Mister Luum was quite ready to carefully study Zeva’s demeanor the moment she answered his question but the young elf was much too fast! He nearly gasped as she seized his hand in hers. In an instant, Mister Luum found himself not only captured but stunned by her straightforwardness. He found her mention of it ‘being nice to meet him’ combined with the vigorous shaking of his hand as a subtle threat. It was like she was telling him he was helpless in her grasp. And then, she thanked him for helping her? No, this cannot be. This is… This is madness. Mister Luum’s eyes widened as he was almost in shock by how well she was obscuring her intentions from the others. He was thinking of his next move the moment she released his hand but then she hit him with her slightly extensive backstory. All the way back to her birth?! No! Mister Luum kept up his smile, finding it difficult in the presence of… his foe. Luckily, she got to the point fairly quickly. He was not prepared to dissect an entire autobiography. Then she thanked him yet again, nearly causing him to sneer before hearing Brigitte say she was finished harvesting the owlbear that appeared to have swallowed a few useful items.

“Perfect!” Mister Luum replied with a smile to Brigitte while also giving her two soft pats on the head. When Zeva asked what they were doing there. Her first direct question. One of the traditional first direct questions a militant interrogator would ask. What is your mission? Mister Luum was quite ready to address her when-

"I SAID THAT'S ENOUGH!"

Bardulf’s shout caused the middle-aged elf to whip his head around to him, only to witness a bolt of lightning striking too close for comfort. Bardulf could have very well ended the journey of anyone if the summoned magic made contact with them. As bad as it looked, it did not end there. Bardulf lept forward at breakneck speed while electricity surged across his body. You’re kidding me, right? From the sky? He summoned a lightning bolt from the sky… AND DID NOT USE THAT AGAINST THE OWLBEAR?!?! Mister Luum calmly shut his eyes and took a breath to maintain his usual warm expression but his eyes caught Zeva’s, causing his smile to drop. Now a more neutral expression set upon his face as he absorbed the reality of what had to be done.

While Rue and Bardulf shared an intimate moment of apology and comfort, Mister Luum crossed his arms over his chest and looked toward the now overcast sky. He managed a soft chuckle. You weren’t kidding, Vaeril, you enigma of an elf. They really are quite powerful.

“You will not speak about this to anyone.” Rue’s voice called Mister Luum’s attention before he let out a burst of haughty laughter.

“Voiced threats useless. You should know better than anyone what’s required to keep a secret from being told by another.” Mister Lumm bounced his eyebrows up and down, being both subtle and direct with what his words meant. “But as a group, we are quite bad at killing, so I have a better idea! Zeva…” He returned his excited gaze to the young woman he found to be far too suspicious to simply let go. “How would you like to accompany me and my not-so-merry band of-” He took a moment to look at everyone to find the right word for their group. “Pals? Yes, band of pals! Forget Aegnor Stonel and help us save Avalia. It’s not like Aegnor has a school named after him because he was a prestigious student. Give reason to those new top-of-the-line daggers you’re itching to purchase. Forget about chasing the adventure. The greatest one yet has found you! So what do you say?” Mister Luum gave her a nod, selling Zeva promises of everything she yearned for.

Thank Solaris that her backstory wasn’t too long to commit to memory.

Lorenzo let out a big yawn within the confines of the carriage, feeling rather groggy all of a sudden. However, that is not all he was feeling. A sharp dagger of regret was piercing deep in his gut. It started the moment he shut the carriage door and failed to subside despite his efforts to ignore how unsettled he was. Perhaps I shouldn't have yelled… She just doesn't understand… No one does. Lorenzo's head hung low for the rest of the ride and they reached his home, he, Benjamin, and Nathaniel carried the gifts inside, hauling them up to his room.

“Duke Vikena, I managed with much effort to capture a rooster while you were away and… wait, where is Lady Charlotte?”

“Lottie… Well, she insisted on walking a little of the way back. She ate quite too much of the Alidasht cuisine and didn't want to gas up the carriage. Don't mention this, please. She's already quite embarrassed by it.” Lorenzo didn't enjoy telling a lie, even if it was a small white one but he wished to continue with the night without any more trouble. Nathaniel raised his brows briefly at the strange yet relatable revelation and was unwilling to ask any further questions on the sensitive topic. “But you caught the rooster? Hmm… Um, let him out into the gardens. I think everyone, including the feathered priest will be happier if he isn't within the confines of the house.”

