Ace Makovich – Diner

Ace looked around and soon everyone had left. HE crossed his arms and walked back to the kitchen area. *All those people and not a single sale.* He wiped down the counter and continued to try and read the paper but as he sat down on the stool, an older woman with bags in hand walked inside the diner. Ace looked up from his paper, “I will be right with you ma’am, please have a seat anywhere.”

He stood up and made a new batch of coffee. As he waited for the pot, a caravan arrived in front of the diner, and soon Daniel Fitch and his cohorts walked in. Ace smiled as they delivered the milk he had ordered. They knew the drill and headed to the hatch outside the diner that led downstairs. Ace walked outside and unlocked it for them.

“Took you guys a while, its nearly 1PM.” Ace said as he turned to Daniel.

“Eh, you got your milk that’s all that matter. Also, got those crates of veggies and spices you requested. I gotta get going, gotta get the gun from Barney otherwise Mom will chew me out.”

Ace locked up the cellar doors and returned back inside. He walked over to the elderly woman, “Name’s Ace, Anything I can do for you ma’am, I can pretty much cook up anything you like. As you can see I got restocked, so don’t be afraid to request anything.”

Rick Noel – Finch Farm

Rick woke up early in the morning. It was hard not to, as it seemed to be quite lively outside. He sat up on the old mattress, and stretched his arms as he tried to alleviate some of the pain and tension on his back. The mattresses at Vault 88 were far more comfortable than these so called beds. The vault’s mattresses had been in vacuum sealed storage containers. Why no one made new ones surprised him.

He hadn’t gotten a chance to see where he had arrived. After a long day he headed straight to this little guesthouse and rented a room. He grabbed his bag and headed for the hall. He looked down both ends and saw a room marked *Bathroom/Showers* and had the male symbol on it. He headed for the room and stepped inside. He cringed his nose at the smell; it definitely wasn’t Institute quality clean.

It dawned on him, he would now have to get used to such accommodations and quickly went about his business. After using the toilet and taking a quick ice cold shower, he left the guesthouse and found himself by the market of the settlement. It was quite busy as people were coming in and doing some shopping. He looked around and the vast array of vegetables surprised him.

He perused the various stands, and saw stopped at a clothing vendor. He saw a pair of blue jeans and some white undershirts that were his size and he decided to purchase them. To most this would seem like a mundane transaction but to Rick it was exciting making his first purchase. He would now get to buy clothes, rather than putting dirty clothes in hamper and retrieving clean clothes from a freshly stocked communal bin.

As he walked around he spotted a pair of sunglasses. *These glasses look similar to the ones X1-25 used to wear while deployed to the field.* He purchased them and put them on. It wasn’t a sunny day, but he liked the way they looked. He made his way to some caravans, and heard them talk about heading to Salem. He had read of the small town from early reports, about a town, but where only one man was left, rest had been killed or left.

However, from the sounds of it, peoplpe were settling there again. It piqued his interest, he had option of staying at Finch Farm or head for a new settlement. He tapped them man that seemed to be leading his caravan, "I'm sorry, I heard you're headed for Salem, can I accompany you on the trip?"

"I dunno kid, we aint in the protection racket. But can't stop you from trailing us. Just make sure you know how to use that gun of yours."

"Don't worry I know how," Replied Rick as he adjusted the straps on his backpack, "Name's Rick."

"Daniel Finch, just try and keep up. It's about 2 hour walk, but we try to move quickly and get there sooner."
----------------------------------------------------
Daniel wasn't kidding when he said they moved quickly. They were close to jogging not walking. At least it was a steady pace, and rick was able to tail along. The stillness of the Commonwealth was almost palpatable, for the most part it was dead silent aside from the sound of the wagon wheels and their footsteps.

Rick could see a lighthouse closing up in the distance, but rather than head straight, they made their way leftward, and away from the main road. Instead of jogging, they slowed down and were careful. It seemed the area was well known for raids. They passed the area as quietly and as quickly as possible. Soon they were back on the road to Salem.

They were close to the Museum of Witchcraft, and oddly enough a growling sound emanated from the inside. Daniel looked back at Rick, "Stay away from there, some terrible Joojoo in there."

Rick nodded, but he stopped in his track and looked to the northwest. A strange pull called to him in the distance. He looked back at Daniel, "Thanks for the company. But this is where we part ways."

"Good luck, and remember stay out of that building." Daniel shouted back as he continued on his way.

Rick continued in the direction of the pull, and soon found himself outside an old quarry, a place called Dunwich Borers. He carefully made his way forawrd, but there didn't seem to be anyone there. He got on all fours and carefully made his way to the edge. He looked around him again to make sure no one was around then looked down.

