I'm afraid of me godmodding or something. How do I know when I should say that my character has sumbitted or died? Is that basically just up to me?

Basically. Don't be one of those people who try and get all... illogical.. when you know that ass has been spanked.

It's based mostly on logic for me and that seems to work out. If your opponent is swinging a sword at you and you know your character couldn't dodge or block it, at that point you accept the hit and realistic damage that would ensure. If you don't know if your character could realistically have time to dodge then you could discuss it with your opponent. How fast was the swing? How fast is your character? Did the attack surprise them so they wouldn't have enough time to react? etc.

It's up to you if you want them to get killed off sooner than it would have to logically happen. For example, if you think you could possibly squeeze out a dodge, you can still say they didn't for some reason.

Thanks you guys, you have been awfully helpful. Most helpful people on this forum I've met so far
Im going to come with a character later and I was wondering if I could try it out on either Rilla or Skall, since you guys seem to be the most expirienced?

I think you should pop into the chat thread and meet some of the others, discuss your character idea. It is always good to see what does and does not work in the arena. Saves retconning a character.

I was actually thinking we should have done a scripted tutorial battle a long time ago to give people a more hands on look at how a battle goes and what not to do. I thought of a character for this just yesterday who's called My-Te Star. My-Te's weapon of choice is the "all powerful" vibrosword. His power is immortality so he can always come back from his last lethal mistake, only to make another one.

*sigh*

Didn't we already go over the concept of vibroswords in the last iteration of the multiverse? XD

That aside, i like your idea of a tutorial battle. It'd be useful to also have some commentary included in each post, explaining why and how exactly a move was executed.

Would anyone care to dance?

Post in the chat thread you want a fight. You'll be asked by Rilla if you want to join the ranks, then post the character in the roster thread, then you will get a few questions before a fight gets set between you and probably In.

Physics decide that. If the opponent launches a potentially lethal strike, and you have no means of avoiding it, then you're dead. It's a bit trickier with things like blood loss, but as long as your opponent describes well what kind of damage they receive, you shouldn't have problems with the long-term effects of wounds and trauma either.

So is I throw a bunch of nuero-toxic gas grenades?(nuero-toxin is a venom that focuses of the brains functions, such as shutting down the nervous system or causing paralysis)
Edit
Speaking of which That gives me an idea for an arena character

Well, most people are smart enough to evade something like a grenade, because even if it were an ordinary explosive it could kill them. If they have no resistance to a neuro-toxic gas and they fail to move out of the way then they suffer the consequences. Though due to the relatively overpowered nature of poison in gas form, most characters have some form of resistance to it.

It all depends on the fighter.

Well, you seem to have the general jist of it then, it's basically a game of increasingly elaborate strategies designed to defeat an opponent.

Well Arena fights can be fun as everyone is willing to help develop story for each others characters. The thing is to develop a story over a series of fights.

***

Also while writing is important in all levels of text based role-playing. Being clear in your writing is an absolute in the arena. The more detailed a picture you can create goes a long way in how a fight flows and ultimately how fun it can be.

So after looking through several arena fights and such I decided I would be interested in trying this again. Have to get some characters out first though so I'll posting a few here for review if that's alright. Also this first one is still a WIP so feel free to be brutal. Just don't hurt me feels too bad D:
