I'm having way too much fun with my Legend of Zelda Encylopedia. This is the game that got me into roleplaying so have a lot invested in it's lore and stories. Too bad can't have all the games too.

How many monster fighting abilities can we have?

Think of it in terms of power sets, like maybe you've got a fire type set. At the beginning you've probably got some basic ideas of how to use it and you'll learn more advanced uses later on. You'll have a core power or move set to begin with but that can be expand upon later.

So pretty much everyone will have some basic abilities such as increased strength, endurance, etc, kind of like a transformed sailor scout and then a 'special' power to master. Most of your abilities will be branched off of the special power set. So after all the basic stuff you'll probably have 3-4 'moves' based on your special power which will naturally expand as the fights go on.

Not every ability has to be directly related to your 'special' power of course but a good chunk will come from mastery of that art. I'll added information to the sheet.
Here are character sheets to get your gears running, keeping it short and simple.

Feel free to change up the sheet how you wish to make it look good, but has to at least include all this information.
UNFAIR MONSTERS

So How Long Do I Have to Fight Until It's Over?

"I don't understand, it's just too strong! Did we come this far just to lose here!?" A girl in an outlandish costume that made her look like a multi-colored jester gritted her teeth in frustration as she looked at the monster in frustration. The large, metal-plated behemoth hissed out stream from between its plates making it whistle like a steam train engine. The monster's large, scaly eyes looked at the strange individuals arrayed before it with utter contempt.

A variety of individuals were scattered across the ground in a multitude of conditions. Some were sprawled on the ground as if mauled to death, others were lodged straight into the ground or into buildings, others were nursing broken limbs and trying desperately not to get in the monster's sight, while still more were breathing heavily but still in good enough condition to fight.

"I know, we've tried everything we can think of! Ice, fire, projectiles, metal, piercing, blunt force, heck even a strike at terminal velocity but nothing has even put a dent in this thing!" Another combatant, a young boy in what appeared be in some kind of light armor wielding a short sword complained as he glared at the monster. The monster glared back and opened up its gigantic Maw to gather energy for another blast to wipe out the remaining kids.

"No, no, no, NO NO NONONONONO!" The Jester girl started to scream and cry as she realized that the end was soon approaching.

"DANG YOUUUU!" The young boy charged straight at the monster, hoping maybe a strike into its mouth might damage the beast but as his sword went in, CLANG! His sword bounced off the metal interior. "Oh come on-" Were his last words as dark, purple energy erupted from the creature's bowls and torched him to a cinder. The Jester Girl tried to run but she was quickly caught up in the blast as well and collapsed to the ground.

The monster looked around to see if anyone was left but at this point everyone was knocked out. With a final snort the monster shrinked into a small ball of purple light and flew away. A black figure appeared and looked over the absolute carnage, a one-sided massacre with no survivors.

"SO LET'S SEE. HOW MANY WINS DID THEY GET BEFORE THIS GROUP BIT THE DUST. EH, 8 WINS HUH? I'VE SEEN BETTER, THEY REALLY WEREN'T THAT SMART WERE THEY AND THEY EVEN HAD SOME PRETTY COOL ABILITIES THIS TIME AROUND TOO. WELL JUST SHOWS GOOD POWERS ARE WASTED ON IDIOTS! STILL THEY'LL AT LEAST PROVIDE ME SOME ENERGY." The dark figure went around to each person and absorbed what appeared to be a stream of light from each of their bodies. As he completed each one the fancy outfits disappeared from the kids leaving them to lie on the ground. No matter what state their bodies were in, once the figure was done taking their powers the kids were returned back to their normal, whole states.

"WELL I'LL NEED TO FIND SOME NEW CHAMPIONS I SUPPOSE. I HOPE I CAN FIND SOME REAL TALENTED ONES THIS TIME SO I CAN HAVE A REALLY LARGE MEAL! HEHEHEHE, AH MAN THIS REALLY IS TOO MUCH FUN!" The dark figure chuckled as the destroyed area returned to normal as if nothing had transpired, no monster, no destruction, no magical boys and girls, just a bunch of kids sprawled out on the ground like drunks after a really long night. The figure vanished and the children started to wake up.

"What am I doing out here?"
"Where am I?"
"Hey! Don't look up my skirt!"

