Great, a fight, Ashé lamented to himself. He glanced at each of the men huddled by the campfire, the one who informed him of an ensuing conflict sharing features with his people; it had been some time since he saw a familiar face, but then again, the last time he did, it was marred with murder and betrayal. However, the young man's accent differed from those of Yanoibi, or its surrounding peoples.

He removed his backpack and sighed. Pulling down on his scarf—revealing his soft, bronze visage adorned by stubble—he replied, "Really? Perhaps I should find some place safer, yes?"
A sudden gust came from the left, the open moonlit surroundings making the swell of air more akin to the growl of a stalking beast. Ashé grunted and clenched his staff. Even underneath his black robe, head wrappings that exposed only his eyes, and padded clothing, the cold air disturbed him, or maybe it was the thought of it. Whatever the case, he held the bladed end forward and continued towards the dim light on the hill.

"At least home has trees," he said aloud, looking in all directions.

He sighed as he reached the base of the hill without conflict. He glanced at his staff and noticed the slightly chipped edge and sighed once more, releasing his will of the magical essence he had long been familiar with.

After a steady climb, he loosened the canteen from his waist and uncorked it. He pulled down on his scarf and took one large swallow of water. He glanced at the tent and gave a brief dismissing smile when he heard chattering.

He covered his face once more and tended to his canteen. Advancing his steps, he said, in an accented tone, to no one in particular, "Pardon me. I mean no you harm. I only seek a safe night's rest."

Awkward, Nehsi thought as he slipped his hand back in the pocket of his sweater. Even alone he struggled at such basic matters. He watched bodies in the distance and wondered what it was they were playing at. Whatever made them joyous, he did not wish to intrude. A new, unexpected presence could complicate things, he reasoned with an imagined inquisitive tone. Probably best to read a book anyway.

He turned around and proceeded to the cabins.
I had them on a weekly basis when I was a child, sometimes multiple times in night, and scarcely in the past few years. When it felt like I woke up, I would go back to sleep.
Do I just include my character myself and join, or wait for approval?

"Funny," Nehsi said quietly as he approached the campfire. He would have to introduce himself before the very thing that ultimately brought him to the camp, and as he got closer, his stomach became more contorted, his fingers clenching in the pockets of his hooded sweater, a far cry from his composed self hours before arriving. He heard stories of others existing amongst humanity, and to finally meet them, to know. It was an amalgam of joy and trepidation, and perhaps even anger.

The chatter of the group increased in volume. He pulled down on his hood and sighed. He gave an unsure wave and repeatedly shifted his gaze from the fire to them.
Okay, I'm reloa--decided to join. Do I just state my character arrived at night and then introduce myself to all of the people there? And to clarify, this does take place in our world, right? The setting said modern but that does not have to mean our world.
