Youkai, from what I understand, are just supernatural Japanese spirits, who can range from being minor inconveniences to causing disasters.

On the other hand, demons are universally reviled and considered to be the types of monsters that go around causing massive amounts of havoc.

Because they're all weebs, they call the demons that roam the Crimson Sky 'Youkai', even though straight up calling the demons 'demons' would make more sense, in regards to the connotations attached to the words. XD

Of course, if the GM has another explanation for this, whatever then. All I have to go off of is the first post of the Int Chek.

Not all are demons, Yokai are spirits and deities as well, just try to think creatures with higher purposes.

For the context of this RP, Youkai are considered demons since they come in all forms, shapes, and sizes (going off of the GM's definition of them from the last RP). As for what is a Youkai, those are the denizens that reside in the Crimson World. Or for the sake of being technical, any character that's not human in this RP.

Senna's only true affiliation is herself, pure and simple. However, she is not adverse to working for someone else as long as they are strong. Strong enough to thoroughly beat her in a fight or outwit her - she will serve them so long as they remain so. That's not saying she won't change allegiances if she grows bored with her current master, however...

Appearance:

Human Form:
Senna, in her mostly human form takes the appearance of an attractive woman. She has long, waist length black hair that seems to hang lifelessly even if there is a breeze blowing. Her skin is extremely pale, almost a pure white color. Really, put her against a sheet of printer paper and her skin is probably a bit whiter. She has very visible ears that end in a sharp point, which sometimes twitch in either irritation or impatience if something is taking awhile. She constantly has a bored look on her face, as if always searching for something 'fun' to do. All of her teeth end in sharp points. Her most notable differences though, are her legs, arms and eyes. Her eyes, are a bright orange - the sclera of which is black. From the knees down, her legs are covered in a hard, thick layer of what looks to be armor with her feet ending in sharp clawed talons. Her arms from her elbow down, are much the same and end in five sharp claws. A lithe tail extends from her waist, ending in a sharp point and often idly flicking back and forth out of boredom.

As for clothing?...what Clothing? Senna doesn't exactly like wearing clothes. Her armor takes care of that more or less, even in its stand-by state. What looks like a simple form-fitting metal vest made out of light armor plating adorns her body normally, covering most of her chest, back, and a bit of her thighs. It is far from modest, however, since the front doesn't exactly cover anything up completely from the waist up aside from her important bits.

True Form:
However much Senna likes gallivanting around as a human, she can never hide the fact she is in fact a youkai. Not that she tries too all that much considering her appearance.

Her actual form is much more demon looking than her human form. Standing at eight feet when at full height, she looses almost any semblance of her human form and instead becomes what could almost be described as a feral beast that delights in killing people. First, her body is covered entirely in incredibly durable and flexible armor and she grows a total of two feet. Her tail does as well, becoming an armored weapon perfect for bashing, or using the axe-like end to cut anyone attempting to sneak up on her. Her face is covered as well, loosing any of its previous human charms with it. Instead, a macabre grin is plastered across a metal plate that is used in place of a her face. On her back, spikes of numerous length grow. The claws on her hands grow longer, along with gaining two blades on her lower arms that protect her arms.

The appearance of the beast isn't at all as large as it seems. In fact, its quite lithe and agile, built more for agility rather than brute strength though it is still quite strong. If summed up in a few words, I would describe her as 'A Heavily Armored Raptor'

Note: Talking in this form is actually a bit difficult for her.

Personality:
Senna, is quite simple in her behavior when you get down to it. She follows what is probably the oldest and simplest thing in the book: The strong trample over the weak, and the weak will either follow or be brushed aside. She is about as bloodthirsty and as violent as most Youkai come, and especially delights in causing a bit of a mess when she gets her hands on a human or two. Obviously, she's not the most friendliest or nicest of people when you get down to it.

However, her outward personality greatly hides her more...violent tendencies towards humans. When meeting a human for the first time, she can come off as helpful, or at least amicable if somewhat...flirty, in her mannerisms. If a human happens to wonder into the Crimson Sky and she finds them - she'll seemingly offer her help, at first, but its mostly just an act to toy with the human in some manner. Gain their trust so to speak, and then promptly kill them the moment they need her help, or until she grows bored of them. She can be seemingly altruistic at times, offering help for seemingly no reason. Usually though, its simply because she believes whoever she will be helping will help alleviate her boredom in the long run, either by dying a brutal death at a later point, or simply giving her a good show of something.

