The United Republic of Arhas

Bedroom, Home, Beldren Subdivision, Suburban Town of Oumer, Near The Capital City of Eosia

He could feel the sudden pull out of deeper sleep as the alarm clock on the bedside table went off with the same repetitive, blaring alarm it always seemed to have. He felt the loss of heat when his wife got out of the bed, and could feel the small peck on the cheek she left for him. He could see that little smirk on her face without having to even open his eyes, really, playful as it ever was most of the time. He could even feel the heat of the early morning artificial sun creeping in through the window of his bedroom, even as he eventually rolled over on his back and his eyes opened up for the first time that morning. For only a short time he stared up at the popcorn-style white ceiling above his head, trying to shake the last of the groggy thoughts from his waking mind before finally giving in and running a hand over his face and wiping the matter out of his eyes.

From there, though, he knew it would be much easier. The same morning routine as ever, though it had become a certain amount of stability he’d come to appreciate as well.

Kepler rolled over some more before swinging his legs over the side of the bed, now sitting up and letting out one final yawn in his own bed before standing up to stretch his arms and legs. It was close enough to being the same type of pattern of getting up that he’d followed for over the last decade and a half, though he had to admit that finding and getting married to his wife had been perhaps the greatest possible improvement to the morning routine ten years ago. Indeed, already he could smell the tantalizing scents of cooking food on a stove, morning fare that his stomach would rumble in anticipation of as he was moving to the nearby bathroom attached to he and his wife’s bedroom to wash his face, shave, and get dressed.

...

...

...

White tiled floor, a blue-colored sky-like wallpaper with pictures of fluffy artistic clouds on it, and the sight of his wife draped in her long robe over the stop of her pajamas at the stove just on the other side of the kitchen bar. Her face seemed just as smiling and radiant as the day he’d met her, even though she was looking at the stove and tossing a large old earth style breakfast omelet in a pan she had once told him was called a ‘french omelet’. Whatever it was, he hadn’t tired of them in the last four months after she’d introduced them to him this year. Creamy, cheesy, fluffy, and with whatever else she decided to throw in with veggies and the occasional splash of pre-crumbled meat. It was enough to unconsciously put a small smile on his face as he walked up to the kitchen bar and sat on his usual stool sitting at the end of it.

“Well well, my dearest, it seems someone is ready for breakfast this morning at least~”

A low chuckle came out from between his lips, though it was enough to get his wife to look over at him. Deep green eyes and light brown hair tied in a hasty morning pre-shower bun certainly wasn’t what everyone might call the best thing ever, though it complemented his wife’s rather light tan skin, but for him he never got tired of it. Of this. Of any of this, whether it was a good day or a bad one. THough soon enough that gaze would turn back to the oven and cooking omelet in turn.

“Hey, it's one of the things I look forward to most mornings at least. Though when you’re busy, that Crepe-y Crepes place is my usual stop to get anything close. Sure it's just fast food, but whoever decided to add an Old Earth food place in this place was a genius. Beats the cheap Breakfast Hummus Wrap at Al Omar’s by a landslide.”

“Hmm. So you’re saying my food beats out Al Omar’s?”

“Absolutely. Place is already all over most anywhere you go here on Arhas anyways. Makes people sick if you eat too much at that!

…Not that I don’t enjoy the simple lamb and beef kebab sandwiches from there sometimes after work, if both of us are running late. Sometimes with a side of waffle fries with the Hallian yogurt sauce to dip.”

“The kids made a bet yesterday about that, actually, after they got home from school.”

“Oh?”

His wife would toss the omelet one last time, like a showman putting on a final display at the end of their act, before placing the food on a white porcelain plate and setting the plate in front of him with a small but telltale ‘clack’. Soon after a fork would be handed to him, before he immediately moved in to cut off a bite and shovel it into his mouth. Politely, of course, though somewhat still groggy in his manner of doing it regardless. It was, though, enough to get his wife to chuckle a little herself before she continued speaking again, leaning on the bar with crossed arms as she watched him eat.

“Sarah says you’ll change sauces one day there, try something else with your fries. Alan thinks you’ll never change what you dip your fries in. Both bet about ten arcas on it, a week of allowance, on the entire thing.

They both will probably try to get you to go there sometime the rest of this week and prove them right.”

“Mmm? Mmph mmm mmmmm mmmm.

*gulp*

Well that certainly makes things interesting then. Though they’d better not take their habit to gambling with other children as it is….knew a few too many when I was a kid who got into that sort of thing and lost it all over the years. Started as kids.”

His brows would furrow slightly, before his wife reached over with one finger and gently flicked his forehead.

“I can understand your worry, but I’ve been talking to the kids about it as well. They can keep it involved at home if they want, but nothing outside of the house. Especially not with adults either.”

“If they’re anything like you, though, they might just get so independent they start their own gambling ring behind the-, oww!”

The second flick on his forehead was a lot less gentle this time. He could feel the slight annoyance from here as his own smirk barely rose up on the edges of his mouth.

“Unfair! My father was working at a Casino when I was a kid, taught us some tricks the regulars he knew used, but I never did more than make silly bets with my siblings by the time I grew up. Though…my mother….”

He could see the wrinkles form on his wife’s forehead as her words trailed off, letting out a small sigh on his end before placing a quick kiss on her forehead to snap her out of it.

“Sorry. You’ve told me a few times, but I keep forgetting things these days.”

“I know. With everything that’s been going on since last week, and then last night the Gateway reopening of all things, I’m not surprised they had you stay at the office on a cot again.”

He lightly grimaced, then a bit more so a few seconds later, at the memories. Literally the afternoon the impossible happened, the Gateway of their ancestors reopened, and he’d been stuck in the office until rather late at night. No going home. Just tons of paperwork and mandatory emergency meetings over the comms as he’d tried to help organize things in the flurry of aftermath activity. Mandatory, all of them. Barely had gotten home to try sleeping in his own bed at that.

