Alpha Centauri the star system, or some kind of book or movie? Either way, no. I'm sure there were some things that inspired me though, that I subconsciously drew inspiration from. But nothing specifically.

I was referring to the classic video game designed by Firaxis way back in the day, in which a sleeper ship malfunctions shortly before planetfall and the colonists split off into different factions with different ideologies. It's notable for having memorable secret projects and leaders, each with rather well written in-universe quotations:
Out of curiosity, were you inspired by Alpha Centauri? :)
Would a Dragon mind living in a 'village' with no name, out in the middle of nowhere? Yeah, I can't see the Squirrel Cult reacting to a Dragon terribly well. :)
So we'll be a council of Dorfs. I recommend burning the invading elves with lava.

Little known fact, the Hegemony also sponsors the Budweiser NASCAR team.

They also sponsor College Football teams. :p

Its good to see interest!Dervish is correct however, this is not about controling entire races, but criminal organisations. You could have a group sponsored by but not officially related to the Hegemony, but not the hegemony themselves...

Well, that's what I intended to play as, so... Excellent. >:D

While I'm not GMing this one, I've been talking with Sunny D since he's had this idea cooking over the past couple of months. This RP's going to be about criminal organizations, mercenary companies, and so on, not entire races or military factions. So in short, batarian faction good. Khar'shan/ Hegemony faction bad.

Understood. I'll just play as a band of Slavers, or a Pirate crew. I would play as a group of Batarian Terrorists, but I feel that may get too close to a Hegemony faction.
Indeed. Super perfect characters/Mary Sues are not just annoying, but a pain in the ass to deal with. If a Mary Sue/Gary Stu get's accepted by the GM for some incomprehensible reason, I often try to rally the other player's together and take out the Sue (or at least weaken him or her severely). But my attempts are almost always in vain; we all start infighting and get shredded by the Mary Sue republic with relative ease, even when we hold all the advantages! Bloody hell.

I do have a gripe with character assassinations and bastardizations in not just roleplay, but in fanfiction in general. Kakashi isn't a asshole who favors Sasuke, Celestia isn't a evil Despot that lobotomized Derpy, and the cast of Harry Potter aren't 'Goffs.' If you want to show a character in a negative light, say having Harry disliking Ron, then why not have Harry apart of a different house? Have Harry see the more negative aspects to Ron's personality as he was raised differently, instead of having Ron 'go Death Eater' right out of frikkin nowhere.

One more; I'm a bit tired of everyone playing Ultra Liberal Activists straight out of the 1969 (not that there's anything wrong with Woodstock :p). This isn't something pertaining to my personal beliefs; this is more similar to a trend growing stale. That, and I'm not a fan of 'fixing' settings just to fit the RPer's political, religious, or sociological beliefs. Especially when it gets the point where they actively demonize characters and then have their characters start ranting for no reason. This also applies to fanfiction, but I can understand why some people would enjoying playing that character.
I'm interested.

The damn Humans shall regret crossing the Hegemony.
"Constantine and the Legions have sailed down to Gaul in a foolish bid for the Empire, abandoning us Britons to the mercies of the Picts. And now people are even whispering that even the Great City of Rome has fallen, with the Goths ravishing the women, laughing while the Empire burns. But while it looks bleak now, we can't lose hope, for if all hope disappears we shall be nothing but lambs heading to the slaughter, and may as well bow to the savage Germans and let them rape our women. We can't lose ourselves to misanthropy... We must survive... We must fight."

"While it's true that the Empire may have fallen to the Barbarians, remember that we still live while others lay slaughtered like pigs upon blood soaked fields in Gaul, Iberia, Greece, and even in Italia itself. I, for one, refuse to let that happen to we Britons! We shall fight and drive the Barbarians back to the sea! We shall fight for our women's maidenhood, our children's freedom, the memory of Octavius, and in the name of the lord. The savage heathens and their cruel gods shall lay dead by our hands, and Britannia shall arise from the ashes as the greatest child of Rome."

"A new Empire that will exterminate the Barbarians, reclaim the Empire, rebuild the eternal city, and ascend to heights that even Caesar himself would be envious of."
