Hyde strolled along, thinking about the quest he'd just accepted. He wasn't sure what he'd done. Had he gone too far accepting it? Was it going to be too hard? Was he going to have to find help? All relevant questions. All of which, plus many more, were floating around his mind, unsure of which to decide on. The NPC that handed out the quest was spooky enough, let alone the quest itself. A player or NPC that could change it's status for whoever long it wanted. And it had ties to the Black King. Who knows how the quest would end? Hyde's continuous killings? Or, perhaps, he might actually pull it off and kill the NPC.

As he approached the entrance to the Black Guild City, he felt a strange aura. Was it just nerves? Was he about to be attacked? He wrote it off as just nerves and entered. Hyde grit his teeth and carried on deep into the city. So far, nothing was out of the ordinary. It looked like any of the other cities he'd been to. Except the others weren't ran by a psycho that had a particularly violent reputation among the players of Deep Ground Online. Was the Black King actually the status-changing-NPC that he'd been sent after? Hyde didn't know what he'd do if he ended up squaring off to the Black King and his guild.

Hyde didn't know where to start, either. He had no solid leads, and the only one he did have lead straight to the Black King. And something told Hyde he wouldn't get an audience with him easily. Or at all. He decided that he would just keep quiet, and see what he could soak up on the streets. Though he doubted that his target would just show up out of the blue, or he would miraculously get information from some random source on the street. Hyde found a single bench and sat upon it, alone with his thoughts. There was nobody around, so he could think clearly about what he could do and what plans he could formulate on the spot.
In the middle of that zombie apocalypse like....

Keisuke lurked in the shadows, watching his prey as it drunkenly stumbled through the overpass. He smiled behind his mask, not taking his eyes off the man for even a second. He watched as the drunkard moved haplessly in circles, trying to find the exit but only managing to retrace his steps. There was nobody else around. It was dusk, and the morning light was only beginning to break through the clouds, but the streets were still quiet. The occasional car rolled by from above, but there were no distractions other than that. Keisuke licked his lips and ran his tongue over his teeth, composing himself before he struck.

It had been an extremely long time since Keisuke had eaten properly. He'd only just recently escaped the Ghoul Detention Center thanks to the group Yatagarasu, of which he was now part of. Keisuke was probably on countless watchlists and had countless CCG agents on the prowl for him. But he didn't care. He liked the attention. It had gone to his head, and Keisuke thought he should give those looking for him somewhere to start, and decided to begin with the drunk being directly below him. Guy probably had a family. A job. Keisuke didn't care. To him, the guy was just another face, another meal, another life to take.

Keisuke pushed himself off the ledge and glided seamlessly down, until he landed in front of the man. Keisuke's red eyes pierced into the man's, and he could see the fear building up. His kagune appeared down his right arm. Keisuke smiled once more, enjoying the power he had over the man. He advanced, and the drunkard attempted to run in the opposite direction, only to trip over his own feet and go down. Keisuke stepped over and raised his arm.

"Don't do that," he goaded. "I don't like my food dirty."

And with that, Keisuke plunged his kagune into the man's gut. The blood streamed out, and splattered onto Keisuke himself. Keisuke cackled as the man groaned in pain, and continued stabbing until the scene looked like somebody had detonated a tonne of red food colouring. As the last few ebbs of life left he man, Keisuke kneeled down, and removed his mask, revealing his disfigured jaw. His teeth were still intact, and the sharp fangs inside his mouth still had their uses.

"Feel special," Keisuke taunted. "You're my first meal in a long time."

Keisuke smiled once more before sinking his teeth into the man's throat and feasting on him.

Leon lay in the back of the four-door pick-up truck as it trundled along the deserted highway. He'd been picked up by some fellow survivors who were heading for some kind of safe haven they'd supposedly heard about on their radio. When they found him, he was a shell of a human. Malnourished, dehydrated, on the verge of death. Out of sheer kindness, they'd loaded him into their truck while he was drifting in and out of consciousness, listening to them debate on what to do with him. He clearly wasn't dead since he'd thanked them for their kindness, though it was just in a whisper.

They'd already searched him for bite wounds and, upon finding none, allowed him to stay. The group, consisting of two men and two women, fed and watered him, which he was extremely grateful for. They seemed to have supplies in abundance but, at least to Leon, his definition of lots was considerably different to others since he'd been living off scraps for just over two months. During this time, he'd managed to keep hold of his trust fire axe that had been with him since day one. He hadn't needed to kill anything, or anybody, though, since he spent most of his days hiding and wasting away, waiting for death to take him.