He could hear slight chanting of sorts, and a group of hooded people stood at the bottom of the deep pit. He couldn't make out what they were saying but they congregated among something, but he couldnt make out what it was. He jumped to the walked way below him and quietly began to make his way down to get a closer view.

He was closer now, and there appeared to be two groups. One group off to the side, was using the machinery to continue digging, the other group was before a monolith of some sort, a small obelisk much like the one located in Bunker hill, but it was roughly 12 ft tall, and looked like it had been dragged there. Whatever the hooded men chanted, he couldn't understand. However, every so often he felt a wave or pull coming from the obelisk.

He had enough and started to make his way back up. As he left, he heard shouting, and he looked back. Hooded men and woman started to give chase and they were beginning to pull out weapons. Rick started to run, and he pulled his bag forward and opened it. He pulled two plasma cells from his pack, and quickly zipped it and put it back on.

He grabbed the cells and smashed one and pulled some filament and wrapping from one and released it. He wrapped the other cell with the metal copper with the positive side facing negative and vice versa. He tied the fillament and soon the cell began to get hot, and very quickly too. He reached the top, and quickly he threw it down on the landing below. As soon as it hit landing, a sizeable explosion emanated, and the the planks collapsed.

He had prevented them from chasing him for the time being. He continued running south as fast as he could and not looking back. Whatever he had seen was not normal, and whatever it was no one would believe.
and more General plots will be seen very soon but as stated before it's is up to you whether or not you go along with it. Don't want to force anyone into anything. This is about writing and having fun while doing so within a fallout universe
@Stitchesthats correct. We are going freeform, you can form own path. No one is beholden to just one path. You can go on as many or as few arcs as you want. As long as you're respectful of everyone you'll be fine. Town will always be here for you to come and take a load off as you rp

Ace Makovich - Diner

The woman replied in a croaky and sullen voice. "Not that I know of, they thought I was dead..." She tried to laugh. "...They're gonna wish they were right once I'm done with 'em," She slurred her last few word. Ace nodded, and she continued “Very hospitable, for a wastelander," she noted idly. "I hope your 'friends' are as nice as you are."

“Well just wanted make sure to see whether or not we should ready ourselves for a raid, can’t be too careful, especially out here.” Ace replied, “As far as Barney, the old man, he’s alright. It of an ass, plenty of attitude but he keeps folk in line. Besides he’s only getting the doctor.”

Ace looked over the woman in front of him. It seemed her attackers had it easy, as she wore no armor. What caught his attention was the rifle she carried, it was an Institute rifle. Clearly it had been modified. That in itself might be a beacon for someone to attack. Most still remain wary of anything institute related, even though they had been destroyed two years ago.

The woman looked a bit dazed, as she looked around as she asked where she was located. “You’re in Salem, small town north of Boston area. More mirelurk in the surrounding area than people, plus we have a Children of Atom infestation to the southeast.”

As Ace answered the question, Steve walked in and referred to him as Acey. That was his childhood nickname, and he hated it. His face probably showed as much. Ace walked back behind the counter and grabbed two mugs. As he poured Steve a cup he responded, “Unless you’re my mother, don’t call me Acey.”

Steve looked at the injured woman, “Another one? This is why I said the clinic should be moved to the first floor...." he sighed "I’ll carry you up there after I’ve had my coffee. “

Ace shook his head as he placed a mug and poured her some coffee, “What do you mean another one? Besides, no need to carry anyone. I sent Barney to go get the doc, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves.” As Ace stood there speaking to Steve, brandy walked in, setting her bag at the counter. He looked back at Steve, “By the way, there was some guy inquiring about the horse last night. I’d be careful if I was you.”

As he said that to Steve, Brandy made her way over and introduced herself to the new guest. Ace felt Brandy was too trusting in people. Seeing them all as good, that is until they point a gun in your face. After all, the first thing Ace did when she walked in was to click the safety off on his pistol. Brandy excused herself, headed to the counter and motioned for Ace to come over.

Ace walked over and she leaned in and asked him how breakfast was, “It was good, though eggs were burnt around the edges… Though I think we should talk about a certain someone breaking in, you could’ve just left note to come over, and I would’ve happily obliged…By the way, when you leave a place you’ve broken into, make sure to lock door on your way out. Also, i was just joking about flowers and chocolates but now that you mention it... no need to worry about such trivialities.”

She mentioned a sign on top of the diner. Ace thought for a bit and aside from the diner sign, he couldn’t remember one being up there. Ace inquired as to what it said, and as soon as she told him, his eyes widened and he looked over at Steve. Ace wasn’t so mad at the fact, steve had put the sign, but the fact that he was up on his roof.

