[OOC] Werewolves are Endangered?

Werewolves were once the most plentiful of the supernatural creatures. Their packs numbered in he hundreds all over the world, and they didn't even need to turn people - as their seasons of mating were all successful and puppy-filled. But then, the humans grew too scared. They grew too scared of the Were's growing numbers, of their incredible superhuman strength and abilities. Throughout hundreds of years the humans learned their weaknesses. wolfs-bane, silver, and others, and the hunt that was once a small nuisance to the Weres was an all out war. A war that they were loosing to a startling extent. By the modern era, it is estimated that over 80 percent of the original population has been wiped out. Its estimated that in California alone, the population of werewolves went from 12000 to 1200, with only about a dozen or so packs, and dwindling further with each passing year. Worse still, the stress of the hunting has led women to infertility, or worse - miscarriage. Some of the smaller packs are getting desperate, going into town to find those with what the deem "No good life" and taking them into the pack, biting them and turning them in a desperate attempt to increase numbers.

You are either a werewolf, a werewolf hunter, or a human to be turned.

Werewolf 101

Werewolves to /not/ live in the forest. They live in the city like everyone else. They own whole apartment buildings that house everyone of the pack (occasionally housing more than one pack for safety reasons)

Werewolves are more like the folklore ones in this case, but i'm being nice and making them Irish style, which means that they can control themselves when they turn on the full moon, and only go blood hungry as a last resort.

Two alphas per pack maximum: 1 male and 1 female - usually but not exclusively a couple

Omegas: The peacekeepers. They try to mitigate and mediate violence between other clans and are considered the best fighters and negotiators

Betas: Regular members of the pack.

They are not all powerful, but they are stronger than humans

Werewolf Hunter 101

Werewolf hunters use silver weapons and silver weapons only, and usually wear perfumes of wolfsbane

Most of them are born into it (family heritage) but some are pushed to it.

They are not as strong as werewolves, but they plan everything carefully.

For humans being turned:

You are only being turned if you are deemed "Worthy" of it.
That criteria is as follows: Little to no immediate family, unmarried, permanent resident, and not a total douchebag.

Mira – Human to be turned

Appearance: (see picture above) Mira stands an fairly average 5'5" with a thin but curved figure. She has no muscle, as she puts it, not even able to do a single push up if you asked her. She has tan skin, partly natural, partly from tanning purposefully. Her eyes are a brilliant green hue, and her hair dark at the roots before fading to blonde at the ends. Her hair reaches just below her bust, and is naturally wavy. She has freckles dotting the bridge of her nose and cheeks, but usually wears makeup which covers them. Her eyes are a little too far apart as are her eyebrows, giving her a more unique appearance. She has three tattoos, a butterfly on her hip, a peace sign on the inside of her right wrist, and black feathered wings covering a good portion of her back. She has two piercings in each ear but otherwise no others. She keeps her toenails looking nice but her fingernails are never painted and often chewed to the quick. She usually wears summery clothes until she absolutely has to wear something for the cold, hating being completely covered up.

Name: Mira Paxton

Age: 18

If human, what is your life like? Mira dislikes people, so she could never have a roommate. She enjoys partying and loud music, dares and rebelling though, so she’s always somewhere, doing something and getting into trouble. She hasn’t had a boyfriend in 2 years as she fears getting hurt more than anything, though beyond her wall she is still a sweet affection girl. It’s just buried deep. So deep no one cares to find out so she goes home at night, drinks til she passes out, and then does the day again. That’s if she ends up at her own place anyway.

History: Mira grew up with her mother only for the first few years of her life, until she remarried when Mira was 4 to a man who had a son. Mira was a rebellious and difficult child after that, acting out in hopes of getting attention. She never did particularly well in school, though she displayed plenty of intelligence when she had to. After everyone kept telling her she needed to do better in school, they were disappointed in who she was, she could be so much better than she was, look at all these other little girls who were behaving 'right', she gave up. She decided she hated those older than her who got to decide if she was smart enough, well behaved enough, or anything else. She withdrew and by age 12 got involved in drugs. By 13, she was an addict. Her parents sent her to a rehab facility for teens and she returned at age 14, clean. But, by age 15, she'd picked up drinking again. However, they noticed drinking actually made her less trouble for them. She was happier in general, she screamed and cried and threw things less. She made more friends and kept C's. So they let her have her vice. She still had rages though sometimes, screaming and hitting anything near her, resulting in scars on her body she has no idea how they got there. They kicked her out as an 18th birthday present, and she is currently living alone in an apartment. She’s a bartender, where she is fun loving and happy, but she does not get close to anyone. She likes to keep a wall between her and everyone else, and her mood when she’s not happy helps do that pretty well. (There are many secrets and details I left out as to why Mira is the way she is, but I would rather reveal those within the IC if that's okay).

