Accessories are the delight of a GM. Innate abilities are the bane of a GM.

Weapons and equipment can be lost, stolen, malfunction, jammed, possessed, depowered, have a limited number of charges or other limitations.

Innate abilities rarely have any of those limitations. Maybe sometimes they'll get depowered or the character may get winded but that's about it. This gives the GM less options in his or her storytelling.

You could probably still make the characters, but instead let the powers of the weapon be the powers of your characters.
I mean, I get that an ichigo(bleach) or guts(berserk) character needs their weapons to be utmost effective, but they can/could survive a fight without them?

@Metalgearsolid

Wow. Metal Gear Solid. I haven't done that sort of plot-line in a long time. I once had a Gurlukovitch Soldier in just such a RPG. I was somewhat late to the party so all the cool characters had already been taken.

During the Big Shell Incident I was stationed in the submarine dock and was having a cigarette, dangling my bare feet over the water when Solid Snake sneaked in. He choked me unconscious, knocking one of my boots into the water, stole my pistol, stuffed me in a locker and moved on.

Later I was discovered by my fellow mercenaries and reassigned to guard the hostages. I messed with one of them, an aide or something, maybe named Jennifer, until my commanding officer got fed up and had me patrol the corridors instead. I padded around barefoot through the Big Shell for a while as Solid Snake had lost one of my boots. Eventually, Meryl Silverbough who was in the game, despite not being present for the Big Shell incident, was moving through the station heard me whistling and stood flush against the wall where the corridors intersected. She stepped out as I passed and snapped my neck, killing me instantly. I slumped and she dragged me off into a nearby room and stripped me bare, shoving my body into yet another locker.

After that Meryl pretended to be me, wearing my uniform and helped out Solid Snake and Raiden from behind the scenes. If I remember correctly, I think it was my lack of boots that gave away her disguise. Her boots weren't Russian.

I also vaguely remember my dead body falling out onto Raiden while he was searching the lockers for rations and other items and I also remember being discovered by a patrol who took my body past Olga who became really pissed at having lost another soldier before being put into a storage room with a dozen other dead soldiers. (Mostly NPCs, none were killed by Solid Snake though. Our Solid Snake never killed anyone.)

It was pretty decent. I think Olga, Fortune and Vamp survived but I'm not sure. It's been a while. Oh yes. Screaming Mantis died but he moved his consciousness into someone else. I wouldn't mind doing something like that again but finding that many good players would be so bloody difficult. Plus that GM was pretty damn awesome.

I haven't even played the games since Metal Gear Solid 2. They were all on Playstation and I had an Xbox.

Name: Arla
Species: Twi'lek
Age: 24
Appearance: Arla is a slender green skinned Twi'lek. As a slave she wears whatever is provided for her. Currently this appears to be little more than some jewelry. She is quite relieved to still have her ear cones but has had eyebrows tattooed to her hairless brow.
Faction: Hutts
Equipment: None
Skills: Dancing, Seduction
Weaknesses: Arla is a captive of one of the Hutts (Which one is to be determined). She also has a slave control implant that can electrocute her, causing her stinging pain, excruciating pain or even near instant death.
History:

Arla was born on Ryloth, her clan poor and starving in the deep caves where her people evolved so long ago. On rare occasions she would go out and watch the "under worlders" raid the surface clans for food and valuables while the "upper dwellers" would raid the under ground portions of the planets for slaves with which to trade to the "off worlders". Old Republic, Empire, New Republic- it didn't matter. So it had been for thousands of years and so it was likely to continue so long as Ryloth remained in Hutt Space. Twi'lek would fight Twi'lek,
Twi'lek would fight Separatist, Twi'lek would fight Twi'lek. Then they would fight the Empire before Twi'lek began fighting Twi'lek again.

Arla was taken in one such raid, just one of thousands that were used as bartering material with off worlders who have absolutely no interest in helping the Twi'lekki people get off world and establish themselves on a less gods forsaken planet. They love the pathetic needs of the Twi'lekki peoples for they are incredibly easy to take advantage of, fighting among themselves for the crumbs the greater galaxy chooses to fling their way. The tribe that kidnapped her sold her for a blaster, which would be of great use killing her own people and was packed aboard a slaver starship and whisked away from her home. Later, she would be sold for thousands of credits against the two hundred credits the cheap blaster would cost. Later, they would make even more credits off of the power packs which were cheaper still. Quite the lucrative deal.

Arla, like most subterranean twi'leks is an accomplished fighter with the primitive stone weapons and slings. Wood, of course, being so incredibly rare that it could not be wasted in the crafting of weapons. The women of a tribe were expected to protect it while men were away hunting for food or raiding other tribes for their supplies. She is, as one might imagine from living underground, also quite adept at skulking about in the dark.

Aboard the starship that had taken them she, along with several of the slaves, had to deal with an unknown creature in the ship's hold that was hunting down the slaves one by one. She served as bait but managed to lure it into an airlock and decompress it. It was the scariest thing she had ever done.

After that she arrived at the slave auction and was promptly tattooed. Apparently normal humans were discomfited by the Twi'leki lack of eyebrows. They also informed her that, had they time, they'd have performed a genetic augmentation upon her that they did to many Twi'Leki, replacing her cones with... human ears! The very idea disgusted her. Those strange wrinkly misshapen things on the side of human heads were so ugly!