Brandy walked over to Steve to confront him over the sign. Ace reached for his pocket, pulled the tine out and took one of the pills. He placed it back in his pocket and walked over o where Brandy was, “You put that sign on the roof of the diner? Do you own this diner? Did you ask Ace? Because it wasn’t up there earlier when I was here. That is unacceptable, go put that on you…Pleasure Den. That sign will make people leave, and what if they have children huh? You freely advertise drugs and other nasty things right there for everyone to see? That’s just wrong, you need to take that off of Ace’s diner…RIGHT NOW!!! It’s disgusting.”

“Whoa, hold on a minute there. No one is going back up there yet. First of all you could’ve inquired before putting a sign on my roof. What if you had fallen? I’ve been meaning to reinforce it, and last thing I need is someone walking up there.” Ace said as he stood next to Brandy and placed his hands on her shoulders.

He kissed her cheek, “Now you need to calm down, okay? Frown lines don’t suit that pretty face of yours. Don’t worry I’m sure Steve and I will come to an understanding.”
@Fathomless Well you can come on the discord channel and ask for some advice, may be easier than here

Ace Makovich - Diner
Ace grabbed an old mug and poured himself a cup of coffee. He took one of the papers and started to read it. He flipped through the book as he sipped on the coffee and ate the eggs. It was a quiet morning, or at the very least not many had woken up. Publik Occurrences was now a weekly newspaper, and thanks to Piper expanding operations, one could read up on news from various settlements.

Starlight City seemed to be a busy place, lots of ads from businesses there. If people grew tired of Diamond City they could go to Starlight. It was a safe settlement, but it was a cutthroat place. It was a prime caravan hub where almost anything could be found and bartered for in the City. He had only been to Starlight City once for a brief visit. It wasn’t as big as it is now. What made them stand apart from most settlements, were the towers. There were plenty of multi-story towers in the center of town that rose above everything and where a lot of people lived. Settlements tended to be 2-3 stories high; the tallest building in Starlight had 8 stories and the entire top floor was owned by the ‘mayor’.

As ace was reading the door to the diner opened and Barney walked in. Ace looked at him, “leave the door open, need to air the place out of your stench. By the way I went to Finch Farm, Abby wants her husband’s gun.”

“Only stench here is your so called food,” Barney replied as he took a seat by the counter. He lit his pipe a motioned for a cup of coffee, “I finished modifying the Captain’s gun. I’ll ask Tom to drop it on his way back.”

Ace poured a fresh cup for Barney, “No need for that. Daniel will be stopping by to drop off some supplies I requested. You can hand it to him.”

As Ace spoke to Barney, someone new walked into the diner. She looked a mess, and to be in bad shape. Ace slid his hand to his pistol and took the safety off. He nodded to Barney to look her way, and they stared as she took a seat. On closer look Ace could see she was bloodied up. “Go get the doc. I’ll see if I can help her.” Ace told Barney as he grabbed some rags and a glass. He poured some water, and headed over to her placing the glass in front of her, and handed her the rags.

Barney headed out for the church to get the doctor. Ace went over to the fridge and grabbed a lump of ice and placed it in another rag. He handed it the woman, “Are you okay ma’am? I sent the old man to get the co for you… Can you tell me one thing? Is trouble following you?”
Rick Noel - Day Before - Commonwealth

Rick had been advised to head to a place called Atomics Cats Garage. As instructed he avoided the main road that led close to Quincy, as the people that lived there were very hostile and attacked strangers on sight. It was odd being out on the surface, but exhilarating at the same time.

As he approached the garage, Rick was left in awe. He finally got to how cool and amazing power armor looked like. The towering men that walked around in their armors looked so amazing, especially with the paint scheme of black paint with flames

Rick tried asking questions, but he was mostly ignored as he wasn’t “cool” enough for them. He wanted to stay for a while longer, but the barge was about to leave. He paid the bargeman 15 caps, and he agreed to take Rick to The Castle.

The man pointed at other large barges headed for the garage, “Those be retrieval barges. They are still retrieving valuable loot from where that big airship crashed a few years ago. Minutemen send what they find to the Atom Cats and they get it in working shape again. Hell, they even bury any bodies they find, and send the dog tags by courier to the Tin heads in Washington.”

Rick looked closely at barge and it seemed to be carrying what looked like power armors and computer terminals. *These ‘cats’ must be skilled if they can get stuff like that to work again.* Rick sat down on the floor of the barge, leaning against some barrels and looked through the bag. In it was a pair of clothes, ammo boxes and a bag filled with surface-dwellers currency of caps. How these bottle caps are treated as currency, baffled Rick.

