Martin stared Mo in the eyes for a few seconds in which he failed to hide the primal fear in his eyes.
"I.. apologize for losing my temper.. I will chose my words more carefully from now on."
Martin paused and took a deep breath. He knew his story by heart, and planned to tell it after a bargain had been struck.
But this seemed unlikely now. But he did recognize an old wisdom in the ancient's eyes.
"First, I must dispel the illusion of pollution. We, you and I, our species, will not, nay, can not 'harm' the earth.
All we do is rearrange the components and change the nature of our habitat. The worst 'we' an do is change it to a point where our and many other species will go extinct. The thing I aim to protect is the integrity of the habitat as is.
Normally when a species population reaches the limit of what it's habitat can support it has gone nearly extinct.
The remains survive to repopulate as a stronger and more adjusted species. It is the heartbeat of evolution.
Humanity is a complex one however as a second option arose. Every time in history capacity was reached we either lost most of our population to war or disaster, or we achieved new levels of technology that allowed us to increase the capacity of our habitat. From crop cultivation and animal husbandry to a class system, infrastructure and so on.
However we are about to hit a limit as our habitat has become all of earth, and space age comes a few ages too late.
If we are to survive we must die, en masse. But with all our medical advancement no disease can reach high enough potential to do the job.
And war has become too unstable to do this time, as the nuclear threat would damage our habitat to an extent where we would definitely go extinct completely.
A bleak future in which no intelligent life remains, like the saurian species before us we'll make place for new species to arise.
Thus we must rely on a specialized disease, one that acts consciously, and with precision. A parasite, -honestly, no offence- that has been cultivated alongside our species. At long last this parasite will turn out to be symbiotic. Humanity needs a predator to cull the herd.
When the wolf leaves the rabbits will populate and eat the plains bare, the crass will run out and the rabbits will starve.
If the vampire race can indeed unite under one mind that understands this, there is hope for us both.
I am glad to see we do agree on the necessity of this war. Humanity has come well past the worlds capacity.
So I present to you the responsibility of ensuring all elements humanity can use to break the pillars it leans on are taken from them.
The means to craft nuclear weaponry. The technology that allows us to deforest and to over-fish. The infrastructure that allows us to acquire and spend fossil fuels. And all the other elements that can sends us tumbling off the knife's edge. Like the blade on the table behind me.
If you take this position I'll offer you the stone to solidify your rule over your kind, and I offer to secure and contain the weapon known as contagion as well as advice on the other elements. That they may be buried in the sands of time."
