Squad One: The Training at the Oasis
Three genin leaped from branch to branch, the greenery around them moving at a blurring speed. Kossetsu was in the middle, eyes narrowed as he gracefully flipped over a rather thick tree-limb. They were also narrowed because of Megumi...
"Seriously Tetsu! I'm not joking! You don't just throw me at people to deal with them because you have no manners! You're supposed to be some high and mighty Hyuuga, one of the most respectable clans this village is supposed to have and you throw a nobody to help an old lady! On top of that old people hate me! What in God's name were you thinking!? Are you so self absorbed as to think such things are beneath you!? You should be begging for the chance to help people and do the right thing! God you're so frustrating and pathetic!" Of course Megumi's rant had been going on since a few minutes after they'd left, and she was definitely never going to let Tetsuo live this down.
"Oh can you just be quiet already! First of all I'm not the only one Left you alone, Kossetsu was also there to help you. About my clan, for me that's just an empty title. Secondly, Why would I care to help people who hate something just because they don't understand it. Third of all I didn't throw you at the lady. I clearly said if you could help her, for Sam's hell, you didn't have to. How should I know old people hate you?! I don't think I'm high and mighty just because I'm a Hyugā. That's an empty title that only comes with pain. And you're talking about self absorb-"
Kossetsu abruptly stopped leaping, two pale hands darting from his sleeves to grab his teammates before they could continue their jumps. Standing on the large tree-branch, the Kaguya fitted them both with a golden-eyed stare, his mouth shifting into a small scowl as he regarded them. "Enough. We're here." He dropped onto the forest floor, walking forward to push away a mess of bushes and shrubs. Sure enough, per the lady's instructions, he could see a beautiful meadow with a large oasis in the middle, with his sensei sitting on said oasis.
Kaito was meditation over the waters. It took a while for these Genin to be here, but that was no surprise afterall, they were just children. He opened his eyes.
"Good. You made it." Kaito slowly put his two fingers vertically, and brought it close to his face. After a few hand signals he said "Earth Release." Soon a pillar rose from the middle of the pond quite a few feet, carrying him up with it.
"Finding here was the first part of your mission - As a team you learn to cooperate."
He stood atop of the pillar.
"Now you will know what a true shinobi looks like. Take me off this pillar and you win." He opened his eyes wide as he said "Go!"
Quickly glaring at Tetsuo at the mention of teamwork, Megumi just wanted to strangle him and throw his limp corpse at their new sensei. That would probably be a bad idea though...Besides that their sensei seemed to be mocking them...putting himself in a position to look down on them, who the hell did he think he was!? She reached to her hair grabbing two senbon and launching them at their sensei hoping to drug him so he'd walk off while he was hallucinating, of course the chances of it being that easy were a little slim...
Tetsuo just stood there. He shook his head.
'Being in this squad might actually be fun.' Tetsuo looked at the senbon's that Megumi threw, he decided to help out a bit and made a hand symbol.
Futon: Gale Palm! Gale palm would increase the Senbon's speed by 3 fold. At the same time, Tetsuo threw some Kunai at the Earth Pillar to use at foot stools, he didn't want to utilize his Chakra a lot. He climbed on the Kunai and began making his way towards his sensei.
Kossetsu paused as his teammates began the Attack on Pillar. Using their assault as a time to think, he rested his hands in his sleeves, eyes narrowing as he regarded the scene. The pillar was made of blatant rock, and he watched the kunai merely fall off - apparently, the metal wasn't thrown hard enough to pierce through. It had to be chakra-enforced; which was a given, considering he used a technique - and chakra - to make the pillar.
Hm...
"Megumi." He said calmly, taking his hands from his sleeves. Mostly as a side-note, he allowed his finger-tips to form small, pellet-like bones. Abruptly, he lashed out with both hands, the calm motion flowing and subtle. Ten drilling bone bullets pierced the air, flying forward at a speed faster than your standard kunai throw - mostly because of the added drilling motion. Five of the bullets smacked into the rocks, only piercing slightly before they fell into the water, while the other five headed towards the sensei. "We should regroup and plan a strategy, rather than rush in..."
"Lesson one." Kaito said as he bent back to dodge the rushing senbons. As he did so, Kaito took out a kunai from his back pocket, and with one swift motion reflected the bones back at Kossetsu's legs. "A shinobi knows when to fight." His stare was cold, as Tetsuo fell down. Kaito did nothing to retaliate. He stood there looking down at the three children.
Tetsuo recovered quickly, as he was trained from a young age. He mustered up his chakra to stand on the water. Fish quickly swam near his feet at the attraction of this new energy. Ripples spread throughout the tranquil pond, and the beasts quited their sounds.