“I think everyone might be happier if I could serve it for tomorrow's lunch!” Gilbert injected from the first floor. Lorenzo chuckled but shook his head.

“No need Gilbert! No need! But while you're still in the kitchen, can you make a batch of cookies for everyone? I won't be partaking so more for everyone else!” Lorenzo called as his eyes met Nathaniel who looked to be waiting for something. And he was. Waiting for Lorenzo to share how the dinner went. The fact that Lorenzo was alive and present was a good enough sign but Nathaniel wasn't so optimistic in believing nothing went wrong. He knew Lorenzo nearly better than anyone, and though Nathaniel hadn't enjoyed watching the late Lady Vikena physically and verbally abuse the man, she kept his innate ability to cause havoc in check to a certain degree. He wanted to know but didn't want to ask, especially if it was a sore subject at the moment.

“Are you calling it a night, my lord?” Nathaniel asked.

“I believe so. I'm going to do some writing. Please ensure the rooster makes it out to the garden, Kier is comfortable, and that Charlotte makes it in. She shouldn't be long.” Lorenzo gave Nathaniel and smiled before taking a half step into his room before pausing. “Hmm… just a moment.” Lorenzo said more to himself as he stepped back into the hall. Nathaniel just stared not knowing what Lorenzo might be doing now. He watched as Lorenzo stepped to the nearest painting to his door and removed something from its frame and tucked it into his inner breast pocket. “That should do.” Lorenzo then continued into his room.

“Well, good night Lorenzo.”

“You as well, my friend. You as well.” Lorenzo finally entered, shutting and locking the door behind him. He needed to unwind and he started by first removing his shoes. “Ahhh. Much better.” He then removed most of his clothing before getting a much-needed warm bath as he hummed a song he had long heard in his childhood. When he was done, he got into his favorite robe, which was dark green on the outside and a lighter green on the inside reminiscent of an avocado. He walked over to the mounted pistol and lightly brushed along it with his fingertips. “Beautiful as ever.” He commented before going to his chest, removing the bulb flask of opium and the gin. He opened them and took a generous swig of both.

A big smile graced his face as he took in a deep breath.

“Finally…” Lorenzo whispered before putting his “medicine” away. “Time to write,” and with that, Lorenzo retrieved his notebook and pen before plopping down on his bed.

The so proud and fierce desert kingdom
Striped tigers and venomed snakes come from
Cuisine of rounded bread and hummus
These royal foreigners among us
Some of them will fall… love or die
Amora, Obitius, decide
A chaptered season of blood and tears
Tis season bring forth all of our fears…

Lorenzo continued, writing and writing, letting the milk of the poppy and alcohol take him again this night.

Time: Morning
Location:Throne Room, Malthemoor

On the magical continent of Avalia existed a cold and unforgiving island. On this island was a deep cavern contained within solid walls of stone. Within the cavern was the grand city of Malthemoor, teeming with the life of those that were banished so long ago. Towering over this city was a castle of crude metal and stone. And within this very castle, sat the most powerful king in Avalia’s history. His heart, though dark, was also kindling. Like a furnace, it produced warmth for his kin and a blistering scorch to his enemies.

He sat firmly on his obsidian throne staring stoically at his subjects entering his dimly lit throne room. It was seemingly a normal preceding that occurred; a daily intelligence update brief of the goings within his kingdom. The briefers were adorned in long dark colored fabrics, kneeling several feet away. Besides the king who sat silently, their audience included his siblings, his eldest children, the worshiped demigoddess, Deyanira, Doctor Zalthraxis Morthelvaan, head scientist over the Dusk Project, and the wardens who were being projected through the transmission stand at the center of the spacious room. Those who were physically present stood on either of the throne room’s walls… waiting for their crowned king to speak.

“Stand. Share with us. Tell us of my kingdom, of our wards, of our people.” King Kyros Zanithel finally and deliberately broke the silence. He was always the first to speak, not because he was born to be king but because he had snatched the position and held it tightly within his grasp. In Malthemoor, heirs were not chosen through birthright, but through their actions and standout potential. He was conscious of every single word he spoke as his word was law. His word was true!

