It was a beautiful day in DenTech City. The kind of day that a person would just wanna spend hanging out either outside, or just hanging out with friends doing whatever it is their mind could think of. Unfortunately, it was Monday. Not only was it Monday, it was most definitely a school day. However, despite this fact Hiro was soundly sleeping in his bed. Xero had yet to make a move, but that was because he was teaching Hiro a lesson. Don't go back to sleep when the alarm goes off. And as the seconds turned to minute the alarm rang again. "Hm?" Hiro's eyes opened slowly just a bit before shooting open as the numbers on his alarm clock came into view. "Wha?! Xero!!" He yelped as he shot out of his bed and began to strip out of his pajamas and moved into the bathroom where he managed to quickly bathe, brush his teeth and make himself more presentable. "Yes Hiro?" Xero questioned his owner in a rather nonchalant manner as he heard him emerge from the bathroom. "Why didn't you get me up?! I'm so gonna be late now... And you... you..." With each word he spoke a new layer of clothing was added to his body. First underwear. Than shirt. It was moving smoothly until he fell. He landed with a loud thump, but he had no time to deal with the bit of pain. He got the pants on and was back up to get socks. "You did get up. And then you went back to sleep. Next time stay up. I mean i can't shake you awake or anything." Xero answered. It was a logical answer. It was also true. "Gah... Fine fine..." Hiro submitted taking his Navi's words into account. His jeans were on and and now so were his socks and sneakers. The jeans were average blue jeans, the sneakers a solid black with white trim and a bit of blue accenting it here and there. The shirt, didn't really matter as there was now a Blue zip up jacket without a hood (See picture) over it with whiteish-grey vertical stripes running down the outer part of each arm. The metal pieces on his face were there as always. He rarely took them off, save to bathe, and his glasses were now on. "Alright... What am I forgetting?" He asked as he grabbed his book bag. "Headphones." Xero answered calmly. "Right thanks." Hiro chuckled as he grabbed them, put them on and ran out. Wireless and connected to his PET along with wifi, and pretty much anything he could, including the radio. His own design, with help from his father. "Now... Off to school!" He cheered as he ran out. He might actually make it. At least, that's what he thought when he got to the door downstairs. That was when he realized. "3... 2..." Xero sighed as the bedroom door opened and Hiro rushed in. "Geez Xero." Hiro said as he grabbed the Link PET EX housing his Network navigator Xero.EXE. "Just hurry before you're late." Xero laughed as Hiro was soon out of the house and on his way to school. "By the way, did you finish that thing for Jake?" Xero asked as Hiro moved rather quickly. "Yeah. He's gonna be so surprised. I mean i told him it would take like a month or two and I got it done in a few days." The young genius laughed as he continued onward. "Well, you did get pretty into it. Let's just hope he and Blade like it." Xero responded calmly.

Jake Elwood was already at the school, sitting on a bench just outside the front doors and surfing the NET with his NET Navi, Blade.EXE. The two of them had been together for a number of years, since he was about eight, and the two were quite the accomplished pair of virus busters, having even been asked by the teachers to help take care of any viral trouble they might have, and taking out the occasional heal navi. Tournaments and challenges were common too. However, today wasn't a day for virus busting, and they weren't surfing the NET for the fun of it. They were waiting for Hiro Alexander, Jake's best friend and rival, and his Navi Xero.EXE, Blade's battle partner and sparring partner. While they waited, they watched the news and also made conversation, discussing what was being talked about on the news. "In other news, the research lab where the EM technology is being researched has recieved further security after an attempt by NET terrorists earlier in the week attempted to force entry both from the NET and at the doors. Officials overseeing the project made no comment on the event." Jake was worried, because his dad worked at the same facility and Jake hadn't heard from his dad since the incident. Blade appeared on his shoulder. "Your father is fine, Jake. If there was a danger to him or if he was hurt, the research head would have contacted you and your mother." Jake just nodded, rewinding back to the brief story on the EM research facility and watching all the security guards, both Navi and human, watching for trouble. "I hope you're right..."

Hiro had gotten to the school fairly quickly. "Right on time!" He called out cheerfully as he approached Jake, his friend and rival. Xero sighed as he shook his head awaiting his partner to cool down. "Good seeing you Blade." He said calmly with a small smile.

Blade nodded to Xero. "A pleasure to see you as well, Xero." Jake looked up at Hiro's voice and smiled a little, waving. "Hey, good to see you could make it on time for a change." Standing up from the bench, he stretches. "So, what has you rushing here besides almost being late again? You'd think the devil himself was chasing you with how fast you were going."