But that was the Department of Armed Affairs for you, and he’d learned that bit quickly after getting into the Central Government Bureaucracy and being pulled into that particular department due to his experience. He’d even worked with the Military Police at lower levels for years before that, even working as a Stratus as part of that. Now he was forty one, with two ten year old fraternal twins and a wife. Certainly a change in some aspects of his life, but in others he found that much had remained somewhat predictably the same….namely paperwork and meetings and having to go to different places all over sometimes.

“Eh, they fed us at least before I came home. Let us come home for a bit as well even. But while I can’t divulge details, I can at least confirm what they’re likely saying on the news late last night.”

“Oh~? So there is going to be a mission through the Gateway?”

“Several all at once, in fact. Tests at the Gateway site indicate there’s multiple exit points, meaning there’s a number of places that could be investigated. Where to approach first though? That’s what the problem has been more than anything, especially given we don’t know if anyone else out there is alive.

But…they finalized things at least, in record time to boot. So today it’s mostly a decision of who gets stuck on each of the three ambassadorial vessels to act as a representative as they get escorted elsewhere.”

His wife raised an eyebrow.

“Did they ask you or something?”

Kepler lightly sighed once more, before gulping down another bite of omelet.

“You can’t disclose it to anyone yet, but yes. It will be revealed to the major news stations this afternoon.

All the same, however, I’m going to be heading to work for part of today before leaving the local office. Packed that bag last night for a reason. I’m supposed to then report to the Arden Military Police Spaceport in Eosia as quickly as I can get there after work. No special escort, keeping it as hush as they can until it breaks on the news formally.”

His wife simply stared back at him for a moment, their eyes meeting in a silent conversation before she gave a small nod of assent on her end as he continued taking quick bites of his breakfast. Not too fast, even if he was hungry, but with time crunching on him as it was he had to hurry regardless.

“I can hear the kids complaining about it once you’re gone, but if you can you have to at least promise them souvenirs.”

“It depends, honestly, on a lot of things….a hell of a lot of things really. Not even a chance to say anything, but I’ll leave you some arcas to take them out to eat tonight at least. My treat, and I’ll bring them back something if I can to boot.

Sound good?”

A pause, before his wife would smile again and lightly kiss him on the lips.

“I wish I had more leeway on this, but I hope you know this means we’re eating out at Father Franca’s tonight without you.”

….Of course that was the catch.

Underground Facility Entrance, Arden Military Police Spaceport, Upper City, Capital City of Eosia

To navigate the capital city of Eosia was certainly something that many visitors might feel was impossible, and he couldn't’ blame them either. Kepler himself could only do it after having driven in to and back from the city a number of times for work, and after having worked there as a Stratus for some time to boot before he’d managed to land getting the suburban life with his wife in a town only some ways to the south. Still, one had to make their way around the sides of the city to move upward or downward in the city by road, or take the criss-crossing aerial lanes of flying hovercraft or moving hover-platform-craft services to make it across the city span more directly. On top of that, the myriad levels of buildings and towering skyscrapers that sat on the shelving and sides of the great ‘pit’ the city had seemed to be built into the sides and bottom of was certainly something grand in scale. On top of that it could give the uninitiated from the rural areas horrible vertigo by simply looking down on Eosia itself, mostly due to the sheer and utter scale of size of the great underground city in the first place.

Yet he knew where his location would be, and that was at the base of the westernmost two or three titanic tubes that seemed to come down to the underground from above to certain spots in the city in particular. Massive elevators that moved spacecraft to the aboveground part of the spaceports of the city and back down again. On top of that there was the massive large artificial sun array at the very top-center of the city, looking down right over the center of the titanic pit the city had been carved into and out of far and deep below the planet’s sands. It shone with a day-night cycle following that of the planet, keeping people invigorated with a proper sleep cycle among other things despite living so far underground. Miniature versions were even utilized in a number of larger-scale hydroponics operations, among other methods.

As he went along, however, the road would become oddly more isolated as he wound his way up and around to the military police facility he was headed to. Ultimately any side traffic and buildings would seem to disappear as he took a turn into a road going deeper into the side of the bedrock and stone, wrapping back around into the city again at a large and imposing military police guard station at what was the facility’s main gate. In that vein he would slow down and lower his driver’s side window, as signs on the closed barriers of the gate would indicate, until he came to a stop and a large mounted scanner ran its obvious light over his vehicle. Then an obviously-armed Stratus in what looked to be Grade 3 armor approached him with a shotgun held in hands (but which was pointed at the ground at least).

“Government Identification please.”

The main scanner at the gate would have already identified him, but there were always layers of protection and security in these places. Even so, his face held that blank and stoic look he had become known for during his service over the years. His ‘professional face’, or ‘poker face’ as some had called it, trained and drilled into him by his own volition as he’d come to face even the simpler life of a Stratus back in the day. And just as he remembered being back then, he could hear a tone of familiar ‘no nonsense’ in the man behind the helmet’s voice as well. Pulling up the retractable government-issued badge on his chest, Kepler would hold it out of the window where the Stratus could see as a small, hovering, robotic assistant came around the Stratus and scanned it. After a few moments, then, the Stratus would nod to him and give a stiff and formal salute.

“Government ID and genetic ID both confirmed. Welcome to Arden Spaceport, Major General Kepler Ardenson.”

Kepler would give a salute back as the barriers lowered and rose respectively in front of him, before raising his window once more and driving forward into the base. Not that he hadn’t been here before, though the occasion itself was much more notable than simply coming to observe facilities and so forth. Much more than leading military police into combat. Etc.

…Whatever awaited him, and the other two expeditionary vessels, beyond the Gateway was an utter unknown. It was something their ancestors could only imagine in their fictional stories and records after it had originally closed. But he hoped it was more pleasant than dealing with rebel cells at least.

For the Republic.

Vehicle Garage, Northside Ruins, Rural Town of Cibara

Breathe in, breathe out. Slowly. Let the nerves settle, and focus on one task at a time. No matter how many years she had been fighting for the Peoples Confederated Militia, or what her rank had become in that time, Alena Marie Callisto still reminded herself of the very basics and ran through them each day. Use a gun, operating her personal modified working frame, even running some stolen old driving sim machines to keep in shape for operating vehicles. By the same vote, she sought to drill it into every new recruit and lower officer under her command so they would also be just as prepared….occasional complaints or not. If they were to make any ground, they had to be prepared and ready to truly fight back against the fascist police state that claimed the planet to be under a ‘Republic’ then they had to be ready.

