Sergeant Alvar (far left) and some of his squadmatesAppearance: Eduard stands 5’10” tall and has a fairly slender build. While not particularly strong or athletic, he meets the requirements, and that’s what matters. He has brown eyes and his blond hair is kept shaved and usually covered by the blue United Nations cap he wears in lieu of a PASGT ballistic helmet. He wears a woodland pattern Estonian Digital Camouflage Uniform (ESTDCU) as well as a tactical vest overtop bright UN blue body armor. His weapon, an unmodified Swedish-made AK4 rifle, is kept slung at his side at all times.
Name: Sergeant Eduard Alvar
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Nationality: Estonian
Occupation and Rank: Sergeant assigned to the Scouts Battalion, Estonian Defense Forces
Psyche:
To most people, Eduard is calm, collected, and an asshole. He maintains his cool in stressful situations and never does anything without thinking it through. He leads his men in an almost methodical manner. Eduard doesn’t talk much, but when he does, he tends to piss people off. He speaks his mind, usually ignoring the consequences of his words and not giving a damn what other people might think of his opinions. This, coupled with his tendency to overlook or ignore suggestions and ideas he deems stupid or unnecessary tends to get him in hot water with his superiors.
In regards to the current situation in Valverde, Sergeant Alvar isn’t very optimistic. The war knocking on the peacekeeper’s front door isn’t exactly what he expected when he was deployed, and he is definitely regretting it. Personally, he doesn’t care about Ochoa or why they need to protect him, he wants to get out alive, preferably with as few friendly casualties as possible.
History:
Eduard was born in 1992 in the town of Viljandi, Estonia. He and his two sisters were raised by middle-class, Orthodox Christian parents. He and his siblings went through primary schooling, and upon graduation, his sisters moved on to attend the Viljandi Culture Academy. However, due to the country’s compulsory military service, Eduard was conscripted into the Estonian Defense Forces in 2010 (at the age of 18) and entered junior NCO training. He served the required eleven months for non-commissioned officers, and after completing it, Eduard decided to continue as professional soldier, rather than becoming a reservist and seeking secondary or vocational education.
In 2012, his platoon was among the Estonian contingent deployed to Afghanistan to support British Forces. It was here that Eduard experienced a combat environment for the first time while serving in the defense forces, although his experience was somewhat limited. During this time, Eduard received a promotion to the rank of sergeant and assumed leadership of an infantry squad.
Upon returning from his deployment in Afghanistan, Eduard was transferred to the Kalev infantry battalion to assist in training new conscripts and professional soldiers to serve as reserve mechanized infantry and international peacekeepers. When the opportunity for another international deployment arose, he quickly requested a transfer.