Megumi frowned, then turned slightly to Setsu watching their sensei out of the corner of her eyes. "If you have a plan Setsu please hurry up and tell me!" She whispered somewhat to him and continued, "I want to knock him off his high-horse! That jerk thinks he has a right to look down on us!" At this point she was really irritated at high class people, higher ranking people, and just anything that wasn't her friend really.
Tetsuo looked at his feet.
'Crap, More of them are coming,' He stopped utilizing the water walk, causing the fish to swim away. He began to swim back, utilising his scythe as a row. Once he reached dry land he layed down.
'Okay so the Pillar isn't climbable...what about paper bombs?' He crawled to Setsu. "Hey do you have paper bombs or something of the sort?" Tetsuo asked as he stood back up, putting away his scythe.
The reflected bone-bullets were fast, although, being reflected back, they lost the majority of their speed due to their drilling movement being lost. His hands still in his sleeves, the boy flipped backwards and forwards, eyes calm and inquisitive. Kossetsu didn't even flinch, glancing back over to Megumi once she asked for a plan, and once the five bullets were dodged.
About to reply, he cut himself off as Tetsuo crawled back onto land...and crawled to him. Something poked along his brain - amusement, he noted. "I have exploding tags." He responded simply. This test was going to be a pain to pass, but he had a lot of money, a lot of time, and a discount with the Shinobi Weaponry store, Kayabuki's Armory, he frequented. Taking out a dozen or so kunai, Kossetsu crouched, sleeves covering his hands as he systematically covered the hilts of each kunai with the primed exploding tags, using his palms together, before tilting his head and calculating his throws.
"Okay."
He picked up ten kunai - each ring around his finger, before leaping high into the air and flipping. With the flip, each of the kunai blasted forward in a drilling motion, slicing through the water and slamming against the base of the pillar - deep within the oasis. Landing softly, he rose his fingers up in the ram seal. "Katsu." Several muted explosions rocked to oasis, the sound silenced by the heavy pressures of water.
Fish flew out of the waters in the explosion. They were all burnt and some were gasping for air. Smoke arose, and subsided. However the pillar stood tall. It didn't look even scratched. Due to the explosion. there was a gaping hole that was near the pond that started to drown out the waters. The pool became shallow, as the remaining fish scurried to get away from the damage. Birds stopped singing, the mews of the infants stopped in terror. It was dead silent.
Kaito more or less had the same face as he did before. He knew that these children would be reckless. They did not get his lesson. They did not understand. Nevertheless he continued to stand on top. Looking down at them. Not saying a word but looking at them with cold blue eyes.
Tetsuo began to think about how the fight began. Every time they would attack it would just get deflected or it wouldn't work at all, it was just hopeless.
'Wait Hopelessness...! That's it we can't win!' Tetsuo looked at his sensei. He looked back at Megumi and Setsu. "Oi, Sensei I forfeit And so do these guys. I realized that we can't win. Only by losing may we achieve a greater victory or something like that. We learn from losing, we can't learn anything from winning. Isn't that right guys?" Tetsuo asked finally making sense.
Losing...great victory? Kossetsu frowned, hands in his sleeves to stop anyone from seeing the clenching of his fists. His eyes wandered over the damage his explosions had done; the oasis could be healed with a bit of Doton manipulation, and he promised himself that he would bring a few shinobi over here to fix it as soon as possible. Nature was something to be cherished, after all. But yes...Tetsuo was correct. They couldn't win; apparently this pillar technique was impossible to beat at their stages of skills. "I..forfeit." His voice had an internal sadness that wasn't decipherable by the others. He crouched, head bowed but ears sharp, as he waited.
So after all that fancy show offish stuff, he quit...? Well that was so unencouraging! Whatever, the Hyuuga finally admitted defeat so she supposed that it couldn't hurt..."Fine whatever...I'm out!" Frown heavily hating losing to somone. Who puts themself higher than her. 'It's the lesson after all though so it can't be helped...'
Kaito heard the children's response. He closed his eyes as he spoke
"Lesson Number two - a shinobi knows when to back down."
Then he made a release sign with his hands causing the pillar to go down slowly with a tremble. "I belive you have seen the consequence of not knowing." He said as he looked over at the destroyed oasis.
"Lesson Number three" he said as he made hand seals for a water release. "A shinobi knows when to have compassion." As soon as the words left his mouth water flowed back out of the pond to fill it, and the crack was filled with new sand.
Kaito gently jumped out of the water and to where his students were. He picked a the fish that was caught in the explosion. It's belly was blown off, and parts near it were covered with ashes.
"Life taken away, cannot be returned. Just because we have the ability to do so doesn't make it right." He gave the fish to Tetsuo. "There's more to it than winning." Kaito looked directly at Kossetsu. Then turning to Megumi he said "These three lessons were the first teachings that my sensei had taught me. I hope you all will not forget." He started to walk away from the place, but then stopped. Without turning around he said "Tomorrow, starts your first mission." With that he walked off.