The short-haired redhead was in her casual clothes at her core, blue eyes running over the zippers and buttons of the outfit as she pushed and pulled and tugged the fabric of it to get it on her body. A stolen flight crew uniform over it that bore the Republic’s insignia, recent enough of a design that it would hopefully work for what they needed to do next. It was certainly tighter than her combat uniform, though, but they had little time to waste and less resources than they were hoping for.

"Comms test. All major callsigns check in and confirm your preparations, over.”

However, today was not a standard type of operation. No direct combat, but instead the sort of undercover work that she and her people had been doing here and there over the last few years. Even then, however, this particular mission was something else entirely that had come down in orders from the Councilor she served under later. Rushed orders to say the very least, but important ones that according to the message the whole of the Council of Six was passing down in turn to try to organize something out of recent events. Not much time but to take a short rest and prepare her best away team for this one.

“Callsign Firebird, reporting. Squad Three is ready and en route to the garage.”

“Callsign Iron Curtain, reporting. Squad Four is en route to the garage as well.”

“Callsign Hummingbird, reporting. Most of Squad Six is ready, but Mark got locked in the men’s shower room by two members of Squad Three again in just a towel. So we’re trying to get him prepared as quickly as we can after having to bust the locks again on the door….again.”

“Hummingbird, tell Mark to pull his face out of peoples’ asses for me, would you?”

“Only when those pictures of you mounting the hovervee drunk last month get old to me, Firebird.”

….Well, at least the soldiers were in good spirits despite the whole situation they were in. Not that the ‘usual antics’ didn’t at times drive her near to insanity. Or each other to insanity.

"Firebird, Hummingbird, cut the crap or I’ll make you cut it myself. Just get to the garage ASAP, because we’ve got ten till’ we need to leave. We can’t pass up the shrinking time window to rendezvous with our contact at Liewson Spaceport.”

It was rare the Council pulled any strings like this, due to how risky it was, but they had managed to get them a last-second contact at the Liewson Spaceport. From there they’d get their hands on a current military escort vessel of the transport type, one assigned to one of the three ambassadorial details the ‘Republic’ was sending out through the newly-opened Gateway. It was a large amount of luck they had that much of a chance, due to how rushed the situation was, but it was a small window they could try to take advantage of all the same. A chance to get out of the system and look for some kind of sympathetic ears out there, or even just a black market they could trade the stored on their acquired ship with, which could give the PCM the chance to build up or get something that could turn the tide of their cause. Anything that could make for a big break to gain ground for the first time in decades.

Though even she had to admit the rushed plan was a bit too risky, and the window for things was far too small. They’d already put it into her hands if she’d be breaking from the escort to another different location using the Gateway, if they could, as that would be their best chance at things perhaps. Then again, staying with the others would both help their cover and give them protection from potential foreign defensive aggression and so forth to boot. On one hand they risked being discovered as rebels by separating from their particular escort group, as simple as that, but could potentially use the reasonable enough justification of ‘hit the wrong button’ to try to save face. Maybe. Ugh.

What if the plan was discovered back home while they were gone? What if they missed their window, and local security got them before they could get to the Gateway? There were a lot of what-ifs that certainly could happen, and had at times in the past, but they were as prepared as they could be for what time and such they had to do so. Even had some of their own gear and frames sent ahead and loaded on that ship to boot already via said contact.

…Still, Alena would bark over the comms one more time, even as she noticed two squads already piling into the garage and standing in formation and at attention near her. Each had what little combat or standard attire they could manage to fit under their own respective disguises, though due to the rush it wasn’t too uniform in that regard.

“Team One’s leader will manage things in our absence, as discussed, working with Team Two to keep supplies in order and the base safe while we are gone. Councilor will keep in contact with them until we return as well. Already discussed what to do if Egelman tries to show up and take charge of our area as well…”

A fellow officer who was double her age but half her level of patience in the field and far more ambitious than she liked, but she would admit he did good work in sabotage operations and a more destructive sort. Egelman was also an asshole who tried to usurp her internal authority enough that they’d clashed a few times at meetings despite being supposed comrades and even having worked together on a few missions in the past after she’d first joined (and their areas had been better connected to each other). It was more like he wanted her position and to assimilate her area of operations into his, take on more power and authority in the process, though he’d been barred from officially doing that by their Councilor….it still likely wouldn’t stop a potential attempt to barge into her base of operations with his people if she was gone long enough on this mission though. Orders were one thing, being as independent as they were made it harder to enforce order at times. But…at least they each had a choice in that sense. Not like the faceless murderers they called the ‘Military Police’.

In that vein she’d punched his command codes into her ramshackle base’s defensive grid blacklist, rather than the whitelist it was supposed to be on as with any other officers, so if he showed up he was getting blown to cinders. Just as she’d promised him she’d have done to him if he tried. Team One and Team Two’s leaders were also her most loyal, and while the rest were she trusted them the best to handle a potential ‘allied incursion’ or ‘attempted coup’ from another officer. Her people also had orders to fire on the asshat if he tried to threaten them outside of their range of their self wrought defensive grid.

Court martial her for it or not, she would follow through with her threats against him either way. His female predecessor had been just as bad in a general sense anyway, if history and PCM records indicated anything about ‘bad behavior’ within the ranks of officers, though they had many veteran hands in that area of operations as well that they couldn’t afford to lose to bickering and infighting either.

As the last of the squads entered, including the formerly trapped ‘Mark’ whose stolen uniform/disguise seemed already half-wet, Alena would finish securing her main outfit and hold the piloting helmet under her right arm as she turned to face her soldiers. Three groups of five, each with one squad leader among their particular grouping of five. Her light blue eyes would carefully scan over each and every one of them from head to toe, ensuring things looked to be in proper order for sure, before finally addressing them once more.

“We could be gone for a day, we could be gone for a week, or we could be gone for months. Yet today we get the rare chance the PCM hasn’t had in its history…. the potential for outside help. The potential to gather supplies and equipment that will further the cause and ring of freedom around the cities of Arhas once more!

