Hey, mod picking is not a strong point for me. Neither is having a backbone in general.

That's why I'll probably go with elections if this doesn't work out.

Name of nation: Confederatio Benetico

Species: Multiple due to the immigrant nature of the populace, however as of late the prime component is human.

Description of government: A reaction against the centralizing that most other interstellar species undergo, it is similar, though not identical, to a liberal democracy. As all citizens are of means, the government is very small and has only one responsibility: secure the rights of its citizens. Therefore, all legislation is passed via referendum, and executive power is invested in the Doge (in conscious imitation of Earth, as most members are Human) and the Federal Senate, a 20 man body (one from each planet) which has 10 year terms. The Doge has a lifetime appointment, and is head of state, but only posseses one significant power, that of Commander-in-chief. The head of goverment is the Principe of the Federal Senate, equivalent to the prime minister. The Federal Senate conducts all foreign policy including the decision to go to war. The decision to launch the missiles must be approved by the Doge and the Principe, or by 8 members of the Federal Senate.

Description of military: The military consists of only two branches, the Strategic and the Tactical Commands.
The Strategic Command is the main focus of the military. It comprises all the missiles silos, all the stealth ships, and capital ships, each of which carry the two weapons of mass destruction, generally named Catalyst and Quark bombs. Catalyst bombs are variable yield. By adding more catalyst, electron decay of the target is accelerated, from a large number of tactical weapons capable of destroying a ship to a small number strategic weapon capable of destroying a clustered fleet (with all electrons decayed in rapid fashion, the nuclei mutually repel and blast at rapid speed, blasting tactical levels of catalyst with them into other ships. Quark bombs are far more destructive, far more expensive and exceedingly rare. They contain strangelets, which convert all matter they touch into the less stable but lower energy strangelet configuration (intermediate state between nuclear matter and quarks) and turning whole planets into incredibly dense, hot lumps. Every Quark missile has its seperate faster than light drive.

The Tactical Command comprises all lesser ships, planetary defenses, and ground forces.

In general, the navy is extremely potent but small. In a general war with a large civilization, it would lose.

The combat fleet numbers at 250 ships, divided into 20 Arsenal strike groups. Each battle group is composed of one Arsenal ship, each carrying 10 quark missiles and 9990 dummy quark missiles loaded with antimatter heads among more conventional weapons, one guided missile cruiser, four destroyers and four attack submarines capable of cloaking.

The other 50 ships are Quark submarines, fully automated (except missile launching) which cloak and scatter across the galaxy in nebulae. In the event of a surprise attack on the Republic, they represent a survivable second strike against the aggressing state. They carry 5 quark missiles and 495 dummies.

Technological Overview: With its low population, only 75,000,000, the society is heavily automated. Soldiers are robotic, factories and ships are fully automated (with a small staff of sapient officers giving grand stategic direction or a manual override as needed.)

Cultural Overview: As prieviously indicated, it is a society of means and few laws. Its customs and names of places are dictated by the predominant species, in this case, humans. One common value exists in society no matter which species is in charge, that of the supremacy of the individual.

History: Founded long ago by members of a now extinct race who left their species in the face of overwhelming collectivization and socialization, the society was and is a society of makers, rather than takers. It grew as it invited certain members of other species to join as their species began to collectivize. Terrans were the most common invitees, and with high birthrates, they have grown to predominance. The state maintained its independence over the millenia through heavily armed neutrality, quark bombs being a centerpiece thereof.

Other: 10 inhabited planets, 200 planets, moons, and asteroids being exploited for resources by automated labor.

This duck person really seems to be abusing power. Is the OP still around? By the way, Kyelin, I am asking because I hope the first encounter with the Esurienti can be peaceful. They are built for war but war isn't their goal.

I like to ask how
Through this whole argument I have not mentioned my mod powers once or used them in anyway.

If you don't see it, duck, I wonder why OP does. It appears that several others in this roleplay have even seen it, just not specifically stated what they saw.

To be specific, no, you did not openly state "I'm a mod, therefore I can do this." But yes, you created actions that were unrealistic and when proven wrong, basically, your answer was 'just because' and that was supposed to tell us no matter how BS, it happened whether we liked it or not.

Something does not just happen because you say it does. An entire civilian station can not withstand a full scale attack. And whether you like long posts of attempting translation or not does not mean you should have the ability to understand all languages even those undiscovered. Such actions are abuse of powers.

Disliking something is no reason to go over it or around it.

Edit: Also, if such actions were not created under the pretense of being a mod, then the player must be re-evaluated to see if they can actually play NRP's correctly or be closely watched otherwise.

My arguments were not just cause, it may seem like that, but a lot of these argument posts were written when I was tired/sick/in a bad mood, so they may seem like that but there really not, and have some reasoning behind me.

