Evidently, Vincent had nerves of steel. This is because, as a green slime and arrow both cut through the air in his direction, he managed to inexplicably stay completely still. Truly, this is a talent that will help him in the future. Do your best, Vincent.

At any rate, the turn of combat against the slimes went...predictably. For these meager existences that had precisely one wholly inefficient, telegraphed, and non-nuanced method of attack, even an eleven year old would be capable of designing a means of countering them in little time. It was almost like the Labyrinth was mocking these adventurers, giving them fodder such as this.

Alexander's blade cut through the Slime aimed at himself, before managing to pierce one on the nearby ground. With its lack of control over its body, the Slime was unable to move its core in time with Alexander's attack. Like that, the Ares Guild member managed to fell two slimes.

Senna's arrow naturally hit its mark. While a moving target, a Slime was not particularly difficult to hit for a trained ranger; its trajectory was obvious, after all.

The mass of slime shrunk back, now only a single core visible in it as it wobbled about almost uncertainly. It seemed to have managed to gain authority of some of the slime that composed its fallen brethren, which was at least somewhat interesting. It, however, did not make any moves to attack. It just sort of laid there on the floor, panicking.
The mass of pale green Slime amalgam had expanded to roughly two meters in radius by the time Vincent had made it to the center of the room, with the slime-coated flasks in the center of the "puddle". It seemed to stop after that point, deciding that going any further was stretching itself too thin, for some reason or another. Given the newfound proximity of the adventurers, they would be able to make out four cores embedded in the slime puddle, from where they stood.

When Alexander and Vincent neared it though, the puddle became alight. Around two of the cores, the puddle seemed to "recede", leaving the cores with only the slime that they personally controlled. Two dark green gelatinous masses formed on the ground almost immediately; considering their speed, this could actually be considered impressive.

And then, they leapt. Tactlessly, mindlessly, the two blobs flew at the heads of their foes, while the remaining slimes in the puddle filled the gap left by their departing friends.

Nothing seemed to happen. The stillness of the second floor remained, unbroken. Was it possible that this was a trap, and that already, on the mere second floor, the monsters had gained a capacity for "patience"? If so, then-

Oh, no, wait, something's happening. Never mind.

From the center of the room where the vials stood, the gelantinous substance covering them seemed to melt outwards, expanding from the center to coat the floor. It seemed to be of the same green hue as the one that covered the vials, but...thinner, more diluted. Judging from the currently-expanding volume, it was reasonable to assume that there were multiple slimes present in this sprawl, but their cores weren't immediately visible.

And the sprawl marched on. Efficient. Deadly. Really fucking slow.
The second floor was...different from the first. While the stone "decor" was no different, rather than a tunnel, upon descending the steps the group would be met with a singular, open, circular room. The room was notable in size; while the staircase that led to the third floor was visible, directly on the opposite side of the room, it would probably take a couple of minutes of walking before one could reach it, if not longer.

Strangely enough, the second floor looked, at first glance, to be empty. The only obvious exception was the presence of two glass flasks in the dead center of the room. Senna alone would notice that the flasks and their contents seemed identical to the ones she had personally found mere moments earlier. However, the flasks seemed to be covered with a vibrant green, gelatinous substance.

Weird.
There were no hellbeasts. There was no squish. There was no slime killing. There were no slimes.

A short distance down the tunnel, the first floor seemed to end, a mangled stone formation like some sort of misshapen statue placed next to a downward staircase. One of considerable inductive and deductive might could stand to reason that said staircase was how one could enter the second floor of the Labyrinth.

Besides that, there wasn't a whole lot to write home about. No monsters, no cool stuff, no-

Wait.

Pressed against the cave wall next to the staircase entrance, half-tucked behind the weird statue thing, was a glint of light. Further examination would reveal two flasks containing a viscous, gross-looking, light green liquid.

Maybe it was the Goblin's treasure?
Eh what the hell, I'm in. When in Rome do as the Romans... see what I did there?

No.
As Alexander cleaned his armor off with Senna standing guard, nothing seemed to happen. It appeared that there weren't any approaching monsters; maybe those three Goblins and two Slimes were the entirety of this floor's monsters? Only heading further into the tunnel of the first floor would tell for sure.

Incidentally, Alexander's efforts to wipe off the slime would be largely successful, enough that it wouldn't affect his movement much when dried, but for a complete job he'd need some water.

You know, while those two are standing around here, now would be a good time for other people to show up.
You had me at the title, I'm in~
Alexander's strike was a success. Against the existence known as the punching bag of RPGs everywhere, it would be disgraceful were anything else to have happened. The slime's core was pierce by his sword and disintegrated a moment later. However, the slime's motion did not come to a stop, and the quivering mass continued to fly through the air.

As it was aiming for Senna's head, this meant it struck Alexander on his chest, a rather large quantity of slime sticking to it. The same served for the sword he had used to kill the monster. It didn't seem to be harming him in any way, but...well, it was kind of disgusting.
The arrow sliced through the air, its target being one of the slimes that stood before the pair of adventurers. Its speed, far surpassing the realm of humanity, was beyond the capacities of the slimes to react to.

It began and ended in an instant. The arrow flew into the slime, puncturing through its mighty surface tension. Its speed slowed but still considerable, it cut through the slime, gouging out a hole in the rock that floated in the middle of it. and then stopped upon the tip of it striking the ground; the slime's considerable viscosity had slowed it enough to where it thankfully didn't break.

Meanwhile, the rock wasn't a rock. Shocking. Wow. It was a core. Shocking. Wow.

You beat a slime. Congrats. You should be really proud.

The core-with-a-hole-in-it simply disintegrated in the middle of the slime, crumbling into a cloud of black dust that then melted away in the slime's fluid. The slime, lacking the power that animated it, simply melted to the floor in a puddle of the gelatinous mass.

The slime's brother, however, was not so easily vanquished.

Inexplicably, impossibly, it leapt.

While Senna had prepared her arrow, and a mere moment after she had loosed it, it had finished its preparations. The second slime jumped from the ground, a quivering, amorphous sphere that flew through the air towards the head of the nearest human: Senna.

Behold, its transcendent might.