We stand on the precipice of something potentially grand, and our window of operation is tighter than we’ve seen it be at the best of times around here. In that vein, we need to remember that we are allies and are united in our case. Only together can we ensure the Peoples Confederated Militia will succeed, and that tyranny and fascistic rule can be broken and never again rear its ugly head ever again!”

She then used her left hand to salute the soldiers before her, who would all salute back at the same time in turn.

….For the PCM. For Arhas.
@Saiyan@Zool Posted! A mage who has had a wordy and long morning is asking to sit with Zell and MacKensie. If they find that ok at least. :P
Lillianna

The night had been eventful in its own manner of speaking, at least before she'd finally gotten to her bed. But that was a tale to be recollected at another time.

When she had finally gone to bed and tried to get some sleep, the mage found herself splendidly if not exhaustively tired and ready for sleep. The simple sheets and matress were enough for her, compared to the sleeping bag she'd used on occasion back home when she couldn't rest in her bed. Yet this wasn't home, admittedly, but exhaustion kept such thoughts mostly at bay as she'd curled up with her pillow and held it close in her sleep. Even if for just a bit, she was out of all of the crazy events and so forth that had been going on with and around her. One moment being on a beach, the next impaled by a cyborg water ninja, and the next she was bringing an accursed magical object to an academy after waking up and nearly blowing up two people at a hospital in a magical world. So...yes, it had been a lot thus far for her to say the very least.

Yet by the time morning had come, the sun creaking over the horizon once more as it seemed apt to do even in Mytheria, the mage was a hair-tousled mess lying there in her bed and piled-on sheets as her 'mage clothes' sat to the side in a rough pile on the floor. A mess that, had her uncle seen it, would have been entirely normal for the academic without skipping a beat. Instead of an uncle popping his head in, however, a curious younger-looking maid would slowly crack open the door and peek her head in.

"Mhmm...hmm....nooooo, I don't wanna babysit...."

The talking audible just on the other side of the door had made the younger-looking woman curious enough to at least pop her head in to see if the room's occupant was actually awake. She was to go gather clothes for washing from customers in the inn, as had been her job for about six months now, but whoever the mage in the room was she seemed especially talkative in her sleep. Tentatively she stepped into the room, her long and pointed ears barely brushing the door as she tried to at least be gentle about things, before clearing her throat and attempting to call out to the sleeper. She had to ask before simply grabbing someone else's clothes, after all.

"M-Miss? Ahem. Miss Mage?"

The sleeper seemed to turn over, but no response or waking up it seemed. She would try to same call again a little louder, but also to no avail. Then letting out a small sigh, even if a minutely annoyed one, the maid would grab a spare pillow that had made its way to sit next to the door somehow before lightly throwing it at the sleeping mage's exposed and slightly drooling face.

...

...

...

Yet safe to say, the end result of spooking the slumbering Lillianna led to a loud phrase and boom waking up whoever was in the neighboring rooms...and beyond that probably.

"LIGHTNING BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLT!!!"

It also led to the newer maid getting both an earful and then a calming pat on the back in turn from the older hand who managed herself and the other cleaning maids, at least after she managed to put out the small room fire, gathered the mage's clothes with permission, and then made it back to her peers who were likewise washing clothes and such. Waking an adventurer like that? That was something only the newbies seemed to make a mistake of doing, despite being taught and advised to avoid doing so for safety reasons. Many working the role of cleaning maid and otherwise in the inn had learned quickly enough that it was dangerous to both them and the very inn itself, though the inn itself had seen enough adventurers pass through over the years there to at least have a plan of action for such a case.

...Though the mage did insist on paying three extra silver to the inn for helping with the luckily minor repairs, even though she wasn't asked for it, and wound up tipping the maid she'd nearly fried another three silver for her troubles after apologizing profusely to her as well.

After getting clean clothes back in turn, however, Lillianna would hastily thank the maid once more before qwuickly attempoting to leave the room. She was trying to compose herself a bit better this time, or so Lillianna hoped silently to herself at least, but also to maybe get something to eat or the like. Yet the voice of the same elven maid hit her ears once more, though this time it sounded slightly more amused than 'oh my word is that a fire did i almost get hit by lightning' tone it had been a small while ago. Perhaps the behavior of the one who had nearly turned her into crispy elf was somehoow entertaining? It still felt embarassing enough to the twin-element mage regardless, though she was glad the maid had endeed up ok and that she herself had reigned back the power she'd been initially putting in that lightning blast to boot upon seeing a harmless person in front of her reflex-reaction-spell.

"Miss, we also have a washroom for you to clean up in, if you'd like. I can show you there as well, if you'd like."

The red-faced twin-element mage suddenly stopped in her tracks, her staff gripped a little tighter than nessecary in her hands still, before taking a slow deep breath, relaxing her grip on her staff a little, and then turning back around.

"I...I would like that. Yes. If you do not mind."

Quick silver eyes looked back at her with the same mild amusement now, though as the elven maid's slender face softened a bit into a smile Lillianna felt a small bit of pressure or tension release in the process. Her pale white skin seemed to be different than how the leader of the Adventurere's Guild had looked at least. A different kind of elf, perhaps? Held herself too well and upright to seem like a normal person either, but the mage had no idea for sure in all honesty. The elven maid ultimately, however, walked over and put a reassuring hand on her shoulder before motioning for her to follow along in the hall.

"Certainly. It will be just this way, Miss, but...please do take the time to relax once we get to the showers, ok? If naught else for your own sake I believe...

...Hehe."

A small chuckle at the end appended the rather formal sounding tone of the elven maid with something else, though the mage had no idea what. At the same time, she tried to breathe slowly and continue the effort to cool those nerves of hers as she silently nodded and followed along in turn. If the inn and maid were letting it go, then she ought to herself as well. Right? Even the hospital had been prepared for such things, and she needed to better control herself and her seemingly new habit of panic-prone surprise magic use at that. Yes! So in that vein she just needed to relax, let a nice and hopefully hot shower help her as well to boot.

...

...

