How is character design usually handled? I didn't see anything about pre-registering a character based on power level/abilities/equipment/etc. I did see something about T1 - which sounds... Distantly familiar.

Do fights conclude after a set number of posts/are they judged by anyone to determine the victor?

What generally is sought after in these arena matches? Common themes, etc are what I am after. I noticed a number of different settings and characters (which is great), I just wanted a clearer image or direction if there is one.

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to dusting off the gloves 'ere shortly.

1. Between us we don't really have a consistent character design here, so it's kind of do what you want. As long as your character isn't OP and is detailed enough on their abilities and so forth, there's characters of all walks of life who may wish to challenge you. Trying to base things on power level has been difficult in the past and gotten us into a few debates over how best to handle it. As such we usually just think, "yeah, these guys seem like a good match" and go with it. T1 is the battle system, which is pretty straight forward. I'll try to find a good link explaining it tomorrow if nobody else beats me to it.

2. I've seen both options. Most of the time it's "go until someone is defeated" (unable to battle for whatever reason). I personally dislike ending a fight after a turn limit because I'd like to see it to it's conclusion. Most of the time if it's victory by judgement then it would be a tournament.

3. No real direction. We're sort of trying to move towards incorporating more story into our fights, but the focus is still on fighting. Our efforts to create a multiverse, which would be more story heavy, has failed so far. With more people popping in here lately there could be some improvement in this regard due to the failure mostly due to lack of dedicated roleplayers.

Name: Patrycja Tetmajer (Can pronounce first name as “Patricia”)
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Where this character lives: Katowice, Poland
Magical girl persona: Laughing Petal
Image of your magical girl:

A brief description of your character: She’s a confident blabbermouth who always speaks her mind. She can laugh in almost any situation, having a playful nature. She’s nosey and has little regard for personal space. She believes any problem can be solved through a combination of intellect and guts. She may seem snobbish at first glance but she’s willing to give genuine help if she cares about someone.

Her hobbies are flower arranging, gossiping, and playing instruments called castanets, which she has self proclaimed mad skills.

She’s was raised in a wealthy family; her father an ambassador. No job opportunity satisfied her until she was offered to become a magical girl. She knew she found her calling at that moment.

Your magical girl's special ability: She can form a giant glowing red flower around herself that can block attacks both physical and magical, although it would break if hit by attacks of sufficient power or larger numbers of smaller attacks to whittle her defenses down. The petals can open up at her will. She can hover around while standing inside the flower, but only at speeds of 10 miles per hour.

She can also fire normal sized petals as fast as arrows outward from her body, normally her hands. They would very rarely have the power to be lethal on their own, but getting hit by a swarm of them would be dangerous. The petals have slight homing capabilities.

Lastly, flowers seem to grow slightly faster and healthier in her mere presence.

Weapon: What looks like a dead stick around two feet long. Vibrant flowers can grow on it but they don’t do anything. As she looses energy then the flowers begin to wither and fall. Despite being a stick, it’s as tough as a steel sword.
I was choosing between an emotionless russian girl who uses ice and a polish girl, and found this image that sealed the deal to go with Poland: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/64/2..

She will have something nature related. I'm trying to come up with a good magical girl name so that's what's taking so long now.
I can play as a french magical girl who rides a giant baguette. jk

I'll have to post my character tomorrow unless I come up with something within an hour or two.
Okay. So although they're worldwide they're still in very small numbers at any given time, with more girls coming in to replace dead meat the brave souls of defeated magical girls. Thanks to their horrible death brave sacrifice they are able to recruit more magical girls and not risk using up too much of the magical energy of earth and also get ride of the dead weight underachievers.

Is it common knowledge that magical girls exist?
How many magical girls are there as a rough estimate? I would guess if they're all over the world, at least one per city would make sense, with larger cities such as Tokyo possibly having more? Of course it's up to you though.

However, going with the rule of eliminating the girl with the least amount of charms, that won't work as well for larger population sizes. Eliminating one out of 10,000, for example, isn't all that threatening. XD
I might as well join, given how I enjoy dark magical girl anime.
I don't want to intrude on your thread, but I'm in the process of putting up a mini-FAQ concerning free-form role-play duelling (it's not the full extent of my knowledge by any means -- just a little groundwork), so do you think it would actually be helpful if I posted it here once I'm finished?

Perhaps you can link it here and have it actually posted in the Arena Chat Thread itself, which more beginners would stumble upon and help them out.
@carla6677, here's the thread for our battle. Feel free to post your character in the character tab at any time. You should at least have their name, appearance, equipment, powers/abilities, and also lots of people prefer if you give a bit of their personality and other tidbits of information. If someone pulls out a magical spell not mentioned in the sheet then that would be grounds of being disqualified/having to change what they wrote to remove the offense. Obvious abilities we expect the average person to have don't need to be written. For example, they can still do hand to hand combat if you don't mention it, but they aren't going to be particularly skilled at it unless you mention that they are trained in it. Only saying something like, "they can use fire magic" for their power is far too vague so very few would accept a fight with such a character in ranked without further explanation. The character could, by what is written, be able to set everything on fire with a glance, create fireballs the size of suns, etc. unless you give us some handy limitations to work with.

I'll give tips as we go along if I notice stuff and you will be free to edit your posts to correct anything. The very first IC posts are usually just introductions to your character being on the battlefield and perhaps calling out to your opponent. However, attacking them outright on the first post would be unusual so if you wish to do that I'd see if your opponent was fine with it first.

I think our battlefield should be simple. Perhaps a grassy plane with some rocks, hills, and a couple ruined walls and such from a long abandoned/run down fort.

I'll try to have my character provide some openings for you to practice taking advantage of.
Evvie didn’t have the longest of attention spans, so once she didn’t get any closer to figuring out this minor mystery she came out of her squat and dusted her hands off against each other a couple of times. This endeavor was more or less successful. Some of the dust and grim still clinged to her palms and would likely have to be washed off. Out of curiosity she examined the soles of her bare feet, which were coated. Okay, even she had to admit that she could use a good washing. Perhaps later.

“Now what to do?” she asked herself, sounding as if she was starting to get bored again.

She suddenly got the feeling like she was being watched all this time despite this place seemingly being abandoned. Was that the sound of footsteps? She twisted her upper body around to look over her left shoulder. Sure enough someone was there. Or perhaps something. He almost looked like the zombies that she has fought in the past, only he had a certain look in his eye that showed a wicked consciousness that zombies didn’t possess. She didn’t fear easily but a chill did run along her spine down to the tip of her tail, which went rigid. She brushed off the feeling once this initial moment passed. Evil or not, this guy didn’t seem like he could be a match for her judging by how frail he was. She could fight bulky monsters four times his size with ease.

She spun her left foot around so that she now turned to face him with feet shoulder length apart and hands firmly at her side. As she did so her wings raised up from a resting position so that they could give a good flap at a moment’s notice. She didn’t have any weapons on her but did have her specially made gauntlet that would activate upon contact with her fire, encasing her in a suit of armor. She didn’t activate it yet, instead eyeing him down as he did the same to her.

“You need help?” She questioned.
