Mikael's mother found Mikael fast asleep on his desk at 9am, when he should have been dealing with the customers at the front desk. With the loudest noisemaker she could find in the workshop, Mikael was woken up and informed that as punishment he would be barred from the store and the house for the rest of the day, and that she and her brother, Mikael's uncle, would take care of his workload instead. For anyone else, not having to work after sleeping in late would be a godsend, but for Mikael, this meant no tinkering, no blueprinting and no playing with his AI cat. Basically, no fun at all.
And to make matters worse, he had to wear a wristband that jammed his technopathic powers so he couldn't even hijack someone's smart phone for the internet while he was 'on break'. He could, and on many previous occasions did, try to hack the wristband to stop it from working. But somehow, even if he repaired it before he came back home his mother could tell through intuition that Mikael had tampered with it, and he would spend the rest of the night cleaning the entire house by hand. So really, it would be best to leave it be and try to enjoy a day without any access to his tech.
Outside the shop, as Mikael started to come down from the adrenaline rush of the alarm, he was in no mood to go out and relax. He desperately wanted to get back to his workbench and resume where he left off the night before. But knowing his mother would sooner set the security on him than let him in so early, he wisely decided instead to get some coffee to make up for the 4 hours he slept that morning. He went to the nearest coffee house, ordered a double espresso, took a seat in one of their armchairs and fell fast asleep before he took one sip.
