Name: Melina "Mana" Yelis
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Shifter Form: Fae - Thunderbird
Appearance:
The first thing everyone will think upon seeing Mana is that she is still a teen. Due to the fact her body stopped growing when she was 14, she retained the appearance of a teenage girl, something which works both for her advantage and disadvantage. She stands at about 1.57m and has a rather slim figure. Another strong thing about her appearance is her blue hair, which is something extremely unusual for humans from Earth. She always has her hair in a ponytail, and she ensures it reaches the back of her neck and doesn't go beyond it. Other than that, she has a scar that goes across her back, from her left shoulder to mid back, just above her spine.
Shifter Appearance:
While the pic above describes how her hands, arms and head appear like, her body does not change it clothes and retains the ones she is wearing. The feathers she grows on her arms are blue, and the ponytail she has raises a bit, becoming more like a wing from the back of her head. Very often it is possible to see lightning go through her body, which appears to move between different spots on her body, never going to the same place twice in a row. Her eyes also become more bird like, and a couple of small blue wings appear from right above where her ears are. If one were to look to where her ears are, however, they would find the ears have somewhat vanished.
Another small note is that her clothes do not disappear, but also appear to become part of her body while in the Shifter form, allowing them to remain fine with the lightning that is constantly going around her body.
Abilities:
Mana is a good athletic and somewhat agile. She is quite a computer geek, so she has some expertise when it comes to different types of technological things. She also tries to hide it but she has a very pleasant singing voice.
Powers:
The Thunerbird's nature is often said to make shifts in the weather, but that is not exactly the case when it comes to Mana. While in her human form, she gets a slight boost of speed, and if someone irritates her too much, tiny bits of lightning can be seen coming out of her eyes, but those lightnings are only for show and completely harmelss.
While in her Shifter form she gains several abilities, with most having both a good and bad effect. She becomes capable of manipulating lightning up to a large degree, depending on the amount of focus and energy she is putting into it. The bad side of it is that trying to focus on striking smaller areas requires more power and concentration, often leading to her being completely open the smaller the area she is trying to hit is. Smaller abilities she gains from manipulating lightning is enhanced speed and being capable to use Lightning as a rope towards metal objects, thus allowing herself to pull herself directly towards those metal objects. The bad side of this is that the moment she had used a lightning to catch a metal object, it becomes hard for her to let go of it unless she directly touches it with her hands.
Due to the nature of the Thunderbird as a type of bird, one would think that Mana also gained the ability to fly. That is true, but Mana tries to use her flying for defensive reasons only, otherwise you could catch her trying to stand on a high ground, but not in the air. Along with the flying she had gained improved vision, which allows her to be capable of seeing even while flying and with the wind going right at her, not having to suffer from the tunnel vision problem some people would the faster they went. If someone hits her with a physical attack, there is a slight chance of that person feeling static around his body due to the lightning that moves throughout Mana's body.
The last ability she has from the Thunderbird is the most powerful one she possesses, which is rather destructive and uncontrollable, much like actual lightning is. Thunderclap. By focusing lightning at her arms and quickly clapping them together, Mana is capable of creating a powerful sound and also sends several lightnings in random directions and chain between several targets before dying out. The targets will have a strong burn mark where they were struck by the lightning, and if the target was made from metal, then the metal would also bend and perhaps even twist a bit. This ability also sends out a strong gust of wind which could tear up trees from their spot. The main badside of this ability is also what makes Mana not want to use it. Its uncontrollable, which means it is very likely to hit both allies and foes.
Background:
Before explaining Melina's history, I need to explain a short something about her parents, so you'll be able to fully understand the history. 120 years before present time, Melina's great grandfather from her father's side, who lived on Endola, went on a business trip to Earth. There, he met his future wife and fell in love with her, and five years later, he decided to move to Earth so he could be with his loved ones always. After performing all of the arrangements required, a proccess which took him several years, he had left Endola and moved to Earth, where he started a family with his loved one. Her great grandfather's name was Malcolm.
Nearly 100 years passed and Melina was born in a hospital at Barcelona, Italy. At first, she appeared to have brown hair, which was someone both her parents had. Overjoyed that they have a healthy baby girl, they took her home, but found they had difficulty with coming up with a name for her. After giving their baby girl a shower, her father was amazed to discover a blue hair among the brown, and decided that in honor of his grandfather, who had passed away several years ago and possessed blue hair which didn't appear to go to his children, that they will name her Melina. It wasn't directly taken from Malcolm, but her father thought that as long as they knew it, then thats all they ever needed, and her mother agreed.
As time slowly passed, it would become apparent that the brown hair she was initially born with was slowly replaced by blue hairs. At first her mother wasn't sure what to think about it and expressed her worries, but Melina's father assured her that if his grandfather was fine with his blue hair, then she will be as well. He had no idea how wrong he was. Melina grew up and already in pre-school it became obvious the other children and their parents didn't want Melina to be around. Due to her very unusual hair colour, the other children made fun of her, and their parents tried to get her kicked out of the facility due to thinking she is some kind of a freak, even while knowing people with blue hair exist somewhere else, where it is a natural hair colour.
This made life for Melina hard and slightly depressive, making her time during the first years of school pass in soltitude. She had always kept to herself and appeared to be buried in her small pads and computers all the time. She had slowly started to become good with computers, and by the time she was in middle school, she had understood the technology better than most people of her age, and had joined a small social group that put an emphasis on understanding the technology today under the name "Mana".
