Seeing a problem as a challenge is a bad attitude to take to the problem

The problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude to the problem.

Reading tales of King Arthur, it appears that none of his knights had any honour.

Bio

Hello, person. If you want to know about me, know this: I spend far too much time on the internet. If you wanted an overview, stop reading now. If you want to go into some detail, I also enjoy researching upon ancient history (Alexander the Great is a particular favourite) and know to much random stuff that will never be useful to anyone. E.g. The first city west of china was founded in 5000BC in Sumer (now Mesopotamia) and was called Eridu. So if you go away with anything, go away with that, because it makes you seem interesting if you know it. Probably.

I also enjoy reading, Brandon Sanderson is one of my favourite authors, and playing games from the Total War series. I write things as well, but you only get to read what I write here. You're a stranger, I'm not sharing all my stuff with you.

I am also pretty sure that I am a nice person. Now you can leave. If you want to stay, that's fine, but there's really not much else to do here, so...

Name: Shadow
P.S. I also adopted a Pokémon because WTF not.

Elnariel watched as the girl was hoisted off the ground by what seemed to be dark tentacles. At least, it was probably a girl. He could tell by the way that the goblin appeared to be enjoying himself so much. Filthy creature.
She didn't lack for fight though, to give her something. Not one girl that Elnariel had previously known would have done any more than scream and cry and beg for mercy. It was good to see one with backbone, unlike the healer who had joined them. While she was most certainly a useful addition, he suspected that it would not take much to make her flee.
Aeolia he had heard of. A supposedly up and coming scholar, he hoped that she would provide a least some mental stimulus during this endeavour. Unfortunately, she appeared to be associated with the goblin. Apparently, she too had considerably lowered her expectations of people.
Her spirit would also be of much interest. He had read many studies in the grand library, mostly detailing their behaviour and restrictions, which appeared to vary greatly from spirit to spirit, much like human or elven capabilities, however, there was almost certainly an underlying factor, if he might observe the spirit, he might...

Keep your filthy fucking hands off me! I rather be man handled by some...

As usual, Elnariel's mind had wandered off on one of it's usual tangents. He quickly brought it back under control, focusing on the task at hand. The girl did not appear to lack spirit, and if she had evaded the guard this long, what's to stop her from evading the denizens of the old city. And if she couldn't... well, no loss to him.

"Instead of tying her up, or leave her hanging indefinitely by magical tentacles, might we instead make use of her? I'm sure she would much prefer the old city to a cell."

