ALEXANDRA “ALEX” METCALFE

When it was Alex's turn she smiled directly at the cashier. After trying to determine certain things about all of the people in the coffee shop she currently had no idea what she wanted. "What can I get you, Miss?" Her eyes flicked to the menu board hanging above the cash register naming the first thing she saw under the pressure of the long queue of customers behind her and the forced smile of the cashier. "I'll have the uh, Caramel Frappuccino?" she said in utter confusion, she had no idea what she had ordered. It sounded alright though. The cashier looked confused too as she asked for the amount wanted and Alex slowly handed over the notes. She politely told the cashier to keep the change, considering how much confusion she had just caused between the two of them. Following the line as they moved towards the collection point, she leant against the back wall making sure she wasn't in the way of the rushing Starbucks workers dashing around to give the awaiting customers what they have ordered. Her eyes began to wonder around the store again, many people seeming to know each other pretty well chatting happily along as Alex waited for her beverage in the corner. Most of the time she was alone due to the fact that she never really had a lot of friends because of having to stay home to pick up the pieces for her drunk mother or look after her younger brother. However, she wasn't complaining the bond she had with Jordan was more than she could ever ask for. Family used to be important to her until both of her parents let her down. Now all that truly matters to her is her brother and she doesn't mind about that.

"Caramel Frappuccino?" The sound of a polite lady calling the drink from the side snapped Alex away from her daydream. She held the drink out with one hand, trying to carry on making the other orders with another. The worker seemed to be slowly getting annoyed that no one had collected their drink, having to have called out the drink multiple times until someone finally realised. "I'm sorry, uh, thank you!" Alex said quietly, taking the drink from the woman's hand, her cheeks flashing red. Making eye contact with the lady as she turned, she made sure she smiled an apologetic smile but the worker just turned and carried on with her hectic day. Alex turned to rush off back to her apartment but seeing as their was an open table free, she slid into the seat and made herself comfortable, quite enjoying people watching and going into her own little daydreams. Being back to herself, Alex examined what sort of drink she managed to get herself, she saw someone drinking something looking like this as she walked in and it did look quite tasty. Alex took a tester sip from the straw, it was average, she could deal with it. Slowly she slumped back in her seat her drink in hand as she watched the world go on around her.

Madison Louise Parker.

Age:
Twenty-two.

Gender:
Female.

Appearance:
Madison stands at a tall height of five foot nine inches, weighing at around one hundred and thirty nine pounds, having quite an athletic build. Her brown hair reaches mid-way down her back but is normally braided to one side or thrown up into a messy ponytail. With her pale skin, her stormy blue eyes are very noticeable. Normally wearing black jodhpurs, small black ankle boots, a white polo shit with an old camo jacket she used to adore.

Brief Personality:
Forceful, original, and sensitive. Tends to stick to things until they are done. Extremely thorough, responsible, and dependable. She has well-developed powers of concentration. Very individualistic, rather than leading or following. She is a high risk-taker, living for the moment. Uncomplicated in her desires. Shown to be loyal to anyone who deserved it but has extreme trust issues and is hard to crack into. Being by herself most of the time, Madison has learned to not trust anyone and keep herself to herself. Detached and analytical, they excel at finding solutions to practical problems. Maddie tends to be through everything she has been through very cold hearted. Grown to be very devious too.

Background:
Being two at the time of the bombs fell Madison was moved around a lot with her parents. They did everything they could to keep their little girl safe, going to drastic measures and taking risks just for her. But Maddie only remembers them in sketchy details due to the fact that when she was around five they abandoned her in their first settlement. They left as the settlement began to fall apart, going against the good morals they were supposed to follow by and have. People killed people for reasons that weren't good enough and stole from good people. Madison's parents decided to leave as soon as they felt everything go down hill but they left Madison to try and fend for herself. Being delirious, she gathered up some supplies and left to find her parents but without finding them, ended up alone.

Being as young as she was wondering the wilderness, as expected the next settlement which she passed by took her in. They made sure she was well looked after and the good people who did take her in began to teach her the ways to survive. Knowing she couldn't stay in their settlement they wanted her to at least be capable of surviving out on her own. She stayed with these people for as long as she could so she wasn't alone and would learn as much as she could. Madison saw a lot of the world when they were moving, things someone of her age should never have seen before but in the world that they lived in, that was seen to be normal. When she reached the age of around seventeen, they dumped her leaving her for dead and showing how little they grew to care about her. Again, she was alone.

Madison carried on moving, sometimes she got accepted into settlements but she swore to herself that she could never stay. She never opened herself up to anyone else and she never again trusted anyone. There was no one who kept together, they got bored of people and dumped them out onto the streets. Maddie knew that you could never trust any of the people who walked the Earth today because she grew to work out that they worked in the same way. They best way she thought was to keep to herself, stay away from anyone or anything that could be bad news and not to get too attached to anywhere. Nowhere was home.