The confused kids tried to make sense of their situation but nothing really came to mind, all they knew was they needed to get home before it got any later or their families would be worried about them...

Unfair Monsters. A simple enough idea. Kids get chosen, gain special powers and are forced to fight monsters with the promise of a wish dangled before them if they can make it to the end. As battles go on the monsters get more powerful and ridiculous, meaning often times the only way to win is to find some sort of flaw or weakness to exploit to have any chance at winning the day.

Meanwhile, between monster fights the kids live out their normal lives, though a new person joins the scene to observe them. How will the fights shape these kids lives and change their destinies? Well that is up to you, if you can survive the oncoming challenges.

Part Superpower/Magical Girl/Slice of Life story. Of course the main hook is the various monsters that you will be forced to fight against, each one offering its own unique challenge and solution in order to defeat it.

Time to see if anyone bites the hook.

Game Set-Up

Normal Phase - This is your classic character interaction time. Everyone lives out their normal lives, going to school, making friends, etc. Character ages will be in the middle to high school range so around 14-18 years old. To make things easier for interaction everyone will be attending the same school though the middle and high school divisions will have their own campuses. This is your slice of life time, make friends, go to parties, find love, all that wonderful stuff you want to do.

Monster Hour - The monster will appear, making the characters have to drop whatever they're doing and fight. Monsters care not for time or context so they often interrupt at the worst of times. You can fight however you want but these monsters are often invincible until you figure out their weakness or gimmick. The longer a fight goes on the harder it will get as the monsters start developing strategies to finish you off.

Angel City

Geography
Angel City is a somewhat isolated location, with mountains to the North and West, plains to the east, and the star shaped Satin Lake to the South. Roads mostly travel east and west through the plains and mountains. The city has the typical four seasons and the city planners spent extra special care to keep nature along with the buildings so there are few areas that are completely concrete.

Seraphim High and Middle School
The biggest school in the area where the next warriors are selected from. There are two separate campuses, one for the middle school and one for the high school right next to each other. While there is a school uniform students are not required to wear it except for special events and occasions.

The school is well known for having a variety of extra-curricular activities, ranging from sports, to music, to drama. The various teams are known for being highly competitive with those from other schools and are often highly ranked. While creativity is encouraged, high expectations are also put on the students.

Cherubim Park

A large park near the center of town known for its many trails, grass fields, flowers, and even a six-winged statue of a Cherubim in the center. The statue has a fountain around it and nearby playground equipment for the children. Lots of people come out here for quality time with friends and family.

Heaven's Wings Arcade

As the city is rather removed from other cities it actually has a somewhat decently run arcade despite home consoles and the like. You can expect the usual arcade experience with crane machines, arcade machines both old and new, drinks, snacks, and even air hockey and pool. A fun place to hang out when bored or just to meet new people.

Gotham University Dorm - Crack of Dawn

BEEP beep BEEP beep BEEP beep...came the most annoying sound in the entire world at that moment. Barbara Gordon forced her eyes open but had to blink furiously to try and escape from the land of dreams and pillows. She resisted the urge to hit that ever beautiful snooze button and let the alarm ring out its wake up chorus. If she gave into temptation, it would just make it that much harder to get up for the day.

"Mornings after a night patrol, are the worst." Barbara grumbled as she somehow managed to push herself out of her sweet, sweet bed. Gravity and morning head fog tried to bring her back down but she was the Batgirl! No matter the challenge or the opponent she was going to overcome it, or something...ya, no that was a stupid thought.

She managed to crawl out and only then did she turn off the morning dread machine. Stumbling to the shared bathroom between her and her dorm neighbor she went over to the sink and gave herself a good splash of cold water. The frigid cold immediately cleared the fog from her head and soon she got a good look at the mirror.

"You look like crap Barbara, better get ready before anyone can notice." Barbara looked at her face, nasty black bags under her eyes, her hair had decided on a somewhat punk look with odd strands shooting all over the place, it was the typical face of a person who had only managed about three hours of sleep. She always felt accomplished after a night run but boy did she have to face the consequences in the morning.