@Maxwell Ok, so, seeing as there is either a) a lack of source material for WH elves, or b) there's loads and I haven't see it, and since WH elves seem to be very similar to Tolkien's elves and D&D elves, I think it's safe to assume that they 'sleep' the same way.
Since there are probably quite a few 'rules' that some people think elves should or should not follow, I think that I trust @Jbcool to play it well, and just go with any character descriptions he has. It shouldn't make too big a difference, unless he starts flying. Then maybe they'll be questions. But so far, I think he's done a good job.
So, to conclude, let's just go with stuff and trust people to manage their own characters. Now here's a smiley face, because I want us all to be happy. :)
Kitsune had never believed the rumour of the number of sword schools in the west. He had assumed it another myth told by adventurers who hadn't actually done much. Now he was here though, he must have passed at least five or six just a day in, and he quickly learned not to put his sword on show. The people here seemed very fond of duelling, and the first man he'd come across had instantly demanded a duel if he wanted to cross the bridge he was guarding. He shot him. Kitsune was never the best swordsman, and it was a waste of ammunition to continue in such a way.
Most people, however, seemed quite cheerful and pleasant, which was always a good sign. A little girl even offered him a bright red flower when the road had taken him through a small village. That was sweet. He wore it in his hair as he made his way gaily down towards the sword school at the temple of Kirin, his first stop. Hopefully, some fancy swordsman would be willing to help him. He wasn't sure quite how he'd convince them, nor how he would even get in, but he would work that out when he got there.
While the landscape was not particularly impressive, mostly rice paddy's and small farms, the temple itself wasn't too shabby, as of course, one should always expect of a temple. He saw many people queued outside of the (very elaborate) doors, waiting to offer incense and prayers to the Kirin of the West. Each to his own, he supposed.
It took him a while to make it to the school, the complex was huge, with so many turns and corridors that Kitsune wondered if anyone even used it, or if it was just a trap for would be thieves. There weren't even any signs. Eventually, he managed to convince one of the temple guards to tell him where the school was, (No, he was not going the cause a disturbance. Yes, he just wanted to do the selection. Sucker.) Finally, after walking all the way back out again and round to the western corner, he found the small gate they used to allow potential students into the courtyard. "Sorry kid, too late, it's started." There were two swordsmen on the gate, likely new students at the school, they would be prideful. Easy.
"Come on, I was just a little late!"
"Well too bad! Better luck next year."
"I bet you couldn't even beat me, you just got lucky."
The guards eyes bulged, he'd been allowed into the most prestigious sword school in the world, he could beat anyone who came through these doors. "Oh yeah? Prove it!" He yelled, placing a hand on his sword hilt. The other was trying to calm him down, but to no avail.
"If I win, will you let me through?"
"With pleasure, but it won't happen."
"Very well." Said Kitsune. He drew his sword, and one of his revolvers, offering both to the guard. "Sword or gun?"
"Sword." The guard spat contemptuously.
"Your choice." Said Kitsune, sheathing his blade. "Then I have the gun." The man's face fell.
"B...but...you..." He stammered.
"Go" Said Kitsune, and pulled the trigger. A large boom followed soon after, and the guard collapsed, holding his shoulder. Kitsune knelt down to whisper to him, "You're lucky it was first blood."
Then he threw open the doors, and stepped into the courtyard. "So...can I speak with someone important? Please?
I should have a post up today.
@Milkman Is the sword school in a mountainous area, or what's the terrain like where it's situated? Just so I don't get the wrong idea about anything. Just, you know, generally what it looks like.
Right...100, dark chi infused, highly trained, Kung-fu Warriors. And the second best in the world. And an evil sorcerer. It's like Conan all over again. Because anything else just isn't cool enough. So, @Milkman, want to get in on this? We can meet up with @Lexicon and @FantasyChic on the way, if that's cool. I just don't want to be left out of this fight, because it looks like it's gonna be awesome! We don't have to, but I think it would be good to get together.
@Milkman I am, in fact, one step ahead of the game, and I have read everyones backstory. I'm assuming you refer to the rumours of an unbeatable Lynn swordsman? Easy. I shall travel to the sword school! Onwards!
The third member of their party was...interesting to say the least. The man was veritably festooned with shields and armour, yet Elnariel could not make out a single offensive weapon. If he carried even a knife, Elnariel could not see it. He appeared to think that he had a companion as well, but when Elnariel looked, all he could see was a very injured man being loaded into a cart. It did not bode well. In fact, Elnariel believed that he may have heard of this man. Upon reflection, how could one not? His fighting style was certainly unique, and the effectiveness with which he enacted such techniques was said to be second to none. They just needed a magician, or an archer, or someone who...

He caught the signal of one of his informants. Something unusual, he'd signalled a disturbance, but didn't appear to know what was causing it. Elnariel drifted ever so slightly behind the shield man, just as a goblin pushed itself through the crowd. Elnariel's lip curled in disgust, surely they weren't going to let this...thing travel with them. By the look he gave him, Avienus appeared to agree, and Elnariel allowed a self satisfied smile to creep onto his lips. But then he looked, for some strange reason, at his cards, and his attitude changed completely. Elnariel sensed that they were not going to get rid of the goblin any time soon. While Elnariel was never a leader, he had to question this particular decision, for it could only end in disaster.

The final man to join their party, was Reed Tallis. Elnariel would know him anywhere, as he was one of the most reliable killers anyone could find in this district, and such people were a rare commodity. He believed he may even have commissioned his services himself once o twice, though never, of course, with his knowledge. It felt good to have a man he knew he could pay to get something done, should the need arise.

Yet again, Avienus consulted his deck of cards, strange fellow. Well, he wouldn't discover anything with idleness "I say man, what are you doing? Looking at those cards, do you think you can tell the future or something?"
@Milkman So, should I go to your school? Or did you wanna meet somewhere else?
@Bright_Ops The captain will strongly advise against it, probably call you many less than pleasant names, but if you persist, he will let the horse into the pens with the other animals. (Yes, they DID bring pigs onto ships. And if they didn't, THIS GUY DOES!)