Hiro grinned sliding his own PET into it's protective case with was strapped to his waist before snatching away his friends. "Secret!" He shouted before running off into the school. "Blade. After I begin this, I need you to go into temporary sleep mode and let it be a surprise for Jake." He said with a smiled as he discreetly slid a special battle chip like object into the port. After that Blade would likely feel a change. Something like that of a power boost in a video game though much better. With this change Blade and Xero would be on even playing ground. Their operators were and so were their skills, but this program change would make every aspect of their battling even, so to speak. "I hope you like it by the way. I worked hard on this for you guys." Hiro chuckled as he spoke quietly to Blade whilst heading towards the classroom far ahead of the true devil who'd likely be chasing him.

Blade complied and went into sleep mode while Hiro did his work, making an educated guess at what it was he was doing. When he booted back up, he could feel the new programming and smiled, nodding at Hiro's request. "I will keep it secret until necessary." Jake's voice could be heard rapidly catching up and Blade chuckled. "I suggest running faster, Hiro. Jake's a little upset that you grabbed me and ran."

Hiro grinned and finally reached the classroom. He darted in and quickly placed Jake's PET onhis desk and quickly went to his own seat. "Remember Blade. Shhhh." He instructed before Jake could enter and catch him.

Jake wasn't far behind Hiro, calling for him to slow down and give back his PET. When he saw Blade on his desk and Hiro sitting at his own desk and acting like nothing happened. Taking his seat, Jake sighed. "You could have at least asked first..." Picking up his PET, he puts it back on his wrist and sits back, opening the NET back up and surfing different sites. "And what was that about secret stuff?"

"Yeah, but it wouldn't have been as much fun right?" Hiro asked with a small laugh before turning to face Jake. "Oh and you'll see next time you battle." He added as he relax and started up the school comp on his desk. A hologram appeared and he logged on. "Nice." He said as he booted up the homework. "You did it right?" He asked as he pointed to the work.

"Right..." Logging into the school computer, he pulls up his own completed homework. "Between my mom threatening to take Blade away and Blade threatening to wipe my music library, how could I NOT get it done?" He chuckles and leans back. "Think we'll have any fun viruses in virus busting class today?"

At the mention of the tournament, Jake grinned huge. "Oh yeah, the tag tourney! Rumor has us winning it, did ya hear?" Blade sighed at the sudden perking up that Jake had. Talking bout NET battles like that always got him excited, took his mind off of his worries. It was why Blade didn't interrupt.

Hiro chuckled before glancing back at his screen. "Don't get so cocky. I hear there'll be some seriously steep competition. Winners get a chance to go tour the new lab making the EM tech. So there are a lot of battlers interested." He said cheerfully. "So we're gonna need to be on top of our game."

Jake perked up at the mention of the tour. "I could see my dad sooner? Hell, you can bet we'll be on top of our game tomorrow, right Blade?" His hologram appeared on Jake's shoulder, Blade nodded. "Indeed. Perhaps Jake will be less worried about his father if he sees him."

"Good, then we'll be at the lab before you know it." Hiro said before class started. He who pretty much knew this stuff back and forth discreetly began to play an online game. "You really..." Xero began but stopped when Hiro shushed him. "And don't worry Jake. Even if something happened, I'm sure you're dad is alright." Hiro whispered still focused on the game. "He's a tough dude after all. I mean he had the guts to put up with you." Hiro tried lightening Jake's mood further with a small joke.

Jake chuckled at Hiro's joke. "Nah, I'm not that hard to put up with. I'm sure his boss is the real tough nut, though dad once told me that his job makes the guy a bit wavey." He really laughed at his own joke, doing the math problems for the class without any problem.

Class went by fairly quickly. Hiro had somehow finished the work and won a few online games. "So next class right?" He asked Jake as he logged out.

"Sounds like it." Jake logged out as well, watching their classmates all head out into the hall. "Man, I can't wait to get out of this place. It's real old doing the same thing day in and day out."

"Try already knowing what you're being taught." Hiro said calmly as he left the class with Jake. The rest of the day went smoothly. A boring virus busting class, and even more boring basic classes. "Wanna go to the chip shop? I think they should have gotten a new shipment of battle chips today."

Jake shrugs, going through his folder and reviewing his extra chips. "Might as well. Wonder if they have any new Giga chips in. I've been meaning to grab a couple of extra step swords when they get it in."
