Description: An cattle rancher with light insomnia and anxiety issues stemming from constant worry about whether he's doing enough work or pulling his weight.

Personality: Can be quite hyperactive and energetic at times, yet constantly worried about other peoples feelings and trying to make sure everyone is happy. Becomes uneasy around confrontation and tries to avoid them as much as possible, but when pushed to far has been known to become quite angry when defending people he cares about.

Appearance: Caucasian and standing at 5'11" with shoulder length brown hair, a full beard and hazel eyes. Weighs roughly 140lbs and is fairly toned with little-to-no body fat. Usually wears a trucker cap with sun goggles and has septum, labret, tongue and ear piercings.

Physical capacity: Good with short distance sprinting and able to walk long distances. Can lift heavy loads as a result of moving pallets of 80lb bags of cement, cattle feed, etc.

Backstory: Lachlan, originally born in Australia, started out working various jobs after High School, working in hospitality and retail and even studying to become a High School teacher and Psychologist at one point. This was until he was offered a ranch hand position at a small cattle ranch close to the Mexican Border. For the next few years it was his job to brand, mark, herd and care for cattle. Most of his day-to-day duties involved building barbed and net-wire fences, repairing water lines, tractor work, cutting steel, mixing and pouring cement and heavy lifting as well as learning how to administer subcutaneous injections involving vaccines and antibiotics. He was also required to become knowledgable in various kinds of pesticides and insecticides necessary for livestock care.
Another aspect of his livelihood involves illegal immigrants that travel across the property after having crossed the border, requiring constant dealings with Border Patrol and requiring him to have several guns and weapons on hand, including machetes,, knives, axes and even a sword. Lachlan has also learned how to hunt, skin and gut game and load his own bullets provided he has the necessary shells and equipment.

Weapon of choice: Baseball Bat, Handgun.

Fears and weaknesses: Has a reasonably manageable fear of the dark.

Interests: Lachlan is actually an avid gamer and loves to read, carrying several books and handheld gaming devices with him at any one time, such as a PS Vita and 3DS. He also enjoys learning languages and carries a mobile device with offline Memrise lessons installed as well as several audiobooks including fiction and historical lectures. The lessons included on his device at the moment are Russian, German, Old English, Latin, Gaelic Irish, Japanese and Mexican Spanish.

Other: Living on a ranch where internet is poor and suffering from constant blackouts, Lachlan has learned to install solar panels and small, private wind turbines. He also carries handheld solar chargers for his gaming devices and cell phone as well as two handheld radios and the necessary chargers that can communicate via radio tower or direct communication. Lachlan also holds an amateur radio license. He also speaks a small amount of Russian and German and is a Black-tip in Taekwondo.

I know what you mean. One of the reasons I want to flesh out their biographies and spell section is because I feel like I'm not putting enough thought into the character if I don't and run the risk of them being just some two-dimensional Mary Sue or Brooding Bobby. That doesn't apply to everyone's characters, just the way I get conscientious with mine. I actually created Losian as a bit of a challenge for myself. I've never been good at 'bad guys' and wanted to try to kind of 'expand my repertoire' as it were.

EDIT: Updated Losian's spells a little. Still wanting to work on them more, though.

It may just be me but it's always seemed like writing less than 500 words is a bit of a cop out when applying for something like a lost magic slot. Maybe it's just because I'm relatively new to the site, is that sort of length the norm for such a thing? I do appreciate how you feel like it should be extended though Daeg, it's just something I've noted on other Rp's too.

It all depends of the person, the level of writing ability, etc. If my Necropolis character isn't up to scratch, that's ok, I'm not sure I could play too many characters right now. I still need to consult the Fairy Tail wiki to help me expand the spells anyway. I'd largely be looking at Zancrow and Gajeel for inspiration hough, since alot of Losian and Ylcan were written on the fly off the top of my head.

I always thought the idea of transhuman upgrades that were infected by malware, creating zombies was interesting, but that's probably an idea better for another RP :p

But zambies and natural disasters sounds good!

Personality: Ylcan is very much a people pleaser and just wants everybody to be able to get along. He's always trying to see both sides of the story and isn't very good with confrontation. When his friends are threatened however, Ylcan is quick to anger and even quicker to defend. Since leaving his island home, Ylcan has also started living a lifestyle of excess, having been raised in a community without need of currency or many material objects. He's quick to drink and have fun while rarely worrying about the monetary cost.

Arsenal: Ylcan’s hands are adorned with several rings of Rock, Steel, Diamond, Wood, Copper and Gold.

Spells:

Mimic: Unlike other Mimic magic, Ylcan mimics items instead of magic. By touching an material or element, Ylcan can change parts or all of his body to become whatever he's touching (Steel, Water, Fire, Wood, Rock, etc).

Meld: When making contact with the same type of material he is mimicing at that time, Ylcan can become part of that objects, allowing him to move freely through it. If he were mimicing rock for example, he would be able to essentially walk through a rock wall or travel inside the wall itself to get from one point to another.

Assimilate: By coming into contact with whatever he is mimicing Ylcan can make it a part of himself, increasing his size or commanding the item. This would allow him to move tree branches, create spikes along walls, create passageways, etc.. Because of this, he could also take control of a magic users specialty element and turn it against them. If wounded when in his default human form, Ylcan can also mimic a material and use it to heal himself.

Control of Form: Ylcan is able to extend and shape his body when mimicing a material, allowing him to create blades or bludgeoning weapons, even being able to detach parts of his body, which permanently remains the element he was mimicing at that time. Ylcan typically uses this ability to provide himself with gold and jewels when he needs money, but there is only so much that he can detach of himself at any one time before needing to recover.

Shared Mimicry: When touching another person, Ylcan can allow them to mimic whatever he is currently mimicing. He is currently only able to do this with one person at a time.

Biography: Ylcan was actually raised on an offshore island, not far from Magnolia Town. At best, it could be descibed as a hippy commune whose inhabitants specialised in Mimic magic, using their skills to live off the land without much need for outside commerce. They were ill-prepared however for the pirates that caught wind of their specific type of magic and eventually took control of the island, forcing the inhabitants to produce gold, jewels and rare gems for them.
Being a non-violent community, the island was unable and even unwilling to fight against the pirates until Ylcan, barely eighteen at the time, retaliated after witnessing the abuse the pirates would regularly subject the community to. By mimicing and controlling to surrounding plants and water, Ylcan was able to run off the pirates without killing them, sinking most of their ships and convincing them that the island had risen against them. The island elders, while freed, could not condone the fact that he had resorted to violence and he was exiled from the island with his parents hesitantly supporting the decision. While a boat was being prepared to take him to the mainland, Ylcan's mother handed him a slip of paper containing the Fairy Tail guild mark, telling him that while he could not return to the island, he would be able to find a home and a family there.
