Humanity continues to advance. From the shores of Europe to the Coast of Japan, humans continue to live on, and with this living comes both advancements in the fields of society and technology. This unending progress is both humanity’s greatest strength, but also it's folly.
However, not all is as it seems. Though the modern day has continued onwards in a predictable manner, the technology of man progressing, in its background are the forces of the Moonlit World battle in the twilight of Man, shadowed by a dusk interested in keeping such forces out of the minds of the contemporary man.
To the east, in the state of Japan, there is a city by the name of Fuyuki. While its leylines can be called commendable, it is truly nothing altogether special; indeed, in the eyes of such individuals as the Lords of the Mage’s Association, it is little more than a magical backwater. The three families of magi who stand guard over its spiritual land are known as the Tohsaka, the Matou and the Einzbern. Regardless, they house a backwater tournament; The Holy Grail Wars.
Reputable mages see it as a nothing worth their time, hardly anything to care about. However, even within this mostly unordinary tournament, there appears to be something … foreboding about it. Both the mage’s association and the church seem to be waiting for something. Could there be more to this battle than first meets the eye?
The year is 2004, and It is an honor to announce that the Fifth War for the 726th Holy Grail has begun.
---------------------------------------
If you clicked on this, you're presumably familiar with what this means. Welcome to Holy Grail War set within the Nasuverse/Fate series. While we will be working off of the mechanics of the Nasuverse, there's no need to be an expert on the topic, and I'm happy to help any of those with less familiarity with the franchise. That said, you should have at least some knowledge of the series, whether it be through Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night, or even Fate/Grand Order. Familiarity with works by Type-Moon outside of the Fate/ series is useful but not as integral.
This war will take place in Fuyuki, Japan in 2004. It's good to know that, due to certain circumstances of the war, the usual cap of seven Servants and Masters has been lifted. We will begin with a functional cap of two Servants per class (ie two Sabers, two Archers, and so on) to ensure that there's some balance, though. In the unlikely scenario that we get a huge amount of applicants, though, this will change. These Servants, similar to within the confines of Fate/Apocrypha, will be denoted by a color of their given group. Ie Saber of Red, Archer of Black, Etc.
I'll put CSs up as well as some general guidelines and such if there's enough interest. If you have any additional questions, please let me know~!
------------------------------------------
Rules:
Respect other people's opinions because at the end of the day they are merely opinions. Though I would like to see a competitive side to those involved in the roleplay, at the end of the day it is a roleplay and most people likely joined to have fun. Shitslinging is entertaining, but I doubt that people would want to fight over trivial things. I will do my best to arbitrate these conflicts.
No godmodding, autohitting or being a generally bad roleplayer. Every action needs a reaction and vice versa, even if the situation seems grim. Everyone deserves a shot to make a case, after all~. In addition to this, only post with the knowledge that your character knows within the in character tab; metagaming is pretty lame and I would prefer it if we would avoid this at any cost.
No being rude OOC. Characters may be rude to other characters. That is something that could occur. In addition, OOC feuds, if they should arise, should have their best to not make their way into the IC and vice versa.
Note that this is a battle. People will die, especially when they are killed.
There will be a hard limit of two servants and two masters per player at any given time, and it is expected that one is to create a servant per master and vice versa, as to not have an excess during pairings. In the event a Master or Servant is to be killed, as this is a war, it is possible to app another Master or Servant respectively. I would not suggest the recently apped character to have a vendetta against the character who had killed your character though, as that tends to be lame, unless consent is given by the owner of said character you wish to vendetta.
There can be many summonings within the roleplay, and a Master could potentially summon more Servants in the event his is to bite the dust, and a Servant, in the event there is an open Master laying about when his Master is to die, they could also form a contract.
One could not possibly have more than a single Servant at any given time. Resummoning a Servant will take a Command Seal, and one can only have three, unless it is given to them or they have a magecraft that would allow for such a feat.
Your posts are entirely based on your character's perspective. Your character may be wrong; however, it is up to subsequent posters to correct you if you are wrong. You can write in your post that you have knowledge of a magecraft your character clearly doesn’t, but that doesn’t mean you actually used said magecraft in the grand scheme of the roleplay.