A quick shower, an intense hair brushing and blow drying session, and a some makeup application later, Barbara Gordon was transformed from the walking dead to the pride of the Gotham University gymnastics team. With a bright smile, radiant features, glossy red hair, and the poise of a champion Barbara was a proud athlete and tech savvy extraordinaire of Gotham-U. It was amazing what a little time, effort, and makeup could do for a person.

First on the agenda was gymnastics practice, this was a very important part of the day as it helped stretch out her body, wake her up, and give her that needed exercise to keep in tip-top shape. Gymnastics was one of the extra-curricular activities that she had always tried to keep a spot in her schedule, the acrobatics were very important for making sure she was ready for some Batgirl action at any time. Often times she would be scouted because of her skill but while the potential at gaining medals was appealing if she wanted to make an actual difference in the world she had to decline least her precious time as Batgirl be taken away. She wasn't able to go out that much as it was with all the other things she had to keep up on.

After that were classes, social engagements, lunch, studying, and so on that went on at University. It was a busy hectic life for Barbara Gordon and this was just the start of the day. After her morning was over it was on to the GCPD for her internship. Due to her school life she only had time for three days a week where she went to the GCPD, today being one of them, but first she had to drop by the alleyway where the murder had happened to retrieve her bug and search for evidence. This of course added quite an extra leg to her trip so she had to be quick and efficient.

GCPD - Afternoon

With the side trip done it was off to the Police Department to help soothe their weary computer woes. All the new equipment was an absolute nightmare for the older members so having a young one with incredible tech experience was an absolute god sent for them. The department had to keep up with the times but cranky old men didn't change very well with them. While she enjoyed her work one of the main reasons she was here was for the easy access to police records and labs. Of course she had to be very careful to avoid being caught when she did; thankfully, her computer skills were up there with the best hackers so it wasn't too much of a problem when you had insider access.

Soon enough Barbara had gotten into the network and was busy going over the forensics of the case. The lab techs had done a very good job, everything from the type of knife used, the time of death down to a few minutes, even what the man had been eating that night. Well interesting or just downright useless, Barbara was seeing if there was something that could have easily been overlooked, a seemingly insignificant thing that could be a clue. The problem was Barbara wasn’t sure what exactly she was looking for, if it had been anything electronic it would be a snap but CSI work was a little outside her expertise.

She was taking a closer look at some of the items of the case when she heard someone approaching the room. Well she could potentially bluff her way out, as a simple techie she really wasn’t supposed to be in there so Barbara quickly hid herself. In walked in Detective Ellen Yin, the young Asian woman had only recently transferred over to the GCPD from Metropolis. Barbara had briefly talked with her before but never for long as Yin was always quite busy with her work.

“Strange, I thought no one was using this room until later, guess someone wanted an early start like me. Well that just makes things quicker for me.” Yin commented as she sat down at the computer Barbara had been using earlier. “Whoever was looking at the evidence last had some interesting ideas; maybe there is something that was overlooked.”

Yin poured over the information while Barbara tried desperately to not make any sounds or movements from her hiding spot at the back of the lab. Yin’s eyes narrowed as something caught her attention, “Could it be?” Yin zoomed in on something and then brought up a tab to do a quick search while Barbara tried not to let her curiosity get the better of her. “It’s only a hunch though so I can’t be sure, I’ll do a preliminary check and if it pans out I can get the rest of the department behind me.”

Yin quickly closed everything and headed out. Barbara waited until she was certain before slinking back into the open. She went back over to the computer and quickly brought back up everything that Yin had been looked at before. At first Barbara wasn’t sure what to make of it but then the pieces started clicking together.

“I suppose that’s a real detective for ya. Guess I’ll be working overtime, oh boy tomorrow is gonna be rough.” Barbara made sure to leave no evidence she had been in the lab and then left. She had a detective to tail.

The last image on the screen before it was shut down was that of a small pink button with what appeared to be two small letters, initials, but the button was too old and scratched to make it out…
Well, sadly I have not heard from anyone else besides you two. Unless we can get some replacements I just can't find the motivation to continue with this roleplay. Thanks for joining and staying, but better to stop now before anything really happens than trying to trudge along with only the three of us.