Deyanira was an imposing figure that stood at the side of the throne, her fingers tracing the details of the obsidian, her gaze fixed on the king seated below her. Her flowing white hair cascaded down her back, its ethereal beauty enhanced by its gentle, flowing movement, as though it were caught in an underwater current. Her cold eyes, which were a deep shade of purple, seem to pierce through any who dare to look directly at her. Though an ethereal beauty, the lavender-skinned being possessed a foreboding aura. As her King had addressed his wardens, she had shifted her eyes onto each of them with cool detachment.

Zalthraxis, a formidable figure stood among the royalty of the dark elves, he exuded an aura of ominous elegance. His ebony scales radiated a mysterious sheen, capturing the essence of the shadows themselves. Adorned in regal, intricately designed robes that cascaded over his scaley form, he stood with an air of undeniable authority. With hands interwoven, his grip firmly clasping the pommel of his sword, he observed the scene before him. His keen intellect tirelessly dissected every detail of his surroundings, meticulously calculating his next move. Like a predator in the night, his reptilian eyes darted with cold intensity, leaving no facet of the room unnoticed.

“My grace!” One of the cloaked dark elves announced as he and his peers rose up to address their king. “Every ward remains stable thanks to the governance of our wardens. Ironhold, Roshmi, and Myriamor continue to increase their revenue through trade and goods. Our standardized identification system remains in the works but the existence of disguise rings is still an obstacle we must continue to contend with. As you are aware from prior briefings, there are citizens who have used these maskings for decades or more at a time. We recommend a stop in production and to ban them from the markets, however, this will also decrease the morale of the people who use them for cosmetic vanity. I-”

“Our people. We are all Avalians and Avalia is my kingdom.” King Zanithel interrupted without a change in his demeanor, though his powerful words were felt in the bones of the dark elf that briefed.

“Apologies, my king! Our people. There are reports of an influx in the purchase of these rings lately, which coincides with our next update.”

“Proceed.”

“Rebel forces have begun to swell throughout the kingdom. With one faction managing to raid and burn down one of our middle forts between Myriamor and Illuminata. Reports indicate this is the same faction that includes a light-elven woman, and a dragonborn male. Unfortunately, we have failed to deliver their heads to you. But by the grace of Halastra, we will capture and kill them.” He assured before gulping as he prepared the next set of information from his sources. Make it swift. I will tolerate that cist.

“My king, there has also been a rumor of the summoning of humans by the rebel faction, New Dawn.”

“Humans?” The word would have been completely foreign to him if not for the existence of demihumans. Despite this, he knew some of the alien race from his knowledge of Avalian history. A race of beings from another realm capable of using magic beyond the level of even the oldest and wisest of elves and fairies. They were nearly forgotten but still acknowledged through the annals of history.

“Yes, my grace. Our sources say The New Dawn is rumored to have summoned humans.” the dark elf repeated, though adamantly.

“A rumor? In my court?” King Zanithel’s eyes pierced through the briefer, shaking him at the knees. “Though I appreciate this information but without evidence, how do you intend for me to act? I will not move our forces on the basis of rumors.”

Deyanira's voice cut through the tense atmosphere like a sharp blade as she chimed in suddenly, “If humans are truly among us, then this is the ideal time to step on them. They are unwelcome pests in our world…” She watched an ant crawl up onto the top of the throne, and with deliberate and ominous slowness, she delicately pressed her finger into it, crushing it into oblivion. Her lips then curled into a cruel smile. “The pathetic creatures will possess very little knowledge of the world they stand on.”

The demigoddess leaned forward to look down at the King, her eyes locked onto him with an unyielding intensity. “The humans pose a small threat if any in the long-run, which is more than what could be said for the rest of them. Investigating the rumor will provide no loss to us and ensure they never gain their foothold.”

“An investigation,” He spoke as if contemplating the idea. His eyes were upon Deyanira for a moment before he focused on the subject who had reported the said rumor of humans to him. “Do we have locations?”

“No, my grace.”

“Do we know many were summoned?”

“No, my grace.” This answer came out weaker as he mentally felt the weight of the King's ire.

“Their abilities?”

“We know nothing more, my grace.” The sound of King Zanithel's tense exhale nearly shook the reporting dark elf from his skin. He regretted even reporting the matter as it only put him in the crosshairs of his king's exploitation of the lack of information in it.

“Then do as the darkness calls for, my kin. Do your duty and give us our answers… And if you do find them, all of them, I don't think I have to tell you the next course of action. Do I?”

“No, my grace. Their light shall be extinguished from Avalia. From your kingdom.” King Zanithel finally broke a smile of pride before looking upon Zalthraxis across the dimly lit room.

“Precisely. Zalthraxis, can you produce a scout or two suitable to aid my soldiers in this task? I think your blessed fae could find some use… other than getting lost. His eyes pierced through the dragonborn as he exposed the knowledge of a failure from the esteemed doctor.

Zalthraxis felt acid begin to bubble in his throat as he was called out in public. If it were anyone else he would have killed them.

“My King, the one that escaped was a failure. Would you prefer I… terminated the subject? As for the humans, I shall send my most trusted two.” He said, bowing to the king who hadn’t faltered his expression.

“With such an esteemed reputation and a sharp mind, explaining what I want to be done to one of your failures would be a waste of breath… Instead, I look forward to hearing of the prospect your successes will bring to the Kingdom of Avalia. The creation of dark fairies is one of our greatest triumphs and the first of many stepping stones to the future I envision. Continue to keep me updated on their progress. No more secrets, doctor.” Zanithel’s expression eased as he turned his attention to the reporting subordinates.

“If there is nothing else, you are all dismissed. Mistress Deyanira, remain. I require your counsel. I wish to learn as much as I can about these… humans.”

Darius by@FunnyGuy and Dante by @Alivefalling

Equipment: 2 shot glasses, 300 Amas total, Flowers from Phia, Dante’s cellphone, and Dante’s knife

After such a spectacular entrance, the twins had only a moment to truly assess the situation. They discovered that Phia was in the company of two others like her. Two winged people the twins had learned were fairies. A delicate yet tenacious race of people with the powers to heal and tap into nature itself.

Darius was getting himself up from off the ground after his fall, his eyes locked on the roc flying menacingly above the group. He was wondering how anyone would deal with such a threat just as Phia made her way to Dante and hugged him while speaking to him.

What the hell is that about? Ugh, nevermind, I gotta focus on the giant bird that probably wants to kill us.

Dante embraced Phia's comforting hug, listening as she did her little speech. As she gracefully lifted off into the sky once more, his resolve grew stronger. “That thing is scary as fuck, but I refuse to run or hide. I shall stand my ground and confront it head-on,” Dante declared with unwavering determination, preparing himself for whatever awaited him in the imminent battle.

“Sounds real heroic but you’re getting a medal of honor if you just stand there and let that thing eat you! We’re WORMS to that thing!” Darius shouted as he started moving toward the two fairies but he wouldn’t make it in time...

Dante’s eyes shot towards the familiar sound of his brother “Would you shut the fuck u-.”

Dante’s words were suddenly cut off by the piercing cry of the roc. The twins covered their ears as best as they could, wincing from the sharp screech. Then came a massive gust of wind that almost blew them off their feet. To make matters worse the roc used its massive body and wings to destroy the forest canopy around them causing debris from the large thick trees to fall upon the forest floor. It was as if the sky was collapsing around them.

As the roc flew over, Dante tried to shout to his brother “BUILD A WALL!” He screamed as loud as he could, hoping Darius would hear him over the chaos as he put his hands to the ground and formed a half dome to cover himself. Darius accomplished the same in an instant as he already had that same idea in mind. Despite Dante’s effort, part of the rock dome crashed into his left thigh as a large piece of tree broke through it. “Fuck, my leg!” he winced in pain trying to focus on keeping his dome up.

After the torrential winds subsided, Darius quickly peeked from outside his dome. He wasn’t as close to the two fairies as he had wanted to be but at least it seemed he, Dante, and those two had gotten through the devastation the roc caused. As far as Menzai and Phia, he couldn’t tell.