:
Battles have a “turn system” where individuals in the battle must all have made a post before the battle can proceed. Individuals who do not post within a two day period of the previous post will have their turn forfeit and the fight to continue, though I do warn you about the potential dangers of sitting in the middle of a fight against a Magus and a Servant with your thumbs twiddled behind your back. This is mostly circumstantial. If a legitimate reason for absence is presented, I shall consider extending the time as needed, or GM ruling certain situations. But do not be afraid to request leave. Personal business happens. We are all human, after all~.
No alliances with characters you control, nor may you have a Servant who you control be under a Master you control. In addition to this, a character cannot take an item from a character you control, even if they have died.
Things such as Military Tactics will have their amplifiers taken into account when against something of equal rank. As an example, this means Iskander's Military Tactics won't help him beat Excalibur, but it will help him beat Bellerophon.
Servant stats and skills are adjusted according to the Master. A ginger-haired kid with no knowledge of magecraft and a bunch of fake circuits will bring even the most reputable of servants down a peg, whereas a well-bred magus can bring out the best in a Servant.
Canon Servants are allowed. Some Canon Servants are not allowed due to either 1) fundamentally breaking the grail war (Gilgamesh) or 2) Not eligible for summoning unless the world is ending (A lot of Servants from GO). If you have a question as to if a canon Servant is allowed, please message me or whoever is the sad sack that I may or may not appoint as a mod.
Non-Canon Servants must be approved by a moderator or administrator before placing them in the accepted thread. In addition to this, Canon servants will be limited to two noble phantasms for the most part, though it is uncommon for a Servant to have more than a single noble phantasm.
It's also worth noting that we're sticking to the standard seven Classes, so no Shielders or Gunners or whatever. There might be unorthodox NPC Servants though~.
Masters must be approved before submission via posting it in the OOC with an @ for myself and all moderators. Though canon individuals from the Nasuverse will be allowed, all masters must not exceed the power of Ciel in terms of combat for simple balancing. Also no guns allowed.
Entering the war, unless someone apps a magus with a very strong lineage or something, in which case such a Master's profile is public knowledge, Masters will not know each others' identities. I will inform you if your application will be such a "Known" Master.
Master's Clairvoyance can be used to get a Servant's information. Looking at them with it active is enough to get their parameters. Knowing their class gets you Class Skills. You get Personal Skills by seeing them in action or being told about it, and the same is true for active Noble Phantasms. For passive Noble Phantasms, you generally need to have all of a Servant's Personal Skills' information and also have seen the passive effect of, but this will be determined on a case-by-case basis. When you have a Noble Phantasm's full information, you acquire the Servant's name as well. If you have the Servant's name, whether deducing it through the above or through being directly told it, then you get the information of their full profile.
The basics that anyone with a well-rounded education ought to know, unless they weren't paying attention in class or something. Including "General Magecraft" in the magecraft section means they get all of this. If not, they don't.
Magecraft Shields: Varying forms of protection; however, one’s senses are raised. Eg, protection against suffocation will increase sense of smell, and protection from blindness will make your eyes water.
Nightvision: Self-explanatory.
Basic Familiar Creation: Creation of familiars. These are basic, so they cannot employ speech, magecraft, or combat ability.
Formalcraft: Using catalysts and magic circles to perform rituals. The bare minimum.
Basic Suggestion: Suggestion using the eyes to make magical energy flow into the target's body. This magical energy is stagnant.
Basic Bounded Fields: Creation of a Bounded Field that confers intruder alert, soundproofing, and control of the mana in its area.
Basic Bounded Field Removal: Removal of Bounded Fields that confer intruder alert, soundproofing, and control of the mana in its area.
Locking Doors: Self-explanatory.
Threads of Consciousness: Using one’s consciousness for scouting. Basic magus detection magecraft.
Floating: Basic manipulation of mass and air currents.
Transfer of Consciousness: Transferring one’s consciousness to a familiar, ergo seeing through their eyes.
Basic Clairvoyance: "X-Ray" vision and operation of a crystal ball.
Fixing Glass: Repairs broken glass, providing it was broken up to a couple of hours prior to the spell's use.
Mystic Pass: Self-Explanatory.
Contracting: Making a contract with something.
Curse of Self-Healing: Healing magecraft. Works by stimulating the cells and making them regenerate faster than normal. It is possible set as a program that activates when one is unconscious; however, it then becomes impossible to control how much prana is used.
