I had been thinking more of a free-form rp, but I could develop a mechanics system if that's what folks are interested in.
@zellected Accepted! Moving your character to the character's page, feel free to post a copy of it there yourself if you want to keep it updated!

@Bai Suzhen Hmm, I could incorporate a Shrine Maiden, or if someone wanted to rp such a character, I'd have no issues with that.
1. Never really thought about it, but if I had to pick I'd go with Paul??
2. An ottoman full of sex toys.
3. Night owl for sure.

1. Favorite song by an artist whose other music you don't know/like?
2. Favorite Wes Anderson movie? If none, favorite Tarantino movie?
3. Favorite video game character?
Since four people are interested, OOC is up!
Sugar Pine Village

As a part of a new economy-growth program which encourages small towns and villages to be as self-sustaining as possible, the government has organized a group of 100 volunteers settle in the abandoned Sugar Pine Village. The village was abandoned during the last economic collapse, and never grew to become more than a couple of shops and houses. As a part of the program, the town itself will receive substantial tax breaks for the promising local output of natural mineral resources in the nearby mountains.

On the other hand, the town itself is largely cut off from the technological world, receiving neither internet nor cell service. A lone, outdated television sits in the corner of the bar in the Green Leaf Lodge, and the only telephone in town, aside from the mayor's, sits on the bar's counter. Roads are made of dirt or cobblestone, and the fire department consists of a well and buckets. There's potential for these things to be improved over time, but at the cost of the government's own desire to interfere with the village. There are a few cars that can travel to and from the nearest town, picking up supplies and dropping off the town's exports, so there's no fear of the town becoming stranded.

Still, it is clear that in order for this village to work, everyone will need to do their part to help Sugar Pine Village succeed as a community. The mayor has appointed those necessary for general infrastructure: a sheriff, a chief physician, and an overseer for the mines, but a town of abandoned storefronts and uncultivated farmland awaits.

Welcome

This is, as the title says, a Harvest Moon inspired RP. The idea of beginning with an empty town is meant to allow players to choose where they want their characters to fit into that town. Essentially, you can choose whatever you want your character's profession to be, within reason (for example, the town doesn't need two bakeries, but two farms or animal ranches would certainly be useful). Your character doesn't necessarily need to be a specialist, if you want them to be the person who cleans up the bar after closing time, feel free, perhaps they can work their way up or remain content with the simple task of cleaning. Further, they might not work at all, but stick around town until they find their calling or just lay about all day and sleep under the bridge. Don't get too hung up on professions, just know that there's options and I'm going to be okay with pretty much any reasonable request.

Application

Fill the character template out as you see fit!

It's first come, first serve in regards to certain professions, like owning a particular kind of store.

Finally, Harvest Moon is a lighthearted game. There shouldn't be any violence between townsfolk, especially between characters, unless it's relevant and agreed upon by both players (or between player and GM in the event of an NPC being assaulted). Romance and swearing are fine, just don't go overboard.

Teddy rolled his eyes away from Ken and they landed on another girl who was standing up, and walking towards... himself? He was shrugged it off, certain she was just weaving through the awkward table pattern and would soon be hanging a left or a right once her path was cleared. Then she was right next to him, "Hi, mind if I join you guys?" she said.

He nearly did a double-take, what was this girl, a junior or senior (hell, she could even pass for a student teacher), doing asking to sit with him and his table of 6th and 7th graders? Nevertheless, he saw no reason to be rude.

"Uh, sure," he said, standing up and stretching out his hand, "My name's Teddy. You probably don't want to get to know these no-accounts, but this is Sarah, Edith, Andrew, Harry, and Toby." He gestured to each of the kids at his table, respectively.

@ramblingbard
Well this devolved into a shitstorm faster than I'd expected.

The conversation at Teddy's table had drifted into indifference when one of the older kids began making some sort of speech. Teddy's head turned, and his classmates' heads followed, that guy was standing on his table! Teddy's eyes hardened in distaste, he recognized the guy, Ken. It seemed like Ken was always up to something, and it always had to do with girls. Why was he so obsessed anyway? There were bigger issues in life, like school, family, this lock-down...

He noticed the janitor come up to Ken, it looked like he was trying to coax the kid down. Good luck, Teddy thought, now that every girl in the school's watching. Truthfully though, Teddy admired the janitor's effort, and he tried to listen in on the conversation. But through the accent and the distance, all he picked up so far was something about dinosaurs.

Hey, dinosaurs were pretty cool, maybe this janitor guy was alright.