When first meeting a human, she'll usually play nice until she determines weather or not they'll be any fun. If they won't be, she'll simply play with them. Which usually ends with the human being killed, dismembered, and subsequently probably eaten. Though, if she takes a liking to a human she can be quite...friendly, with them. However, this is rare that this happens. And if it does, she usually takes a liking to criminals, and others who...aren't exactly the friendliest of people.

If, she does take a liking to someone, they will find a surprising side to her that she doesn't show anyone else. Namely, loyalty among her...affections of other sorts. Of course, there has only ever been one instance of this that she recalls. Try asking her about it. Can surprisingly be a bit lazy at times unless something catches her attention.

Background:
Ah...where to start with her history? She's been around awhile, ever since the medieval ages, and maybe before then. Her earliest memories that she can recall with clarity are of are being in the employ of a certain Transylvanian king as a torturer. She may have been around longer, but if so she can't exactly remember. Memories from that time are fuzzy to nonexistent, but she doesn't think too much about it, since she doesn't really care. She does know, she was originally a violent youkai, though how she came to possess a human form is lost on her.

Mostly, she spends her days bored inside of the Crimson Sky looking for a bit of entertainment with either some unwitting humans or some youkai that have the misfortune to cross her path. Often, she can be found sleeping much like a cat would on some high-up place, observing the ground for anything interesting going on.

"Ah...my abilities? Well, I'm good at what I do..."
Powers:
Her powers are mostly physical in nature. Enhanced strength, speed, and agility are her forte. She is incredibly fleet of foot despite weighing quite a bit. Most of the time, she uses her speed and agility to ambush opponents and kill them before they even know what she has done to them. Her strength, while not as strong as those that specialize in it, she can still pack quite a bit of a punch. Especially since her claws are made out of some unknown material that can seemingly cut through most normal metals with ease. She can easily lift her own body weight plus a few hundred lbs or so.

Defensive wise, she is basically a suit of walking armor. However, do not think that just because its old-fashioned armor means it can easily be dealt with. While true, it doesn't have the benefits of some magical armor and more modern armor, it will take quite a bit of force for the armor to buckle, give way, or fail enough to injure her.

Additionally, she has the ability to see even in the darkest of areas and her sense of hearing and smell is almost impossible to match. The downside, is that her increased armor weight means its a bit difficult for her to be stealthy since every step she makes could potentially cause a giant 'thud', if she's not careful.

Essentially, she is almost the prefect ambush-predator but can also hold her own in an extended fight if she had too, at least for awhile.

The ability she likes the best, however, is her ability to gain power from her victims. When I said they would probably be eaten? Yeah, she does that. Consuming more, means her own strength will grow. Of course, she will need to consume quite a number of people/youkai for any noticeable effect to happen.

She is able to change a certain part of her armor at a time. Meaning, she could just change an arm, leg, helmet, or any other body part.

"We~ll, I've been told I'm quite calm and quite...fast. Want to see for yourself?~"

Skills:
- hand-to-hand combat in both Youkai and human form.
- Calm in most situations.
- Resourceful and Adaptable.
- Quite agile in Youkai form. (Think Free running, here.)

Hey, guys, I'm back but I'm just hopping in to answer some of the questions that have been raised, before I can have the the tie ot start the OOC thread (which will come around Thurday to Sunday, by the way) and begin the actual game where you can search for answers on your own.

Here's what @Eschatologist asked, in a nut shell:

1 - What exactly is a youkai, in the context of this game?

2 - How are youkai born, what is their growing process like, and what are their naming conventions?

3 - What do they eat, is there a youkai economy, is there a youkai shared language, and what are some common youkai aspirations?

4 - Is there a sort of youkai society, and if so, what kind?

5 - Do youkai need to sleep, do they believe in a god, and are there cultural or moral norms shared among them? What is the common youkai moral outlook? What are the common youkai beliefs about humans?

6 - Have all youkai met humans? What are the rumors?

7 - Are there youkai scientists, or any sort of Youkai research community larger than the individual?

8 - Do youkai go over to the human world?

9 - Do youkai value territory specifically?

10 - What are some of the main reasons human-hating youkai hate humans?

And hre are the answers:

1 - Just as been said before. An Youkai is bascally anything that's non-human or (very rarely) android on this RP, it's not an unified race, but a catch-all term for all sorts of creatures, from the lowly hellhounds and goblins, to the mightest of the vampire lords (now, a near-extinct race) and the nine-tailed foxes, all are Youkai.