And seriously? One guy infected plus a few other worm/parasite things is a full-scale assault?

Edit: I also don't hate darkwolf, I wouldn't say we are full on friends, but we are quite acquainted and often talk to each other, even if its only via steam.

I think it's less about mod powers being abused and more about several individuals in this roleplay having a very poor sense of scale when it comes to weapon yields, weapon performance and the capabilities of military forces and production.

For example, I don't know why people are fretting over the cost of things. Once you get into space and start mining asteroids, planets and moons using sophisticated automation technology, generic Earth-like economies (capitalism specifically) cease to be relevant. Everything basically becomes free and fielding truly massive space fleets is possible. The only thing that isn't free is time, I suppose.

Additionally, a starship that can fire solid projectiles at .50 percent of c makes me seriously wonder why the Terrans haven't conquered the entire galaxy yet with their version of the SDF-1 or Space Battleship Yamato, because firepower of that magnitude makes several things come to mind:

1) The material sciences of the Terrans. A barrel (or a twin-rail system) exposed to the tremendous forces of a projectile flying through it at 0.50 percent of c would have to be forged out of near-godlike materials.

2) The power generation of the Terrans. Accelerating a projectile to 0.50 percent of c is indeed possible using standard starship engines, but this process would demand many years of accelerating to work. To get a shell up to that speed in an instant would require hyper-advanced power generating systems (no, antimatter won't cut it; you're going to need exotic matter for this, or a massive reactor that would spend an ungodly amount of time charging the power-banks for this weapon ), some sort of capacitor that can safely store that amount of energy and discharge it immediately without exploding and some way to deal with the absurd amount of waste heat generated by this thing.

3) Some tachyon weapon that can destroy Australia with one shot.

4) And a 'cruising' speed that's ten times the speed of light.

Basically you've made a ship that can solo every nation in the roleplay with impunity; the engineering and scientific capabilities of the human species makes that of every other nation's in this roleplay literally look like chimps banging two rocks together. I'd hate to see what the FTL speeds of this thing are.

Also, worms that can eat through body armor. Alright.

Now all we need is Wilson to come in with an impenetrable PD field that makes all missile technology obsolete.

EDIT: I'm not asking for people to adhere to Hard Science, but the shit I'm seeing is flat-out ridiculous.

Seconded. However, 0.50C may be feasible depending on mass.

I can either warp for in-system FTL, which will pretty much make all combat capabilities useless and make scanning/radar unusable.

And, ASTA, if you would have read and paid attention and not be so you, you would realize that the Valkians primary defense will be armor, not shields or point defense. PD/Shield Clusters, maybe, but fighters will be more effective than missiles for taking those out.

Well, let's assume you want to shoot a golf ball, which according to Google should weigh about 1.6 ounces. That's pretty light.

Adjusted for kilograms, a golf ball comes out at 0.0453592 kg. 50 percent the speed of light is 539,626,424 km/h (or about 540 million kilometers per hour), which when adjusted for m/s comes out to be 1.49896e8 meters per second. When all of the work is done, you'll get about 509,583,641,782,553.6 joules of energy for this golf ball's impact. This is enough to basically core any science fiction starship regardless of its armor or energy shielding. 1 joule is equal to 1 watt over 1 second. Assuming 100 percent efficiency, you'd need to dump about 510 trillion watts of electricity behind each shot in order to launch this golf ball at 0.50 percent of c. 1 trillion watts is equal to 1 terawatt. IIRC, humanity used about 16 TW of power back in 2006, which means you'd need to have a reactor that can produce 31 times the amount of power consumed by the entire human race during that particular year. And rapidly fill magical energy banks with this amount of juice (and discharge them without the entire ship exploding). And somehow cool this weapon (and its electrical components) down after each shot (and probably during the charging process too; unsure).

For one shot.

As I said, why haven't the Terrans conquered the galaxy yet?

The Ethereals dot exactly have a home world. It's where abouts and fate are list to them. They get around in small war bands of two to twenty cruisers, and can be found in various locations as they move about.

Btw, on my phone :S

This makes zero sense. Why would a fighter be more effective than a missile at taking out PD?

You actually are using the wrong formula for the kinetic energy. Use Einstein's, not Newton's. Your answer is two orders of magnitude low.

0.0453592 kg at 0.50c= 6.304 times 10^14 joules, according to Wolfram alpha. 500 grams of antimatter is capable of producing 9 times 10^17 joules, therefore, 500 grams can propel over 100 such objects.

In 2009, humanity produced about 9 times 10^19 joules of electricity.

I put up a big of a longer post this time around, and to the more experienced writers here I like to ask for some advice.

I feel as if I got setting the scene down quite solidly but to me my characters lack much depth, or emotion. They seem very in-personnel and a bit cold, im wondering if you guys had any suggestions on writing them?