Nomadic or Sedentary:
Nomadic.

Alone or With Someone:
Alone.

Any Unusual traits? Does it show physically?:

ALEXANDRA “ALEX” METCALFE

Once the broadcast was over Alex pushed herself back up onto her feet, switching the television off for the peace and quiet her mother would need when she woke up. Plodding back through the small one bedroom apartment, she made into the room where her sound asleep brother was still laying. It was the day after Christmas and she allowed him to have an extra lay in for today. That was the only thing of Christmas, neither of them really got presents. Only presents Alex could afford after paying the bills for Jordan. She spent the most on him, she never needed anything and hated spending money on herself. As quietly as she could, Alex gathered a pair of black leggings, a casual white top and her old camo jacket, making her way into the bathroom to wash and change. Once dressed and ready, she gathered her things from around the room and packed them into a backpack that she threw over her shoulder. Making sure she planted a light kiss on her brother's forehead before she headed out.

The fresh air was a pleasant hit as Alex walked out into the open street. The sun rays dancing and bouncing along the pathway. A clear blue sky, the vastness of it surrounding her, there wasn't a single white cloud in sight. Alex began down the road, digging into her jacket pocket for her cigarette and lighter. She carefully lit the end of a cigarette as she walked down the pavements, throwing the lighter back into her pocket. Where about's she was going wasn't clear to her. Most mornings going for a walk did her well, a pleasant way of starting the morning. Alex took a long drag of her cigarette, she thought of her brother who she left at home with their mother. This walk was going to be quick, Alexandra hated leaving Jordan with their mother, she never looked after him and Alex felt like she was only worried about getting more alcohol, not about the welfare of her kids. If their mother did she would've proved it to them a long while ago. She didn't want him seeing their mother like that. Alex may have grown up with it but she wanted the best for her brother, not having to work around a constant drunk fake of a mother. The only reason she had stuck around and carried on living with her mother was for Jordan, otherwise she would've left as soon as she was old enough.

Not even after a few minutes of walking, Alex neared the local Starbucks. It was handy for their to be a coffee shop just around the corner, sometimes its just what you need in the morning. She threw the cigarette onto the floor, trending on it as she pushed the door to the coffee shop open. The sweet aroma of coffee took over her senses. The bitter, yet invitingly warm smell filled the atmosphere. The shop was pretty full with younger people and adults sitting at tables like they knew what they were doing. Alex continued to scan the coffee shop as she joined the queue of customers for her coffee.
Is everyone headed to the coffee shop cause if so, I may as well come too! :)

Alex' eyes slowly flickered open as she heard the light hum of her phone on the nightstand. Stretching her arms up above her head, she tapped lightly on her phone turning the buzzing alarm off. Slowly, she swiped the back of her hand across her right eye and down across the side of her face, wiping the drool from the night before. Having just had the most peaceful slumber in a long time. Constant nights up until four am or early wake up calls from her brother with constant nightmares. The culprits mainly being either of her parents. Alexandra turned over facing her younger brother, watching him as he slept. Eyelids closed against the dim light, his breathing deep and relaxed, all the muscles in his face and body were totally at peace, like a baby in its' first deep slumber. Not a twitch, not a spasm, barely any movement apart from his chest rising and falling with each intake of air such was the depth of his oblivion. This was a body totally at peace, at rest.

Eventually, Alex lifted her head from the pillow, her long hair tumbling down her back like a waterfall as she calmly took in her surroundings of the room she sat in. Her eyes fell to the window, a sheet hung from the broken curtain rail letting in as little light as possible. She stood and made her way towards the main of her apartment. Turning the corner, a passed out mother lay on the sofa causing Alex to sigh instantly. She allowed her eyes to wonder over her disgrace of a mother: bottle of vodka in hand, mouth wide open, fully clothed and television on. Again she sighed and shook her head, dragging her feet towards the kitchen. Alex had full hope that after coming out of rehab their mother would finally start being a better mother to them, a mother her and her brother deserved but she should've known that was all just too good to be true.

In the kitchen, Alex pulled open the fridge with ease. Her eyes scanned the fridge shelves from top to bottom. Empty. Nothing but sour milk and mouldy cheese. She turned away, taking a few breakfast bars from the cupboard, leaving a few for her brother yet to awaken. The kitchen they had was extremely old but their whole house needed to be re-done, most of it was falling apart. She wondered back towards the passed out body on the sofa, her eyes retracing the body of her mother and around the unkept living room until finally they rested on the battered television screen. A young news presenter standing proudly as he gave more news about this new virus attacking many more countries. All the new information they were feeding everyone genuinely intrigued Alex, she wanted to know more. She unwrapped her first breakfast bar, feeding it to herself as she stared deeply at the television screen perching herself on the edge of the coffee table.