As the clouds began to group together and blot out any light, Leon found the strength to sit himself up. He gave the group a reassuring smile and sat, hunched over, on the wheelarch. Leon thought about his co-workers he'd abandoned back in the city, but decided that it was for the best. A natural selection, of sorts. Only the fittest survive, and Leon was still alive. He sighed and looked at the road ahead. There was a truck that had crushed a sedan against the barrier in the middle of the road, blocking the entire thing. Leon heard the driver of the pick-up curse and the vehicle slowed down to a halt. There was no way around.

"Well, now what the fuck are we going to do?" Asked the driver.

"Man, it's dark," his passenger replied. "I don't wanna be out at night."

"What if we head back to that gas station we passed a few miles back?" Queried one of the females.

The driver nodded, did a U-turn and drove back in the direction they came. As they did, Leon helped himself to a water bottle, and swigged from it, making sure none of the others noticed. He placed it back where it came from as they reached the gas station. The group began to make sure the coast was clear before setting up tents and other sleeping arrangements inside the store that adjoined the gas pumps. Leon was confined to a sleeping bag outside the tents since they only had enough for the original four, or so they said. Maybe they didn't trust Leon. Maybe Leon didn't trust them. But, for now, Leon drifted off and got some much needed sleep.

Leon awoke to one of the loudest screams he'd heard in his life, not too dissimilar from the ones he'd heard during the first few days of the rising. He literally burst out his sleeping bag, clutching his axe. The man and woman who were in the tent next to the one the scream was heard from got out too, clutching their weapons. His was a baseball bat, hers was a table leg. The screams were still going, and Leon could see the silhouettes of the two inside the tent scrambling. One seemed to be trying to get away from the other. Eventually, Leon saw blood spurt across the tent side. The zip began to open up and two bodies fell out. It looked like the man had turned and was now feasting on his female counterpart.

Then, the moans and groans of the undead outside began to get louder, much like they did when he was hiding in a suburban household two months back. They were coming. They had heard the noise, which acted like a homing beacon, and were advancing, growing in number. The woman saw this, and immediately got spooked. She leapt towards the back exit, and opened it up to her own doom. She was ripped outside and devoured by the five infected beings waiting. The man, who Leon recognized as the driver, was closest and shut the door, sealing her fate. The two look at each other. They were trapped inside with one of those things and about fifty more outside.

"Shit, man, shit!" The driver exclaimed. "We're gonna fuckin' die!"

Leon looked at him, and then outside. The undead were pressing against the door and windows now. And they wouldn't hold. The cracks were already beginning to appear. In all honesty, he didn't know what to do. There seemed to be no escape. The woman outside had stopped screaming, so she was probably laying in two halves with the undead picking at her internal organs. The two inside seemed to be eating each other, so they were pre-occupied and didn't care about Leon and the other man. Leon paced around, trying to come up with some kind of miraculous escape plan to save himself and his new ally.

Leon remembered that there weren't too many around the back, so maybe they'd still be occupied with the other woman. He steeled his nerves, yanked the door open and prepared for death... But nothing. His idea was correct, and they were actually in a corner, still snacking on their human hors d'oeuvres. He turned back to beckon the driver to follow, and he did. But he was too quick. The driver slipped on some blood, courtesy of his two undead friends, and hit his head. Leon strode back to help but, as he did, the glass caved in and the undead poured inside the gas station, and straight for the two.

Leon made a decision on the spot, and nabbed the driver's keys just as his leg has grabbed by a member of the undead ranks. Leon tore off outside just as the driver was dragged, kicking and screaming, into the seemingly-endless waves of infected, where he was promptly ripped apart and turned into a human meal. Leon made it to the pick-up just as the undead noticed him, and leapt inside. He locked the doors and switched the engine and headlights on. They illuminated the store, and Leon could just make out the driver pleading for help and mercy as he was bitten, torn and scratched at from every angle.

Leon looked away and drove off into the night. He could have saved him. All he had to do was pull him up. But then Leon might have been too slow. Had he deliberately left him behind? Had Leon just used the person he helped as bait just so he could get away safe? Leon glanced back. All the supplies were still there. A tear rolled down his cheek. He couldn't decide if he was turning into something he didn't want to be. The things he'd seen, especially in the city on day zero, would be enough to change most. He congratulated himself on making it this far, and told himself he wouldn't stop until he was dead, even if that meant doing whatever he had to to survive.
(( This was a collab between myself and TheWindel. ))

The hooded figure wasn't there a moment ago. In fact, it would have been near impossible for them to appear unless they were either fast or had some kind of cloaking ability. But there they were, all the same. A figure draped in gray clothing with a hood over their head, concealing their face in shadow. And they were standing right in the middle of Hyde's path.

