Name: Elysia
Age: 11
Background: Elysia was born to a travelling gypsy band that frequented the Talis River. Considering the religious nature of Talisport, when her family entered close to the city, they were captured. Most were tried and found guilty of various crimes, some true, most not. But she was only a baby at the time. Deemed too innocent to be charged with anything, and ordered to be used as an example of change, she was handed over to one of the youngest priests of the Church of Cashemar. He began raising her the best way he knew how, and with more freedoms than some of the elders or nuns would deem appropriate had they had their way. Elysia always had a fighting spirit though, and the priest felt it wasn’t disobedience, but just her nature, and it would be wrong to squash it.
Elysia did grow up within the church and within Talisport, but she has spent most of her childhood seeking excitement. Call it the gypsy in her, the overprotectiveness of her home, or a child’s curiosity, she finds she is always looking for that next challenge that could land her in trouble. Her powers made themselves known at the age of 8, when a storm thundered and poured over her home. She’d always been afraid of storms, but on this night, the fear bubbled up inside of her and she ran out into the midst of it, despite her father’s protests and calls. She yelled at the sky, the lightning, for scaring her and suddenly bolts began to direct to her up thrown hands. She did not burn however, but instead threw her hands towards the ground where the dirt and grass became scorched. Having no idea what had just happened, she ran back to her father, soaking wet and clinging to him. He had seen the incident though, through the rain, and knew she must learn to control her abilities.
The next day he sent her to the nuns to be indoctrinated and taught to control her magic. Shaping was placed as the forefront of needed skills, over gathering and sensing. Luckily, Elysia had a special knack for it anyway, a quick mind always eager to learn. Her main teacher was a nun called Kirona. The original mage who began teaching her, Tella, enjoyed punishing more than teaching, and Elysia began to turn into herself. Kirona noticed and offered to take the girl under her wing instead. Elysia began to flourish a bit more and learned much under her tutelage, though she still had punishments weekly for stealing from other students, or speaking out of turn constantly, or running away from the college and forgetting to come back before nightfall. She also would often sleep during lectures on religion, so she knows basics of their beliefs, but nothing substantial.
Kirona eventually felt Elysia would get more applicable knowledge and perhaps teaching she would better respond to at the Crystal Tower.
Personality: Elysia is, in general, bubbly, happy, and fun loving. She can be on the quiet side sometimes, especially when uncomfortable. She loves people, finding it hard to dislike anyone, and usually sees the best in others. Elysia has a hard time sitting still and focusing for long periods of time, her mind often running at 90 mph. She also has some short term memory loss, as she tends to retain a lot of information quickly, and forget things she doesn’t apply right away (for example, she might forget your name if she doesn’t see you for a couple days after you introduce yourself. But if she interacts with you daily, she’ll remember useless facts about you even, like what you had for breakfast two days ago). Elysia is a charming girl, used to getting her way with her innocent smile and big eyes. If she is disliked by anyone, it is usually someone that likes order and discipline, as she responds to neither.
Skills:
-Shaping (can control her magic into specific forms and directions with ease)
-Stealth (quiet and quick)
-Disarming (able to steal, set off traps, and charm people naturally)
-Basic knowledge in first aid, cooking, and repairing items
Element: Fire (specifically plasma/lightning)
