off ones earthly bounds and traveling the world to experience all the wonderful things it has to offer resonates deeply with her. It's the reason she abandoned the cultural center of the Air Temple to explore the world and 'find herself' in her own way, as opposed to doing it on a mountain top, isolated from the rest of the planet. Despite her personal disagreement with a stern air nomad tenet, she holds to the beliefs of her people strongly. She's a stern pacifist who only engages in combat when absolutely forced. Believing all life is sacred, the idea of taking another person's life is something she adamantly refuses. Reinforcing this belief, she's a strict vegetarian. Despite her views on violence, Ahkon does hold a strong sense of personal justice and views inequality between the nations, the rich and the poor and even benders and non-benders as shameful.

As to be expected of an air bender, Ahkon's a very easy going girl who's happy to drift in the wind and experience everything the various cultures of the world have to offer. She is plagued by a certain social awkwardness than only adolescence can truly explain and can be outright naive at times, her innocent and kind nature making her a prime target for those looking to manipulate a good heart. She can be quite mischievous and even childish at times, hosting a temper that is unusual among the very peaceful peoples of the air nomads. Having experienced the Phoenix Kingdom's tyranny up close and personal during her travels, she opposes the iron fist with which Ozai rules, but given her very anti-conflict ideology, she's yet to take any stands against the regime. However, one can only witness so much before they're forced into action and the time in which Ahkon may cast aside her ideals to assist the world at large draws ever closer.

Traits
[indent]Ever since she was a child, Ahkon showed herself to be a promising young air bender. Although her lack of discipline kept her from making the best of her natural talents, she took to the skill quite well and is very proficient with the skill of air bending. Holding a solid mastery over the basics and an adept grasp over more expert level techniques, when forced to fight Ahkon is a dangerous combatant and while she is not a master, she's certainly got the potential to become one.

Her fighting style is very traditional in nature, focusing primarily on avoiding her opponents and making use of strong evasive maneuvers to tire out her foes without needing to return their violence. When pushed on the offensive, Ahkon is capable of leveling massive blast of air delivering raw power unheard of from most, more tame air benders. As she refuses to take a life though, her combat skills focus only on disabling her opponents and not in inflicting permanent or lasting damage on them.

Physically she is a chiefly evasive person, capable of acrobatic feet normal people are incapable of thanks to her air bending. Her incredible flexibility puts her on par with many contortionists and to round off her physical attributes, she's always been a very fast person. Quick of both body, mind and reflexes she makes up for her lack of physical strength by being an incredibly agile and speedy foe.

Miscellaneous

Ahkon possesses a more 'modern' styled glider staff that favors aerodynamics as opposed to a more traditional desig. She is proficient in the art of flight with the glider and knows the basics of bojutsu to be used for self defense should her hand ever be forced.

Ahkon owns a pet flying bison named Wawa. Having raised the bison from calfhood, they share a very close bond and she often 'babies' the giant beast whenever possible. He is outfitted with a saddle and harness to be used as a form of transportation and among his species he is a larger than average bull.

She is a goddess with the tsungi horn.
