She's immortal, so death is only an inconvenience. Unless his sword can cut through 'I cannot permanently die' magic.

Given how it functions, even that wouldn't work.

Though I can think of half a dozen ways to defeat her without a war of attrition, no problem. XD

More or less, she'd just be an obstacle if things did go wrong again, hopefully giving the NPC time to stop the attempted murder. Which hopefully they wouldn't. If not, Guts actually gets to interact with someone that has as much clue of what's going on as he does.

Do you think cutting Mokou in half counts as murder or assault?

So the solution to an uneducated traumatized medieval guy who hates monsters attacking a magic recruiter for an organization he doesn't know about, is to send in an immortal bullet hell boss just in case he becomes aggressive again because the next recruiter did the exact same thing wrong?

I see. Well, still know nothing about Touhou, though it's ironic since I got involved in a nation crossover game on another site with a faction from the series.

Actually the Dragonslayer is being set up in the manga specifically to slay dark immortal gods.

Well, given that things are more being revised so that didn't happen, it's more 'so I have somewhere to put the character', with the benefit of ALSO covering the worst case scenario.

Is it actually at that point yet though, or still in the 'setting up' phase? I haven't read the manga.

The short answer is "Probably".

Guts' most recent kill in the story was the Sea God, so it's safe to assume the Dragonslayer is at or very close to anti-deity status at this point. Additionally, every kill on a magic being makes it stronger, so hypothetically he can kill anything after he kills enough things.

I think that sending in another magic person after establishing Guts' distrust of magic is not a step away from the worst case scenario.

Well, you don't know she's magic until either: A) later on, or B) worst case scenario.

Okay, I've noticed some people seem to think I was planning this with Rain or something.

I wasn't, I wasn't even sure it was a good idea but it's the only place that's not very crowded for a new character to show up at.

Whatever I do with the NPC(still working on that) is going to be completely independent of if Rain decides to have Mokou show up anywhere in particular.

I'm fairly certain Rain's reasoning was that Mokou can't die so even if things go south in their interaction any violence would probably end comically rather then death, because... yeah Mokou can't die.

I would still not recommend placing Mokou in the situation with Guts. Knowing Mokou, anything she does is liable to worsen the situation and sour any interaction between Guts and the UMMA.

Eh, I disagree. Especially if the first encounter never happened and we get a tech NPC instead.

There's a saying that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

The only way I could see Mokou helping the situation is if it gets to the worst possible point and Guts needs to be incapacitated. Beyond that, I'd wager a guess that someone using super-tech would be seen as a sorcerer by anyone with only a medieval level of technological knowledge. Clarke's Third Law is very much in effect for primitive peoples.

Well, if they're not obviously a magic user and don't start with saying they're following him, that's most of the way to getting a proper explanation, isn't it?

Simply not making it worse and getting to introduce the character to the RP is achievable.

I'm not quite sure if Guts would be able to tell the difference between, say, a laser rifle and a funny-shaped magic wand. In fact, I'm not quite sure why any characters that come from pre-industrial societies are taking these seemingly-impossible marvels of human technology as "oh, it's just technology and not magical at all".

So, no mages, and no one using advanced technology, like the kind you'd need to find Guts in the first place. Without knowing about his paranoia and predisposition towards murder.

Kinda limits the options, doesn't it?

I'm not actually sure we have many characters from pre-industrial societies who haven't already been around in the multiverse for a while, so I'm fairly sure that would explain it.

It limits the options to people who don't flaunt their magic or technology, really.

So... tech and NOT obviously bedecked in random items?
