I have an idea for an Esper ability, but I'm not sure where it would fit in-canon.

Feel free to hit me up with any questions.

I'll probably let this stew for a bit more before getting up an OOC (which isn't gonna be too different from this), but any big stuff from me is gonna postdate the 9th of November (gotta get my Astrophysics exam outta the way).

Alright, so in general, we don't have to think about any of the wonky events like 'giant sky laser shoots through the sky and obliterates satellite' when thinking of our backstory, yeah?

Well if you want a backstory that's like "I want to steal pieces of the satellite and make money off it", you can take it into account. I'd put the date down as around late August, so yeah, Tree Diagram is down.
I'll give this a gander. Are there going to be any organizations/events from the canon that you'll be keeping? Will there be a ban on magic folks as well, operating incognito within AC?

I'll be keeping canon stuff mostly in the background, but they'll be there. On magic, I'd like to keep things revolving around Espers for you folks for now; it's easier to manage.
I forget if we've already gone over this, but would you like a reconstructed character sheet or would porting over our old one work?

There's just an ambition section now that's new.

Consider me interested, though I'm more familiar with Railgun than Index. Hopefully this won't be an issue.

You'll be fine. The setting's the same.
Hi. Maybe I can join this again?

Definitely. I'll try and involve you more too as well.

Academy City. A sovereign city-state, renowned globally as an institution dedicated to the furtherment of science and education. Located in a walled enclave of Tokyo, Japan, its population of 2.3 million (of which 80% are students) are spread out across 23 School Districts, learning, growing and thriving for the neverending cause of advancement that has allowed the city to stay thirty years ahead of the rest of the world. Of course, an individual of said population (such as you), might not particularly care much for the specifics of something as vague as scientific progress, especially when it's really more of a footnote to Academy City's main attraction:

Psychic powers.

You see, the purpose of the city is to study psychic powers by creating beings known colloquially as Espers. These beings, usually members of the student population, have unlocked their potential to make use of a wide variety of extranormal abilities (some pretty cool, some useful, and some as pointless as a Creative Writing degree) thanks to the efforts of Academy City's local researchers and scientists. Ostensibly, the continued development of these abilities is core to the success of this "Power Curriculum Program", but the truth is that the students still continue to participate in a reasonably normal (albeit high-tech) school life, with regular testing by the institutions being the only difference to education anywhere else in the world.

Except when you've gathered up an entire technologically advanced city full of superpowered students, anything can happen, even if it may seem completely unbelievable. Strange happenings, shady organisations, and rumours coming true, all of these are almost "normal" in a place like Academy City.

For beneath its veneer of respectability, there are many dark mysteries waiting to be solved ...

Introduction

Academy City is a place of stories. No, let's try this again. Stories take place in Academy City. From the big to the small, the students of Academy City do things, whether they're powerful Level 4 Espers doing whatever a teenager does with immense power or a scrappy lower-levelled punk hoping to rise through the ranks or just being an overall drain on society. They do things, have their own little stories and whatnot, and sometimes, these disparate folks have their tales intersect.

And when at least two of them meet, that's how you get an incident.

Whether it's something small-scale like an argument over vending machines, or a bloody battle to assert the dominance of their respective ambitions, a meeting between inhabitants of Academy City is never going to be uninteresting. What goals do they hold? How will they succeed at them? How do they react to other people? And what happens if those others get in the way of their dreams? All these things can lead to a wealth of interaction, and the incidents that arise will be what they make of it.

And as more of them connect, the closer they might get to understanding Academy City as a whole.

What is an Esper?

Of course, you may also be wondering right now: what exactly is an esper, and what is this level thing you're yapping about? As the name suggests, espers are those who possess extranormal abilities, but to be more specific, espers in this setting are those who have undergone the Power Curriculum Program and cut themselves off from regular reality through drugs, surgery and other experimentation, thus giving them access to their powers.

Espers possess their own personal realities, and through the mysterious energy field they emit (known as AIM), they impose their own reality onto that of the world. Powers differ from esper to esper (although some types can be common, such as telekinesis), and each can only possess one type of power. These are ranked from Level 0 (essentially powerless) to Level 5 (of which there are only seven in Academy City) depending on their effectiveness. In this RPG, no characters are allowed to have already reached Level 5.
Quick Rundown

With the recent release of Index S3 (praise Battle Royale), I've decided to drag this thing back out from dormancy. This is an RPG set in the world of the Raildex franchise (with A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun being its main representatives). You're all going to be students in Academy City (powers possibly optional, given the presence of numerous Level 0 Espers), hanging about and in most situations, enjoying your everyday springtime of youth as usual.

However, because it is Academy City, your springtime of youth is definitely not going to be what we'd consider normal. Whether it be a mystery of the week that you've stumbled into, or a plot of your own making that you're running for the sake of your dreams, you're going to be doing your best to get through it and get out in a way you want.

There's loads of stuff on offer for your characters to do. Loads of stuff that you might want to do (message me if you got ideas too). And hopefully, you can have fun with that.

Also if you got any issues, HIT ME WITH THE Qs.

Big Mama Jin - Number One Woman in Japan

"Hah, neither of us gonna die that easy."