2 - The way they are "born" depends on their specific species, but most of them (mainly the mindless types) are simply spawned from the shadows of the Crimson Sky. Pretty much all Youkai are "born" the way they are, there's no such thing as a growth process for most lowly species, but again, this can vary. The reason for these two facts is simple, Youkai are basically spirits given flesh (or sometimes not), and thus don't have a understandable physiology based on human standards. In fact, when Youkai die, they leave behing a Soul Stone, which is a black rock inlaind with red gems, I'll get back to that in no time. Lastly, there's no such thing as a name convention for them, since they don't have an unified culture. Most Youkai (even among the sentient ones) don't even have names, to begin with.

3 - It depends, most Youkai who live only on the Crimson Sky feed on one another, creating a food chain where humans take the place of the plants and mindless Stray Youkai, the one of herbivores. That said, they don't need all that to exist, and con go for long times without food, at the cost of increasing hunger. There's also those who live on life energy instead of flesh and even te ones that prefer a good ol' bowl of ramen, since they can eat human food too, if they want. The sentient Youkai use Soul Stones as currency when they need something like that, and trade them with the Chasers for rare items from the Crimson Sky or money, thus many Chasers are on this job as a means of living. The later two questions are both irrelevant based on my other answers, I think, but the answers are no and depends on the individual.

4 - There isn't any society for them as a whole. What can exist is things like tribes and clans. In the past there were things like mighty empires and such, the greatest of them being the one ruled by the vampires of the Tepes bloodline, but even that fell to the inherent savagery of the crimson world and its inhabitants. The deepest parts of the Crimson Sky are full with mysterious ruins of the past, for you to explore, if you want more detail on this specific matter. The thing most similar to an Youkai society would be the organization known as Youkai Junction that's headed by Akane Chikage, a misterious mistress of unphatomable power and very capricious nature, who nevertheless remains neutral in the conflict between other groups.

5 - Again, depends, but most don't need any sort of rest (pretty much anyone other than the vampires, to say the truth). Some treat the moon as a god, named Tsukuyomi, but if he exists, he doesn't show any drop of simpathy or care for his followers (again this is another big plot, so you should search IC). All of the other are either irrelevant or just plain no as answer, excep the last. Again it depends on individual, but most only think of human as food (picture this: What do you think of the last chicken you have eaten?).

6 - No, there's Youkai who exist without knowing about the human world, but only if they live on the depper parts of the Crimson Sky, mainly the ones who live in forests and mountain, etc... on a city it's impossible to not know humans. There's no such thing as rumors, since information don't flow well on the other side, because of the utter chaos that is the natural order of things.

7 - Absolutely yes, but I again it depends on individual, most don't care for science, but there are few who got intrigued with it nd decided to try their hands. But any science they practice would resemble more alchemy and not the clean one we have on the human side. Then again, the very world of the Crimson Sky hates this kind of thing, so anything like a laboratory is doomed to destruction.

8 - The ones who live in the cities croos over much like humans do. Either intentionally (mostly to hunt) or by accident, since the portals are two-way.

9 - Most of them are rather territorial, just liek any animal would be. No one wants others in their hunting turf/home.

10 - Hate knows no reason, but i you want one , it would be plain just racism. Powerful Youkai cen be exemplars of hubris (much like humans too), and tend to tink that anything bellow them is worthless, specially humns and feral Youkai.

11 - Again, this depends on individual, most just try to find their next meal (again, like most humans do).

12 - Same things, different name. Just like aliens, intraterrans, atlantinians, fairies and all that other supernatural things. All are considered to be Youkai, for the purposes of this RP.

Affiliation: Unaffiliated with any large group, Susan has a cadre of friends who can call on each other for support.
Aliases/Titles: Susan bounced back and forth between names for a long time, never quite settling on one. Susan is merely one in a long line of monikers chosen from particularly fascinating humans. She was Winston most proudly, and Bernadette for the longest while.

Personality: Curiosity may have a reputation for feline fatality, but Susan embraces it all the same. She loves to know things: interesting things, boring things, incidental things, things of all shapes and sizes. She is hungry for knowledge, and devours it voraciously and with extreme relish. She is fascinated with humanity, and spends a great deal of her time learning about those people across the veil. Her time among mortals has made her much more compassionate towards them, and nowadays finds the thought of harming them repulsive, speaking to her changeability if nothing else. She is highly pragmatic and shrewd when the feeling takes her, though her primary desires are purely hedonistic: Susan does not seek knowledge for its own sake but for the enjoyment it brings her, and spends plenty of her time indulging her desires and living her life to the fullest. She is loud and friendly, boisterous and cantankerous, though deep down she is always self-serving, essentially doing what would bring her the most pleasure at any given moment.