To her relief, the showers would turn out to be something quite nice in her book. Simple, yes, but with enough hot water to really just soak it all in and give her time to let the sunlight coming in from the small glass pane above her in the showers to warm her up. Though it did seem they separated two washrooms, one for men and one for women, with each on a different side of the inn to seemingly keep it all separated rather neatly. Even the rooms themselves were nice, though with buckets and water and showers and even hot water being availible it felt like some odd blend of anime or Japanese practice and a massive western-style bathroom like the ones from back home. Kind of? It was all just the closest she could try to define and compare it all to off-the-cuff, but at least the privacy of the individual showers within the Women's Washroom had been nice in her book.

Even the maid she'd nearly friend had gone to simply touch up her clothes for after she took a shower at that, and had left a note simply telling her to 'relax' on them too as Lillianna had found out after she'd gotten out of the shower and found her already-cleaned clothes neatly folded where she'd stored them. And...for a moment, she nearly chuckled at the message as well. At least it put a smile on her face, as silly as the extra reminder was. But perhaps that was the point of it all.

Whatever the case, the mage would pull her clothes on, before extending a hand out to the side and into the air once she had some more space around her. The thing would zip from where it leaned against the wall, luckily with no one in the way between it and its master, landing in the extended left hand of Lillianna comfortably as the mage couldn't help but let a small grin come onto her face as she looked at it. A staff that zipped into her hands at her beck and call? It was...actually pretty cool. Really cool even, almost as much as having and using real magic! But she also had no idea what the staff was either, and that was yet another question on her already-loaded plate as it was. Yes it was a magical staff that came to her hand, but where had it come from? How did it get into the coffin she'd arrived in? Etc.

*RUMBLE GRUMBLE RUMBLE*

Ah.

At the behest of her somewhat irate stomach, and before it could try to stage a strike against her out of hunger, the mage would make her way down to the bar to try to get something to eat. Whaever it was they served here at least. The mixture of things she was seeing certianly made her wonder, though upon seeing Zell and MacKensie sitting at a table she would walk over with her staff in hand to the duo. Though she hadn't been perhaps the most overtly 'happy' person before, even now she had to admit she felt a bit happier after cleaning up and putting on clean clothes for sure. Enough for a small smile to be on her face still, without her realizing it, at least.

"Ah, may I join you both here? I must confess I am a tad famished and-"

*RUMBLE GRUMBLE RUMBLE*

That time it was audible enough for Zell and MacKensie to hear potentially, putting a light flush in the mage's cheeks for a moment before she let out a small sigh of exasperation. She needed to get food in her, and much sooner than later at that.
@Zeroth

Mhm, all of those are some fun skills. I almost want the spirit ash summons lol.

and while Aid would be nice, what would I do if I couldn't perform pure unadulterated violence against the unbelievers.

I choose holy bolt.

Sarvok/Sarena - "I'm here to save you!"

Some Poor Saps - "Oh thank goodness its the cleric and-"

Sarvok/Sarena - "FROM YOURSELVES!!!"

Some Poor Saps - "Oh no its Sarvok."
@Zeroth

Welp, here she be. Instead of questionable science lizard, I instead went with ~religion~ this time.

Hopefully this is acceptable. I left it pretty open ended with the last bit, but I figured it'd make most sense if while she was around with the others she just went off and decided to pray.

Kirei would be proud, Rune. So proud. (T_T)

But if this one starts eating super spicy foods Lazash is keeping her distance. :P
Lazash

“Okay. If we’re really doing this and if there really is something in there for us to fight, then I can only see two ways of going about this. Either we go into the dark were it is…” She raised a hand and extended a finger to point directly at the mouth of the cave. “… or we lure it out to where we are.” The Orc jabbed her finger towards the ground in front of her. “I vote for the second one.”

“Even if it’s asleep right now we still need to light torches so we can see and if that doesn’t wake them then the five of us stumbling around will.”

“Even if we could sneak up on it, we don’t know what it is, how many there are or if we could kill it before it wakes up. If things go bad, there’s only one way out and we’d have to hope it isn’t faster than us. But if we can set up an ambush out here and then lure it out into the open, we can at least see what we’re fighting and it’ll be up to us where and when we fight. And we’ll have an easier time escaping if we need to run.”
Akeno

Ah.

Before she could respond with any sort of comment or thoughts of her own, Lazash got another message from this "SYSTEM" that was keeping up with them. Like it was some kind of video game they were living in, as it were, or some kind of digital simulation. Yet it was and felt and had been real enough for them as it was thus far.

Hmm. Curious. Whatever the case, she had to choose something for an upgrade before they did anything else. Esfir was striking it out off on her own, and the rest of them were left to deal with the cave and their quarry. They needed to get moving.

Quest: Find Something to Eat and Bring it Back Whole

  • Kill a Creature

Ingested New Creature: Elwet

Learned Skill: Fire Bolt

Explored Areas: Orc Camp, Forest, North Caves

LEVEL UP!
Choose ONE:

  • Increase HP (Health)
  • Increase MP (Magic)
  • Increase SP (Stamina)
  • Gain 1 Skill Rank Point
SYSTEM:Lazash

She would choose Increase MP (Magic) in this case. No use ranking up a skill if it cost too much to use potentially, in the case of her Fire Bolt at least, and next level she could see if a skill rank point might empower her analysis skill to boot. Well, such felt like a good plan for now unless the situation changed and she had to adapt with it. It paid to be....flexible, as it were. Yet now she felt she had a chance to speak, and would pipe up finally after her own bit of silence.

"I agree, Akeno, it would be far more advantageous to bring whatever is in there to us. Torches are also a wise decision if we head inside. However, I propose an idea for how we lure out whatever lies inside since we've no idea if it eats meat or not.

I suggest one or two of us go in and lure it out. Make noise, throw rocks from the ground, roar, seem like predators entering the cave, and even in my case fling out a Fire Bolt to try to disturb whatever is in there. Make whatever is in there panic and flee out of the cave or make it angry enough to pursue us to where the ambush await just outside of the cave."