-Normal talking is treated as a free action. -Single Action: E -One Count and Two Count: D -Three to Five Count: C -Six to Nine Count: B -Ten Count and Above: A -A Five Count will beat a Three Count. However, a C rank attack will nullify either. -It’s good to remember that for the purposes of time, two Single Actions take the same amount of time as a One Count. -Talking to activate a Command Seal or Noble Phantasm is treated as taking time equivalent to a One Count to activate.
Do not app any of the following. I've included the reasons for each, for clarity's sake:
Masters
Canon Masters: The history of this world is not what you know it as. Ask for explicit permission before using them if you really want to. Anyone Ciel-tier or Above in Combat: Balancing
Servants
Gilgamesh: Balancing. "Pre-Gilgamesh" heroes: They can't exist. Individuals born after 1899: Not eligible. Individuals still alive today in their mythology (Merlin, Hanuman, etc): Not eligible. Individuals without human blood: Largely not eligible. (Exceptions can potentially be made on a case-by-case basis) Canon Servants that we do not have full information for (ie, most of the Grand Order and Strange Fake cast): Obvious. Patriot Heroic Spirits (Koha-Ace): Obvious. Servants that are functionally just clones of canon Servants: Just app the canon, then, baka. Nursery Rhyme: Balancing. Lugh: Balancing. Imperial Privilege: It is bad and I hate it. Nero could be considered, however. Any Herc besides Berserker: Balancing. True Demons, Aliens, Eastern Dragons, Bodhisattvas, True Magicians, Holy Children, Etc: Balancing.
------------ Below you can find the character sheets. If you want to follow a different format per se than the character sheet (for instance, the "Keywords/Skills/Setting" matrix style from EXTRA), feel free so long as it contains all the information I've asked for.
Name/Title:
Gender: Don't be difficult.
Age:
Personality:
Appearance:
Biography:
Family History (if applicable): If the character comes from a magus family with a notable history, jot it down here.
Origin: The basis of your existence. Shirou Emiya's Origin of "Sword" and Souren Araya's Origin of "Stillness" are examples.
Elemental Affinity: Dual elements and Average Ones are fine, but rare. If your Elemental Affinity is not one of the Great Five Elements, your origin and element should be the same.
Number of Magic Circuits: E-A. No modifiers.
Quality of Magic Circuits: The amount of magical energy each single circuit can sustain. E-A. No modifiers.
Od: How much magical energy you can store in your body. E-A. No modifiers.
Magecraft: You can put systems, magecrafts, magecraft-related abilities like High Speed Aria, Magic Crest characteristics, family attributes, and individual spells in here. If something isn't here, it's assumed your magus doesn't know it. Literally everything should go here. The exception is that it is, however, assumed that anyone with a proper magus education (ie the Clock Tower or from a magus family) will know the basics such as fixing glass, locking doors, and so on that we're aware of in canon.
Equipment: Mystic Codes as well as mundane stuff. Everything they walk into the RP with. Unless you're really rich with an illustrious family backing you, you shouldn't have tons of Mystic Codes.
Skills: Cooking, stabbing, video games, whatever. If it isn't here and isn't something 99% of the global population can do (eg, breathing), then your character does not know it.
Name:
Class:
Gender:
Appearance:
Alignment:
Personality:
History: Mainly for flavor or to clarify how your version of them lived in the case of conflicting legends. Optional if everything in their history that you're using is on a wikipedia page or something.
Weapon: Whatever they're summoned with. This should include things like Medusa's pegasus that they can innately summon as well.
Parameters:
STR: Damage. A rank STR means one attack can destroy a small house.
CON: Damage one can take. How much HP one has.
AGI: Dexterity or reaction time.
MGI: How much prana one can handle.
LCK: Ability to defy fate.
Class Skills: For all skills your class has. Please do not just put name and rank. Give an explanation of what it does.
Personal Skills: Certain abilities a Heroic Spirit may have, such as Charisma, Artistic Talent, etc. Keep close to the legend; modifiers are temporary rank ups, not a rating of how good it is. Limit of three.
Noble Phantasm(s): Limit of one. Two if you’re incredibly persuasive.
Name:
Title: Stuff like Excalibur's "Sword of Promised Victory", the kanji.
