@Aisling I've heard that the health care system in the US is worse than the one in Germany. It's 100% private, there's no real statutory health insurance that everyone can afford, even if you have a health insurance, you still have to pay many things on your own,... that's not exactly what I call 'good'. Here in Germany, everyone has to have a health insurance. Half of the membership fee is payed by the employee, while the other half is payed by the employer. And for those who can't afford it, membership is free. Then, most hospitals are state-funded, whoch means that they have to be less greedy for money, lowering the number of unnecessary treatment that is done.

It isn't that bad now because Obama put a law in effect and while a lot of business owners hate it, people like it. Look up Obama Care or The official name for “ObamaCare” is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), or Affordable Care Act (ACA) for short. • The ACA was signed into law to reform the health care industry by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010 and upheld by the Supreme Court on June 28, 2012.

Here is one site: obamacarefacts.com/obamacare-facts

I think that it is better than what we had before but because Obama is Democrat, Republicans hate it and that is how it goes.

I am on the insurance and I have to pay for 20% after my deductible of $1500. I do have to pay for one more year before getting the lower rate which would be around $50 a month instead of $230.

@Aisling It's still much worse than in Germany. The site says that ObamaCare gives more Americans the opportunity for good quality health insurances when it should give that opportunity to all of them. Here in Germany, everyone has coverage. Plus I've heard from others that you still have to spend a lot of money. In a Facebook group on back problems, someone posted his surgery bill of $70. Of course, that isn't much, compared to what the surgery actually costs. But here in Germany, that bill would have been exactly 0.00€. Some other told me that he has to pay up to $4000 on his own per year. That wouldn't happen in Germany either.

But it is better than before. It is a step in the right direction. You pay a lot more in taxes than US I'd bet. I pay about 20% of my income to taxes. I'd like to have a national health care for basic health (not tummy tucks or face lifts for cosmetics reasons, that kind of stuff ) We would pay more in taxes but get more in the end. Maybe one day we will have a national health coverage like yours.

@Aisling That's true. Our taxes are higher, but again, only those who can afford it have to pay them. If you're unemployed, for example, you don't have to pay for anything.

By the way, here in Germany, even cosmetic surgeries are covered in some cases: When it has been proven that the person demanding it is mentally suffering from his looks.

I am not for any unnecessary surgeries but if you really needed one then you prove that you need it like I did with my back, then you will get it.
One day it won't matter because there will be a one world government....

@Aisling Here in Germany, you don't need to prove that. If a doctor says that you need a surgery, your health insurance will pay for it.

Sorry to take so long.. both parents got home and garage door stuck....
In US there are doctors that are called quacks. They do their practice without proper licence and don't keep current with new things. Which is why I check out the credentials.

I feel that if I have to have a surgery, I can have a second or third doctor to make sure that I must have the surgery.

Sorry about that but unless I have known the doctor and his/her work, I will have a second opinion. And maybe tha is why you thought that it was mandatory. I didn't mean to confuse what I wrote.