Akeno's plan was agreeable and sound, but she felt that the method of bringing out whatever was in there would be the key then. And that hadn't been addressed as of yet either. Yet they had no idea if these creatures were carnivorous or hebivorous, ate insects or were willing to devour Orc runts like themselves, etc. In that vein, something like a bat might spook and try to fly out whilst something like a bear....well, that would be a far different story maybe.

"In that vein I volunteer myself for heading inside to draw attention or stir things up or lure them out. Well, unless just one other individual here would wbe willing to come inside with me to do this."

Groggy panic, if such a thing was viable, felt like a good state to impair a prey animal's senses and mental faculties. Or even just making it groggy and angry and suddenly awoken from its slumber. Either way make it act on instinct and have to do so fast. Not the safest plan, but it felt reliable enough. The female Orc Runt also had faith in being able to make a mess and ruckus going in there, draw attention or cause a panic or such, and at that be able to analyze whatever was living in there if she got the chance. Another individual would make the ruckus they could stir up that much louder and potentially more effective as well, but reallly wasn't nessecary since she could do it alone if needed.

The sooner they got started, though, the sooner they could have their kill and bring it back to complete the quest. If it was multiple smaller creatures, then, it would perhaps be optimal for them all in such a case. One big kill from a group might not fulfill the quest, for all she knew, but it would be worth a shot if thhey managed it before it got late enough in the day that whatever was in there woke up properly.

Update is up! Hopefully I didn't miss anything this time. Also, I'll try to get around to updating NPC/World tabs and whatnot at some point. @Crusader Lord I think I came up with a workable way to have the Runts sort of move on without Esfir, without straight up rocks-falling anybody or being too egregious with puppeteering.@Unkown58Sorry that I missed your question! Still need info?

@Rune_Alchemist@Timemaster@Kaga Classs@Ashh@Steel Legion
Since we've had a few dropouts, I wanted to drop you folks a notice if you still had interest in joining! Given the pace of things has been fairly manageable (a few blips on my part notwithstanding) I'll lift the original "10 players" restriction for you all so anyone who wants to throw a CS out here, feel free! Also, apologies--I think I missed replying to some of you when you originally posted, I didn't mean to be rude!

:O

Health, MP, or Stamina? Or just dive into a skill point and rank-up one of Lazash's two existing skill? Hmm...
Lillianna

"Well, at least that blasted cube is out of our hands now. Including my own among those."

Lillianna would make a comment as she came back to reunite with Fenna, though it would admittedly be delivered with a sense of mild frustration in the mage's voice. It certainly on her end didn't encapsulate her feelings in total about everything that had happened regarding that thing, nor told fully how it had shaken her in ways yet to settle down fully within her, but at the same time she didn't quite mind that for the time being. Tiredness and a good cry and such had been enough to at least get her head back on her shoulders in general, and maybe if she could get some sleep in a proper bed it'd be something helpful. Not as soreness-inducing as her homemade shelter back there, though, if nothing else.

But with how close she'd come to death it had been certainly an experience of sorts, one that based on 'adventurers' existing perhaps was not as rare as she wished it was. How did people around this world deal with such traumas and near-death experiences being so close to them all of the time? She had no clue, or perhaps there were a lot of retired adventurers or something, but she'd have to inquire later.

Though speaking of that, she would have to inquire at the Church of Iris, just as Lucy had told her to do. Not that she would be able to today, as time was rapidly moving along enough as it was, but tomorrow would be better. Or at least before they left on whatever mission they had taken on, just in case anything could be worked out along the way. She was curious, if nothing else, and perhaps even a bit...hmmm...she couldn't imagine what the man back in the Mazy Hillocks had been through, but still wanted to help others regardless of his own spiritually-stuck situation. Perhaps both literally and metaphorically, for all she knew.

The mage felt thankful that Fenna had waited on her, at least, though did somewhat feel bad about the matter of making the other woman wait a bit longer. At the same time, she would follow along quietly the rest of the way with her to the Mended Drum where the others had seemed to gravitate to as well. Yet aside from Joji's disappearance, which was of some concern, she was at least glad everyone else seemed to have gravitated back to a common location. Perhaps they could even find a room here? She had seen some people staying around in some rooms on the way up to talk to Lucy initially back at the Guild, if nothing else, but ultimately that wasn't her call to make alone. It in the end depended on how everyone else wanted to go about it really. MacKensie had seemingly gone off on her own still, but at this pooint the mage didn't mind it. She wasn't the Frenchwoman's boss or such, and her own wish of traveling together back to where the others were certianly wasn't the be all end all of things either.

"Bartender, a drink for my comrade!"

"Bartender, a drink for my comrade!"
A Very Zell-ous Social Drinker

As her and Fenna came into the Mended Drum, and came up to where the bar was proper, the telltale voice of the group's fighter. Drink? Certinaly not something she wanted to indulge in a bunch of, but certainly one or two mild enough ones wouldn't be the worst either. Keep it mild and simple, see how the spirits here were different or similar enough to those of their former home. Not that this last little factt wouldn't also take its time to sink in, really, but they had to keep moving or risk getting swept up in whatever mess they'd become entangled with due to the cube and Witch Queen and so forth. Also that stupid water ninja...ugh.

Her next comment would be directed at the bartender as she sat down.

"One small glass of something much lighter, if you have any, and a cup of fruit juice along with that as well if you've any."

Well, she was at least consistently sounding a bit more tired now after all of that. But she figured a small taste of something and then some fruit juice to wash things down would at least be better than the alternative. Certinaly it was within what she felt was appropriate for herself at least. Sure she wasn't with her uncle, but she felt that his habits and ideas for drinking were at least good ones. Safe ones. Healthier ones. But that was simply her perspective on the matter, as it were.

The bartender looked into her eyes for a moment, before giving a silent nod and grabbing her something as she plopped herself on a stool at the bar. Not too long after, a cup of dark blue-colored juice with hints of green appeared in front of her alongside a small shot-type glass of something that smelled like spirits. The former she certainly had a large cup of, and its smell was...curious. Like blueberries and mint had a baby, and as she took a first tiny sip of it she raised an eyebrow. The flavor was peuculiar, but nice. Like blueberries and blackberries had a baby, spiked it with a little mint, and then blurred the lines of what it was made from until it seemed a tiny bit citrus-y as well somehow. Somehow. Then came her attempt to shotgun the spirit she'd ordered, which true to form burned her mouth and on the way down. On the other hand, it seemed to have a pleasant deep and caramelized roasted nuttiness to them...and somewhat of a grape-like wine quality to them as well. It was reminiscent of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, actually, but distantly so and with its own identity.