“Shit…” He muttered as he looked up at now opened area and the roc circling the area… searching. Everyone seemed so frozen in place after what occurred but Darius wasn’t the type to just sit still. He knew even with his gifted magic, he couldn’t combat the roc directly. He didn’t believe anyone of them could but he had to do something. He glanced at the tattoo on his right wrist as a call to action. “Let’s do this!” Darius exclaimed as he vaulted over the rock dome and sprinted as close as he could to the center of the clearing without getting too far from his brother. Focus, focus, focus. It’s only small pieces. Very small pieces! One way. Send them all one way! Darius let loose a grunt as he hopped and slammed both his palms to the ground. The impact caused particles of dirt in a large portion of the open space to rise high into the air creating a low elevated dust cloud approximately thirty feet above the forest floor that obscured the view of those on the ground from the roc.

As Dante peeked from around his dome to see Darius creating a large dust cloud to cover their location “Damn bro, Thats some nice thinking.” He said as he speed limped his way closer to his brother where he too focused all he could on spreading and increasing the radius of the already growing cloud.

“Of course it is. Now… EVERYONE, STAY BELOW THE DUST! ESPECIALLY THE ONES SPORTING THE WINGS!” Darius hoped he had concealed everyone but what was supposed to happen next? What would the roc do?

My mouth is getting so dry right now.

The thought was enough to distract him from the ongoing back and forth. Feeling the attention off himself, Lorenzo became a little bolder, grabbing a spoon and spreading some hummus on the small piece of naan he had left. By the gods this pea- hummus is delicious. I'll need to convince Gilbert to make some one of these days. He grinned at the new flavors that he was currently experiencing.

The room finally grew silent as everyone finally indulged in the food in front of them. Eventually, the desserts were served but Lorenzo practiced some level of self-control as he only partook in eating half of a portion of baklava. This too, he found to be quite delicious and sweet to his palate.

“Mmmmmm! I'll need to procure the recipe for this flaky pastry.” Lorenzo was feeling comfortable again, especially after eliminating the snake and the tiger from the room. It conveniently worked out in his favor despite how dire things seemed to have become. It reminded him of a tale he was told as a child about a flock of pigeons… or was it doves? Or crows? Eagles maybe? They were birds! What if they were fish? Lorenzo could hardly remember. All of them dived for the chance at an easy meal, only for all but one to survive the doom of being captured and eaten due to the bait that naturally attracted them. Lorenzo had dove but managed to pull away just in time. Wait, the story was about a wench and suitors. Yes. He pulled out just in time. Yes!

He briefly smirked to himself, finding the recollection quite humorous. Tonight had not been as bad as it could have been and he was sure the ill events would be forgotten as the current calmness in the dining room took hold of the situation.

The sudden entrance of Anastasia, caused the duke to slightly jump in his seat. Initially, he wondered if one of the Shehzadi had returned for vengeance against him but fortunately, he was met with the sight of Princess Anastasia and Alden Plannington. Their presence was quite a pleasant surprise with Alden's presence reminding him of his discussion with Prince Wulfric. An advisor! Lorenzo thought as he followed Anastasia's form, traveling from person to person in the room.

“Duke Lorenzo.” She put her hands on her hips and grinned. Duke Lorenzo fucking Vikena. …”

Lorenzo couldn't help but blush slightly. He was wondering why these young women were giving him this kind of attention tonight. First Mayet, and now Anastasia. He glanced at Nahir, but quickly averted his gaze. No, not a chance. There's no way I'm three for four with young princesses. Ugh, this is troubling. I'm torn on whether I should give in to this kind of attention. I don't think Charlotte would appreciate me courting someone so close to her age.

“Can we stop and appreciate this ensemble? They don't play around in Veirmont. Yow! Matching hat and everything.”

“Please, princess, let's leave the best region of the north out of this… Even if it is the best place to be. And thank you for the compliment. It means a lot coming from royalty.” He smiled as he placed his hands on the table and nodded to Charlotte.

“I think it's about time we depart. As much as I'd love to stay, I have important matters at home to attend to. Sultan Raif, thank you for inviting me to dinner this evening. I would also like to apologize for any issues I may have caused. And that includes last night's events as well. And though I did bring gifts to accompany my apology, I would like to… withhold them. After sitting down with you and your family, I believe what I managed to procure isn't fitting for any of you. Allow me to take what I've learned from you all tonight to adjust my choice of gifts.” The duke frowned before forcing an uneasy smile. “And I have not forgotten that we still need to speak. I think that by then, I will have more appropriate gifts for you and your family. Though I insist, I can accept your decline of this offer.” He nervously scratched the back of his head before realizing he was forgetting something. “Oh and thanks again for allowing me this seat Hafiz. Next time, I'll let you sit at the head, whenever that may be. Promise. And wait! One more thing! With all of you here, I would like to announce that I, Duke Lorenzo Vikena, am searching for an official advisor this season! And who better than one of you gracious people I'm in the presence of?”