Background: Spawned in 1920, “Susan” (her first name was Sieglinde, after her first book was a book of German fairy tales) spent her formative years spending the lion’s share of her time in the human world in one of the greatest eras of optimism and exuberance ever seen. These experiences colored her, the flapper society in particular setting roots in her psyche that have not quite receded. She retreated into the Crimson more and more as the depression turned to the War, and became more acquainted with her fellow spirits, shifting her curious gaze from the multicolored human land to the monochromatic demon one, her isolation prompted by a stern rebuke after a suggestion to just kill this Hitler fellow and be done with it.

Her dalliance with the human world resumed after ’45, though more grounded in her otherworldly home, and faced with a choice between the vivacity of the west and the austerity and oppression of the east she chose the former, spending most of her time roaming the Crimson versions of NATO countries, popping over to investigate and occasionally staying in one place for a few human years. The cold war may be over, but her travels have brought her to Japan, and she has no plans to move on just yet.

Powers: Susan’s power seems simple at first: she can create, direct and shape up to three sets of linked portals through space. The restrictions on this power made it more complicated than it seemed. Transport through the portals is instantaneous, and they are functionally tunnels in space rather than teleporters. The six possible portals can be opened or closed, and are always connected in the same fashion: one portal cannot lead to two different ones, nor can two lead into one. The portals have no solid edges, they are simply moving holes without frames. The edges are however easy to see, thanks to the odd sight of one view immediately changing to another. Up to two portals can be manipulated simultaneously. The portals can only be opened, moved or reshaped within approximately 100 meters of Susan in any direction. Portals can be closed from anywhere, and will continue to exist if Susan moves more than 100 meters away from them. Portals are not necessarily two dimensional, and can be morphed through three dimensions, though creating complex shapes becomes difficult for Susan to maintain, especially if other portals are open. Connected portals always have the same dimensions and angles. Portals move at a maximum rate determined by their surface area, from dozens of meters per second at areas of a few centimeters to walking pace at several meters squared. Portals expand at a fixed rate of the perimeter, somewhere around 5 meters of perimeter per second, with a maximum perimeter of 100 meters. For reasons unknown to Susan, this rate is increased by a factor of 3.6 in the first few seconds of the portal being created. Portals are created by expanding from nothing. Portals can change size while moving or being reshaped, but this action becomes difficult for Susan over time. Portals do not need to be created where Susan sees them, but her accuracy decreases when there is no line of sight. Portals do not need continuous concentration while open, though as mentioned before accurate manipulation becomes more difficult the more portals there are. Portals cannot exist independently, and since they change size together and are closed by reducing their perimeter to 0, it is not possible to have an unmatched portal. Since it takes one second to open a portal which can be easily passed through, Susan is limited in her applications of them, and when danger comes she relies on preparation to make up for the limits her power possesses.

Thanks to youkai anatomy, her physical capabilities are well above that of the average human, though utterly dwarfed when compared to those of her fellow denizens of the Crimson, despite her lack of physical training.

Skills: She can speak and write English, Japanese and German. She has a high-school graduate understanding of most scholastic subjects thanks to her personal studies, with her understanding of physics and math somewhat greater due to personal interest. She learned to love the trumpet, and plays it to a very high degree after learning during some of her first dalliances in the human world. She is very well read, and has adopted human technology to a much greater degree than most other youkai, though she is by no means an expert. The accomplishment she prizes most highly is her understanding and adaptation of human culture, and although it is much higher than the average youkai, the fact she is not a native is still painfully obvious, especially in cultures she has not yet learned of in detail [like japan], and her alien status is obvious, especially when she is not being fastidiously careful to maintain appearances.

Weapons: She carries none.

Equipment: A pocket knife, a warm jacket, and comfortable running shoes.

I THINK I got everything important about the portals down. Hopefully the limitations will make them both fun to play with and balanced. I might change the spawn speedup slightly, make it shorter and less significant, but otherwise this should be fine.

I'm not super happy with Susan. Her misinformation and fascination with humanity will be fun, but her power as written reads like something out of a bad chinese girl cartoon, perhaps a tad to specific. We'll see, I suppose. I may change it around.
