[OOC] Heroes of Beacon - the Next Chapter

Personally I feel like I could do a lot better. Make Skyra more loveable, but also more... well, more a real person. But I don't know why I think I wasn't successful so far. Maybe it's just the fact that English is not my native language. Maybe that. Maybe just my personal inability to express this.

Name: Winter LeBlanc

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Race: Faunus (Snowy Owl)

Weapon: Frostbite is a steel Katana imbued with ice dust. Frostbite is an odd weapon as it is weighted terribly and typically would be considered unusable by most competent swordsmen. However, because of Winter's semblance she is able to correct it's weighting and make use of it. She is able to use the dust inside of the Katana in a variety of ways, for example stabbing the ground she can create an igloo-like dome in for protection. She is also able to create ice mid slash and by doing so launch chunks of ice at her opponents with deadly speeds.

Frostbite

Specialty: Winter primarily plays an assassin role in fights as she has the ability to fly with her wings. This allows her to be very agile and boast incredible mobility on tougher landscapes for her allies. Her wings are powerful enough to easily carry her through the air at speeds reaching just above her maximum sprinting speed on land. With strain on Winter, she could fly while carrying someone roughly her own size for approximately ten minutes at about half her normal speed.

Winter’s mother and father are both professional duelists with a sword. Thusly from a young age she received some of the best available tutelage since near the age she could walk. She has become quite adept at not only using her wings to her advantage but has also learned ho
Semblance: The Semblance of Gravity. Winter’s semblance is the true reason she is able to fly as fast and for as long as she can, seemingly without flapping her wings nearly as much as she should have to. She can control her own personal gravity and the gravity of those she has eyesight of or physical contact with. The power of Winter’s semblance relies on a few variables, however.

Firstly Winter is only able to manipulate the gravity of one area at a time. This means that if she is flying, she wouldn’t be able to manipulate the gravity of any of her allies or enemies without breaking her concentration and manually flying (which is much more difficult).

Secondly Winter’s manipulation of gravity is stronger the closer she is to her target. If she has physical contact with someone she is easily able to make them weigh a ton or a single pound. However without physical contact she finds it very difficult to increase the weight of something by more than one hundred pounds, maximum. This means that if an enemy is able to withstand an extra one hundred pounds, her semblance wouldn’t do more than slow him or her down.

Thirdly Winter’s manipulation of gravity, while causing very little strain on her, requires concentration. If Winter is panicked for whatever reason, her abilities effectiveness would be halved if not worse. While she is a rather composed individual when she does lose composure her semblance suffers greatly.

Personality: Winter is very different when placed in comparison to most Faunus. She is from a wealthy and well respected family in Haven and has been brought up to have an air of excellence about her. She doesn’t look down on others, but she finds great passion and happiness in expenses and fine dining. Winter doesn’t lack any self-confidence and instead prides herself as a Faunus, often flaunting her wings to others. Among other things, such as fashion, fine dining and sword fighting, Winter finds herself most excited when she doesn’t know how something will play out; this has caused her to become somewhat rash and willing to take risks. She was raised to use her power and wealth to help those who are excellent find their place in this world. Thusly it is her dream to one day teach at Beacon so that she may find youth that seem excellent and help them become something grander than what they may’ve accomplished on their own. While Winter typically has either a kind disposition or a very serious one she has been known to make puns from time to time, she enjoys getting a laugh out of her teammates. She also has been known to force fashion advice on her friends and teammates.

Well you do of course have those static characters in any novel... like Pop now that I think of it but they're usually side characters or antagonists. Like Javert from Les Miserables who committed suicide when he compromised his initial morals. I see your point though, those characters in novels that refuse to change even when faced with over whelming evidence that they should generally become those characters that you start swearing at to get a grip half way through the story. They're also never main characters.

I'm not blaming either you or PoS in this case because with both Shiro and Sapphire it wasn't flat-out acceptance or total opposition in either case, but I'm saying in general: a character having no opinions is about as uninteresting as a character having totally unchangeable opinions, though in the latter case something is written while in the former nothing is.

Yeah, I struggle with painting a detailed enough scene or trying to get certain character emotions across. I think I can say that's because English isn't technically my first language also, so I feel your pain there.

I may have mentioned it before, but in all my characters I sprinkle a bit of my real life experiences and personality into their creation. Shiro's reversal on the mission is similar to what I do in real life. Say I believe in this one thing, really strongly. Like, for instance say I hate Nicki Minaj and don't believe she's a good person. But then, evidence is brought to light and shows me the complete opposite of what I believe, showing me that I was wrong in my beliefs. Because I like to think of myself as open-minded and accepting of new information that changes the way I perceive things, I come to like Nicki Minaj and like her as a person. May not still be a fan of some of her music, but my opinion has been forever changed. If something new was to come to light showing me that she's a horrible person, my opinions may change again.

Shiro is like that, in a sense. He's also young, nearly all the characters are young. 16-17+ years of age, starting out in what's essentially High School. They aren't all going to be mature, they're all going to be different levels of mature. Realizing this, I wrote Shiro along those lines. He's naive, he feels strongly about some things but if he finds himself mistaken he's opinion will change at the drop of the hat. Of course, this will cause problems as he will be conflicted about how to proceed. That awkward emotional state many of us experience or are going through now, where we're unsure of ourselves as people and don't know how to figure ourselves out just yet. But, that's okay, because that takes time and experiencing more as they go on through life.

Shiro is prepped to be like that. Sure, he may be an absolute idiot and have his own fair share of personal and mental problems, but he's supposed to be like that because that's how I wanted to write him. To prepare him to change and mature the longer we stick around in this game, to develop his character into something better and different in the future.

Plus, like Prince, I enjoy the dynamic between Shiro and Sapphire and it's been shown that others enjoy it too. I like causing a bit of hell and seeing what comes out of it and I've been meaning for Shiro to clash with Sapphire for some time now, if not in the future. Like me, Shiro isn't one to have bad blood linger in the air around him. In real life, I usually confront problems and issues that arise. Be it from a situation or from people I don't completely agree with. Sometimes, it works out and I make some cool new friends. Other times, well, all I'm left with is a scar and someone that I don't like and they don't like me. But, we keep our distance.

Well they're not totally unchangeable positions in Sapphire's case. The faunus thing she believes pretty strongly in because she grew up with a father who hated faunus and doesn't doubt a large number of human would want all faunus gone. Also she has a rather alarming inability to admit when she was wrong if it proven to her, she also almost never apologizes. I'm not saying that's a good thing but it's true.

Every Thursday in the Marine Corps, Marines who resided in the military barracks are by order to clean. Everything.

If you weren't a slob and so was your roommate, Field Days were easy for you, especially if your overseeing NCO or SNCO was chill. If either you or your roommates were a slob, or anyone on the same fucking DECK as you were a slob and fails an inspection, well get ready to waste your fucking weekend getting the entire building and surrounding areas white-glove inspection ready.

It was a pain in the ass being a junior enlisted Marine. My life improved dramatically whenever I got promoted to Corporal and moved out of the barracks as a result of marrying my beloved wife. Still though, fucking shitty memories and shitty days were had during 'Field Days'.