At first, Hyde hadn't noticed the hooded figure. He was too busy focusing on his beauty of a Morningstar to see, which was now tied to his waist. But as soon as he looked up, there it was. It wasn't clear whether or not it was male or female, friendly or enemy. He narrowed his eyes, glaring at the cloaked person. Slowly, but surely, his hand slid down to his weapon, unsure of the figure's next move.

The figure was all too aware of Hyde's presence but did nothing to confirm or deny if it was an enemy or not. However, the closer Hyde got, the figure's status was revealed above its head. It read NPC. It was obvious now that the figure was not going to move out of the way, seeing as it wasn't a Player.

Hyde's hand closed around the handle of his Morningstar, but he did not yet unsheathe it, though he felt his grip get tighter as he got closer. Perhaps it was nervousness since he hadn't met an NPC as strange as this one standing straight ahead of him. It wasn't blocking the road, but Hyde didn't exactly want to slip past it and have some creepy NPC attack him from behind when he wasn't looking. Instead, he called out, "Friend or foe?"

Once again, the figure showed no signs of responding to Hyde. It only stood motionless, like a ghost as Hyde approached it closer and closer. Finally, when it seemed that there was no room to manuever out of the way, a pop-up screen was notified on Hyde's user interface. It was a quest request, as average as anything else. To to find a random NPC in the middle of nowhere offering quests was a bit skeptical at the most. Still, rare stuff like this was always bound to happen in DGO.

Hyde was quite taken aback as the quest request appeared. His hand drifted away from his Morningstar, realising the figure wasn't as much of a threat as he had first assumed. He stared at the cloaked person, looking for any signs of abnormality, but he couldn't actually see his or her face to decide. Biting his lip from behind his helmet, he began to read through the quest information.

Help Required: Dead or Alive

Mysterious figure with the ability to change their status indefinitely. Most likely an enemy NPC, Boss tier. Reward is 10,000 EXP. It should also be noted that the Black King, Moon Rider, has apparently come into contact with this enemy. Approach with caution.

The figure was silent though it did shift a little closer as Hyde read the quest's details. From the sound of it, it was fairly easy. Instead of hunting down a large conglamoration of Dissolutions like most quests did, it seemed that there was only one NPC to hunt down. The bit about changing statuses was no doubt interesting and would definitely be something to look out for and consider. But what was perhaps most intriguing was the mention that the Black King had encountered such a foe. Maybe this was some kind of hidden quest for a Legendary Weapon or Item?

Hyde couldn't believe what he'd just read. The ability to change their status indefinitely? That was something Hyde hadn't seen before, and certainly wasn't normal, everyday practice inside DGO. But it was interesting. And Hyde had a penchant for interesting things. It was like the easter eggs in other video games he'd played, and he'd probably end up treating this one just the same. Chances are, though, if it had something to do with the Black King, it was almost definitely an enemy. Perhaps it was the Black King, but Hyde doubted it. And that EXP reward. How could he say no? Either way, he accepted the quest.

The hooded figure shifted once more, revealing just a glance of what lay beneath its cloak. No facial features were made out but two points of red flicked about before they were concealed once more. One could only assume that the NPC had red eyes. As if the experience couldn't get any more weirder, the hooded figure stepped away before fading outof sight. It was gone. Coupled with the empty roads and the darkening sky surrounding the Black District in the distance, it was just a little bit unnerving.

As he watched the figure more or less dissolve into the scenery, Hyde just stood there, dumbfounded at the experience. He spied the Black City on the horizon, and began his journey once more, planning on starting his investigation into this status-changing-NPC-thing. Though, the Black Guild and it's players weren't renowned for their welcoming attitude towards prying eyes, and, if the Black King actually did have ties to this person, Hyde doubted he'd last long anyway. Forgetting the negative thoughts, he pushed on towards the City, deciding on fate to guide him.
Can't wait for this to begin! :)

Already got an idea for my first post.

Keisuke was bred to despise the CCG, and his hatred was cemented after his father was killed and he was imprisoned by the CCG in the Ghoul Detention Center in Ward 23. During the chase in which Keisuke was captured, his mouth was disfigured by the CCG operative pursuing him, which is why he refuses to remove his mask, even in public.

Eventually, though, the center was taken over by the group known as "Yatagarasu" and Keisuke was freed, with a bloodlust towards those who caused him years of suffering.