Sold into a combination cantina and brothel Arla spent the next few years serving its patrons and developing a reputation as a dancer that drew people to her establishment from across the planet. Unfortunately, the fall of the Great Galactic Empire took her owner by surprise and his establishment, long prospering under the protection of his Imperial patrons suffered. The Hutts swooped in confiscating her along with everything else the man had of value.

Serving now as a slave to the Hutt that "annexed" her she is desperate for some means of escape. She'll work with anyone who promises her freedom.
Yeah. I've waiting for the finale for over ten years! After The Last Jedi I really needed some good news. Solo was pretty decent but... you can't feel any suspense for Han and Chewbacca when they're in danger. Oh no, that giant rock is headed straight towards Chewie's head... Will Han pull him back into the vehicle in time or will his head explode like a smashed pumpkin!

Addendum: I really don't like double posting so I'll just add that I'm posting my character now. She's going to need to double up with someone who has a beef with the Hutts. If anyone is so interested, please PM me and we'll discuss it and get Letterbee's input.

Still on vacation but I'll be there :)
MULTI INC. sent out thousands of emails, inviting thousands of players to one of their test facilities around the globe. The players were, of course, ecstatic, but they had to sign an extremely strict NDA. After entering one of their remote facilities, they reveal to them a new technology. MTech. Multi-Virtual Technologyl The MTech is a device that looks a bit like a CAT scan. When someone enters the MTech POD, the machine scans their biometrics and administers a painless surgery. From there, the machine used their brain as the VR Experience. It can simulate their five senses perfectly. When using MTech, processing power is unlimited. Everything is absolutely photorealistic. From each hair follicle to each leaf. TThe pods and the buildings are locked. No one gets out. Everyone from the outside world is locked out of using normal VR headsets to play the game.

...

anyways, would anyone do it? it would probably start off as researchers finding a signal from the depths of MULTI, revealing new hand-made planets being created from within the game. our protagonists would then create a team to explore MULTI, get lost in side quests, and find out how to escape.

(also, due to MTech, MULTI INC. is able to replicate neurons. the NPCS in the game are as alive as you and me.)

I have numerous questions based on the above text:

1.) The pods and the buildings are locked? How about food? What about defecation and muscle atrophy? Wouldn't MULTI INC. be able to get into and out of their own facility to at least care for the bodies of those trapped inside?

2.) Researchers discover a signal? Are these researchers inside the simulation or those monitoring the situation? Are they people playing the game who somehow find this signal or new areas? Are these people from outside, hired by MULTI INC or volunteering to enter the simulation and rescue those inside? The text isn't really all that clear here.

3.) MULTI INC can replicate neurons... but so what? Are you saying they can create artificial intelligences? Why not create the NPCs based off the characters interacting with them. It would be rather easy to scan the expectations of the players, establish a consensus, apply a random quirk or two from a select few players and create a very realistic simulacrum.
I was the one to suggest the orc inclusion as plantation workers. However I rather suggested that the orcs (which I was comparing to Tolkien, not Warhammer) had been defeated yet again by the other races on one of their repeated crusades of pillaging and plunder.

Unlike preyed upon Africans the thought was that the orcs put themselves in their position of indentured servitude through their constant warmongering. This allows for higher minded characters to question the wisdom of the deplorable situation and maybe seek an alternative solution.

One must have evil to tell a story of good conquering evil.

The elven woman aboard the Graven Peril turned to look at something, drawing attention to her gently pointed ears and the jeweled chains dangling from the piercings. She was listening to something that Commander Hutch could not see. Most likely receiving some form of instruction.

"We apologize for missing your hails. We have been watching for your signals with our glasses but we have seen not a single soul flying flags on your decks, nor have we even been able to identify any open decks upon your forgeship.

"We are the rebellion vessel, the Graven Peril, sworn to bring down the Elven Menace. We have vital information that could turn the tide in our fight for freedom. However, like yourselves, despite our best use of sextants we don't recognize any of these stars and can't find our way home.

On behalf of my captain and all his crew we offer you safe passage aboard our vessel to meet us. Then, if you would be so kind as to tow us to a ley line."

Hutch raised his eyebrow as he looked over at Walden. Elven vessel? Had they seriously somehow come across elves?

"We didn't have anyone flying flags outside-" He signaled to the entire room. "-We're unable to breathe outside without suits, signal flags haven't been used for generations. We were considering signal lights however you appeared before we could attempt that."

He looked up at the DRADIS console. "If you need passage somewhere, I can't offer a 'tow' as such. It does look however that your vessel is small enough to dock in one of our flight pods. I am afraid I'm not too sure what a ley line is however. "

The elven woman looked briefly confused by the inability to breathe without suits but seemed to take it in stride. She peered to the side again. Something that she actually didn't need to do as the image was generated entirely within her own imagination but she found the action engendered trust. She listened to the invisible person for a moment.

"My apologies," she blonde woman said, "My captain wishes to thank you on behalf of our crew for your offer and then to advise you that we shall be slipping boats into the void to pull the Graven Peril into these 'flight pods'. That is the cavernous aperture along the side correct?"
I'm heading out on vacation for three weeks but if this is still here when I get back I'll be pleased.

I do have two suggestions though:

1.) Establish the limitations of magic before characters start being created. Make certain that those limitations insure pistols and lever action rifles are still relevant.

2.) Don't bother with Texas. Have fun with altering the existing stereotypes to fit your vision. For example, maybe the orcs were defeated by the combined races and now are subjugated and work corn fields and sugar plantations. Maybe various factions are pro or anti-emancipation. It's up to you. Have fun with it!
Here we go. Let's give this a try.