Mister Luum gazed upon the owlbear carcass for an entire minute, surveying the parts affected by his attack. All the while, his ears picked up all that everyone had to say. He found Bardulf's apology much needed considering he had to clean up the mess the human was tasked with dealing with. He didn't care much for the excuse since the apology is all that mattered to the middle-aged elf. Mister Luum made a waving gesture toward the human as he finally stood up, quietly signaling him to continue on the path. The confident faux smile he wore on his face at the moment was passable.

“Go on ahead. I just need to take a breather and maybe give as good of a prayer over the beast's body as our pleasant Rue did.” He gave them a swift nod to continue on the path to Roshmi City before his eyes locked on Zeva. He had faith no other mishaps would befall them the rest of the way.

“Brigitte, get to work on the owlbear! Get as much as you can carry from this beast while I have a word with our new friend.” Mister Luum said excitedly and loud enough to grab Zeva's attention. His eyes studied the other elf before he took an exaggerated step forward.

“Aye, Mister Luum.” Brigitte responded as she quickly got to work, actually finding quite a bit of interesting stuff within the animal. Quite the hoarder, this creature was, but she supposed she shouldn’t be surprised with it likely often attacking travelers for food.

During the fight, Brigitte had tried to divide her attention between making sure Mister Luum was protected and the human was protected. She didn’t want to interfere too much, however, as she knew the group needed practice fighting together and Bardulf needed the practice of learning how to utilize his magic. She shot off a few shots of her bow, but nothing substantial. She mostly stood aside, preparing to grab the bandages quickly in case anyone got an injury and she needed to be a field medic.

“Elf to elf, introductions are in order, don't you think? I am Mister Luum, esteemed adventurer and entrepreneur. I hail from our motherland, Illuminata… yet I have not been home in quite some time. A very long time.” He briefly turned his head to face southwest and let a shallow sigh escape from his breath. “But enough about me. You appear to be quite interesting. At least to me. So tell me, who are you, and what path did fate place you on that led you to me and my friends?” Mister Luum asked this but quickly glanced down at Brigitte to check on her progress and then returned his gaze to Zeva once more.

“All done, Mister Luum.” Brigitte finally said, carrying an impressive amount of stuff from the owl bear. It likely was quite humorous seeing this soft-looking girl carrying more than the normal person could.

With the conclusion of grace…

Lorenzo had nearly cried
But remained dignified
Mayet sought to threat
Blade and neck had met
Lorenzo could have died

Or at least thought that's what would happen. The threat of a blade from Mayet was upon him yet again. Being two for two in a situation like this with the same individual almost marked the young princess as his reaper. He was silent and still, afraid that any sudden movement might further provoke her. He wondered why he had gone forth and embarrassed Mayet in such a way. He didn't intend for things to turn out like this but his words were his worst enemy, only second to his actions.

Mayet's intimidating presence had somehow dwarfed that of the deadly tiger that accompanied her. He could only think of one person he had enraged to this level, to the extent that he was sure they'd find pleasure in ending his life. Emina… The scars that decorated his face were not from war or any form of mutual combat. The intense stare, the unmoving lips, and eyebrows that furrowed so tightly, they threatened to touch the bridge of one's nose. There was no point speaking when a person became like this. They loathed everything about you, including your voice. Like a storm, they could not be reasoned with. Try demanding a storm to cease. Try to beg it for mercy. It will destroy you just the same. The best thing he could do now was patiently wait for it to die down and endure what was in store in the meantime.

The voice of Farim broke through the silence as the young man moved to de-escalate the situation. And though Lorenzo was grateful and slightly relieved, he remained silent. His hand slowly reached the nearest reprieve from the massive pressure he was feeling. One wrong word could put his life in danger once more. One more wrong word could have another Alidasht at his neck. He needed to grab hold of something that could rescue him from this dilemma.