@Hawthorne@vancexentan
@Hawthorne I'd say do an introduction post first to establish your character, then I can just use my awesome powers to wisk everyone into the area where we can truly get started. But might want to wait for the others to respond to the roll call, though I suppose that's your call.
I should have just started off with some action right away and just had everyone get together from the get-go, oh well. Alright so lost two people so before anything else can happen let me just see who is actually willing to go on.

Rollcall

@Indra
@Pie Flavor
@LukasVolkov
@vancexentan Well I know you'll stay but had to call out anyway.
@Hawthorne Did Plank ever get back to you?

Alright so...the main thing now is down to two servants again. Which we can roll with but probably could use another one. I can take up the servant slot, however if someone else wants it now is the time.

We'll figure it out after I get my roll call.

Gotham Alleyway - Dead of Night

Harvey Bullock surveyed his surroundings with disinterest. The typical dingy gray buildings in a seedy part of town where no sane person would walk at night. It was the dreadfully normal setting the crass detective found himself nine times out of ten, partially because such settings were somewhat of his specialty and partially because most of the department liked to put him in such places just so they wouldn't have to work with him. Harvey peeled away the wrapper off of a candy bar he had kept in his coat pocket so he would at least have something enjoyable to munch on during the night shift.

"So Montoya, have poor scum bag do we have in the alley tonight? Druggie? Maybe a dealer from a deal gone south? I would give you my emergency rations if it was the corpse of one of those psychos from Arkham." Harvey smirked at the thought as crumbs sprayed from his candy bar as he bit down like a starving man.

Montoya glared at the older man's atrocious manners near a crime scene but she didn't bother reprimanding him, he would just ignore her anyway and he was technically her superior. Why she had gotten stuck with his lout she would never understand, maybe she had just been the unlucky sacrifice in the department so they wouldn't have to deal with Bullock. He certainly was a pain in the Bollocks.

She had already been observing the scene for a while now before her 'partner' had finally decided to show up. It was one of the more disturbing crime scenes she had seen in a while.

"The thing is Bullock, frankly I have no idea who this guy is aside from the fact his attire says mobster."

"The hell? How can you have no idea who they are? It's a freaking mobster they're always easy to identify from their mug alone!"

"Well, that's the thing...you'd better have a look for yourself." Montaya walked Bullock over to the covered corpse and lifted part of it off so Bullock could get a better look.

Bullock nearly choked on his butterfinger.

"Christ! What sick demented freak did that to him!?" Bullock gaped at the bloodied corpse, a strange animal mask, a sheep perhaps, had been grafted onto the man's face, making it impossible to identify him with just a look. From the amount of disfigurement done to his face they were going to need a finger print or even dental records just to know his name.

"You know what's even sicker? The mask graft is older than the time of death. This ex-mobster had been alive with that face for who knows how long? He only recently died to what appears to be a knife wound to the chest."

"Cover it up Montoya, God that's just sick." Bullock swallowed some bile in his throat, he had seen plenty of disgusting things during his time on the force but this was certainly up there among the top things he'd want to forget seeing. "Got any idea who the perp is, for either the death or...that."

"Well, as there is blood from another individual on the scene we are fairly certain he was in a fight right before death, as for the face graft, all I can tell you is the perp knew what they were doing."

"Bleh, let's hurry up and wrap up this crime scene, dead guys don't tell us the killers on their own."

Gotham Alleyway - Above the crime scene

Barbara Gordon had her ear to a listening device as she looked down at the cops below. She was currently hidden on an old fire escape, making sure her cape was positioned just right to help her blend in with the shadows. Her police scanner had alerted her to the location and to make sure she could hear as well as observe, she had dropped a listening device near the alley dumpster. The sound wasn't the best quality but she could make it out well enough thanks to Bullocks loud voice.

She knew she shouldn't be so biased but whenever she found herself listening to Bullock on patrol or at her internship, she kind of hoped she'd find some incriminating evidence showing he was a bad cop, she just couldn't like the old, grizzled detective.

Waiting in the cold, hunkered down to chilling stone and frigid metal while she tried to glean whatever tid bit of information she could was not really her idea of a good time. Her suit certainly helped but sometimes she wondered if she needed to put a little bit more underneath the suit to make sure she didn't freeze to death. Maybe some long underwear or some thermal pads would be a good addition to have.

