During his early years of practicing Muay Thai his family and friends worried about his slight obsession over the martial arts. Even Devin to a degree couldn’t explain why he felt so compelled to master a fighting style. Instead he continued to play it off as a passionate hobby. Over the years this continued until it was a reality that Devin truly enjoyed practicing and sparring Muay Thai.
While on a family trip to the Indonesian island of Java Devin took a boating trip where he was giving a guided tour for some tourists. Working on the boat his guests said they saw some odd lights in the water. Curious Devin saw the light and anchored the boat. After a quick free dive he pulled up six braided cords of rope which were still glowing even outside the warm dark water.
Bringing the ropes back he kept them and for several months they continued to glow brighter and brighter. He took them with him when he returned to New Zealand with his family only to see them stop glowing as they drew further and further away from the island of Java. It was has now been called one of the early tragedies of the unknown darkness two days later the island of Java was hit by a massive earthquake killing thousands.
Since then several events have drawn Devin to the realization that the ropes glow brighter and brighter when doom or danger is nearby. No example was greater than the one where he saw his mom and dad board the Malaysian flight MH370. Shortly after he got the news that all those on board and the plane were lost he returned to Thailand where his friends took him in.