Background: Following his parents' deaths in his hometown of Eugene, Oregon as a result of a car crash, Andrew escaped with his younger brother to Canada in an attempt to avoid going into the custody of their crazed aunt, acting as a sort of surrogate father to his sibling throughout much of their journey by avoiding both trouble and going astray. Once the duo had finished high school under the supervision of a foster family, they parted ways, with Andrew returning to Oregon and enlisting as a police officer for Portland while his brother moved to Washington, choosing instead a life of crime.

Upon hearing of his brother's drug abuse and subsequent antics up in Seattle, Andrew decided to leave Portland after a mere six weeks and take up a job where he could supervise his kin, eventually becoming sheriff of King County and arresting his sibling multiple times over the next few months, only to bail him out every single time. One morning, while on patrol, Andrew meet his brother once again, only to discover his patrol car had been vandalized, courtesy of his kin. However, just as Andrew prepared to scold his brother for having to arrest him once again, a drive-by shooting targeting Andrew occurred, hitting his brother instead. Andrew promptly fell into depression, moving back to Eugene to live in his parents' former home, avoiding all human contact as much as he could. That was, until he encountered a werewolf.

Disguised as a postal worker, the aforementioned werewolf had been scouting the area for potential candidates for weeks, eventually happening across Andrew in mid-December of last year. Once he had found his contender, so to speak, he arrived a dawn, carrying a pile of fake letters. Once Andrew had opened the door, he was tackled, cursed with lycanthropy, and brought to a small werewolf community in a California apartment complex in a makeshift postal van, where it was decided he would be a suitable Omega. He's been acting as an Omega of that pack ever since.

Gerret Terakk (WIP: Will be done ASAP)

Name: Gerret Terakk

Age: 36

Appearance (When not on hunt): Garret stands around 6'0'' to 6'2'', with a lean, muscular build. His dark brown hair is a short length, coming about an inch to two inches in length, but is well kept. His light complexion is contrasted by his steel grey eyes, which have a tendency to dart and flit from person to person, from corner to corner, as if he was perpetually looking for something. Pale scars trace their way across a good portion of his body, some small (like the one that begins at his left nostril to end at his chin), some large (like the short one on the left of his neck, the ones on his left arm, and most of his torso), but none can match his left hand. A good portion of the hand is missing leaving the index, middle, and half of the ring finger. This is usually covered with a bandage or glove, sometimes it is accompanied by a sling if he wants to avoid questions. His clothing is nothing to get excited over, loose fit jeans, comfortable shoes, simple shirts, and a grey zip up hooded sweatshirt under a thicker black jacket (both of which are usually unzipped). Finally a slight beard has begun to grow in, whether it is a response to cold weather or simply he doesn't care enough to shave it has yet to be decided (even by himself)

Appearance (When on hunt): Clothed in a dark, hooded cloak, half facemask and dark leather armor, Garret certainly looks the part of a hunter of old. He carries with him a black, collapsible, high power recurve bow, multiple silver hunting knives and a silver Karambit. His quiver is attached to the small of his back, in an easy draw position. Within it are contained two types of arrow, the first of which are your standard silvered broadhead arrows with a dark wood shaft, and the second kind, of which only a maximum of five are in the quiver at a time, they are a silvered hollow bodkin tip filled with a potent extract of Wolfs-bane and a dark wood shaft. His left hand is covered in a special silver gauntlet like device that has the appearance of a snarling wolf head. The device beings a couple inches behind his wrist and goes to where his ring finger's middle joint should be, and never rises more than inch in thickness. The mouth of the snarling head can open and close , allowing him to grip things (like his bow or branches) with it, when the mouth is open it also makes and effective hand to hand weapon.