Meanwhile, as the mage returned to her purely fruit juice drink, she could see MacKensie and Zell talking farther down sitting next to each other. It was certinaly something, but feeling somewhat bad about her prior sneakiness she opted to not listen in or try to get too close. Fenna likewise seemed to order some ale to carry back to her room, and Adam was nowhere to be seen either at the same time. Hmm. It made her feel a bit lonely, to be truthful, but the silence she found as her thoughts turned inward and she had put some though and reflection on the things she was drinking was also a bit welcome perhaps. A little bit nice, taking her mind off of some of the things she'd seen and been through.

Even though the wound was gone in full, not a trace left, she felt an intrusive but phantom-like sensation in the area when she thought back on the incident of being stabbed and self-electrocuted. Ah. One of the downsides to having a memory that couldn't really forget things....sometimes even the sensations stuck with her. Yet it had been a rather fresh event in her life, and so she hoped in the coming days and beyond (depending on how things went for them all) that the memory could be helped along to fade even just a bit. Any less precision of that burning electrocution, and the swiftness and warmth and sting of her impalement, would be welcome perhaps. At the same time, she....she had....she had felt worse, right? At least not physically. An imploding family had been enough of a mess to live through as it was before this as it was. Yeah...that...that certianly was right, even if it only made her feel worse.

"Hey guys do you have a second, I got a thing that requires the whole party's attention"
Are You Sirius?

Though just before she could raise her head to ask the bartender about what he'd given her in more detail, having lied her head down on the counter to rest it a bit after finishing her drinks, James seemed to pop in and beckon her over. In fact, it seemed he had gone about gathering them all up where he could to talk to them in one of the open rooms. It was enough to get the mage to curiously come along, though given he was the group leader it also made sense something like that might happen as well.

But what could he need to tell them?

...

...

...

...Ah. Well that certainly was a relevant issue they had now. Not unless Zell wished to try what many teenaged or evne adult 'tanks' on MMO's couldn't seem to feasibly do in her experience. Not that she'd wish that on him or anyone else, frankly, but it was the first parallel she made in her mind after James finished filling them all in on things. Well, unless Joji came back.

"So what do you guys think? I believe we could use another frontline fighter, but I would understand if some of you weren't happy involving more people"
James "Gotta' Ketchum All" Sirius

"I think it would be wise to accept the help. An experienced warrior of the Church would be useful, especially for our next task. And, as an aside, we might risk unnecessarily offending the Church if we refuse."
MacKensie, The Ever Trydant & True Friend

"If he understands the risks and wants to join us, I have no objections," she said. "We have a gold contract waiting for us and we can probably use the help, especially if he is from here. We know too little about this world, I'd feel better having a native with us." She paused for a moment. "And I'm not in the contracts for the fame and glory, I'd be happy to share that with anyone who can help us, I just want to know what the message is that is waiting for us."
Not The Group Mom, But She Is A Mother Herself

"I mean, sure, why not?" he said. His arms were folded as he coolly leaned against the wall. "Not that me and Joji aren't more than enough to handle the job up front. We'll be fine now that we're stronger. But no sense in refusing an extra hand if it's offered. Bring the man aboard."
He Isn't Mar-selling Himself Short Here

"I agree we need what help we can get as non-natives to this world, including in battle now so more than ever, and not offending the local clergy would be wise if we were to need help from them later. All in all, I also believe we should take on this new party member."

Everyone made their own points she agreed with, or not in certain areas, but overall Lillianna felt that bringing on a new member was agreeable. Was it a risk if it was anyone who might react bad to them being from another world? Sure, but in such a case they had survived worse as long as this new person wasn't a water ninja secretly in disguise....he wasn't, was he? Eh, likely not unless he was 'that' good for some obtuse reason. What had even happened to him in the first place after all of the electrocution and such anyway?

Whatever the case, the mage would find herself returning to her own room to rest after James had finished talking with them and getting a group opinion on the matter. In that vein, it seemed they would indeed be getting that new member for their party. It was nessecary, she felt, after they had lost two back in the Mazy Hillocks. Not that she...well....she wasn't trying to simplify deaths, but if they wanted to keep living they needed to be practical to a certain extent with accepting help and keeping an eye on things. Right? So in that sense she-...wait! She still needed to ask someone about what had happened back there after she'd starting electrocuting herself and the water ninja! Curses! She remembered, but other matters had been on her mind. Ugh.

Perhaps later she'd get a chance, at least?

Apologies everyone but I've been dealing with some stuff and haven't been able to sit down and think on some updates. I'll get an extra day off because of the 4th so hopefully if I don't get anything done this weekend I can get a midweek update out instead.

Since we've lost a few members at this point I'm also considering getting in touch with some of the people who expressed interest after we'd reached our initial quota. Feel free to show hands if you'd be for or against that or have any other concerns about how the RP's currently going.

I'll get in a post this week, but can understanding having to deal with some stuff IRL and such. Do whatever you need to do man, this last week blew up in my face a bit and has had me reeling a bit. (@_@)

As for how the RP is going? I think well so far! We are working at some skill gain and progress in this initial part, which has been enjoyable in my opinion, so once we all get done with the starting quest and such as well we seem primed to get into more things at the Orc Camp perhaps! :D

Though I would like an idea of how to handle ERode leaving, if you have any ideas, also idk if orc cannibalism is ok and would give her cool skill to someone either as mostly just an aside. I'll try to have Lazash in my coming post maybe try to help keep things together however we handle the loss of Esfir or such.

