Alias: Hyperspeed
Real name: Jane Sterling
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Standing a little under six feet tall, she has a thin, athletic body and is modestly endowed, so to say. While she mostly resembles something human, her skin is a slate blue color, her teardrop-shaped eyes possess unusually large pupils and vibrant green irises, and she has no nose to speak of. Her perfectly black hair is in a short layered cut, and she has a small thin mouth. When not getting her superhero on, she tends to dress comfortably and casually in jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies, though she by no means limits herself to those options. When she is out hero-ing, she wears a battle suit made of alien alloys in green and gray colors, known as the OK-M7. Her eyes also glow green when she's moving at superhuman speeds, though this can obviously be difficult to see.
Personality:
Jane Sterling, whether she's fighting crime as Hyperspeed or not, is every bit as quirky and strange as you would expect an alien girl to be. She faces every challenge with a wisecrack and a confident grin, and she doesn't shy away from voicing her opinion when she thinks something is wrong. She's also an idealist who believes in second chances, even for the worst criminals, and while she may crack jokes at her friend's expense, she is nothing if not compassionate about those she cares about and steadfastly loyal to her allies. She also loves meeting new people and discovering new and fascinating things about "human culture", and despite her occasional struggles with reading and speaking English she's more intelligent then her attitude would suggest.
Short Biography:
Jane was born on the distant planet Xamenid, an unwilling vassal of the interplanetary empire known as the Aaru Dominion. The cruel, oppressive regime turned the peaceful cultural oasis into an industrial slave state, working the native Xamenidians to the bone and responding to every attempt at resistance with mass slaughter. Jane's unknown mother attempted to spare her daughter, still little more than an embryo in a chrysalis (Xamenidians hatch as teenagers), from such a life, and convinced a sympathetic smuggler to bring her daughter to a distant world where she would live in freedom. The Aaru discovered the plan and sent their fighters after the smuggler's starship, and he rocketed through a geomagnetic storm to escape, which crippled his ship and unknowingly altered the embryonic Jane's DNA. His ship crashed on Earth in the North Sea, and he managed to escape off the planet while the British Royal Navy found Jane's cocoon in the wreckage. It was transferred to MI6 for cold storage until it was smuggled out of government custody by Blake Sterling, a xenogeneticist and an agent of Overwatch Twelve, a semi-clandestine organization that deals with extraterrestrial situations. Recognizing the powers that the embryo developed from the the geomagnetic storm, Blake convinced his superiors to let him handle the embryo when it hatched, and when the then unnamed alien hatched thirteen years later, Blake and his family raised her like a daughter, educating her and helping her control her powers, and even giving her the name Jane. Thankfully Jane was a fast learner, and had gotten a decent grasp on the English language and mastered her super speed abilities in a few years. Realizing that the latter was an ability that not even humans had, she decided that she wanted to use her abilities to help people. Overwatch Twelve liked the idea and employed her as an agent, hiding her identity and alien nature under the alias of Hyperspeed. Eventually the organization warmed up to the idea of a superhero alien, and after much pleading on her part they changed the terms of her employment, allowing Jane to be a publicly known superhero.
Powers, Skills & Equipment:
Jane's primary and most notable ability is her superhuman speed. With it she can catch up to and even outrun some cars, dodge fast enough to avoid bullets, and even run across water and up the sides of buildings, albeit with some difficulty. Her speed also comes with accelerated healing, which allows her to recover much faster from wounds and diseases, with serious cuts, bruises, and even minor broken bones within moments. She's developed a unique fighting style which capitalizes on her abilities to manipulate enemies, dodging and countering with precise, powerful strikes, goading her opponents with just the right insults to get them fighting sloppy and aggressive, and using the environment to her advantage. Her sole piece of equipment is the OK-M7 battle suit, composed of alien alloys salvaged by Overwatch Twelve from alien artifacts. Despite its solid metallic appearance, it is actually very lightweight, flexible, and form-fitting, generating very little friction upon contact and giving modest protection against shrapnel and similar obstacles.
Weakness:
While Jane is excellent at avoiding attacks, she doesn't do so well when she actually gets hit. She's something of a glass cannon, she can take few punches from your standard goon, but an especially powerful or superhuman punch will knock the wind out of her, and she doesn't fare much better against the shock wave from a bomb or a similar explosive. This is compounded by the fact that she has little to no ranged attack options, outside of throwing whatever happens to be lying around. She also has a little difficulty learning