Rank: E-EX. Plus modifiers are possible, but specify if they're temporary rank ups, or an indication of raw power.
Range: 1 is minimum, 99 is maximum. Format is usually something like 2-50, that's Via Expugnatio and Bellerophon's range. That means Via Expugnatio cannot attack you if your range is 1 from it.
Maximum Number of Targets: 1 to 1000. The format is usually a single number. This may get weird depending on your classification.
Specialization: Lightning - Valkyrie is able to utilize the specialization of “Lightning”. In addition to shooting lightning as a projectile from either her hand, or her weapon as an electric rod, she is able to internalize the effect within herself, firing it out at controlled bursts from her body to improve her overall speed and perception to be similar to the lightning itself.
Weapon: Baikal: A three-pronged long spear that Valkyrie is able to cast her lightning through. When in use, the blade seems as fast as the lighting Olesya uses.
Power: Focused Assault:: Olesya commits herself to a piercing shot. The skill has two uses, a ranged version used directly through her magicks, and a melee version, used through the weapon. The ranged attack deals an incredible multiple strike of lightning in the same location, originating from Valkyrie, and the melee version directly injects the target with an incredible blast of electricity, often frying them from the inside.
Perks: ,
Gifted: Olesya was born with an unnaturally high affinity for lightning. According to Yury, he expected it to take much longer for her to understand how the abilities work, and he tends to be surprised at the unique usages he never really considered for the ability.
Enhanced Weapon: The Baikal is a weapon blessed by the gods themselves. Yury claims it to give a person the ability to overcome any challenge, but Valkyrie pins it more to her skill than some weapon.
Training: Yury had taken years to train Valkyrie to be the greatest spearman in the world, at least in his eyes. By extension of this skill, she has a rather solid grasp of human anatomy, as do most who had trained their life with the sword.
Get out of Jail: When cornered, Olesya is able to escape captivity to a place that is safe.
Wings: A pair of bird-like wings are fixed to the back of the magical girl outfit, making Valkyrie seem almost angelic.
Patron: Yury
Patron Benefits: Focused- Yury is a spirit that was bound to a lake before meeting Olesya, but his knowledge of the element “Lightning” is both a boon to Olesya’s ability to control both the passive and active forms of the ability to extreme proficiency under his watchful gaze.
Subtle- though technically “flashy” in the sense it “produces a flash”, magic used by Odesya is less detectable.
Mental Link- A bond shared between a “Host” and “Parasite”. Complex nuances can be conveyed between one another almost instantaneously, including information about an opponent, observations one makes, and when eggs are going on sale at the supermarket.
Mana Font- Being constantly near Olesya gives her the ability to utilize the magic of Yury directly.
Patron Drawbacks: Limited-
Alien Mind: Just as the culture which prevaded itself as a spirit is unintelligible to a human, humanity’s culture is incomprehensible to it. Certain feelings are impossible to comprehend properly both ways between Olesya and Yury, though at the very least Olesya would imagine the two are relatively close from her perspective. The truth of this is to be seen.
Big Brother: Standardly seen within the confines of the locket upon Olesya’s neck, and demands to be brought with her anywhere she goes.Punishment tends to be severe in the event this rule is broken. Often comments on any situation Olesya finds herself within.
Formless: A bit of a misdemeanor. While technically without form, similarly to a ghost or spirit, Yury usually can possess inanimate objects; contains itself within a pendent around Olesya's neck. When the weapon is summoned, he is also able to possess such as well. It is unable to move things it possesses, but others are able to carry them around as they please.
Fighting Style: Utilizing her Focused Assault, Odesya is able to wither down an opponent while going for short, concise attacks aimed at vitals in order to eventually defeat someone. She would prefer if the first attack were to completely debilitate an opponent, though she is also skillful at more personal combat, being able to use both her speed brought upon by her specialization and her precision to attack both precisely and quickly, each attack aimed to end the fight.
Stats (Untransformed): These start at 3. CYOA options indicate if they apply out of costume as well. STR: 3 AGI: 5 VIT: 3 MAG: 3 LCK: 3
Personality: Olesya seems to take herself somewhat seriously, often taken as somewhat standoffish to others. Though in standard conversation she tends to come off as rather well-mannered, well-spoken and intelligent, her statements tends towards sardonic, which coupled with her lack of any real emotive projection in both her voice and facial features, leaves others to often misinterpret these statements hold some sort of truth rather than simple jokes or mockeries. Though she appears prideful, it isn’t really directed at anyone.
