I believe that's the thing Sho. The rewards is to make sure we don't just inexplicably have things on a whim, or as a sort of more tangible means of applying our credits. While I'm sure none of us wants to try to simulate the life of student poverty, if we're given a tangible amount of money after missions that gives us a rough estimate of what our spending habits should be. Bullet's aren't free, and if Gren wants anything more then Hollowed Points and Armor Piercing, he'd better have the money to regularly supply it himself, and a good explanation of how he got all those toys.

I suppose there should be some kind of shop you can visit, where you can buy new clothing/armor/dust?

Vale's filled with shops like that. And if you're really desperate you can raid the school armoury or forge your own.

If Gren wants anything more than hollow point or armour piercing rounds, why not buy it off an in-RP shop? Why not be able to tangibly resupply? You say a 'good explanation' of how he got all those toys, but that doesn't matter, only the Credits should explain that. We have CREDITS for that part.

So therefore, why do we even get lien as a mission reward? Spending habits? Please, every student's spending habits depend on their familial backgrounds too. For instance Weiss is a rich girl and spends as much as she wants, though rarely in RWBY are characters seen going shopping like that.

Basically, we have no tangible use for lien, and therefore it is pointless at the moment.

Precisely what I am saying.

I think you're all just too lazy to make a shop where we can spend lien earned in missions.

@Sho Minazuki Credits are only one facade of our material gain system. And might I remind everyone that credits play not active role IC. They are an OOC method of deciding what we have the license to upgrade or increase. They tell us when we are physically allowed to have an upgrade. Lien controls when we can afford an upgrade. Credits are not an in game currency. Just saying cause I've seen the term pop up a number of times in the IC.

If you want to make a shop then you can, cause that's what I intend to do. If you want everyone to lay the groundwork for you instead of thinking up for something yourself, don't go calling all of us lazy. Just because you don't know what to do with your money doesn't mean we have to tell you.

"Lien controls when we can afford an upgrade"

Okay, this would be reasonable, except there is no system for this whatsoever within the google doc.

Why can't you guys just admit you didn't at all think this through?

No, because that's empty.

We could make a shop to have consumeable equipment like grenades to be used in missions or health kits, little armor upgrades that can make some missions more forgiving if you mess up like a one-time activating shield on a fatal hit, afford companions or pets, or even upgrades for them. There are loads of things you can do.

And best part? Everyone can buy them. Everyone. We can look at a mission, and think about if we need any of the consumeable equipment, and buy it if we have enough money.

I can go into more depth, but basically this will add more meaning to getting lien back from missions.

EDIT: Hell since everyone can buy them, everyone can pitch in to make items to be bought in the store if they have an idea.

Then why don't you help make the system, if you are so demanding for it? It's likely that there hasn't really been an idea of how to tangibly use Lien, mostly because we trust that you aren't going to abuse the power of money for selfish gain. Plus as you said before, it would also make those who have a background that would provide the characters a source of income have an advantage of those who don't; now if you have the Lien, you can buy as more tools and gadgets then those who aren't fortunate enough to have been born in say, a rich human family. Either that or you really have to resort to a life of crime to keep up the economic arms race.

If you really want to do something about it, why don't you try to lay the ground work and work with the GM's instead of insulting them for not doing what you want them to?

Would that make you happier? The truth is, yes we have no definitive system for exactly how much one thing to the next costs. Lien is based on Yen which means that one Lien is roughly equal to a cent. Use that to make an educated guess on exactly how much you would spend on certain items or what materials would cost you.

We're trying to make a slice of life RP with monsters and action sequences, not a video game. I'm not really seeing the idea of adding extra lives as buyable items as a productive idea.

Money is a necessary part of almost any society. We trust that each roleplayer isn't going to abuse the monetary system simply because there is no precedent set. For instance Sapphire has a rather sizable trust fund but you don't see me going around buy atlas military tanks and high powered explosives even though she likely could afford it.

I for one really like that idea, it seems like it'd add a new dimension of interaction between characters, where some would share more of their own lien than others and coming from a rich or poor family would mean something more than how they were raised.

"mostly because we trust that you aren't going to abuse the power of money for selfish gain"

That's redundant, because without a system to abuse, they can't. There was no way for them to even tangibly use lien in the first place. We had the Credits system to stop people from freely making upgrades for weapons and armor and semblance, and that's what everyone has been abiding by in the first place.

Yes precisely. Although I will for the sake of equality, push that only lien earned in missions can be spent on equipment. Your character can still live lavishly if they are from that kind of background, but for fairness, only lien earned in missions.

EDIT: Also to answer, I am indeed willing to make the shop, but I'd need Lugio's permission, and that there be some regulation as to what players wish to have added to the shop.

I'll also need a little time to study the mission income and see what prices would be reasonable. Too expensive no wants to use it, and too cheap it will have no meaning when bought.

Assuming it's to make a profit, more expensive items that have better or more permanence need to be considered, so that people not only have something to spend their lien on, but also something to SAVE their lien for.

Mistral Wine: 400 Lien, restores 50% HP but inflicts Dizzy and Uncertain status conditions.

I think I'd allow items like that.

Can be fun... Or risky if it's your only means of healing. Which can be fun.

On the other hand, prices I need to study and decide.

Do I have enough support for this to ask Lugio?

EDIT: Also Lien was based on rupees from Legend of Zelda, lien meaning "link" in French. If it was equal to Japanese yen, we were receiving 10-20 USD or AUD equivalent from missions.

I was being sarcastic and insinuating that you are treating this far too much like a video game compared to the more realistic (at least for an anime) approach that we're going for. I feel like I'm looking at Doctor Light's shop in between Megaman missions. Minus the name that's an item from a video game I'm working on in RPG Maker XP.
