All ties and ribbons must be worn properly and may not be loose, untied or absent. This will count against the allowed dress code.
All students’ middle school aged and up must carry their rings on them at all times. Elementary level students do not have rings yet. Students are allowed to wear the rings of their respective families but there are simple rings that the school will provide if the students are unable to use their family rings.
Any students caught abusing the power of their rings/flames will be immediately suspended. Any further actions regarding expulsion will depend on the severity of the crime.
Upon entry to Durante all students are tested for their flames.
All students are required to attend class.
- 3 unexcused absences will result in a detention. Unexcused absences are reported to the Heads of the House. A student may be excused from class by the Head of the House or school doctor. They must provide a note upon attending classes once more.
- 4 or more unexcused absences will result in two days of detention and/or make up time with the teacher.
- 7 or more unexcused absences will result in a weeks’ worth of detention, a letter home, and a meeting with the Head of House, Headmaster and teacher.
Tardiness is frowned upon at Durante. 3 tardies make up one unexcused absence and count towards the unexcused absence rules. Students 5 to 10 minutes late to a class are considered tardy.
Dormitory Rules and Requirements
All students must live on campus in the dormitories provided. Students whose families live on Durante Island are no exception. We take great care in providing the best comfort, care and safety for our students; the dormitories are guarded around the clock by a dedicated group of people called the "D.P" or Durante Police. They also patrol around the campus and town.
- Younger students must live with a family member. Durante believes that family is the most important thing and we pride ourselves in teaching generations of the same family; any younger student who does not have a family member attending the school will be appointed two temporary guardians - the Head of House and a "big brother or sister".
- Any who are interested in signing up for the "Big Brother and Sister" or BBS program must fill out an application and turn it into the Headmaster within the first two weeks of the beginning semester. The BBS program lasts until the BB/BS has graduated or one of the students is pulled from Durante.
- Alcohol, drugs and parties are prohibited. Any students caught with drugs or alcohol will be suspended for a minimum of one week, plus make ups for missed classes. We operate on a “three strike” basis – three complaints of evidence of drugs or alcohol and you will be expelled.
- Field trips to Mafia Land are allowed and usually entire dormitories go at a time.
- In the case of emergencies there are emergency telephones within the living room of each dormitory.
- There is a maximum of 14 students per dormitory, plus the Head of House.
- All dormitories are co-ed. Any sexual activities reported to the D.P or Headmaster will result in expulsion. You are here to learn, not to sleep around.
- There are required bi-weekly safety meetings for every dormitory.
- The dormitories are not separated according to age, family or flame. Here at Durante you put aside your differences and concentrate on your schooling. They are separated by their location around the campus.
- North Dorms- Located along the northern side of the campus.
- East Dorms- Located along the eastern side of the campus.
- West Dorms-Located along the western side of the campus.
- South Dorms- Located along the southern side of the campus.