There doesn’t really exist a divide between the personalities of Olesya and the being known as “Valkyrie”. Perhaps Valkyrie is better suited as less of an “Alternate identity” and merely an extension of the previous personality.
Olesya describes herself as a coward, not afraid to retreat if the situation calls for it, in order to preserve herself. He who fights and runs away, may live to fight another day after all. But despite this, she tends to contradict this aspect often enough for it to be somewhat bunk in the long run of things. Perhaps it could be best described as a desire to avoid a direct sort of combat, though even she understands there are certain fights one must never run away from. Thought she would rather not see the mundane innocents involved in the affairs of the mystical, it isn’t as if those people truly matter to her.
History: War is hell. A war that pits together once countrymen, once townsmen, once family separated by lines that were only broken at the stem for a cause neither side fully understands. Torn from their homes, even children, hardly able to form opinions themselves, are branded by traitors by the victorious. The difference between a traitor and a hero is simply which side if the victor.
The retreating White Army upon the Great Siberian Ice March were forced to cross the frozen lake Baikal as they flee the pursuing soviet army upon the Trans-Siberian Railway. Olesya was the daughter and heiress of a Count loyal to the Romanovs after her father had fought as a commander for the Whites and had died when a stray bullet had killed him, But the overwhelming power of the Petrograd Soviets, and the lack of realistic support from the international community due to the events of the first world war seemed to spell an end for the tradition and pride the great Russian Empire had. After hearing what the Soviets had done to the entirety of the Royal family, surrender was not an option. It was either crossing out of the country by any means possible, or death.
The crossing of the lake, even for a man in full army winter gear, would be arduous, the frozen lake reaching temperatures below zero, iced over half the year. But it was either make the trek from the lake into manchukuo and seek refuge and political asylum from the Reds. Many froze to death, and many were left behind, unable to continue on and succumbing to the intense cold winters of the Eurasian steppes.
Unable to continue forward, the young now-Countess Olesya had collapsed on the ice of the lake. The cold was too much for her young body to handle. She should have died to the cold here, but for but a moment, she thought she saw something next to a jutting rock atop the frozen lake. A shimmer of something caught her eye, it’s light unlike anything she had ever seen before. But for whatever reason, this light gave the young Olesya but a sliver of strength to carry on. She believed it to be her father, calling her to the gates of heaven, but that is when she saw what was shining like the ether: a strange spear lodged in the ice at the base of the rise. Though something told Olesya that the spear was dangerous, her condition was hardly that of rationality, and with the first idea that came to her mind, she had taken the weapon from its icy hold.
At first, nothing happened. Of course nothing happened. It was just a spear. Weapons couldn’t hold any power. They were simply weapons of war. But the shining spear at least made what appeared to be the final moments of her short life.
… But that didn't happen.
Instead, warmth surrounded her. And before her, a being claiming to be a “God or something” asked if she wished to be his champion, or die in the tundra. With a new chance at life discovered, she had accepted his offer.
Incantation: Who to us with a sword will come - that from a sword will perish!
Additional Info: Olesya tends to enjoy more romantic pieces, her favorite ballet being Swan Lake, as she remembers being captivated by the ballet she had seen with her father all those years ago.
Type: Lesser Force
Name: Yury
Personality: Yury is best described by Olesya as an “high-functioning dumbass”. Not really understanding how humanity interacts with one another, lessons about love and valor tend not to come from him. But what he does understand is magic, and it’s applications to the world. However, that doesn’t mean that Yury hasn’t been trying to get adjusted to the current state of culture, such as “not pillaging and raping the cities of your rivals”, but it took several years after reawakening to discover this fact.
Yury claims to be somewhat doting and seems to enjoy the company of Olesya, even though the two tend to bicker between one another.
History: A nameless spirit that Olesya found within the great Lake Baikal during her trot through it with the remnants of the White Army during their retreat from the Reds inside of a Spear upon a jutting rock. Though Yury claims to not remember much about what he was doing there, trapped inside of the spear waiting for an individual to interact with the spear, it isn’t as if he seems like a bad guy. He claims that the last time he was awake in the world, there was a great warlord in the lands south of the lake. The two have been a pair for nearly 100 years, often bickering with one another, though Olesya claims it mostly to be a “friendly banter” rather than anything serious. It is also noted that Yury was named by Olesya, as he knew not the concept of a name, which was the name of her father; the pendant which Yury inhabits happens also to be a pendent with a picture of Olesya’s father as well.
