The Mushroom Kingdom Freedom Fighters

The mushroom kingdom was a place of routine. Bowser appeared for one of his weekly attempts at kidnapping the princess. Mario and Luigi, after some trouble, would have her saved a day later and then the kingdom would spend the rest of the week relaxing. At first the populace panicked. The first time Peach was ever kidnapped the town was in an uproar. However, as time went on people began getting less and less concerned. Mario would always jump in to save the day; the citizens of the mushroom kingdom grew accustomed and their lord and sovereign being kidnapped by an invading country became less and less of a serious matter to the citizens until eventually it was as casual an event as the morning newspaper.

But you know what happens when a people grows complacent and soft? When they get all too comfortable with their situation and feel no reason to change? When things go wrong, the general populace will be powerless to stand up to threats on their own. What happens when you build a world on the fantasy of heroes, but then you suddenly take their defenders and idols away? Either the inhabitants of the mushroom kingdom will need to learn to take care of themselves, or be captured in the Koopa Clan's iron grip.

So what am I actually talking about? Essentially the plot is that Bowser kidnapped Peach... and neither Mario or Luigi are around to save them. The citizens of toad town sent several search parties in a desperate attempt to find the two of them, but it has been a month since Peach was abducted and they have yielded no success. Essentially we, the common people, are creating a movement to resist Bowser with some twists and turns along the way. I'll try to throw as many curveballs as I can in order to keep this seemingly simple and bare bones concept as interesting as possible. This is my first Role play I've ever lead myself, so let's make this a learning experience as well as a good time.

I'll lay down some information on you. This is strongly based on the mushroom kingdom based on the Paper Mario and Mario RPG series. The locations and characters from these games exist in the world, though vast majority of Canon NPCs we meet in this series will be villains. Toadsworth is working as acting ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom with Peach missing, Daisy's kingdom of Sarasaland is facing their own troubles and can't send much support, and Bowser's territory is steadily increasing as his army marches on to take out the Mushroom kingdom in their weakened state.

It's our job to fix this mess. Are you with me?

Rules

1. It's Mario. Keep it PG, guys. Most of us our old enough to handle this stuff, but the Mario kingdom isn't meant to be a place of sex and gore. This isn't the place for it.
2. Similar rules about Romance. Romance is acceptable, but I'll trust that you can use your own discretion and that I don't have to hand hold you through your romance subplot. This is Mario, remember that.
3. If any disagreements come up consult me about it. I'll try my best to solve any disagreements and be the best mediater I can.
4. Try to avoid power gaming if possible. The truth is, while our characters can be smart, quick, clever and strong, our enemies are powerful and most mushroom kingdom denizens are not combat trained. Create a character with room for growth.
5. If you have questions let me know. There are some aspects of this RP I may have not quite pieced together yet and appreciate people pushing me in the right direction.

-Appearance-

Bolita is green-skinned like all Beanish, and has small blue eyes. Her hair is a light brown and strait, though is usually put up in a ponytail. Her attire consists of a black headband around her forehead, a purple high-collared athletic jacket with a white undershirt (That can't be seen unless the jacket is unzipped.) and a black mini-skirt with compression shorts underneath. The shoes she wears are black tennis shoes, and her socks go halfway up to her knees. The satchel she carries about is brown in color, with a few badges from both the BeanBean and Mushroom kingdoms pinned on. Though it's contents are just beans for the most part.

-Techniques-

There is not much special about the Beanish people ability-wise, though individuals, such as the guards of BeanBean Castle, are known for using swords. Some individuals also use hammers as weapons, though they are rare. Bolita does not focus on the use of weapons; rather using her hands and feet to defend herself. Her skills aren't exactly honed, but she has learned a few techniques that are focused on taking down or dazing opponents. Beanish are for the most part light-weighted (Queen Bean not being included...) And that allows for them to be quite agile, and spring up quite high with their jumps. That being said, most Beanish are fragile as well, unable to take much damage unless they want their game to be over.

Hammerblow: A technique used to break enemy defenses and deal moderate damage. Interlocking her hands at the fingers similar to holding a hammer, she swings downwards, usually aiming for the head of the opponent. Durable enemies with shells or other natural defenses won't be as effected by the strike due to Bolita not being strong enough to bust through the hard shell, though if she can manage to hit their heads or soft spots, it'll still be quite damaging. With enough acrobatic skill, it may be possible to add more force to the attack starting from the air. Though she's not experienced enough to actually attempt it in a fight.

Low Sweep: A technique that can both damage enemies and trip them up. The move is a simple quick swing of one foot aiming for the legs of her enemies, in an attempt to knock them off balance and leave them open to another attack. It can also be useful for countering incoming Koopa Shells, or kicking away Koopa's that are already hiding inside their shells. A sturdy opponent wouldn't be fazed by this move, leaving Bolita open to being attacked. She is usually smart enough to know when not to use it, but she can get careless. With enough acrobatic skill, she could deliver entirely new, more damaging attacks with aerial kicks. Her skill is not exactly high enough to attempt anything worth mentioning, though.