Human, werewolf, or hunter?: Hunter

If hunter: Born into it.
To say that Garret's family has been hunters a long time is an understatement, they have been hunting for near as far back as their family records go. His family has also been considered firebrands for many years by the hunter communities at large, due to their insistence to keep to the old hunting methods and old hunting Philosophies. But as much as they are firebrands, none can question their effectiveness. Since he was a small child Garret has also been trained in how to kill, stalk, track, and fight. All in the old ways like his predecessors. This is also how his received his armor and weapons, all faithful (and updated) copies of the old hunter's equipment. Some whispers among the hunters speculate this is due to Lycan blood far back in the Terakk family, though none would ever openly speak to the family on this.

Background: Born into the Terakk family, Garret's future was already fated to be awash with blood. It is said that children of the Terakk only have a few years of innocence, from the moment they are born to the moment they can grip a knife and hold a bow, and for the new of the Terakk this has never been more true. As he was taught his knack for the hunt became apparent, he was efficient and effective. It was this effectiveness and his adherence to the old code that earned him the moniker of "The reluctant executioner" from the other hunters, this nickname becoming known even to the Lycans that he hunted.

But names cannot protect a man from the claws and teeth of wolves.

No-one truly knows how he got his hand mangled, some speculate it was a hunt gone wrong, others that it was a fair fight, some even speculate it was for a different reason entirely. Wherever the truth, Garret has learned to live with his hand, turning it into a strength over a draw back.

Stíofán ó Faoláin (Werewolf)

Name: Stíofán ó Faoláin (English: Stephen Whelan)

Age: 28

Appearance:
Stephen stands at 6 foot 7 inches (200.66cm), and has medium length, ginger hair. He also has a ginger beard, which he keeps at a medium length. He has pale skin, and is quite muscular. On his left arm he was a tattoo sleeve that he got whilst travelling. The sleeve has a shamrock on it, underneath saying the phrase "Níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin", written in a green, Celtic, font. There are also tattoos of: a catholic cross, another quote saying "Only God can judge me", a stem, that splits into two large, wilted, back roses, and a smaller, similarly black and wilted rose, a tattoo of the state of California next to the Republic of Ireland, a hand holding an arrow, and the Irish flag, with the edges dissolving into the skin. His musculature is slightly defined. He also has a scar along his right upper arm from when he was attacked.

Background:
Stephen grew up in Ireland, speaking Irish as a first language, with English as a second. When he was 21, he moved away to see the world, and then settled down with a friend in California when his family died in a car crash when he was 23. Being Irish, this was not perfect for him, and he was thinking of moving back to Ireland, but was attacked when he went out one night in the dark by a werewolf at the age of 25. Two months later, his friend who he lived then said that he was moving cross country, and Stephen moved into the apartments with the other werewolves. Since joining the pack, Stíofán has always had the feeling that Carlson didn't like him.

Name: Carlson Jakes

Background: Carlson was born a werewolf in Tennesee to two betas at a complex in Memphis. His parents saw that the alpha of their pack was ineffective (as they were stubborn and unable to accept change), so the family severed their ties to the pack, and left for California, where they knew of a sizable pack near San Francisco. They got to California, and were eagerly accepted into the pack. As Carlson grew, the alpha of the pack saw his potential and had him trained as an Omega, which he had practically perfected by the age of twenty. But on a hunt during the full moon, the alpha of the pack was gravely injured by hunters, and before the entire pack, he declared Carlson the new alpha, shocking everyone. He's been at the job for almost 6 years now, and has been doing a pretty good job, having the highest pack survival rate in California. Carlson has shown himself to be resourceful, smart, and a perfect match for alpha, despite his age. He is also very accepting and understands that if the werewolf population is to recover even slightly, turning people is necessary. He's a kind person who just wants the best for his people, and no one truly understands how far he is willing to go.

If werewolf: Beta for James, he gave up fighting for the most part. Beta for Kat because she feels she has to stay back and watch over her brother... both have the potential for Omega.

