@YamiCuoreLaroux Nice one.
Jonathan felt the shadow knives rip into his flesh, and clenched his teeth while trying not to shout. The hits were more cuts than stabs, and the metal robe have him some light protection; it was definitely way softer than solid emtal however, and he could therefore feel the shadows tearing part of his back with a sensation both like and unlike an actual dagger. He had forgot the cryptical horrors of the Shadow, and obviously underestimated their power.
Turning around to face the Shadow, he threw another punch on it -for real this tine- and then kicked it as far away as possible. As the Shadow was pushed back, Jonathan used the time he bought to reach for his necklase, and a the while starting to slowly harden the robe around his arms.
@UnusualStranger I see. I personally do not find having 2 of each grenade is too much, mostly because the materials and time needed to make more make production of more very difficult after those are spent. Yet, if you insist, I shall only have 1 of each.
Now, I took the idea for the SCAR from my characters backstory, where he used a similar device to examine the Elemental flux of the SCAR. The chip might seen overpowered, but you should note that it is not, in fact, a real tracking chip; it merely Fires bursts of the kind of power that the SCAR detects. It is basically the magical version of having a thermal tracker and sticking something that keeps itself hot all the time on your target.
And don't worry, I will scale back my equipment as much as is required for gameplay balance.

I'm still here, Kath. Just waiting to get over the obstacle course. If I see it won't end soon enough, I might make another post just to pass time.
@UnusualStranger@WriterRaven Let me clarify.
First of all, I'm pretty sure the shock wave should at least hurt and daze the Nightshade. I mean, he's still a human, and he doesn't seem to wear too much armor. Secondly, the grenade will not actually work like a frag grenade; its casing will remain more or less intact.
Thirdly, I'm no longer sure what exactly hurts a shadow. I now guess that they are not dazed by light, so would throwing it to my legs -bad idea; I'm not invulmerable to it- hurt it from the flash, or the explosion itself? And as of the distance between the grenade and me, don't forget that Jonathan has just stepped into the bar, and therefore he is still pretty close to the door.
Now, as for the construction of the grenade, it is not nearly as complex and sophisticated as a modern, real-life concussion grenade. The secret is mostly to the shape of the sphere; the six holes are very thin, just to contain the explosive material, and to prevent part of its corrosion (even though it is not perfect;as is the case with all my explosives, they require some periodic maintenance), while the rest of the case is thick enough to contain the explosion. Even though the minerals used are obviously not good ol' TNT, they are not picked with the same care they are for the US army; a mix of potassium and phosphorus is probably all he needs as basic materials, which I can guess he can acquire in small quantities in some places.
Furthermore, the flash grenade (though definitely handy) was not an asspull, even though I can understand what lead you to think of that. I do have a certain canon assortment of Jonathan's gadgets in my mind, which I guess I bought to give you now in some detail:

2 Flash Grenades (of the kind used above), loaded on his belt
2 Smoke Grenades (simolarly constructed, those use a slow-burning black powder and sulfur compound to produce Smoke for 10-13 seconds), loaded on his necklase
1 Ballistic Knife (spring-loaded; comes preloaded with 1 blade, but more can be made on-field from avalaible materials), loaded on his belt
1 modified SCAR (Storm Core Abnormality Detector) Sensor (can detect Elemental activity in the near area; far from perfect, it requires either a constant use of Elemental abilities or a giant showcase of Elemental power to have happened at an area; on the other hand, if the requirements are met, the sensor can recognise Elemental activity up to 15 minutes after it happened), mounted on his necklase
1 Chainmail ... Well, chain ( mostly used as a whip; because of the metals used in its work, Mettalics like Jonathan can manipulate the chain mid-swing to target things better), mounted on his necklase. Be could probably use it to try to hit the Nightshade as he passed past him, but he already had the flash grenade on his hand.
1 Detection Chip (when it senses it has been planted on something or someone ,it sends pulses of energy similar to Elemental activity, which after a couple minutes can be recorded from the SCAR. It has a range of up to 25 meters. It works best when planted on Elementals or other magic-imbued objects), fit into is pouch
1 Pouch of spares, filled with complex parts that be cannot make without much time avalaible, or specific tools), mounted on his belt
Feel free to ask me to edit or remove anything that could break the balance of atmosphere of the game.

And finally, not flinching might have been a poor choice of words. Think less of invincibility and more of steely (forgive me for this pun) determination; like when a normal person gets punched, but keeps his ground and quickly moved his head back into position.

Again, Im so terribly sorry about so ignorantly breaking the games flow. Maybe Im not as suited for the whole thing after all... But God damn I'll try to become.
@KatherinWinter I have problems reading the map at the OP. Where is the kitchen, compared to the others positions?
@UnusualStranger I.. see. If it dazes the shadow, or makes the Nightshade lose control over it? Or maybe it makes it dissapear temporarily?

I mean, I am trying to get this working from a science standpoint, which might be a bit silly on a fantasy environment like this. But I can only guess that the flash, if it doesn't outright kill the shadow, it should at least disorient its darkness-calibrated senses. And the grenade itself is still filled with explosives, so there physical pain and heat from one going off near the guy should disorient him in a large enough degree to lose control. BTW, how powerful are these guys supposed to be in terms of rank? I can only guess they are high on rank, but I'm not sure how exactly.
Jonathan passively accepted the fist thrown at him from the shadow that popped out of nowhere. The fist landed cleanly on his right cheek, with a loud smack, but Jonathan barely flinched. In fact, he wore a small smirk at the laughable attempt to take him by surprise -he did not seriously expect him to see a man participating in a raid with what seemed like very experienced Elementals with nothing but two knives and not have similar skills himself, did he? His metal robe was now also glowing, and he could feel part of its let shoulder mophing towards his left hand, slowly forming the metal gauntlet that would allow him to operate his gadgets.

He noticed the bar's attendants leaving en masse from the building in every exit they could find avalaible while the shadow pulled out its knives at he exact moment his gauntlet was finished. Even though he approved of the civilians evacuating, the cover they prvided to the Nightshade fleeing with them was a major problem. He did have a non-lethal way of stopping him, but it could still endanger and incapacipate the masses rushing towards the door. Still, he had to act fast.

And his course of action was to throw a left punch towards the shadow; an unsucessful one, in fact, as the shadow was quick to react in a backward head tilt that got him to partially lose his balance -just as he had planned it on doing. Using his conserved momentum, and not worrying about the distacted shadow fighter, he stepped firmly with his left foot, stopping his roll, and at the last moment of his swing, he threw the device he was holding -a small spherical object with six sealed holes on it designed to be a flash grenade- towards the Nightshade, trying to be as precise as his worn-out eyesight would allow him. The flash was mainly supposed to daze others and cut connections betwen Shadows, but he would prefer if no civilian was deafened or burned from being too close- secondary side-effects of the powder that he had never before found necessary to remove.
@UnusualStranger Just a coupla questions; first of all, are those shadows tangible by others; like,can we actually physically hit them? And also, are those knives of real steel, or merely shadows of them? And if the latter, do they cause the same amount of injury as the real things?
