** Personality & History:**
*The Legend Begins*
Gordon was born on April 3, 1952 to a lower income family in Chicago. From a very early age James always had a greater sense of right taking it upon himself to stop bullies that picked on the smaller kids in his neighborhood. For as long as anyone can remember James had always wanted to be one of two things; a soldier and cop, so it came as no surprise that when Vietnam broke out, James Gordon was the first one in line to sign up.
*War is Hell*
Boot camp was nothing short of a cake-walk for Gordon, his no nonsense disciplined style of living quickly drove him to the top of his class. As he was preparing himself to ship out command approached him to join the Rangers and gave him an officer’s title. Gordon spent five years going in and out of the jungles fighting the enemy that couldn’t be seen, so it came as no surprise that war began taking its toll on the young man. In the last six months of his last tour, the last “nail in the coffin” was a mild mutiny where the men under his command were going to needlessly slaughter innocent women and children, to which Gordon answered by wounding the men in question. After being questioned by the higher ups, it was determined that Gordon acted justly in his position and given an honorable discharge and sent back to Chicago a war hero. This would be the first of many incidents that would haunt him.
*New Kid in Town*
After returning to Chicago, having no real skills other than that of a solider, Gordon went and joined the Chicago PD’s training program and was quickly put on as a beat cop. It wasn’t long before Gordon’s sense of right and wrong was tested once again as he discovered dirty cops working in his beat. After a long and grueling struggle which put him and his new wife Barbra in danger many times, Gordon finally succeeded in bringing down the several corrupt members of the government including two of his fellow officers and the mayor. After his subsequent leaving of the CPD, he received a call from Commissioner Loeb inviting him to become a detective for the Gotham City Police Department. Gordon spent the next few years working several cases, including the murder of Martha Wayne which ended in his capture of Joe Chill. Once again corruption reared its head against Gordon as the blatant control of everything in the government by the mob, particularly the Falcone and Maroni families. Unable to once again go through another incident like Chicago Barbra left Gordon and taking both of their children with her. After exposing Loeb and shooting two of his fellow officers in the process, Gordon had worked his way into being Commissioner of the GCPD, a title which he did not want but took for the simple fact that if he was in charge he could at least attempt to have some order and justice within the Department.
*Old Dog, Old Tricks*
Over the years as Commissioner, including the rise of Batman and his family, Gordon has fought tirelessly to bring law and order to the streets of Gotham in the only way that would bring about real change. While he believed in what the Caped Crusader was doing, it never really set right with him that a man would take things into his own hands and put himself above the law. No matter his own personal feelings about him, Gordon still had no qualms about turning on that signal every time that he needed a little “outside” assistance on certain cases. Gordon continues to work with the mind of a beat cop, walking through every crime scene with eagle eyes looking for anything that could lead to a break in the case.
**Story Arc:**
*The Last Good Man of Gotham*
The years have begun to wear down the Commissioner. The ghosts of his pasts, from his daughter forced into a wheelchair to constantly fighting the city itself, Gordon wonders if his decisions have done more harm than good. Regardless, Gordon remains the last line of defense between order and chaos in Gotham and as such he will not let anything stand in the way of this duty.