Lorenzo felt as if the entire room had slowed with the attention of eyes off him and on Mayet and her cousin for the moment. He had to get it he had to save himself! The moment his fingers touched what he was aiming to grab off the table, he grabbed into his hand without hesitation. It wasn't perfect, but it was the closest thing he could get his hands on. And even if he weren't saved by it, at least he'd be satisfied. Not only would he have attempted to help himself but also his rumbling belly. The disc-shaped naan he acquired was pulled back towards him and with a careful movement, he brought it to his mouth. The bite he took was especially big, more than enough to stuff his mouth and stay his tongue for a while. A skewer might have been tastier, but the bread would do just fine.

Raif erupted from his end of the table but Lorenzo was too swift. He was already taking his second chew. He kept his jaw still as the sultan snapped his children before aiming sharp daggering words in his direction. Lorenzo nodded silently, failing to hide the fact that his mouth was bulging with naan. The moment Raif ended, Lorenzo resumed his strategic chomping, taking sequential bites before he managed to swallow all that was being chewed. As long as he had the bread in hand, he'd continue his long cycle of continuous chewing. Even if he had a disagreement, he would be unable to voice it clearly. In essence, he was somewhat safe as ridiculous as he might appear.

My mouth is getting so dry right now.

Lorenzo was completely unbothered during the brief discussion of whether or not he should be the one saying grace at the table this evening. This always happens hehehe. No one can ever decide who to choose to say the good word before dinner. Can't say I blame Hafiz and Mayet for trying to steal away my spotlight. And then the sultan made his decision. But it won't happen today! I'm the guest of honor after all. Ha!” He didn't even realize he was wearing the goofiest smile on his face.

Now with permission from Raif, Lorenzo was prepared to begin but a sudden hiss and a yelp from Charlotte drew his attention to his left. A single eyebrow raised in confusion as Charlotte was now standing up, yet the cobra was on the other side of the table. She didn't… did she?” Lorenzo's confused expression slowly morphed into one of contempt as his gaze remained glued to the serpent and its fancy little bowtie. The duke was somewhat torn as he realized Layla had used the well-dressed cobra to terrify his daughter. He hadn't been the biggest fan of snakes but the sight of the classic black adornment tied snuggly on Zilal was one of his personal highlights of the night.

Still, no one attacks Charlotte. A young woman who's done nothing wrong! This truly is a punishment, is it? Was this… He looked across the length of the table at Sultan Raif who was extremely aloof compared to the others. He wasn't hot-blooded like the rest of his family. Not speaking to be heard like his family or even like Edin but to bring forth action with his words. If this was a play, he was the director amongst turbulent actors. Was this all his intention all along? Lorenzo's remembrance of the conclusion of the previous night's blunder struck deeply at his thoughts.

“Duke Lorenzo, you have humiliated myself and my family. This is something we do not take lightly and if this were in my court things would be ending very differently. We are not, however, so I must honor the court we are in. That being said, this is the judgment I pass on to you. While my family resides here in Caesonia, you shall come to the castle once a week…And you shall have dinner with my family and I.”

Coincidentally, at that very moment, Raif spoke, addressing and scolding his children. Not only that, he sent Layla to her room as if she were a disobedient child. He watched as she departed, surprised the woman had been sent away for her actions. And he thought these royals were untouchable within the confines of this space. He was just about to give Charlotte a look of assurance that everything would be fine but her eyes were looking across the table at none other than Mayet who was at the moment gazing directly at him.

Is she staring at me? And did she say something about having patients? A doctor and a princess all in one, huh? Lorenzo awkwardly turned to look behind himself to see if there was anyone else she'd be staring at in such a way but there was no one there. Again he met her gaze. It was a look he recognized far too well, especially during this past year while he resided with Veirmont. A look that could break a man's spirit and intimidate him into a state of freeze. He felt an unexpected wave of heat across his body as he took a shallow yet deliberate breath. With the most stoicism he could muster up, Lorenzo presented Mayet with a single nod before addressing the table.

“Just one moment, Raif. I need to sort something out very quickly. It's very important, my friend,” Lorenzo grinned before he leaned to his right to whisper to Farim.

“Sorry to interrupt but your cousin. Mayet. She's making eyes at me in an intense thirsting manner and I… Actually, I'll just address it.”