Resources: There isn’t a lot that Yury could really offer Olesya, aside from his magical power and knowledge, as he is a spirit. Most of the money came from the liquidizing of Olesya’s assets, and the two, which in reality is just Olesya seeing as Yury is a spirit.
Additional Info: Yury seems to dislike the cold; ironic considering he was found on the surface of a frozen lake.

Maria followed the others as they moved from the yard into the mansion. After all, a simple meeting was all Maria really wished to have with Vesta, but drama and the presence of other individuals seemed to change the overall objective of her meeting. Through and through, it was still a meeting, regardless of the changes.
A server had brought out foods and the like for the group. Perhaps unlike someone who claims to be a knight, Maria seemed to have a weakness against sweets and the like. Perhaps she would be a glutton if her duty to the sword was more important to her than any other indulgence, but that did not stop her desires from occasionally slipping through.
Taking some tea, which was served in expensive-looking porcelain cups, and a sweet to herself, Maria relaxed for a moment.
Maria couldn’t help but stifle her laughter at the ponderous, yet simple nature of the demi-human child who had walked into the area, not unlike a small animal’s thought process, she had seemed to enjoy the sweets prepared by Vesta.
Though she was suspicious about the nature of the child, a kid couldn't cause too much harm, right? Of course, looks can be deceiving, but Maria was willing to overlook this fact, so long as she didn’t step too far out of line.
“I guess she doesn't understand us,” Maria commented with another laugh as Vesta was referred to as “Demi”, as if it was her name or something. Though it likely more so directed at Vesta’s reduction of her outward coldness she normally displays to others, broken by something Maria also considers “cute”. Maybe, by that metric, Maria wasn’t too away from her older sister’s footsteps, humanizing something Maria admires.
“Elanil,” Maria said slowly as she pointed towards Elanil, enunciating the word slowly as she dropped down to her knee to an eye level with the young child.
“Maria.”
Maria did the same, this time pointing towards herself.
“Vesta.”
“Heinrich.”
“Alexander.“
She continued to do this to introduce those who were in the room. Perhaps the girl would at least be able to understand who one another were. Though if she didn’t know how to properly speak, perhaps she spoke a different language? Perhaps she was farther than how than what Maria would be willing
“I heard there is an epidemic. Individuals from foreign lands getting abducted and brought here. I know not what for, but I’ve had several run ins with smugglers trafficking on the back roads. Maybe that has something to do with this child.”
Maria took a scoop of sugar with a silver spoon, spinning the powdery substance into her tea in a swirling motion. Shortly after she she poured some of the milk in a silver saucer provided by the maid prior, coalescing into a somewhat sweeter tea than most others might wish to have, though Maria wasn’t completely averse to such a taste or texture.
“The problem is with a child though, is that I know not where she comes from, nor the language she understands. If she was with her parents, I could leave it as so, but alone and so far away from her home, it would be irresponsible to leave her by herself. The question is … what would be do with her?”
Though Maria was sure that the people around her had not given the extent of thought into the subject that she would have hoped for, she had experience in this field. After all, she was a knight. If a missing girl wasn’t something she could handle, what good were the knights to begin with?
“I could likely use the knights to help find her family if she still has any; the Iron Bell are here to protect the laws of this land and those whom fall under its jurisdiction. But until they find them, or if they don't find them, what would we have us do? Your father cares not for Demi-kind, Vesta, and I am not sure about the other two, but they don’t really look like they want to look after a child yet. I could take her with me, but I am busy with my work a lot of the time, and the only place i could keep her is in a military installation. That being said, there are orphanages that daddy… I mean that father influences in the capital I could bring her too as well.”
Personality: One could consider therein to exist a divide between the individual known as ”Kazuko” and the avatar known as “Elys”. Kazuko tends to be reserved, shy, and keeps her gaze downtrodden.. There are few times when Kazuko leaves the safety of her room, snuggled away in her blankets and playing video games being her sole pleasure in her existence.
