Statistically proven is, that the USA has a worse standard of living than the old communist GDR, just saying xD

And the GDR was bankrupt all the time.

Also... the US national anthem is truly not the original, or truest national anthem. That honour belongs to Het Wilhelmus from 1568-1572, the oldest national anthem in the world.
Also... the melody of the star spangled banner was a british pub song...

(Oh, I love this :D)

There's actually a substantial movement in certain American cities to ban the American flag, chiefly because as a statement of national solidarity and pride, it is offensive to foreigners.

I question the sanity of people sometimes.

Try coming to England. That won't make you question sanity, that'll convince you that it is an arcadic, and outdated idea.

Not for long, though. Soon China will become a lot more relevant and even more powerful economically than the US. Get used to it and celebrate this 4th of July as if it was the last one. Who knows if you'll still have the money to do so next year ;P

The "We Americans are better than anybody else" is something, I'm honestly pretty sick of. I mean, it remembers me a lot of history class. particularly German history from 1933-1945. *wink wink*

The current administration certainly isn't helping the lack of money. The Affordable Care Act means we're spending far more money (on entitlements) than we're taking in. If people continue to be blind to the principle of spending less than we earn, there's a very real chance that we'll continue to fall economically. Because most of the debts are in-country, however, I doubt China is going to just buy us out.

Believing that Americans are better than everyone else isn't patriotism. It's egotism. Pride in a country's accomplishments is. Like it or hate it, the world would be a very different place without America.

Affordable care is a human right. And the European countries all have very good health care and that's certainly not having a big impact on economy.
One good step would be... get rid of a good portion of the massive military. It's absolutely insane how much money the US spends on military...

USA was founded on theft and murder. And it's not gone far from it's roots in that time.

Anything that costs money is not a right, it is a commodity. I don't know what stats you've been looking at, but the economies of European countries right now are downright awful. Only Germany and Britain are even industrial nations anymore. Just look how well socialized medicine is working for Greece at the moment.

The military in the US employs millions of people. Cut it off, and you've got even more people stuffed into a poor job market. Plus, there's the whole war going on right now against an extremist group that wants to kill us for our basic ideals of freedom.

Kaben, I suppose you are right--fighting to break free from a position beneath the foot of tyrannical colonial rule involved murder, and taking away land and resources from a cross-country British empire to establish an independent nation was theft. If you're going to sling insults and generalizations rather than actually contribute to a debate, then you may be silent.

I don't think I'm better than anyone as an American.

Just more awesome. Also, can we steer the conversation away from the U.S. miltary? It's a touchy subject for me and I really don't want to get into some political debate on today of all days.

A lot of people seem to think that, even if China does advance faster than the USA in terms of economical development, it suddenly means that the USA are going to be completely blown out of the water. As much as we like it, the world doesn't run on a monopoly. At least not until a nation can manage to take over enough parts of the world to have a sufficient enough hold over various natural materials and resources, as well as labor and well-fare of their population. And without that you just have an unbalanced market. People might not like the idea of competition, but it's better than one guy deciding the prices and getting fucked over because no one else is selling what he has. Like what's going on in Zimbabwe.

That and China isn't going to be doing well even if it can overcome the US in terms of economy. They got their own problems too. It just means they're losing money a bit slower than before, but still on a steady decline. They're going to need more than an economical lead to tip the balance. And that's assume that the development of the rest of the world remains stagnant and unchanging. Which is false if China is capable of gaining some sort of lead; someone else has to be failing, and that doesn't mean it's the USA. More likely it's going to be a neighboring country for the Chinese to exploit, like Laos or something.
