@Sp00ki Exactly. Anything complicated doesn't work as intended half the time if not more because the site's bbcode is so, so underdeveloped.

I forgot how much of a pain in the ass trying to code on RPG can be.

Hm, to make another interest check or not--that is the question.

That's just Terra Nova with extra steps.

Oh dear lord, I love her.

Question: would monsters typically have a stronger spiritual connection and thus reliably be able to see/hear her?

I'd imagine the more animalistic monster-people would have an easier time seeing/hearing her, going off the fact that people say animals are sensitive to the paranormal.
Here to complete the trifecta of werewolf, vampire and ghost.

I know that the Holloways and the Graves are neighbors, but should we situate everyone else on the street? I can draw up a very, very crude map if we want one. X'D

I think it was @Force and Fury that plotted out the street map with me in the past RP, but I don't have a copy of it anymore. It was rudimentary and everyone was essentially next door neighbors, but if people would like to live slightly further apart this time around we can work something out (as long as it is on the same street, given the concept).

How far down the lane would you say the Holloways and the Graves are? I also assume that there are two entrances to the neighborhood? At least two, not including unfenced backyards. Are there any notable features around the neighborhood? Any lakes/ponds in the general vacinity? Any wildly overgrown forests?

They were somewhere in the middle last time. Their proximity was also a tool to explain the differences in houses (Micki had mentioned that there could've been a fire in the past that had wiped out much of the old brick colonial homes in the area, hence the differences in housing).

The street has two main entrances and exits. In New Hampshire (or at least small town) fashion, they go one way from each direction. One way goes deeper into town, the other way starts to take you out. The road itself isn't a concrete parking lot, it is skinny in size like the example below.

There are a few points where the road breaks off to other streets, but they aren't numerous.

The only notable feature that has made it outside of concept stage, is the park-esque gazebo in the Mulberry neighborhood. It had a wheelchair ramp once, but assholes told FnF's Lila to get fucked because it "disturbed the historical character of the gazebo". The gazebo has the same name as one of the nearby school teachers (Mrs. Merriweather, who had been teaching first grade where Jason first met Holly and most likely others), so perhaps there is a connection to be made. Or maybe it's just a coincidence and no one noticed. I don't know.

I can say that the town (and in turn the street itself) is surrounded by forest, though. If you look at the example town inspirations I mentioned, much of it is woodsy. As for lakes/ponds, yes and no. Huddeen doesn't have one but there are spotted ponds/lakes near by (Baboosic, for example).

Edit: I should really make a guide to Huddeen, huh. Trying to remember all this information after an overnight shift is tiring lol
@Varshanka

I'm aware. I never finished Holly's section from the prior RP—and still haven't got around to finishing it in this rendition.
@half pint@heretic@astro@yankee@ayden123plat

This is a check-in for those who had expressed interest but still haven't submitted sheets.

I get that haha, I guess I was thinking about it more in the sense of a player and GM's perspective rather than a story one. It would essentially end up with a player (me in this case) leaving the RP. So that's what I was more wondering about, whether you minded having a short-term/temporary player versus taking a more committed long-term player instead. If I'm explaining myself correctly

I don't have an issue with that.

@Force and Fury

Feel free to post in the IC.

@Varshanka

I am waiting for Micki to get back to me about what she thinks about your sheet. Personally, the main issues I see are:

A) The military angle is overlapping with already established characters (that being Gunther's family and Grayson from Theyra's). I can see potential in an influx of military-trained individuals defeating the survivalist aspect of the roleplay.

B) The sheet feels "trauma-dumpy", if that's the correct way to phrase it. I don't have an issue with the PTSD angle, but it feels like that the angle is being used as a stepping stone to include traumatic event after traumatic event in the CS.

i dont listen to madonna but i like this version tbh
I know I'm not approved yet, but what time is it? Springs, Summer, Fall, Winter? Month? How long ago did it start? two weeks? two months?

Modern day spring two weeks after. This is stated in both the IC/OOC.
@Kuro I'm still considering. As I was conceptualizing, I kind of realized that for the possible story I'd want to tell with my hypothetical family, it might not fit well in an RP environment for the long term. But hey, what do you think about someone applying with the intent to...

It's a zombie apocalypse RP. People will inevitably die.

Holly knelt in front of the kitchen cabinets, turning the corner cabinet turnstile around and around in dismay. By now, Morgan had wandered off to the open concept's living room, clearly more interested in playing with her plastic tea set than bothering Holly with questions as to what she was doing. Holly preferred it that way; she didn't want to Morgan to know that the family was almost down to scraps. Whether or not Morgan actually knew what that meant was another question, but Holly felt it was better if her tiny, little head wasn't worried about such things. Like everything else that had happened in the last few weeks, it wasn't fair to her. Then again, it hadn't been exactly fair to any of them in the first place.

She sighed, cursing herself for not going shopping just prior to the fallout. At least with pancakes it was just a case of mix and water, but sooner than later they'd be hard pressed to cook anything else.

Maybe Lee's mom can spare something...

Holly dwindled on the idea. She didn't wish to put more pressure on their next door neighbors, given the circumstances. Asking for food meant more mouths to feed, and it wasn't exactly like they could freely visit a store right now. Yet on the other hand, the two families had always been there for each other throughout the thick and thin. If there was one family or person she could have faith in to help her out, it would be the Graves.

Pushing herself back up to her feet, Holly closed the cabinet and approached the front door. She gripped the handle, hesitant to twist it. Ever since the apocalypse had started, Holly hadn't ventured long outside. One wrong step and you were zombie chow, being ripped apart by your former neighbors. Who knew what lurked outside that very door? The very thought of it made Holly shudder in cautionary fear.

She shot a momentary glance towards the umbrella stand beside the door. Playing it safe was wise, Holly felt, as she grabbed an umbrella from the stand. It might've not been the best weapon to defend herself, but the pointy end could at least fend the hungry undead away from her, not unlike a spear.

"Morgan, sweetie," Holly spoke, her grip on the umbrella tightening. "I'll be right back. Stay inside and keep an eye on dad, okay?"

"'kay!" Morgan responded, more focused on her make-believe tea party than anything else.

It hadn't been an answer Holly was satisfied with, but she knew she couldn't expect much more from a five year old. Taking a deep breath as she opened the front door, Holly hoped Morgan would be okay by herself, if only for a few minutes. Surely tea parties had to be more interesting than wandering off on her own and getting into trouble—they had to be.