Also no qualms with old and new faces being brought into this RP either.
Lillianna

"Interesting."
Clarissa the Curious

Lillianna wouldn't admit it openly, but as small weight felt as if it had come off of her back simply to be taken seriously in this exchange of information. Not that she'd had the chance to tell the others about all of those particular details either, though, as they hadn't had the time. There had been far more pressing matters at the time, with her mostly having an opening to give a warning as theyy were hurriedly trying to delvier the cube to Valheim and all of that. Then came the Mazy Hillocks. Seeing the dead. Getting jumped by angry wolves. Impalement by a cyborg water ninja. Self-electrocution. Nearly dying. Sitting in limbo, for all she knew, as she apparently slept-talk and got carried into Valheim for care. Setting a room on fire and nearly electrocuting two poor staff as she panicked while waking up.

All of those events and occurences before she'd met back again with the remainder of the party, really, had taken precedence over talking about two little things regarding the cube and her experiences with it. Well, at least that was her perspective on it all. She had no idea what the other group members around her would be thinking in this case.

"Second Chance. You've kept your word in delivering this to us. I'll be sure to keep everything you've told me, firmly in mind while we investigate this cube. I'm sure you've got better places to be.

And I'll be quite busy tonight, myself, now. The Academy is open to you during daylight hours, but I'm afraid those hours have passed today, so if you don't mind taking your leave, that would be lovely."

"Oh, and thank you. I don't want to jinx anything, but this might be big for The Free Peoples of The Empire.

And if nothing else, it will be a bit of fun for me."
Clarissa

Alright! Cube delivered, explanation given, it was time to get out of there and away from the drama of the past day or so. Relax, take some time to think, anything to get away from that. The mage personally felt as if a fancy meal or soaking spa visit could do her wonders, though she had no idea how much money she had. Wait. The group had been given money, yes? But they had to pay for-...ah. Her medical care. Well, if her portion had been used for that she wouldn't blame them. Was only fitting she pay for her own medical care after the stunt she had pulled back there...unless they were going by American prices here, in which case she would likely need to thnk about selling a kidney and doing odd-jobs foor the next decade plus to pay it off beyond that. Ugh...

"I forgot to ask..." she stopped a dozen steps outside the office, then half-turned back, before hesitating. Then she simply said to her friends, "There is no need to wait for me. I will find you at the hotel."
Mac Mac, Come Back!

Eh? Wait, she was just going to be doing something else and letting them 'go on ahead'? Really? And there was a hotel around here?! She was seriously behind on the 'understanding the local area' bit compared to the others, even if reasonably so, but she wouldn't lie if she didn't say she wasn't both curious about what MacKensie wanted to ask and likewise a little reluctant to split off more members of the group to just 'go on ahead' in this instance. Not after all of that nonsense and near-death and heaven-knows what the others had witnessed back there, and what remained of the group had waited on her back at the hospital she'd nearly set on fire. It would just make her...well...worry, especially while she was still trying to come down from what little remained that admitteddly draining emotional high she'd been on when hug-crying into the Frenchwoman and such.

In that vein, the mage paused again and quickly held up a hand in a quiet 'please wait just a second' gesture to Fenna before jotting off after MacKensie toward Clarissa's office. She had no idea if the other woman would wait, but if Fenna left then the mage wouldn't judge her really. All of this stuff through now had been exhausting enough.

"MacKensie! Certainly we will not just leave you here, not after-"

She would, however, not seemd to catch her teammate's attention. Nor would she get there in time to hear everything MacKensie had asked, seeing the other woman having opened and slipped into the office once more. Yet as she came up to the door and nearly moved to open it, the mage would suddenly freeze in place and go silent as she heard the last few words MacKensie spoke to the other woman through the door crack. Not that it was very loud.

"I'm sorry, I have so many questions. We are so very new to this world."
MacKensie

She would pause once more...and then after some seconds of visible thought put her ear gently to the door as she tried to listen further. The mage was certainly a bit curious, really, what the other woman had asked. Not that she was trying to be too, er, 'invasive' really. If it seemed personal she'd pull back and silently walk off to Fenna again, didn't want to get that intrusive into someone else's life like this, but if it was some good general information then perhaps it warranted a listen in her mind.

Certainly as Clarissa spoke again she heard the information, and tactical information as well as mention of something called the 'Voidling Princes of the Oblivion Plane' certainly caught her attention. Extraplanar beings, perhaps? Most likely. Though the situation of the nation they had been tossed into was certianly not a good thing either. To her mind, MacKensie had asked some reasonably informative questions most likely! Not that she couldn't do so, but such a thing hadn't been on her own mind after everything either. Or pehaps on anyone else's minds, for all she knew. So it was a good 'save' for them in that sense, really, addressing the general situation as soon as they could learn about it.

And yet the last bit of the other mage's response would stop the mage's train of thought in place once more.

"What do you mean; you're 'new to this world?' Where are you from?"
The Curious Clarissa Being Certainly Quite Curiouser

...Oh.

Yes, people being pulled in from another world was not something she assumed happened normally at all. As for whom they should tell about it, however, that was certianly another matter altogether. If they told the wrong people, even in this nation, perhaps they might be detained or locked up for information or whatever else the worst case could be. Or simply look like lunatics, perhaps, as another alternative. On the other hand, being truthful was one good way to open up genuine channels about the matter with others given their lack of local knowledge....or it could play into the hands of other internal politics or something potentially.

Yes she could be being a tad too negative about things, pessimistic actually being a better term she supposed, but even if the party had won her over enough the rest of the world hadn't. Not everyone was the same, or the most trustworthy, even if Lillianna herself gave some admitted credit to Clarissa for actually listening to her and the others. Hmm.

Opening the door, and pretending and acting as if she'd just opened it and hadn't heard a thing, Lillianna would pop her head into the door and give a small 'grunt' to let the two know she was present there. She would then try to play out her act proper as she looked at the two women, trying to seem lightly surprised before giving an apologetic look to Clarissa before looking at MacKensie in particular.

"Ah...ahem. Apologies, I just wanted to let you know that I'll be waiting for you just outside the front entrance. I still need to check with Fenna, however, about if she wishes to take up your offer to go ahead in the meantime."

Smooth. Believeable? She had no idea. Awkward? Well, it certianly felt like such on her part in the genuine sense and would hopefully help her little act there in being convincing.