Background:
Katherine and James were born werewolves but their parents had left their pack in an attempt to separate themselves from others of thier kind and lead a more human life in the hopes of protecting thier children from hunters. This was a choice usually frowned upon as every werewolf was needed both for protection and procreation. Despite the occassional pack insistance, the Vitaes were successful in hiding from the hunters for years. No one knew what they were and they liked it that way and whenever someone got too close to their secret they moved... It seemed like everything would be fine, but they were wrong. For Kat, shifting was as easy as breathing and controlling her animal instincts was too and maybe that had something to do with her constant involvement in sports and athletics and her focus on the things she wanted. However, for James it was different. From the time he'd been young he'd been in trouble... He got into fights, he broke the rules, he pushed the limits and it reflected when he shifted... He became far less predictable, far less in control of himself, and it took Kat to reign him in and keep him from giving in to the animal just for fun... just to see what it would feel like. Then, James made a mistake. He'd gotten into a local underground fight group and though it usually wasn't a problem he'd decided to take a match a little close to the full moon. His temper flared and he'd almost shifted in the middle of the match, Kat had had to drag him out but it was too late. There had been hunters in the building and they followed Kat and James home... That full moon they were attacked while on their run and though Kat and James survived their parents weren't so lucky. James nearly died too, he'd taken a silver arrow to the chest and it had been tipped with wolf's bane... Kat barely managed to keep him alive and since then he hasn't been able to shift without severe pain. For Kat losing her ability to shift would have been alright but for James it has been nearly unbearable... It has changed him a lot, taken him down a darker path and Kat worries about what that might mean for them both. It was her idea to seek out a pack in hopes that being around others of their kind might help James cope. It's still a bit of a problem though as neither Kat nor James enjoy taking orders and having been raised outside of the pack means they don't really have the respect for the heirarchy that they probably should...

If human, what is your life like? Parents died in a horrific accident. Suffers from a form of PTSD and irrational fears of forests (which kind of sucks for her but oh well). She works as a fashion model and photography model (working nights at bars). Its a lonely existence, but at least its a living

Background: As said above, her parents died in a horrific "accident" (She calls it that because she doesn't want people to ask) that led to an irrational fear of forests and forested places- which is why she lives in the heart of the city right near the werewolf apartment building. She works at a bar down the street that she doesn't know is frequented by the Weres, and Carlson has been contemplating sending someone to scope her out- as her demanding presence and kind nature would make her a great omega. For now though, she works as a model by day and bartender by night

Name: Chung-Ho (Chance) Moon
Age: 19

Human, werewolf, or hunter? Human

If human, what is your life like? Besides being occupied with boring lessons and exhausting classes, Chung-Ho barely has a life. His days are spent in one class after the other, one foot in front of the next without any real pleasure being derived from any of it. Though wealthy and polished on the outside, on the inside he is lonely. Due to his upbringing and most recent let down, he finds solace in being alone, preferring, and ordering others away if they try to get too close or overstay their welcome. Outwardly, his attempts at being social can be quite awkward and somewhat cold.

Background: Born into wealth, Chung-Ho was always being told that his life was of importance, that he would one day be above a lot of people and that they would look up to him for leadership. The Moon group is a long reigning political power in South Korea and has been for several long generations. He had grown accustomed to watching his father fill his days with paperwork during his childhood and watching his mother starve from lack of affection. In the meantime he was being forced-fed meager lessons, the skeleton for his eventual inheritance.

When he turned eight, it was obvious that the boy was disinterested in the family business; the "Freedom Curse" is what the family had moniker the affliction. Around the same time his mother became sickly and was put on immediate bed rest, while it was recommended that she do so at a hospital, she was adamant about being at the manor. Even through all of this, his father had still been dedicated to his work. Seeing his mother suffer convinced Chung-Ho to make himself a prisoner to his duties, so he invested his entirety into studying.

By the age of sixteen, both his mother and father had died, leaving him the heir to the political power. However, his eldest sister sent him away to America, claiming that it was for the best if he studied intensely for his position. While away, she would govern the Moon group and all of its royalties. This had not escaped Chung-Ho, but he honestly felt numb to the whole situation. For three years he studied in America, mastering the English language and its culture. He has decided to take the English name Chance, finding some fondness for its definition. He's currently attending a renowned, private college.