These bottle caps he had were from recycled drinks used at the main cafeteria. Facilities created for the bottled drinks produced by the cafeteria. Also, they were produced to provide to agents, one of the evacuees was smart enough to grab one of the cap presses from the institute, and now they were able to make their own. They would make new caps look worn and then provide them to field agents. It made getting supplies easier.

The bare moved at a steady pace across the water. Rick leaned close to the edge and looked at the water. He saw some small fish swimming but for the most part it was slightly murky.

“Hey, watch it kid. You never know when something might jump on. Always have to be careful on the water.” Shouted one of the crew members towards Rick. Rick nodded and sat down by the barrels again, this time with his rifle in hand, just as a precaution.

The ride wasn’t too long, roughly half hour, which was better than the over two hour journey on foot. He disembarked on the docks located outside the fort walls. He craned his heat to see the top of the wall. He was amazed such a structure still existed in the surface world. There was a small gate close to the dock, from the looks it wasn’t the main entrance. On top of the wall there were two guard stations along with some turrets. By the door there was a guard station with a sign that said all visitors must check in.

Rick waited in the small line and when it was his turn he was asked to open his bag for inspection. He had to check in his weapons and was told they’d be available either at this gate or main gate, depending on his choice. He said he’d like to check out at the main gate.

“Kid…What’s this?” One of the guard asked when he handed in his institute pistol.

Rick kept a straight face, “Oh, I got that from Cricket. Had to save quite bit to get it.”

“Damn. Why cant she ever have this when she comes for a visit? I always miss out on good shit like this.” Said the guard as he tagged the weapons with his number, and handed rick a slip to retrieve them. Rick was made to stand with legs apart and another guard checked for weapons and let him through. The inside of the fort was bustling with activity. Most of those present were in uniform, but there were quite a bit of outsiders as well.

You could see along the walls were new concrete had been poured to replace broken down sections. Rick was familiar with it, as a lot of the stone obtained was from the quarry above the vault. Allie Filmore, who had become the new Director, made sure that the settlers above for the most part donate the stone to The Castle as an act of goodwill and to keep them away. In the main courtyard, there was a training ground for new recruits, as well as pens for Brahmin. There was a small barn with a sign that said Caravan housing. That’s where traders and their Brahmins, apparently spent the night.

Another building nearby was taller than the wall by two floors. It was an inn of sorts for visitors. It was meant for non-Minutemen personnel. Rick didn’t enter the inner portion of the fort as access was restricted except to a clinic of sorts. He was warned to be wary of surface doctors or butchers as they were called in the Institute.

He headed up the wall and above were a series of shacks and crops. They very smartly used the available space topside for crops. From atop the wall he had a great view of the Boston skyline. As he stood there someone approached him, “So Son, you signing up to the Minutemen? You get 3 square meals, boarding, a cap allowance, plus you get to know you are making a difference in the Commonwealth.”

Rick looked at the man next to him. He had a tan duster with a typical minuteman hat and carried what looked like to be a musket over his shoulder. “No sir, can’t say I am. I’m headed up north, along the coast. Just waiting for nightfall to make it past the city ruins, visiting some family I have up there.”

“That’s too bad, could always use a new recruit, always a settlement out there that needs our help. I can help you with your trip, in an hour a barge is leaving for Finch Farm. Get on it and you should get there by nightfall. Believe me…you don’t want to be walking into the city tonight.”

The man tipped his hat and walked away. Rick headed down as well, he figured he’d check out the surrounding area while waiting for the barge. He approached the main gate and it was huge, as tall as the wall. It slid on a rail as it opened up. What amazed him even more was the fact there were two gates, one on each side of the wall. There was a small building next to the gate by the Brahmin pit, and it was where weapons were housed for visitors.

As he waited for his guns, a large number of Minutemen were walking through the gate. They were geared up with weapons and packs. They were marching in formation. As soon as he had his weapon he followed behind. The man that asked him about recruitment was standing on a guard post in front of the gate, reviewing the troops. They were marching into the city along the main highway. *I pity whoever they are facing.*

As he walked towards the dock located by the main gate, he asked one of the guards about the man in the tan overcoat, “That is Colonel Garvey, Preston Garvey, he along with the General lead minutemen. Taking this detachment into the city. God help the sonofbitches on the other end.”

Rick watched as they disappeared into the distance. Before he knew it, it was time for the barge to depart. He told them Garvey told him about Finch Farm, so they let him aboard for free. He found a small corner by some crates and sat down and took a nap. It was about a 2-3 hour trip to Finch Farm.

He was woken up by a crew member. Rick groggily made his way onto land and didn’t pay attention to his surroundings. He found a place where he could rent a room for the night, and made his way to the room. He was exhausted.
