Ava heard the footsteps coming a long way away, but she didn't stand. She was confused, and couldn't tell if the steps were approaching her, or going the other way. When the woman approached her she stood up, slowly, trying to determine wether or not she seemed to be a threat. She was always cautious of other people, as she had found people were rarely as kind as they appeared. She didn't have many options, however, so she decided to give her the benefit of the doubt.
"I'm fine," she said, putting a hand gingerly to the wound on her neck. "My name's Ava." She felt steadier on her feet now, and though she still felt a bit dazed, a bit of clarity was returning to her. She studied the woman for a moment. "What are you doing out here?" she asked, then awkwardly added, "I mean, thanks for the concen! It just seems strange that you were out in the woods at this time…"
Ava shut her mouth. She chattered when she was nervous, but this was not the time for that. She needed to get back to her motel, and this woman seemed trustworthy enough. "Sorry," she sighed. "I'm not sure what happened to me. I really just need to get out of the woods…"
