Waternaux

"Yo, Dante!" Michael called from his perch above Warernaux on a rock formation the residents liked to call 'the watch'. Dante looked up from her work maintaining the tents that served as their homes. Because they weren't meant for consistent use they were always needing repairs and maintenance. It was meticulous work that, if done wrong, could cause lots of problems for the residents of the tents. They were currently trying to fix the problem by finding ways to build homes on the uneven and rocky ground of the Crags. Dante grunted as she got up from her kneeling position. She responded with her own call.
"What's the word Mike?"

He lifted his wrist and tapped it, indicating his solar watch. Dante looked at her own watch and saw that it was time for the weekly team leader meeting. It was when the five leaders met with her to inform her of the current problems and progress that was being made around Waternaux. It was a new rule she had put into place to keep things organized and to keep everyone focused. She showed a thumbs up to Michael at the watch before turning to Dean who was on the ground with her.
"Hey dean, could you patch that for me, I've got to get going." He looked up from his place inspecting a nearby tent and nodded.
"Sure thing boss."
She let out a sigh. "Didn't I ask you not to call me that?"
He spoke with a grin "Not that I can remember boss."
She rolled her eyes and walked away, heading for the small plateau that made up the briefing area.

By the time she got there everyone else was already seated. Due to the system whith which Waternaux ran, each week every team rotated to a new job. So, to keep track of who was in charge of what, there was a circle of stumps with different colored flags on them. Red for Watch duty, Orange for maintenance, Green for coming up with ideas to help out (aka Think Tank), Black for Scavenge, and finally her seat which looked exactly like theirs except it was uncolored. Dante sat and looked at the Team leaders. "So, what's on the billet this week?"

Team Meeting Results

  • Food. We're running out and we need to find more. Recommend sending out a scavenging team to find more food.
    • Long Term. Find sustainable food source.
  • Tents need to be fixed up good and tight, looks like a bad storm'll be coming in soon.
    • Long Term. Find how to make suitable housing.
  • I've thought of a way we could make Waternaux more defensible by placing Barricades made out of Rock at key points.
    • Long Term. Set up heavy defenses around Waternaux

WIP DO NOT MAKE OFFICIAL UNTIL THIS MESSAGE IS ERASED
James DeFonz had called a Jury-Council meeting. The offender in question was Jack-Jhon, the fattest of the town residents.
Jack-Jhon:
He was accused of robbing the town food stores. After a 20-minute fit of crying, he pleaded guilty and was sent to 300 hours of community service and decreased rations for 3 weeks. He bawled about the rations, and had to be removed by the Internal Police Force Chief Gregory Fredricks, who doubled as Court-Martial.
Police Chief Gregory Fredricks:
This is how I wake up...bawling civilians and a 3-week food crisis. The fat bastard. I think I'll ask Jane to put him on sewage plumbing...
No time for malicious thoughts, I have a meeting.

After the brief disruption, The Council was called the decide the goals of the settlement. Such meetings happened every month, and James rather enjoyed them.
Transcript uses initials:
JD: James DeFonz
GF: Internal Police Chief Gregory Fredricks
JW: Councilwoman Jane Waterman, Secretary of Government Services
EW: Councilman Edgar Waterman, Secretary of Resource Allocation
DB: Councilman Donald Barbon, Secretary of Defense
VH: Councilwoman Veronica Hickory, Secretary of the Citizenry
JS: Councilwoman Jamie Scoutsman, Secretary of Internal Maintenance
Steelwolfe Hall, April 18, 10 in the Years After the Initial Apocalypse
JD: I call this 'ere meeting't to order!
JD: What are yall's initial statements?
[General Commotion]
JD: Listen 'ere! We going' clockwise! Chief Fredricks?
GF: Crime is on the rise. As our town grows, people seem to be takin' 'vantage o'er the situation. Why, thats 5 days in a row we've had us a morning' sentencin'.
JD: And yer proposed solution?
GF: We need a larger internal police. We are only 5 strong at the moment.
EW: You realize that is 10% of our total population? And 46% of our population is permanently employed by the government? We can't afford to have that number i'crease, as I fear our losing' of our markets.
GF: [Yells] We can't afford to keep losin' our food stores! Fuck the markets!
JS: Gregory is right. Our stores have reported a 150% incline in criminal activity concerning' then since we absorbed Woodville.
JD: Enough! My Executive Decision is as follows: Our long-term goal will be increasin' civil authority by means of keeping a po'potional police force and better equipping them. Stricter punishments and the establishment of a penal mine to replace community service will be necessary.
JD: Other proposals?
EW: Scavengin' will need to continue, as usual. I propose settin' Team Gamma as a permanent Scavengin' Corps.
[General agreement]
JD: Agreed.
DB: We have been sufferin' increased attacks from the south lately. Mine and Veronica's polls say our citizens want a wall. We have some barbed wire sitting' round at the stores. It would just take 'round 5 days to enclose us, offering' better 'section is probably' worth it, I reckon.
JD: Opposition?
[Silence]
JD: Agreed.
JD: Then that settles it, we'll get up a Penal Mine

DeFonz went to his desk, sifted through the files and found the complaint registry.