“Ahem. Raif, I humbly apologize for the sidebar conversation and for making you wait on your well-prepared feast but there is something I must address and it cannot wait. I have come here as a guest of honor but also to repair the damage I have done to you, your family, and your culture. Leading with that, I want to express that I do not intend on courting, wedding, or bedding any of your daughters this season. Normally, I wouldn't state such a thing but Shezadi Mayet has been rather obvious with the type of eye contact she has been giving me. So, I must humbly decline her advances. You see, she is very beautiful but she's about Charlotte's age, a cat person… No offense Lottie But- Nevermind. And lastly, I don't believe I'm quite in the courting spirit as I am still grieving my late wife Emina. It just wouldn't work. But, I do have an olive branch I am willing to extend…” Lorenzo's stomach suddenly grumbled with hunger.

“BUT that can wait! I think grace is in order. Uh, everyone, join hands. Come on, don't be shy. ” He surprisingly grasped Hafiz's hand with an almost unnatural accuracy and swiftness. “Now bow your heads in silence while I give thanks.” Lorenzo smiled with glee as he shut his and bowed his head. Shit! I know how to do a combined Caesonia-Varian grace but I don't know what the Alidasht people worship!

“Eh… Gods of Eromora, we of three peoples of three kingdoms are harmoniously joined here in your everlasting presence to give thanks for the sustenance you have provided us this evening. Gods of beasts and hunting have given us the means to use the creatures of our land, skies, and seas to fill our vessels. Gods of harvest grant us the means to take in the nutrients of Eromora's produce, grains, and spices. We ask that this meal be blessed with benevolence and for any gods of mischief, deceit, and death to stay your hand from this gathering of men and women seeking to find at least a semblance of unity amongst us as we pray and eat together this evening. We ask that you bring fortune and good health to not only us but those who have prepared this meal as their fingertips tingle with the touch of the Gods of creation. Just as you shaped and brought forth the life we now experience, the cooks and servers in this room created this moment where representatives of three kingdoms share a warm delicious meal. Allow fortune to find us all in the good that we do and love for those who seek to find their other half for as grand as your love is for us, it will never be enough… And I must not forget. Please forgive Shehzadi Layla Kadir and her snake as they do not deserve punishment but instead your guiding hands to place her on a more virtuous path. Again we, the Caesonian, the Alidasht, and the Varians give humble thanks to the gods we worship and revere. Amen.” Lorenzo finally lifted his head cheerfully, opening his eyes that let loose streams of tears as he was so moved by his own words.

“W-we can eat now.” He said with his voice slightly cracking at the end.

Time: Morning
Location: Gaurav Village
Interactions: Menzai @samreaper
Equipment: 2 shot glasses, 300 Amas total, Flowers from Phia, Dante’s cellphone, and Dante’s knife

The two brothers continued listening to Menzai's words of guidance. Though the idea of cheating death only to attain abilities beyond their wildest dreams was an awesome experience to indulge in, both Darius and Dante could not forget what they were brought here to do. The task that they had accepted. As exciting as it seemed, it carried the weight of many people's livelihoods. Despite being a good start, revolving stones and floating boulders weren't going to cut it.

The recommendation of small games was answered with a silent nod in agreement from Dante. Darius, however, chose to speak.

“Deal!” He replied while also giving a similar nod. Things were calmed if only for a moment before Menzai made mention of a "grand game to finish this in the end,” which piqued the interests of the twins. Their competitive natures caused each to give their own smug looks of confidence. Darius wore a large almost mischievous grin while Dante wore a slight smirk and raised an eyebrow.

It won't even be a competition.

Doesn't matter how strong he gets, he ain't getting the best of me.

While the two awaited Menzai's list of criticisms concerning the demonstrations of their grasp on earth magic, a sudden and loud screech in the distance. It caused the two brothers to look up and around at the sky, as they were both unfamiliar with the creature causing the disturbance. To them, it sounded like a bird of prey due to the distance they were from it masking how dire the situation actually was.

“Sounds like Phia threw a surprise party for an eagle or somethin',”
Darius smirked.

“Nah, bro. That doesn't sound good. Where's she at anyway?” There was a hint of concern in his voice as he'd gotten used to her appearing in the middle of Menzai's instructions. They were now looking at Menzai for answers.

“What's going on?”
“What's going on?”

They asked in unison.