Bean Flick: Bolita has had a habit of picking up beans since she herself was a teeny bean. She keeps them in a satchel she brings pretty much everywhere. She only ever found one use for them, and that was flicking them at people who were annoying her. This habit has never changed, and she'd even be willing to flick them at enemies to get them irritated and careless. This move isn't damaging, but can draw aggro away from those on the battlefield that are in danger. The enemies' frustration can cause their attacks to be more brutal when aimed towards her, therefor endangering her greatly if she ends up being hit. Though their carelessness makes them easier to dodge.

-History-

Bolita spent most of her childhood growing up in the BeanBean Kingdom. Hearing the tales of how Mario, Luigi, and the great Prince Peasley saved the entire kingdom from the hands of Cackletta from the inhabitants of the capital Castle Town. It was enough to make the girl want her own adventures; full of fun and even a little danger. But since Mario and Luigi left, the kingdom had been peaceful. The place was far too dull for an adventure; she needed somewhere more exciting. Occasionally the news of Bowser's actions and Mario's victories over him reached their ears; and this made it clear to her that of all places, the Mushroom Kingdom was certainly where her adventure would be. They seemed to always have something happening.

Of course, she never knew how casual Bowser's schemes were. To her it sounded dangerous and exciting, she wanted to see all the commotion for herself. Through her younger years she never got the chance however, not until she was 19. Some of the Beanish began inhabiting the Mushroom Kingdom, and Bolita, along with her family, were some of them. The total number of Beanish was under a hundred, so they were quite a rare sight. Only around 7, countering Bolita, her mother, her father, and little brother, lived in Toad Town. Most of the others were more spread out across the different landscapes.

Bolita had never considered her need for self-defense, really. Though as she listened to the stories of Mario and, very occasionally, Luigi, she figured out just how dangerous their adventures were. There was a Dojo in town, ran by an old toad who referred to himself simply as "The Master", that taught self-defense to those willing to learn. Bolita figured it was the right place to go, and joined the Dojo under The Master's teachings. She was a rather dedicated student that learned most of what she knew from her fellow students. She wasn't talented enough to pull off some of The Master's techniques, but managed along her own path.

At the current date, with the panic set in about Mario and Luigi not being around to save Princess Toadstool Peach, Bolita has seen it as a chance to go on an adventure of her very own. Though Bowser's apparent power of the Mushroom Kingdom inhabitants was painfully obvious, so running in wasn't perhaps the best option. She's currently looking for a solution to this issue. Comrades were necessary, she figured.
It wasn't a task for one girl, that's for sure.

Name: DJYosh (Did his parents name him that?)

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Race: Yoshi

Personality: Energetic, Loyal, Naive

Techniques: Yoshis are generally very quick and good at jumping long distances, but they are poor at vertical jumping and very much lack in upper body strength. Generally Yoshis fight with a combination of kicks, head butts and tail slams, occasionally throwing in some egg and tongue based techniques for good effect. DJ is a quick runner who can deliver powerful blows if given enough space to move, but he lacks technical skill and can be exceptionally clumsy in tight and confined spaces. If he isn't careful his speed can be his own downfall just as readily as his opponent's.

Brain-Bruiser: DJ has an exceptionally tough skull and a nose capable of absorbing the impact. He can slam his tough noggin down on an enemy with differing levels of impact depending on how fast he is moving. Often he will combine this technique with speed in order to deal great damage, but he has to be very careful with this ability. If DJ misses, his head will have a blind date with solid ground and he will damage himself. Worse yet, he could try this technique on a shelled Koopa or a Beetle and risk knocking himself out completely. This is a high risk high reward technique that can cause some serious damage enemies and DJ alike.

Yolk-Bomb: Another rather straight forward ability. DJ can swallow objects whole in order to create an egg. He then will throw it at you, because getting hit in the face with an egg hurts. This ability can do anywhere from none to medium to high damage, depending on the quality of the item he swallowed in order to create the egg. Swallowing a koopa shell makes the egg more durable, swallowing a fire flower makes it burst into flames, and swallowing a mushroom causes it to restore health instead. This is a very adaptive and unique ability, but it can also be incredibly expensive on resources. Most of the time DJ will just swallow rocks to produce eggs because powerups ain't cheap, yo.

Brief background history: DJ can only be described as a roamer. DJ's egg was discovered buried in the sandy beaches of the mushroom kingdom, and since then he has never seen the lush forests of Yoshi Island nor has he been properly conditioned by other Yoshi. He was adopted by a family of koopas who raised him to be a good kid, but he quickly grew restless of the simple lifestyle they lead and set out on his own. Since then he has done nothing but travel, roaming from village to village looking for his calling. He would never spend more then a week getting to know everyone in each town before setting off again. He's a bright and cheerful spirit but utilimately he feels lost.
DJ's most recent stop is Toad Town. Surprisingly he hasn't brought himself around since he heard of how used to routine the townsfolk are, but with the recent trouble he decided to check it out. There was something about a high activity high trouble situation that makes him determined to help out.

This site can be a tad on the silly side. It has it's flaws, but is slowly being fixed up over time. I can't wait until we get some improvements such as hiders inside hiders. That just helps keep RP's with a load of information nice and tidy, instead of a huge wall of mess that is very painful to look through. :s

I like your character, by the way. I've always had a soft spot for Yoshi's. <3