And Ryou was absolutely, one hundred percent certain of that fact as she dropped. Falling from two storeys was fucking nothing compared to all the other shit she'd put herself through. Everything else was a real dog's breakfast though, goddamn. Now that she'd gotten some fresh air in her and wasn't hanging around inside some crappy classroom anymore, the extent of whatever the fuck was going on was like, way clearer. Like, the "if her silverware got cleaned so good she could be mirin' her reflection in them" type of clear, you know?. That was always pretty fucking ace, actually, but she was getting off track again.

She brushed dust and fragments of dust off her uniform. A few cuts'd opened up too and maybe she'd get some fucking wackass infection from them, but that was like, the least of her worries right now and she'd kinda fucked up by forgetting her bandages today too. She didn't know nobody who'd like, wanna start something who was a classmate, you know? Most magi were shut-in NEET fuckers who liked poppin the jizzle for Dark Amazon or whatever (and hey, that was their business even if she thought they were super creepazoids), not fucking crazies who thought swinging their bigass magic juju 'round in public was a good idea, you know?

Bloody hell, and were there two of them now?

Ryou wasn't like some forest scientist or whatever, but she was pretty sure that forests didn't pop up outta nowhere with Bambi in tow everyday. That was some Shennong shit that was going down, not that the guy'd told her anything. Was she losing her touch with the fortune telling? Did her fam accidentally degrade some mystery or whatever? Like why the hell hadn't she seen anything like this coming? She already thought the terracotta was pushing it, but this was some more bullshit?

Damn, she really shouldn't have turned up to school today.

But hey, she was supposed to look at the sunny-side of the egg or whatever it was. At least she'd be able to hunt down and wreck the shit of some idiot magi. But first she'd have to find where their asses were hiding, and that was going to be kinda hard unless ...

"Oi!" she called up to the window. "You wanna see a magic trick?"

Big Mama Jin - Number One Woman in Japan

"Aiyaaah."

When Ryou'd gotten out of bed in the morning, she hadn't really been thinking of rocking up to class. School was a pain to get to, you know? Especially with everybody loading into the fucking metro like canned squid or whatever the metaphor was. Her original plans were maybe to check in on her Farmville, set up her fortune-telling stall on a street corner to grab a bit of extra dosh, hit up a local dojo for some fun, the usual, you know? But then she heard that Dor was in today, so hey, why not follow those societal norms and do a bit of learning for a few hours? It wasn't like she could find anyone else whose mouth could shit out the top fucking joke material so consistently, you know? Probably UNESCO-rated or whatever. And one day, he'd actually confirm if he was the OG pasta gangsta that everybody said he was.

She'd been trying, but no dice with that.

And she'd gotten nowhere today either. Had to deal with classes too, which was a real pain in the ass. Dor was a cool fucker, but even he wasn't enough to make school less of a total chore. Fuck, she'd really made a bad decision this morning. Next time, she'd just follow his Twitter or add him on FB or whatever. Sure, that lost a lil' bit of the magic, but even the diluted good shit was still pretty ace, you know? Like, she followed Beat Takeshi on Twitter too, and that guy was still fucking divine.

But she was digressing. 'Cos today was turning into a serious rodeo. Did she beat up an actual fucking Taoist at some point in the last few weeks? Was this some Zuo Ci bullshit? Her fortunes hadn't been looking this bad on the weekend, but now some asshole nincompoop magi decided that it was a great idea to dump some crazy terracotta bullshit on her ass while she was already hating on school? Like what the hell? She was feeling real attacked right now. All she wanted was a good time, you know?

Bloody fucking hell.

Fuck it, she was number one in Japan. Whoever the shithead responsible was, she was going to go and find him, admire his huge brass balls, then rip them off and give them to an actual tanuki. Then she was going to enjoy the rest of her day. Instead of this fucking bullshit.

Ryou jumped through the window in a hail of shattering glass.

"Hit the windows, teach!" she barked out over the din, hand barely gripping onto the sill. "Unless you lookin' to be paste cos I'm not judging!"

Huh, now that she thought about it, her uniform was looking kinda funky with all the glass shredding it.

This gig is poppin'

A mere week ago, the grounds upon which the concert was being set up was nothing more than acres of underdeveloped land, a vast but sparse patch of territory that the nearby villages once saw as too costly to expand into. It was open land that was lacking in any natural fortifications, thus the Grimm hordes that menaced the walls of Vale's satellite settlements were usually common amongst these parts. There was no manpower to liberate the land, and there was no strong motivation to hold it.

Until now.

Now, there were no more Grimm. Now, there were humans. Now, the Vale Council had chosen to make use of the cleared land. Now, they had decided to fund a musical concert tour, and the vast field so far south of the city proper had become home to workers and musicians setting up for a musical concert tour. Security too, with groups of armed individuals swarming the place to make sure that nothing went wrong.

Groups that included DAEO of Beacon, who were now landing on some tarmac to be greeted by a member of the concert team on the ground.

"I hope your trip wasn't too long," said the concert team member with a smile as DAEO was deposited onto the ground. "It wouldn't do if Beacon didn't send anyone today."

Unlike some of those nearby, who were dressed in concert t-shirts, their greeter Liwang was instead clad in more typical hunting garb, although DAEO would note the large lanyard and concert armbands sticking out.

"Do you need a quick rundown of anything?"