Perhaps it has been more than a month or so as the teen had not shown up for any of her classes, accepting the lifestyle of a NEET to her own, if begrudgingly. Littered within her room are various degrees of instant foods. The only thing that really sticks out aside from her varying degrees of foodstuffs not yet thrown away, collected and forgotten about, would be her NerveGear headset, a drawing pad where she makes lewd drawing to sell to buy her games, and a lamp, of which she hardly uses, her eyes naturally adjusted to the dark of her room. Her bed remains mostly unused, more often than not passing out from exhausting upon her desk rather than any sort of regulated sleeping, from her consistent press towards her online games.
Her single mother often attempts to force her out of her room, though after seeing the state of her daughter a few times, she believes it might be for the best that she grows out of her phase naturally, though she had cut off her spending money.
There once existed a, although not really a ray of sunshine, a rather content girl, who simply wished to finish school and live a quiet life. Though the previous dream might be dead, at least she could “live” her life, barely scraping by through her art. One could not really call this a “life”, staying herself in the depths of her delusions and escapism, but at the very least Kazuko believes it much better than putting up with the constant and consistent belittling, and the lack of disciplinary action against those who had wronged her. At least, in the world of her games, she could pretend to be someone else. Someone with the power to prevent others from belittling her to this extent.
Elys, the pseudonym Kazuko uses as her avatar in most games, tends to on the scale of bombastic, suave, and stylish, and never averting their gaze from what is before them, often more than not taking on the role of a leader. The sort of person who would never let another insult her, nor insult those she cares about. The sort of person strong enough, at least on outward appearance, who could easily brush away inconveniences and focus on what matters the most to them at a given time. They will say what they are feeling, never bottling up their emotions like Kazuko would in her average day when she had went to school.
However, there is also another key difference and that Elys tends not to be a female, but rather a male. Perhaps this is due to some sort of idealization of what she believes a male to be, often brazen and the first into battle, and often utilizing crude language styles, even within voice communications, through various degrees of filters and the like. Or perhaps something deep within Kazuko wishes for companionship similar to Elys, given that her first “relationship” ended with pretty steady disaster.
In the world where an individual’s appearance is copied and displayed for the gamers to see after the realization of their folly with purchasing a [shitty game] death game, Elys and Kazuko will have to find a balance between one another.
Background: High school is a time for change in everybody’s life.. Those fortunate enough, or with enough investment, to have been able to obtain a position at a reputable school, one’s future could be guaranteed so long as they continue trying. But this was not the case for Kazuko.
Though she was never really one for social interaction, there was no reason why anyone in class would even look towards the teen. They simply did as they were told; went to school, were moderately successful at exams, and they were not in a club. Though not unpopular, she didn’t seem to have many friends either. Overall, an uninteresting individual who seemed they could not draw the ire or favor of many around her, aside from teachers and staff for her respectful demeanor.
Perhaps this simplicity is what drew a rather unsavoury individual to her presence. A senior, a year ahead of her, had eyed her with less-than-savoury eyes; upon an incident in which the man had tried to pressure the underclassman into a position she felt less comfortable with, as if a flight or fight response, Kazuko struck the senior with all the strength she could muster and ran away.
She had wished this would be the end to the issues, an end to her problem. But unfortunately for her, the boy had in his youthful brashness spread ill-spirited rumors about a supposed relationship between the two.
Included in this was the girlfriend of the senior, a fellow classmate of Kazuko, who had made it her goal now to strike out against the innocent girl for her rumored actions to seduce her boyfriend.
It did not take long for the signs to begin. At first, there existed a few absences here and there, which due to their sporadic nature could have been written off as a cold, but these assumed hardly connected absences began appearing more frequently, to the point where in her second year of school, Kazuko refused to go to classes anymore.. With no one to rely on, her fragile friends abandoning her, and the berating she received through a chance interaction she had no control over, there was nothing to her in school aside from misery.
Instead, she placed herself into the digital world. A world where she could pretend to be anyone she wanted; someone who unlike her plot in life could have agency over her interactions, and could meet friends without the negative stigma of her name being attached to any interactions she came across. In addition to this, despite being a girl, Kazuko tends to create male avatars in her games, often getting into relationships with female in-game characters, whom she attempts to romance to the best of her ability as she believes another girl would wish to be taken.