It was also around this time that she had stopped physically growing. Noticing this while others in her age kept on growing made her even more depressed, and because of this she spent more time on learning about the technologies, which was the point her father told her that even if she wasn't growing anymore, she needed to take care of herself and begun training with her on her physical body. After a year of training it became rather apparent that Melina was enjoying the excersizes, as it was another way for her to take her mind off her life.
At highschool, she refused to introduce herself as Melina. She had decided to try and have a fresh start, even with people still looking at her with an odd look due to not being used to the Blue hair. She had instead introduced herself as Mana, and took a more positive attitude, wanting to make a change in her life and have proper friends, not just ones she knows through the social group. And the change has worked in her favor, with her gaining a few friends from her highschool.
It around the beginning of the highschool when she started to fully understand the meaning of the war. She had seen recruiters come to the highschool to get some of the seniors to join, ones who were willing to finish their education at a later time in order to aid protecting the country. At first, Mana was somewhat scared from the thought there is such a great war going on that they are even recruiting highschoolers. Decided to properly look it up and not just listen to small things, she started to learn more about the war and how big it really was. She also learned that the Disk her great grandfather came from, Endola, was the one to start the war.
After a couple more years have passed, and Mana became 18, the recruiters have approached her and asked if she would like to join. Initially, she was inclined to say no, but after getting a bit of support from her family and friends that she should go for it, she had decided to accept and joined what she had learned was named Shifters. She had been brought the the facility in Germany, where it took the researcher there a couple of days before finding the mythic creature she was compatible with, which amazed her. She was compatible with a Thunderbird, which appeared amazing to her.
While talking with the many other people about what they got, she was suddenly taken away for questioning. It was about her heritage, about the fact her great grandfather was not originally from Earth, but from their current enemy, Endola. She had kept insisting over and over again, for five days straight, that she was loyal to Earth and had never been to Endola or even thought about it, and that helping to protect Earth was why she was there, not to spy or do any other act. A couple more days later she was sent to the facility where the tests to see if she could become a shifter.
After successfully passing all the tests, she found herself in the lab where the real magic happened. Even though she hadn't seen any of the actual prossess, due to being unconcious, she could still remember how excited she was, and also how surprised she felt upon seeing how she appeared after waking up. If she could describe the feeling in a single word, it would be incredible. She felt like her entire body was tingling, but in a fun kind of manner, and seeing the lightning covering her was even more amazing. She had no idea a human body could even do such a thing. She was a bit curious about the wings she had gained and was about to touch them to test them out, when she realised she also had claws, meaning if she wanted to touch anything, she had to be extra careful.
For the first time in a long time, she felt like she belonged here. The fact they had allowed her to go through this to help Earth in the war made her realise that she was accepted. After all the years of being rejected by others, she had been accepted by the people of earth, and not just any people, but the ones who are currently fighting others who have hair just like hers.
After this, she had been sent to the Academy, where she had slowly learned how to properly control her newfound powers that came. She had also realised that she had gained a bit of speed in her human form, and that whenever she chose to learn something new about different technologies that interested her, she had learned them faster than what she was used to, which she figured mean her intellegence was also improved, but she decided to not go and dig around that too much.
Throughout the two years, Mana met several people who she liked and enjoyed their company from time to time, but none who she had overly bonded. People still look at her a bit with an odd look due to her blue hair and the fact she looks like a 14 year old girl, even though that is not the case and she often manages to surprise people with her knowledge of different technologies. She had also learned about her Thunderclap ability, but decided to deem it too dangerous due to how uncontrollable it was. She kept in touch with her family and kept on living her new life as a Shifter in the Academy, hoping for the best for everyone.
Personality:
Mana is a nice person at heart and always enjoys talking to people, and it doesn't matter to her if she doesn't know them or now. She greatly likes talking about anything regarding any kind of technologies, and she doesn't care if she is knowledgable about it or not. She just wants to learn more about new technologies. When it comes to most other topics, she will do her best to stay in full attention, but it is possible that her mind will slip away if a certain topic is being dragged for what she will consider is too long.
Other than her being very friendly, Mana also has rather strong reactions to a couple of subjects, being her hair and her young appearance. Whenever anyone talks to her about her young appearance she will quickly become depressed, no matter how happy she had been prior. Her hair, on the other hand, will often make a bit of harmless tiny lightnings appear from her eyes, regardless of its a compliment to her hair or its a remark on it. She is aware that she is a bit too sensitive on both subjects and tries to avoid talking about either as much as she can.
She deeply enjoys either excersizing or spending time in her social group, because both give her a relaxed feeling, one could say an escape. However, since highschool, she also feels a bit of a need to spend time meeting new people and gaining new friends, because she wishes to have someone she could relay on that she can also talk to face to face, and not through any kind of technology.
Althought she does not wish to let others know, but she has a problem with unstable places. Whenever she feels that her body is in an unstable place, she will instantly either try to get off or find the first stable thing that she can, to ensure the feeling goes away as fast as she can. This is due to becoming stuck in a rollercoster when she was younger with her parents, and the rollercoster kept shaking a bit. The fear of unstable places goes as far as her own ability of flying, because she doesn't believe she can fly in a stable manne.
Other:
She will sing to herself whenever she believes she is completely alone. If someone catches her in the act, she will try and accuse the first thing she sees, and it is a quirk that she had for a long time now.
She dislikes flying due to her fear of unstable places, which is why she doesn't want to use that power as much as she can, even if it comes as a very natural thing to her while in her Shifter form. When asked why, she tries avoiding to answer in anyway possible, because she doesn't want to admit the truth.