"I'll try to remember to add some extra warm padding next time." Barbara complained her herself as she watched the two wrap up their investigation. As much as she wanted to explore the crime scene herself, she would have to wait for another time, she didn't dare show herself to try and get more info as Bullock especially had a distrust of bats of all kinds.

Barbara carefully slinked away under the cover of darkness, she would come back later for her bug and to further inspect the crime scene. While she hoped further investigation would reveal who the killer was, frankly she was more interested in finding out why the victim's face had been turned into a horror show. Someone out there had one sick hobby, but that would stop if Batgirl had a say in the matter.

Barbara sneezed as she rushed off into the night to make it back to the Gotham University dorm before dawn. Being Batgirl part time was the best she could do for now, college courses waited for no man or woman after all. Bad guys were a lot less complicated than negotiating the social hierarchy of Gotham University, that was for sure.

For now she just hoped she hadn't caught a cold.

As it turned out Erika hadn't needed to try and remove the big ape as the other fighters had managed to take care of the alien. It was a little disappointing she hadn't been able to deal the final blow but she had done her duty and stopped the alien from blowing up another city. It was too bad she hadn't been able to do it sooner.

As many of the fighters cheered in triumph Erika could only frown. It had taken too long and many lives had been lost as a result. A new potential fighter appeared afterward but she wasn't too interested in that. The only thing that had her attention at the moment was the chrome dome and his dying master. The old guy certainly had been ballsy, like a true hero he had given his life to save others, if he hadn't been there to pin the alien down who knows what might have happened. She thought about saying something, anything but kind words and that crap really weren't her style.

Then Baldy started shouting about about how they sucked, as if all the death had somehow been their fault. While he ended on a nice sentiment about training to prevent something like this from happening again, Erika could feel a vein pop on her forehead. There was something about him that was pissing her off.

"Don't get ahead of yourself you egotistical narcissist! Just because you get stronger doesn't mean you'll be able to save everyone! No matter how strong you get don't ever delude yourself into thinking you could save everyone! Save all you can but never be so full of yourself that you think you could prevent everything!" Erika knew she wasn't being fair, but her feelings, always near the surface, easily boiled over.

She grit her teeth, clenched her fists and turned around to stomp off. She was pissed, not really at Yang, but at herself. As usual despite her best efforts things had not turned out great, sure she, in a way, had saved North Capital with her bike but everything before that had happened regardless. Despite all the power she had been given, she was still weak and people had died. She knew it wasn't her fault but...she remembered a similar situation in the past and that was what had worked her up.

Suddenly a drone appeared in front of her, one of Dr. Tread's drones. It buzzed annoyingly in front of her as if irritated, well the voice that came from it certainly was.

"Erika...did you blow up another bike!?" Erika grimaced as she plugged her own ears. "Blast it Erika you might be one of our favorite projects but that doesn't mean you can just wreak whatever you feel like without consequences! Sure the government is footing the bill but soon they'll stop doing that if you keep up your reckless pace!"

Erika considered blowing up the drone but that would certainly be going too far, besides, she was very reliant on Dr. Tread, like it or not. "I'll, try not to but people's lives always come first."

"Which I understand, but I'm sure there are better ways than ruining a state of the art air cycle! Well in any event, you're due back to the lab for a check up anyway. Also while some of my robots collect some samples from the blast site I can see on the screen I might just be able to give you a genetic upgrade as well." Other drones appeared in the area which headed straight for the crater to collect samples form the corpse, if there were any to collect. "I'll have to keep an eye on these other individuals, they seem like good research materials considering the fight they must have put up, course if the bike was intact I would have better data to work with."

Erika stopped acting like a child and looked back at all the fighter that had gathered. If it hadn't been for them, none of them would be alive right now.

"Oh, I don't remember that one in my previous data, hmm I do believe he is an actual android! Fascinating! Anyway you had best hurry back as soon as possible so we can get to work."

Erika stood for a moment though, thinking about what to do. She took some steps back toward the group so she could easily be heard. "Hey, so thanks for stopping him...eh don't know if I'll see you losers again but stay alive or whatever...this is stupid I'm going home, never really liked people anyway." Erika scratched the back of her head then started to fly away as if to keep her distance from everyone else. It tended to work out best that way.
